Use this post to discuss Part 1 of Chasing Pavements. My thoughts on Part 1…
*Fiona’s plot was good. Nice closure to the storyline that kicked off Season 10. Also it’s a great set up for Fiona’s love life in Part 2. It’s such a shame though that because we live in a Degrassi universe where we all need Degrassi info all the time, the surprise element of Fiona’s sexuality was officially ruined by promos forever ago.
*It’s about time Owen is used for something. I enjoyed the perceptions and reality that we got to see in his character: 1) Anya thinks he’s gross, 2) He did act like a creeper…touching a girl like that is NOT the way to show her you like her, 3) He wants to be a lifeguard.
I’m glad we’re seeing him beyond being that guy who got in a fight with Riley, and that Anya flat out says he will never have a chance with her…that’s something that isn’t directly said all that often on this show.
*Alli’s return to Degrassi…after the “almost” confrontation with Bianca, boring is the kindest word I can use to describe this plot. Even as a filler it is absolutely terrible. Unless something interesting happens in Part 2, this specific plot will be receiving an F.

Hmmm, they haven’t done a legit shoplifting storyline since Lucy’s Degrassi Junior High (hopefully your mind was blown with that reference). Also can we deal with drug use for longer than an episode or two? That’d be kinda nice…and we can all assume the divorce storyline is a continuation of the drama in the Edwards family (meanwhile, Degrassi fans still continue to ask, “WHERE’S DARCY?!?!”)

Assuming Jenna and the baby are okay, and that KC is still with her, I suspect that he may start shoplifting as a result of a) having little money with which to support the baby, and stealing baby items, and/or b) the baby’s needs draining what money he has, and thus he starts stealing stuff (probably beanies, mostly) for himself.

male persuasion? does that insinuate Adam? idk that phrasing is wierd…girl that’s no stranger to trouble makes me automatically think of bianca, but for some reason Alli also could be the character. aaaannd OBVIOSLEY (ya i spelled that wrong) Clare’s plot is the third one…i just don’t see how they could continue a plot they pretty much stretched out as far as they could right now…idk well have to find out :)

Ironically, he really did. Shenae Grimes, who plays Darcy, dies in Scre4m: New Decade, New Rules, which premieres in theaters April 15th, and looks better than all 3 of the first ones combined btw.

Im all for Fadam, but they are so over. However, I don’t think Fiona/Holly J is going to happen because Holly Jbeing in love with Fiona doesn’t make sense. Plus, I think it is obvious that she is in love with Sav.
I just hope Adam finds someone. Oh, and I think he is the shoplifter from next season cuz it says “of the male persuasion.” How awesome would it be for Fiona to like bail Adam out of jail or something? Cuz too many couples end and just get dropped.

Part one was pretty good. Fiona’s storyline was great, I really liked Anya and Owen’s storyline, however Alli’s plot kind of bored me. I’m on Alli overload.

The Alli plot might have been decent if there was actually a point to it…instead of a total of like five minutes of Alli whining and Clare pretending like she didn’t notice it. It was nice to see them back together as friends, but I want to see an episode where Clare tells her to shut up. xD
The Fiona plot was excellent, no surprise there, and the plot with Anya and Owen wasn’t bad either! I kind of want them to be a couple, actually…;)

The promo for part 2 where Fiona and Holly J are together dressed up nice well i’m pretty sure it’s just a fantasy it looks like it. And at the end of this episode when Fiona kissed Holly J I think Holly J was just being a friend and not saying anything (if you have ever read “The perks of being a wallflower” the same thing happens when Patrick kisses Charlie and Charlie doesn’t say anything and let’s him keep kissing him, Charlie says he was just trying to be a friend. I think that’s what happened here)

It does look kind of like a fantasy, but there is a dance coming up. I don’t know if it’s in the last two episodes or maybe it will start in next week’s episodes. Which would explain why they are both dressed up.

I think Stefan does it way more than Stephen, but I’d be kinda concerned if they weren’t. In hindsight it’s slightly annoying, but at the same time they know Degrassi’s fanbase on twitter is easily excitable.

OK! 1st off Fiona Questions her Sexuality that doesn’t mean she changes it, and who knows its degrassi all the signs were pointing Fitz to stab Eli, it pointed to Jane dating Declan, but she didn’t she stayed with spinner until he found out she slept with him, I think that she thinks she is a lesbian because she is in love with adam and adam doesn’t want her because she cant think of him as a guy, and then she convinces herself she loves Holly J, but shereally loves adam, but then she finally excepts she loves adam, and Holly J wouldn’t be into it since she dated fionas brother, and also I think after Adam leaves fiona gets drunk, and then Holly J comes over with some bad medical news and she starts drinking, and they are both drunk.

I don’t understand the whole Fadam obsession. Fiona looks like she’s with a 10-year-old boy when she’s with him. Plus, it isn’t a healthy relationship for either of them. I suspect people just want them together because Adam has become such a fan favourite, and fans want him to have a girlfriend.

I also like that the Owen/Anya plot (B-plot?) actually addressed that Owen was in fact sexually harassing Anya. Kudos to the writers for that. Experiences like that are all too common, among girls at any age, but they are conditioned into thinking that behavior like Owen’s is normal and that they should be flattered by it. Good job.

“Male persuasion” doesn’t necessarily mean trans — it’s just a cheeky way to say boy or man. I’ve seen the term (as well as “female persuasion”) used a lot to refer to nontrans characters or people.
It’s probably a storyline for one of the new characters, anyway. The current roster have already fulfilled their Issue of the Week quota.

Lol at Fiona’s shocked face when Tinsley admitted to Bobby slapping her. It was literally like “:O.” Glad things worked out for her. I would’ve hated for the verdict to turn out badly like it did for Paige’s rape trial. And at least they gave an explanation for Declan’s whereabouts, I guess, hahaha. And I still think the Folly J scene is a dream/fantasy.
For some reason, I feel like the shoplifting storyline will go to Dave. I figure he’d do something as stupid as that. Cocaine storyline to Bianca perhaps? I want her to get a real storyline and have her character fleshed out. And obviously we have to deal with more divorce bullshit from Clare. -groans- Not that I don’t feel and understand her pain, but Aislinn needs to step it up with the acting because I am not feeling her anguish AT ALL.

reasons Folly J (or Lesbiona J) won’t happen:
1. promos make it obvious and promos tend to be misleading
2. too predictable (Fiona being lesbian, not Holly J)
3. no signs of Holly J having any feelings towards Fiona other than a plutonic friendship
4. WAYYYY too similar to Paige/Alex, almost identical (enemies turned bffs turned lovers)
reasons Fadam will die out (unfortunately):
1. Fiona thinks of Adam as a guy AND a girl and he is ONLY a guy
2. they have very little (besides hard pasts)in common
3. only popular because everyone loves Adam and people just want him to have a gf (they’re not too picky about who)
4. (maybe, not sure about this one) it could ruin both characters individuality like many previous random couples
I’m team Fadam all the way, but I’m smart enough to realize that they are headed downhill fast. I just hope that the writers show that you don’t have to be gay to be with a transgendered person by giving Adam a straight girlfriend next season.

Kary, I really think you should call attention to this recent podcast with Lauren Collins and Jake Epstein where they reminisce about Degrassi: http://uhhhpodcast.libsyn.com/episode-44 It was posted on Degrassi-Fans.com and it’s seriously brilliant. They talk about what Degrassi meant to them, and behind the scenes stuff I’ve never heard of (and this is coming from a humongous Degrassi fan). Fans especially of the first generation/TNG cast will definitely appreciate it.

Think about how pissed off she got over Declan spending too much time with Holly J and through her possessiveness the infamous “twincest” kiss happened. Maybe Fiona just attaches herself to one person that she’s really close to and it gets a little out of hand. Maybe she’s misinterpreting her extreme neediness with Holly J for love. Just a thought.

Am I the only one who thinks something might come out owen and Anya? She said she wasn’t into him but the way she said it made me think otherwise, like she doesn’t want to like him because of all the horrible things he has done, but we all know, you really can’t help who like.
I disagree with Kary about alli’s plot. I wouldn’t consider the fight between alli and bianca as “the almost confrontation” They got into a physical fight, how is that not a confrontation? And I’m excited for alli’s plot, she’s my favorite character, and I really would love to see how she handles Bianca and Drew as acouple and if Drew feelings for Alli will return.
Now Fiona, for some reason I do see her as a lesbian, she clearly has thing for holly j, she doesn’t want to accept Adam as being a guy, she really does want to be with a girl.
But this is degrassi and ya never know.

I am all team Fadam. All the way, 100%. And i don’t know if it’s because I’m in love with Adam, or if i am in love with Fiona. Both are amazing characters, and both have amazing story lines. I love them both, so i don’t want to see either of them got hurt. Also, in the past, it has had misleading promos. So i think what will happen is Fiona is going to try and get back with Adam, then she says the thing about being boyish and girlish. He then will say, you want a girl, and cause Fiona to question her sexuality. I don’t think it’s going to change though. I think she will try and question it, but i don’t think it will change. I think she’s going to try and kiss/ get with Holly J, in order to test it. (See if she enjoys it), but ultimately, will not.
I really hop Fadam stays together, even though there is a 99% chance that they won’t.
Also, when Fiona went off to rehab, and Adam got the letter that was supposedly to him from her, Fiona had a letter in her hand a well. So i was thinking that Holly J could have given them both letters, but they were both from her, saying it was from the other lover.. Just to make it seem like the other one still cared, in order to make no one seem like the end of the world because the other one doesn’t love the other one… If that made sense.
Please reply! I really wanna talk to someone about this… None of my friends like degrassi… So i sucks.

Okayy , so sometimes I really miss the old cast. Haha, but here’s what I think.
1.Fiona: Yeah, probably not gonna end up with Adam. I can definitely see her being lesbian. But with Holly J? Reminds me too much of Alex and Paige .. & The fact that Holly J and Declan were together..
2.Anya: So, I think her and Dr.Chris are really cute .. But I also think her and Owen are really cute .. I don’t know, haha I kinda want her and Owen to date? & For some reason, he seems alot hotter. xD
3.Alli: I’m glad that she came back, and her and Clare are hangin’ out. But I was kinda sad too, because I wanted to see an actual runaway plot. But I thought it was still pretty good.

I can see Jimmy coming back as a teacher role but hence “Drake” is kind of busy at the moment.
Spinner & Emma? Unlikely due to them not continuing college when the last time we saw of them.
I can see Marco coming back again as a teacher since he did play a role as a student teacher BUT he would just have a teacher role in Degrassi, wouldn’t be much of a teacher story.

Over all I was pretty pleased with this episode. :) I felt like we saw more characters than we usually do an episode cuz we saw alli, Clare, drew, Bianca, Anya, Owen, chantay, Adam (for like a second), Bobby, tinsley, holly j, Fiona of course, mrs. Coyne, and even miss oh had a pretty big part for her character. I don’t particulary hate Dave, Wesley, and connor but it was nice to have a break from them. Also I’m very happy Fiona won her case. That sack of shit deserved to loose. Abuse is unacceptable period. And 1 more thing, how can they consider Owen a main character when he’s just coming back when there’s only like 3 episodes left??? I think they shud take him out. I really hope he dosent ruin Anya and dr Chris cuz Imma be pissed if he does.

It’s ridiculous that when Alli gets dramatic plot then it’s too much so it gets a low grade, then if she has a normal plot it’s too little it gets a low grade. People are never pleased when Degrassi isn’t shooting someone off the show or being over dramatic. What happened to liking Degrassi for the fact that it portrays school in a more accurate and realistic way than other teen dramas( Skins, Gossip Girl, etc.)??

I agree with you 100% @Manuela Santons! I like her plot. She’s back at Degrassi, has to face her ex and his new girlfriend and is trying to do well at school it’s not over dramatic and it’s not under dramatic..it’s realistic. It’s a new plot for the episode.

3 (potentially 4) F’s out of 50+ plots over the course of 42 episodes this season…yeah I’m giving em out left and right alright.
Why do people automatically assume when I say something isn’t interesting enough it automatically means that I demand the plot become overly dramatic or that someone needs to be shot/stabbed/killed off immediately? If people “needing the show to be dramatic all the time” is annoying, then people always assuming that that is why someone is bored with a plot is equally annoying.
I believe Degrassi Junior High/Degrassi High is FAR superior to the current Degrassi(and the old TNG eps)…they mastered realism in the 80s with only half the drama Degrassi has now, so a lecture on how I should enjoy Degrassi’s simple realism isn’t necessary.

Because, as I said before, I found her plot to be boring. I don’t like that they used a long-winded story about standardized testing just to create an unnecessarily-contrived scenario where Alli’s forced to interact with Drew.
I’m not really sure why my disdain for Alli’s plot in this episode so far is such a big deal. The Anya/Owen plot is far more of a simple, undramatic, realistic plot than Alli’s, and I actually liked that one. You guys are assuming that me saying “Unless something interesting happens in Part 2, this specific plot will be receiving an F” means I’ve already made up my mind and am going to give the plot as a whole an F even though we’ve only seen half of it…and that’s not the case. This is my opinion of PART 1 ONLY. Yeah it could get an F if it continues to suck, but is it not possible that I could, you know, actually enjoy what happens in Part 2?
A perfect example of when I HATED a plot in Part 1 and LOVED it in Part 2 is The Three Tenners storyline:

That’s why I said no real bearing. You didn’t explain anything until it was put into question. Letting a gut reaction be a review is dumb. That shows your reviewing skills aren’t growing even after 50+ plots over 42 episodes. As a reviewer you should at least watch/read/or do whatever you are reviewing twice(if it’s short enough so TV show or movie) or long enough to give a proper reaction (so a game or book). Right now you should know that your site is basically where MOST fans go for info/reviews (besides the cruddy WIKIA). Don’t leave bad impressions all over like the show is doing something wrong when it isn’t and review with more professionalism because you know a lot of people read it so why give out “cheap” reviews that contradict what you are capable of? That makes you no better than the parody site Boycott the Caf.

What are you talking about? That was never meant to be a “review.” I’ve said it many times that I only review the episode after watching Parts 1 AND 2. It was just my initial, unfiltered thoughts about half of an episode. If you’re going to critique my professionalism (or lack thereof), shouldn’t you be tearing me apart for my gut reactions to the Fiona and Anya plots as well, not just the Alli one? Why has no one questioned/been offended by me liking Fiona’s storyline, even though my thoughts on it were equally as vague as my thoughts about Alli’s? And just to be clear, by the time I’d posted my thoughts about Part 1 on here I’d already watched the episode twice.

I really liked this episode and it made me like Fiona a bit for standing up to Bobby. I really thought that story plot was dead in the water but it was good for Fiona to get some closure, peace and get that douchebag Bobby back. It made her look mature and stop running from her problems. Also, I was surprise that it would be Tinsley saving Fiona’s case..Kudos to her..
About her and Holly J? In the promo, it did look like a fantasy. So, i’m not gonna hold my breath for that. However, I think Holly J would turn her down just like Sav did Jenna.. It worries me because it might trigger her drinking problem. Adam? I really gonna hate to see Adam gets his heart-broken. The way he looked when he saw her and couldn’t talk to her when she was in the hall-way.. Plus, he did a noble thing by letting her go and get help knowing without her drinking, things will get awkward.. Should of tap it and ran LOL
Anya and Owen was a bit weird…Since they’re like opposites but like they say..”Opposites attract”. I rather see her with Dr. Chris.. Besides, it would be awkward since he gave Riley and Zane hell and their her friends…
I’m glad to see Alli back in Degrassi and with Claire again.. Even though the plot sucked, it was still good to see her back and I wish she could of bitched-slapped Bianca…

Yeah I know right? I was SO convinced that she would drink it and destroy any chance of her winning the trial, but I’m glad she didn’t. Drinking has been causing Fiona problems for way too long now and it made me happy that the writers showed she really had changed. Getting out of rehab was one thing, but the fact that she was able to resist alcohol within such close reach is what convinced me Fiona’s different now.

I really don’t think that Fiona is just confused.
1. Fiona has been pretty indifferent to boys since her arrival on the show. Unless her coldness towards the opposite sex had something to do with her orientation, she would not be characterized as straight. While there are lots of “icy” straight girls (like yours truly) in real life, for the sake of drama, not many exist on television.
2. If Fiona’s “confused” as so many people seem to believe, why would she even bring up that she LIKES what she believes to be “girlishness” in Adam? I don’t know of any straight girls who would be turned on by that.
3. While promos have a tendency to be misleading, because the queer community is so marginalized, so starved for representation in the media, I highly doubt that the promos would be put together in such a way as to make queer viewers excited to have another character with whom they can identify…and then go, “HA! Gotcha! She’s not really a lesbian!” That’s just really cruel. MAYBE we’re being misled to believe that Holly J and Fiona will become a couple, not that Fiona’s a lesbian.
4. If Adam’s comment about Fiona wanting a girl is what makes Fiona think she’s in love with Holly J, why did Fiona lay a big ol’ smooch on Holly J’s lips in the previous episode? Why has there been so much foreshadowing with Fiona (her comment that she’d rather kiss Adam than “any guy” at school, flirting with Clare, calling Holly J her “girlfriend”, telling her that she loves her, etc.) if Adam’s comment is the thing that triggers her “questioning”?
5. In a pretty recent interview with Annie Clark (it was online, I forget where), the actress states that by the end of the season, Fiona character takes a “sort of unexpected turn”. At that point, we already knew that she was an alcoholic, so that wasn’t the unexpected turn. I wouldn’t call her stint in rehab unexpected, as it was inevitable. So what’s left?

Does anyone remember the letter Adam read that was supposed to be about him, but it was in actuality, really ambiguous as to who Fiona was talking about. Like did anyone notice that if Fiona is serious about liking Holly J. that everything she says in the letter could be about Holly J. and not Adam. Fiona never mentioned a name, just that she missed and wanted to be with the person she was referring to even though they shouldn’t be together.

Well that was the first thing people thought about the letter; that it was so open-ended that if could be about Holly J and not Adam. You are right, she never says his name OR Holly J’s name because when people write in diaries/journals, they tend to write very openly like this entry.
Also, it wasn’t a letter, it was a diary entry not meant to be seen by anyone. I just think too many people have the common misconception that Fiona intended on expressing these emotions because it was a ‘letter.’

I have learned that the songs very much represent the storyline and the overall outcome. And being that “Chasing Pavements” is one of my favorite songs, it is clear in the lyrics that the love Fiona has for Holly is not reciprocated, “I made up my mind, dont need to think it over if I’m wrong I am right…should I give up, or should I just keep chasing pavements, even if it leads nowhere..” She is chasing pavements trying to get at Holly J.

I posted my comment to the episode under the wrong episode discussion somehow. So here are my thoughts:
I think Fiona will definitely be a lesbian. like if you rewatch the episode when she gets together with adam, she says “i’d rather kiss you than any of the other boys at school”. Adam says “what?” then Fiona suddenly spills her drink which ends the conversation. seems like the writers are trying to sneak in clues about her disinterest in men.

Ok, I am not saying that I don’t think Fiona is a lesbian, but I don’t think that we could use season nine as support. Here is why: when Declan talks about Fiona not really ever having a boyfriend until she starts dating Riley, it is used to aid the Riley being gay storyline by showing that other people think he is gay. I know some people say, “well she seemed to know a lot about homosexuality in Beat It” and I agree but that is probably because she is the daughter of a diplomat and has been all around the world and seen a lot. Her wanting nothing ro do with Riley if she thought he was staright could easily mean that she didn’t like him like that. She even says he the perfect boy repellant (by boy repellant she is obviously talking about slim balls and dirt bags that try to get at her). Fiona was only dating Riley to benefit the both of them; he kept everyone away from her and she made him appear straight.
As for her season ten closeness with Holly J. Same deal as with Declan. Fiona becomes very attached to those that are there for her. Like Declan, Fiona finds herself obsessing over said person. So,she could easily mistake her obsession for love.
Oh, and her saying she would ather kiss Adam than any other boy could simply be because the other boys repulse her or she actually likes him. Just saying.

Agreed. Let’s not forget Fiona took her midterm exam drunk, plus we’d get Fiona for all of season 11. I really feel it would be a crime to take Fiona off the show, after being a total ghost in Season 9 and being a star player and breaking out in Season 10.

I dont think Fiona is a lesbian, I think she’s a bisexual. I think this becuz even tho Bobby ended up abusing her, she was attracted to him in the begininng. Another reason is becuz in the preview for dtw pt 1 she says she likes that Adam is girlish AND BOYISH. That means she’s attracted to both genders, so she can’t be just a lesbian.
