MAIN PLOT: Holly J and Declan’s relationship is on the rocks.
I’m tired of the Dolly J drama, but their presence is more tolerable in Part 2 because Declan and Holly J have great chemistry when they’re on screen together (they haven’t been in the same room since the first episode).

Money issues is a huge thing for Holly J, but Declan sees it as something that can be easily fixed; he offers to give Holly J money so that she doesn’t have to work.  The problem is the money allows for Declan to get Holly J to do what he wants, like drop her weekend plans and go on a quick trip with him to NYC.  You know how Fiona was basically trying to buy Holly J’s friendship? Declan’s essentially doing the same thing.

Thankfully Holly J realizes that she’s fitting into Declan’s plans and has based everything around him, and decides the two should take a break.  Though this scene boasts solid acting, I consider their “break” a cop out.  I know the show wants to leave it open ended just in case, but the odds of them getting back together are same as the odds of Darcy returning from Africa.

SUBPLOT 1: Eli plots to get Fitz in trouble.
We knew Fitz was going to get in trouble in this episode for the fake i.d., but I would’ve NEVER guessed the route Eli took to make it happen.  To expedite things, he calls the cops and then engages in a fight with Fitz.  Because the info on Fitz’s i.d. is that of a felon, he gets hauled away.

I love Eli’s character, but probably for a different reason than some.  I know it’s going to bug me that there will be many people who love him solely because they think he’s cute.  But I love him because he’s multi-layered, and the layer we’re seeing now is one that could lead to dangerous results if exposed for too long.

He pulled several jackass moves by unnecessarily continuing the feud, but does that make him a jackass? I don’t think he is one as much as he is unstable.  I watched this episode with an eerie vibe over me, and with Clare in the mix I feel even more uneasy knowing she could get dragged into the middle of his instability.  How can a storyline that evokes such emotion (and there’s no way it’s even close to being finished) not be good?

SUBPLOT 2:  Dave is offended when the guys think his singing sucks.
This plot boasts an incredibly MASSIVE turnaround from Part 1, mainly because this part doesn’t move at the pace of a snail.

The 3 Tenners have recorded their song, but the problem is Dave sucks at singing.  Sav (the engineer for their recording session) uses autotune on Dave’s voice, and while Connor and Wesley loves it, Dave is offended.

Dave’s basically acting as ridiculous in this episode as Alli has been all season, but Sav tells him the other guys formed the band to cheer Dave up.  Connor and Wesley’s loyalty is awesome.  Now there’s no way I could see these guys dealing with a storyline heavier than this yet (and this one is basically the lightest kind of plot you’ll ever see on Degrassi), but I do admit Dave, Connor and Wesley all stepped up their game in Part 2.  And their song is actually catchy, which is more than I can say for any of Studz’s songs.  I know I’m not the only one who has the melody of the flute stuck in my head.

    1. I was actually thinking that while I watched part 2…there’s just so much going on…I remember actually (for the first time watching degrassi) getting puzzled when Eli called 911…then I was like omg he’s alittle “off” for my liking…but I still like him because “he’s totally different from the average Degrassi student”…but that is totally creepy in the same sense because the last “totally different from the average degrassi” student went on a shooting spree…

      1. I agree with both of you. After the police hauled Fitz away, Eli had this creepy smile. I think he might show some signs of being a sociopath also, like not having a conscience or having sympathy for people.

        Like

      2. right, eli only helped clare talk to her parents and only saved adam from that punch because he is a sociopath with absolutely no sympathy for anyone. yes, sociopaths can fake sympathy, but i really don’t think that’s what’s going on here. it would certainly be an interesting twist if we later saw him reveal that he secretly hated clare and only used her as a pawn in some plan…but uh, we’re watching degrassi, not death note, guys.

fitz was his bully and rival. we didn’t see fitz show much “sympathy” for kicking eli in the nads, does that make him a sociopath too? maybe we’re watching a show about sociopaths! yeah…no.

eli’s a bit crazy, but i am not understanding why everyone is overreacting like this. he takes his plans too far, yes (including his plan for clare, which was a bit much), and he’s not afraid to get hurt in the process. worrying? absolutely. but is he suddenly a psychotic psychopath and a “draco in leather pants” whose completely horrific behavior is only overlooked because he’s cute? nope. i just don’t see it. at all.

      3. The first thing that tipped me off was him starting the conflict with Fitz in Part 1. He was confrontational from the beginning when he asked Fitz “What’s wrong with you?” when all Fitz had been doing was standing there. He obviously didn’t feel guilty about what he did at the end of Part 2. Eli is also smug/full of himself which can be an indicator.

      5. Well I never said he was a definite Sociopath…but he definitely has tendancies…because I for one did feel kind of bad when Fitz got hauled off…but of course Eli didn’t, and for just about everything that happened with him and Fitz…Eli started (the parking spot, the kick in the nuts, the fake ID plot, etc), just saying…

    2. honestly, even APD seems like a bit much. i understand the sliding scale thing, but i don’t see how you can say, “oh, that person’s a bit of a sociopath, but mostly okay.” because either you are capable of feelings or you’re not. the definition would be waaay too broad if it encompassed anyone who ever didn’t feel sympathy for someone in a situation.

      1. If it isn’t that than what is it? It’s seems stupid for him to just be a sadist or masochist and there is no way he is bipolar. They wouldn’t do that again.

    3. First of all, we have absolutely NO background on Eli so making a judgment call on who he is seems a bit short sighted. All we know about him is what he’s putting off…and that certainly doesn’t indicate that he is a sociopath. If you think about it, his plan didn’t hurt anyone but him. He ended up with a bloody lip and Fitz got a ride in a police car. It was a practical joke! Fitz might have gotten busted for having a fake I.D. but that could have happened even if someone else had gotten it for him. Let’s not pretend that Eli was solely responsible for the entire plot. Fitz played his part and it played it well.

So far, Eli seems very passionate. He is super loyal to his friends, which shows that once you have him as a friend, he’s friend for life. I think that the interplay between he and Fitz is simply a case of standing up for the unjust, but I also think that it is a representation of his internal turmoil. Eli thrives on risk and, to me, that points to desperation. The more I think about it, the more I’m starting to get the feeling that Eli is emotionally traumatized. The clothes, the car, the risks- seems like a cry for attention. One thing that I find interesting is that Eli has never mentioned his mother (that I recall). He has mentioned his father, and that in a passing conversation with Sav. I did find what he told Sav pretty interesting, though. He indicated that he would never touch his father’s MGB- a classic car, which could point to Eli’s father being rich. It also indicates a possibly strained relationship between father and son…and the strain could be a result of something that occurred in his past- perhaps something to do with his mother?

Cue Clare, the source of light. No wonder Eli is attracted to her. If he’s lived in a dark, stagnant place, Clare is certainly a breath of fresh air. She is loyal, strong, passionate, and good- all things that Eli is clearly attracted to. He finds companionship in Adam because Adam is like him- alone. I think that Clare and Eli are going to have a rocky road to ‘The Lovers’ because he has a lot to work through as an individual.

      LOVING the depth this season!!

      1. Wow I agree with A LOT of that statement! But I think it’s too early to think that the trauma that has OBVIOUSLY occurred in Eli’s past that will probably be brought up in a later episode, has anything to do with a parental issue, I’m not saying it’s not possible but I just think it may be a little early for specific conclusions like that. Otherwise, totally agree!

      4. beautiful post. i could be wrong, but i do agree eli will turn out to be a rich kid who has a bad relationship with his parents. i suspected that before he even made the comment about how he would never touch his dad’s car just because it’s a popular character stereotype to make the goth kid rich. look at sam on danny phantom…or better yet, harold from harold and maude. the first time i heard eli drives a hearse, i thought his character was at least partly inspired by harold.

also, the fact that he wouldn’t touch his dad’s car or do anything like what sav did is telling. from the risk-taking behavior we’ve seen from eli, you would think he wouldn’t be afraid to do something similar, but for whatever reason, messing with his dad is off-limits. granted, he could just be a good, respectful son, but we’ll see.

i agree so, so much that he is portrayed as an extremely passionate character. it would be clever of degrassi to reveal to us that he’s a sociopath and it’s all just an act, but we’ve seen him being passionate and getting carried away with plans waaaay more than we’ve seen him lack sympathy. i also think that if the show were to create a character who had APD (because i really doubt they’d just go ahead and say “we’re going to make a character who is a PSYCHOPATH! teens can relate to THAT!” but they might more specifically cover APD), he’d be portrayed as more of a delinquent from the start. degrassi isn’t THAT nuanced.

also, so far, i have not observed eli to have ANY violent tendencies beyond normal male aggression. he seems more like someone who fights using his brains, hence why clare said she didn’t think violence was his style. there are hints that he likes pain, but we haven’t seen him derive any pleasure from physically hurting others. if they were going down that road, we probably would’ve seen him just plain fighting fitz and getting carried away with hurting him.

This is probably one of the best comments I have read k
regard to Eli. I agree entirely! I think he may have had a somewhat tortured past (or at least that is what the writers are leading us to believe). he seems a little bit morbid to me, but I sincerely doubt he’s as big of a physco as everyone else is making him out to be.

      7. i totally agree with this. I read something before that i also kinda agree with in the fact that Eli is kinda like the male version of Ellie. (And i don’t agree with that just cuz the name lol)

If you remember, Ellie dressed differently and did some extreme things (cutting in particular) because of her home life and other things. And after a while, Ellie got better and made a complete turn around from who she used to be. I think Eli will go through the same change.

  4. I really enjoyed this episode. I think Declan and Holly J do need to take a break from each other, whether that be breaking up for good or taking some time apart from each other.

I noticed how Holly J is a pretty strong person and she could stand up for herself and know when things were wrong. So when she turned down Declan and his money and got a job it was nice.

Eli’s plot was intense because it showed that he pushes things a little too far. I thought something worse than Fitz being handcuffed and taken to jail would happen.

I kinda expected Eli’s plot to backfire on him and something much worse would happen to Fitz and then he’d feel sorry for what he did but this plot was interesting too.

Can’t wait for Adam’s plot for sure.

  7. I completely agree with every single one of the grades, in this part, and the last, Kary. Especially ‘The Three Tenners’ sub-plot. In the first part NOTHING HAPPENED. I feel like a lot of opinion was based on both parts as a whole, but when you look at them separately part 2 completely outshines part 1.

Eli confuses me a lot, sometimes. I get that he will genuinely care for Clare. But, it just seems that he is a psycho.(IMO) As of right now, I think he’s nuts. :D And I’m loving every second of it.

    As for ‘Dolly J’… I just…. eh… -___-
When they first started to date, I have to be honest, they were the most adorable thing to me. But, as time went on, Holly J just began to base all of her decisions off of Declan. And I really started to miss the bitchy Holly J, who wanted to rule the world. ( i know she didn’t want to seriously ‘rule the world’ but, you know what i mean). I’m not 100% blaming Declan for her changing. I’m just extremely happy that they are over, and will (hopefully BOTH) start seeing other people. I’m also hoping that Holly J isn’t just using Sav. But I’m still feeling skeptical.

  13. I agree on every level with the grades given. Holly J.’s storyline was good and Landon and Charlotte’s acting were superb but it was missing something. I can’t say what exactly but it is which means the B- rating is perfect. I actually felt bad for both of them too. Declan leaves her, and the long distance thing kills the relationship. Declan buys her and she feels uncomfortable. Bad situation. Fitz and Eli’s fight was very entertaining and from what I understand I applaud Eli for being able to take that many punches just to wait for the cops. And as I said before Dave’s storyline is entertaining and funny as a way to take a break from the other two intense story lines.

While I know that high school relationships don’t usually last forever, they CAN and DO last longer than a couple months. And some relationships started in high school do last a long time! But Eli I’m loving him more and more. I’ll admit he’s cute, but by his personality and characteristics, Eli would be my best friend ever. I don’t completely agree he’s mentally unstable really. Like I’m slightly bipolar and he seems more like he just is trying to get a reputation. He already is known as a “creeper” to other classmates. Like after all Fitz did to him and Adam, I wouldn’t want him to be my friend. I’d want payback and for him to not want anything to do with me. I think he’s just being clever, and not afraid to be himself. You know. I don’t know, that’s how I see it, because I feel like I could relate to Eli sort of.

  25. eli . . . there are not words (but im still gonna try to find some, hence the rest of this comment). he definitely has a bit of a psycho vibe after this plot, but not in the way that, say, rick was psycho. i cant imagine him being abusive or anything to clare or anyone else, and i also dont think it could possibly go so far as bringing a gun to school for fitz, or anything like that. he seems more on the Craig side of the spectrum. he seems to get a bit overly enthusiastic about things he cares about, and i could see him trashing a hotel room or something if something awful happened. (but not punching anyone like craig did!) so, to summarize, i take him as more of a schemer (or an evil genius, i guess) than a physical threat. still using Times Stands Still as an example, i’d expect to find eli pouring paint with Spinner and Jay (if Rick was bully, and not just a geek.) altho, eli would probably pull a much more sophisticated prank.

After watching this episode and seeing what he’s done to Fitz, it really makes me wonder about his past and the people that have crossed him,he seems capable of anything and is not afraid to put himself in danger to get what he wants, I wonder how far he’ll push things until it all reaches a boil.

I love how declan tried to pay holly j to date him and do what he says. I’m glad her and Fiona are still friends. I miss the bitchy holly j. Eli just made me speechless. We haven’t had a character like him since Ellie. Also the Connor, Wesley, and Dave plot. It was alright. Can’t wait for the connor dateing plot. Can’t wait for MBIAC, <3

and maybe he didn’t treat fitz so nicely during the parking spot scene probably because he did something beforehand to make him dislike him..he is the school bully, after all.. and eli did give him an opportunity to apologize and forget all about it, and then fitz kneed him.. and then he attacked adam, which really ticked him off.. he must’ve been bullied real badly at his old school which made him do something drastic to make fitz learn his lesson and not mess with him, but too bad for eli, fitz is a “slow learner” like he said so himself at the end of part 2, hehe… i don’t know. just my thoughts. that’s all i’m gonna say to defend eli, cuz in reality we all don’t really know him SO WE DON’T KNOW WHATS GOING ON IN THAT HEAD OF HIS, lol.

Chair has definitely helped keep a constantly slumping GG at least afloat in the ratings and thus on the air and I’d hazard a wager considering what the ratings were for The Heat is On given it focused a lot on Dolly J that the same thing is probably happening. So while you may not like these storylines they probably are helping to keep your shows on the air. Fans always love a good ship. Especially if the two involved are good looking.

I don’t want another repeat of Craig where literally every episode became about his problems and all his squeeing fangirls didn’t care that it was completely wrecking the show. I get that vibe from the whole Eli thing. Fitz and Eli’s issues seemed to come out of nowhere and the initial problem wasn’t epic at all. Fitz took off the skullhead on Eli’s car? OMG tragedy! /end sarcasm. I mean if he had taken a baseball bat to his car or spraypainted it I could understand. As it stands, Eli should have just gone to the nearest “shoppin fer da mall goffs” store and got a new one. 58. I really hope Eli is a schizophrenic, even though I haven’t seen any clear signs of schizo. (I’m a psych major with a huge thing for mental disorders. Schizophrenia fascinates me the most.)

Honestly I think he might be a sociopath, but I think that’s more of me hoping that they’ll cover more disorders.

I honestly think its possible he has no soul, whether it be sociopathy or simply his past- which would be a big twist. There could be something in his past that has caused him to be dead inside, or become desensitized to violence hence his “obsessed with death” reputation (which he says is not just a reputation.)

But I’m getting a little far ahead of myself. But remember- sociopaths are charming. They’re manipulative. They can be the nicest people, yet deep down have no conscience. If this is the case, he can have plenty of motives for his charm.. not even so much a big evil plot; he could just be trying not to be found out as a sociopath (it’s really no fun for anyone, soul or not, if your stuck in therapy and no one trusts you.. not to mention, no trust = no way of manipulating)

If he does in fact have a mental disorder, they wouldn’t choose one that’s completely unknown. The ones most likely to be used are Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Social anxiety disorder, Generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, agoraphobia, ocd, ptsd, antisocial, borderline, histrionic, and narcissistic personality disorder, among may others.

If anything, I would think he’s either narcissistic, or is bipolar (but with more hypomania than craig).

Sorry for the novel, I just adore psychoanalyzing people, real or fake. :P

I don’t really care though, unless Eli is in that episode… or Alli steps up her game and realizes how annoying she has become. Her episodes were the best thing about Seasons 8 & 9 … but with Eli & Adam now, she’s just lost in the fold. I’m making mac n cheese tonight… it’d be nice to have a Degrassi leak for dessert. :-)

And yes, I love Eli… no I’m not like a “Bieber” fan (god I hate him, I’ll take Greyson Chance any day of the week) … mostly for the reasons the psych major with an obsession for mental illnesses loves Eli… I’ve suffered from depression so all that stuff is highly fascinating for me. I’m most interested in socio/psychopaths or serial killers… of which I am doubting Eli is any of the three at the moment… seems to me he is an S & M type. At this point it’s difficult to pin down WHO exactly he is… which makes Munro’s interpretation of it all the more phenomenal. He can’t know much more than we do.

  63. What a twist it’d be if it turned out that Eli WAS a sociopath with no sincere feelings for Clare, hence the mixed signals (seems into her, but isn’t)! We as the audience would end up feeling just as heartbroken and betrayed as her. But I doubt that the writers would be that cruel (unless they too are sociopaths). It’s been established pretty clearly that Eli does admire Clare, and cares about her feelings and what she thinks of him (the visit to her house, the willingness to make peace with Fitz after she insisted).

I had a theory that maybe Eli had a sibling who was bullied, unable to stand up for themselves, and ultimately died (by suicide, substance abuse, or as a direct result of bullying), which could explain why he surrounds himself with tokens of death–he’s still in mourning. It’d also explain this intense desire to not let himself be a victim, and to protect the younger, quiet Adam. That’d also explain his “dark past”. I have a feeling that like Darcy, Clare will also be something of a metaphor for “God’s love”, forgiveness, redemption, etc. She could become a sort of guardian angel to Eli, encouraging him to get over his past and move on. I dunno, though. A sibling dying doesn’t seem quite shocking enough. And I think hat Eli’s being hailed by the writers as a totally unique and atypical character.

    1. I like your theory, and even though it may not be shocking, if done correctly it could make for a very dramatic and intense plot. Plus he does have a twin brother, maybe they could use him to play his brother(wishful thinking) and loosing a twin is like loosing half of yourself.

When we actually find out what the deal is with his character it’ll be fun to see if people guessed right or where completely wrong XD

  66. Ya know, I’m starting to think that Fitz is the one who dies, this season. Anyone notice how many enemies he’s made in such a short period of time? I feel like that’s all building up to something. Every school has bullies, and very often, kids who are bullied just wish that they could KILL their oppressors. But what would happen if the bully did die? I feel that Fitz is deliberately being portrayed as this ass with NO redeeming qualities so that we hate him as much as his peers do. If he were to die, it’d force our protagonists (and the audience) to acknowledge that although Fitz was a jerk, he was human, had a family, and was just a troubled, probably misunderstood kid. Every bully has a story, and Fitz’s death would enable the writers to shed light on the bully’s home background in an different way. Plus, I’m totally grabbing at straws here, in the Shark In The Water promo, Fitz is wearing a (bird) skull pendant around his neck. Skull = death?

Nobody says that his acting is horrible and that he doesn’t have any chemistry on screen. I think he’s a multi-dimensional character that has a great storyline, and it doesn’t hurt that he’s cute too.

  68. I have no fraggin clue anymore who will kill themselves or even if there will be suicide instead of just a death. But if we’re talking about people not being in the opening credits that could end up dying – Zane! He’s said he has no main story but is heavily involved in a lot of the plots (as we can see from the promo pics.) So… death? And I hate to admit it, but I’m even starting to agree with Degrassi Nation about Declan dying. Ugh! I didn’t want to agree but…

I just don’t think Eli will be committing suicide anymore. Especially if the boiling point ends with a death (and All Falls Down? That’s pretty obvious). Besides if he does have sociopathic tendencies … those kinds of people think too highly of themselves to commit sideways (talented mr. ripley, anyone?). They still need to do suicide, but since Stephen has made it pretty obvious that he wants to continue Degrassi for as long as possible than they have time to make that storyline happen. I still believe, however, that Eli will be involved in or somehow related to whatever death happens. I just hope he FINALLY gets a main plot in the back 24.

  76. I agree with most of your reviews Kari. You hit it spot on on a lot of things. I disagree with a few things (namely, KC and his mother. I personally don’t think THAT storyline is over. But I’m jaded.)

But all these silly :umg, Eli is such a sociopath!” comments are…silly. One, socipathy isn’t something that exists in mordern pyschology language today. You would have what is called Anti-social personality disorder. Eli shows no signs of this. Hell, if you notice, he hardly even touched Fitz in the fight scene. Hardly “sadistic.”

secondly–This prank was fairly harmless. I admit, at the end of part one I was disappointed in Eli. I figured he thought Fitz would actually be arrested and have some sort of serious ramifications, thus taking Fitz out of the picture which..isnt how it works. Obviously I was wrong, and he knew exactly what would happen (which, essentially, was nothing. Minor inconvience and maybe a fake ID charge, which Fitz brought on himself by accepting a fake ID). Where he was wrong was thinking this would stop Fitz.

If Degrassi had pulled an alternative universe scenario where Fitz’ life would be ruined by having a FAKE I.D with some arsonists name on it, then fine. Sadistic. But it wasn’t, and in the end Fitz had to spend a couple hours explaining that he was a jackass who accepted a fake ID from someone whom he bullied without checking the name. Then maybe he gets a fake ID charge. Hardly traumatic.

He helped her open open in her writing, thus making her a better writer and a stronger person for being able to put how she feels on a page, instead of bottling it up. He helped her confront her mom about her parents issues. So, he’ll definately bring drama to her life but I think it’s fair to say that 100% of it WON’T be drama/bad/dragging her down.

  78. Fitz is pointless. He can’t even PRETEND to be tough. he’s a terrible bully because he is so NOT intimidating in any way. In S9 he was the obnoxious, pervy jackass guy. Should have stayed that way. I’d rather Owen just be the main bully – he’s been doing a much better job of being a douchebag than Fitz.

I actually like Eli now. No, I don’t think he’s attractive, but I can see why people think he is (this is when I get 40 thumbs downs). BUT! The moment I really began to love his character is in Try Honesty (2). He seemed so evil, and totally unapologetic. The look he gave Fitz when he was in the cop car was really chilling and eerie. I’m very interested in seeing more of this behavior from him.

This whole Leia thing is interesting. I mean, she has yet to be in ANY episode, and yet she’s featured in the main credits, which seems pointless considering she’s gone after 1024. And 1024 just HAPPENS to be the “boiling room” episode that is supposed to change Degrassi forever. Maybe there is no relation, but there might be.

I wish Fiona would interact more with other students. It kind of seems like she still goes to a different school.

Also, I can’t believe HJ and Declan broke up. They were so strangely romantic for a teenage couple. It wasn’t all about hormones with them and there was little drama. The idea of HJ and Declan together turns my stomach. This would have been more appropriate for S7, when Holly J and Anya were frenemies, and when Holly J was still a conniving little witch. Also, HJ kind of liked Sav in S7.

And when the subject of sex came up, he says “gross”… and in a future episode will give mixed signals to claire (some people who had been sexually abused as a child tend to be turned off from sex and relationships).

      1. Sexual abuse in childhood can lead to worthlessness, and death obsession can come from many things; it doesn’t have to mean he killed anyone or even experienced death.

It could be that his hatred for his abuser makes him obsessed with death- maybe he wishes he could kill the one who abused him. His violence towards Fitz could be misplaced violence; the excessive rage could be that he sees a connection between the two; Fitz hurting him physically by kicking his gonads, and his abuser possibly hurting him physically as well as touching him inappropriately.

Rage and anger are some side effects of sexual abuse.. But I would guess it happened middle childhood, around 6-11 years old, while he’s old enough to understand what was going on and thus be turned off from sex.

I don’t see Jenna as being someone sexually abused.. Even with years of healing I just don’t see that in her.

However, still no male victims of sexual abuse (without counting KC’s situation with the coach, which I don’t. I was expecting him to be molested, not have a hooker hired for him.)

Either way, sexual abuse affects boys and girls very differently, and while most openly feel sorry for a girl who got molested, its kind of a weird situation with boys.

Or, if he has a little sister or brother its possible that the younger sibling was beaten or sexually abused, which gives him that “superhero” need to protect people and stop a bully from hurting anyone, especially if he wasn’t able to protect someone from something major in his past. It could be that his younger sibling may have even been beaten to death (although that would lead to a weird living situation, but they haven’t really talked about his home life so i suppose its possible)

  83. i have a theory about jenna and the whole boiling point summer finale type episode. My theory about jenna as mentioned before was sort of a sexual abuse story with either her dad, mom, or one of her step brothers but now im not so sure. I do think she is hiding something about her family but mainly her parents. She has eluded two references that pertain to her family. One in one of the last episdoes of season 9 where kc suggested or asked if he could come over and she ignored that and jus kissed him and this season where kc made a statement out of frustration probly asking jenna if her mom ran out on her.( i dont remember exact words) This caused jenna to leave in the scene where they were at the dot and bianca was there.

As far as the “boiling point” situation i dont think anybody will die as everyone is saying or hoping even though it would be a storyline that could really grasp the acting of the characters. I do feel that the final two episodes of the summer will be the death of friendships but the beginnin of some new attiude of the characters. My guess is that alli and bianca are gonna have the catfight considered the best ever which will lead to a complete destruction of alli and clare and maybe some other characters friendships deteriorating which leads some of the important characters struggling to have that other person to start their new beginning with. this is a little bit confusing i know. but this is because no evidence even points toward this direction. I feel the school or majority of degrassi’s cast will change emotionally or so but not because of an actual murder/death

  89. Hello everyone! I finally got caught up with the show tonight!

Okay, this might be a long post because(as always) I have a lot to say! Please excuse me if I bring up things that have already been discussed to death! I didn’t have time to read all the comments and I needed to get all my thoughts out before I spontaneously combusted!

    1.Holly J & Declan

Ok, it’s no secret that I’m not a huge fan of this couple. It’s not a bigger secret that I really don’t care for Declan. I feel as if Declan took away the “edge” that Holly J once had. I mean I LOVED her and Blue but when she broke up with him, I thought that showed how independent and self-aware she was. She wanted to be Holly J, Blue on the other hand wanted her to be someone else, someone who she wasn’t, this fantasy girl who could fix everything. She was absolutely right about him only liking one side of her.

When you’re in a relationship with someone you must love them for EVERYTHING, the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. It takes more courage to love someone when they’re down and out. That’s when they need it the most. You must love that person for who he/she is and accept all of their sides. Not just the particular ones you like.

So I was thrilled when Holly J stood on her own two feet and didn’t let a man try and change her(Even though I LOVE Blue!) but all of that was thrown out of the window when Declan came along. Before you knew it Holly J was head over hills for Mr.Perfect. She was like a lovesick robot. After that Holly J went down hill and became a total bore.

So when Holly J thought he was cheating and broke up with him- I did a few back-flips and high-fived some strangers. Then I literally almost threw myself in front of a moving train when it all was revealed to be a big “misunderstanding” and that perfect Declan really wasn’t cheating. So Holly J went back to being a love sick robot who only wanted attend one of the most prestigious colleges in the world all because her rich sickeningly gorgeous boyfriend was going there.*I’m rolling my eyes incase you guys don’t know*

But I must say my feelings on Declan changed in Try Honesty 2. For the first time he let his “I’m too perfect to have a personality” guard down and we were able to see there was a REAL person inside of him! I felt so sad when Holly J told him to go and the way he was being mistreated by “monster eyes”(Chantay). So I really don’t know where I stand with him at the moment. I really don’t. I’m just happy HJ is staying true to herself and isn’t trying to change all for a boy.

    2. Eli

I read a few posts up top and I can’t believe some people are trying to infer that Eli is a sociopath. 0.o

Do you even know what that means? There is no way Eli is a sociopath. Hell, if you’re going to accuse someone of being one then at least accuse FITZ. He IS the guy who does nothing but torment others for fun. Have we actually seen him do anything but? No? Okay then. I just really don’t get how Eli can be considered a sociopath. It’s obvious he cares tremendously for Clare, Adam, and even Sav, unless they’re all pawns in his evil plan of world domination. -_-

Come on people. If Eli is a sociopath then so is Fitz. Hell why not throw Holly J in too? She has done and is STILL doing some cold hearted things. Why don’t we just label EVERYONE who has done something horrible a “sociopath” while we’re at it?

Once again, please look up the term before you throw it around. Eli is not a sociopath. Though he might have some other problems.

I for one was thrilled that he didn’t pull a “Drew” and feel “bad” for what he did. If I was getting bullied and I got my “revenge” you think I would be looking all sad? Hell no! I’d probably do more than Eli and do a few cartwheels. I might even “walk it out”. Yes, I can be devious and harsh when I want too, doesn’t make me a sociopath.

I mean I can see if Eli set out and just did this to an innocent person, but he did it to a jerk who was treating him like crap- so my “sympathy” for Fitz is pretty much non-existent.

    3.Desperation

My dear sweet Fiona…get off your butt and go mingle! You should have NO problem making friends. You’re beautiful, compassionate, and just all around awesome! I’m pretty sure there are other people at Degrassi BESIDES Holly J that you can be friends with.

I’m just tired of seeing Fiona always being with Holly J & Declan. It’s almost like she’s a apparition that only these two characters can see. She’s invisible to everyone else. I mean there’s a lot of great things they can do with Fiona that doesn’t revolve around her brother or her brother’s girlfriend.

Why not have Fiona become friends with Bianca? I think that would be awesome. Two girls from two different worlds becoming pals. Maybe Bianca could be “using” Fiona for her money. Maybe Bianca could also treat her like crap and insult her, make fun of her, yet Fiona is too blinded by the thought of having a “friend” that she doesn’t realize that she is getting beat down once again, only this time it’s MENTALLY! I understand this may be a bit similar to Holly J/Anya, but it could still be interesting nevertheless. I could totally see B breaking Fiona down and hurting her mentally, while also leading her down a path to drugs and God knows what else!

Or…maybe Fiona could share a bond with Connor? Come on, Connor is misunderstood and is an outsider, why not have the two become pals? Maybe Drew or Chantay or someone popular is harassing him and Fiona comes to his defense and then BOTH of them are picked on as a result. They start to bond even more as they realize how “strange” and “weird” they are to other people, but with each other they can just be themselves.

I’m not saying they should be a couple, but just very close friends who “get” each other. This is coming from personal experience considering the fact that I’ve always felt abnormal and out of place among other people my age. It was always the other “weird” ones that I would connect with. This could be beautiful IF done and acted right.

Alli’s desperation to be popular could be interesting. What if Alli just starts giving it up to every hot popular guy who comes along? That need for male attention; thet need to be NOTICED leads her to becoming a big whore.

She begins to lose grasp on everything and just becomes a slut. Pretty soon the whole entire school finally begins to notice her- but not in a good way. She starts to get teased and humiliated, she gets a few of her own hate groups directed at her. People throw things at her house, spray paint shocking insults all around her home. She then hits rock bottom and her entire world comes crashing down.

She must pick herself up and somehow deal with the crazyness that she created. She has achieved more than fame, she is not INFAMOUS. The whole school hates her. Her parents are upset with her. Her brother is furious. She is alone. Lost. Now THIS is how you do a “I want to be popular no matter what!” story in a classic “Go There!” way.

I think that’s it. Sorry for the long read. I didn’t set out to write a Lord Of The Rings sequel. ;)

    2. I hope your sociopath comment wasn’t towards me. I do know the definition, and am studying that entire subject (psychology) intensely.

I am speculating, and sociopaths aren’t always who you would expect or what you would expect. Being a jerk and a bully (fitz) does not equal sociopath. There are sociopaths out there that seem to lead normal lives, but are simply empty inside. (ie, someone married with children simply to gain money, or to get something out of it. You would never know that this charming, sweet, understanding person actually has no soul and doesn’t care about the person at all.) Fitz isn’t manipulative- not that we know of. He’s just an ass. Holly J is manipulative- but we have seen REAL emotions. Either way, women can be manipulative as it is (not sexist- I am a woman and I admit that a lot of us ARE manipulative.)

And either way, people are just speculating. I doubt he is a sociopath, but it would be a fun twist. No need to whine or accuse people of not knowing what they are talking about, because I do know what I am talking about.

Now, all the situations we’ve seen of him do not lead me to believe he is a sociopath. But the last episode, he showed manipulation and no sensitivity. He went farther than most people would in a VERY manipulative way. Does this make him a sociopath? Not necessarily. Does this lead people to speculate that this may be a possibility? Maybe.

I’m more convinced with the sexual abuse theory now that I have thought of it. It seems to make more sense than a mental disorder (not that I’m not hoping for one!)

      1. It’s funny how you say you’re studying psychology intensely, yet aren’t calling out the fact that sociopathy isn’t a term used in moderm DSM language. Anti Social Personality Disorder, or ASPD, is the proper term.

Eli still shows none of the basic DSM warning signs of it, so I really don’t get it.

His prank, I didn’t approve of at the end of part one because I underestimated Eli. I thought HE thought Fitz was going to get into more trouble, and potentially ruin his life rather than what would happen in actuality–which is nothing. Maybe a fake ID charge–which Fitz brings on himself. He surprised me at the end of part two saying he knew that’s exactly what would happen. Which means two things: He knows how to pull off pranks and really thinks about his actions, he is very purposeful in his intent. and He doesn’t have logical follow-through. Of course Fitz is going to get WORSE now that he’s been one-upped by his target. But then again, judging by the end comment made by Eli, maybe that’s his intention. Which signifies more a need to lash out at something, rather than apathetic behavior.

The fact is he just hasn’t shown any of the classic signs of someone with ASPD, except that he’s charismatic. But that, as well all know, is a trait pretty much everyone in degrassi possesses. If anything, he’s shown to be the opposite of apathy–extremely passionate.

I dunno about the sexual abuse, but then again I didn’t see it from Jane in the beginning really either. It’d definately be an interesting twist.

      3. addie, I tend to use terms that aren’t used in the DSM. I still use “manic depression” rather than “bipolar disorder” in most cases, because I simply prefer that term. I am not a psychiatrist, nor am I diagnosing someone (theyre just characters.. not real people.) Nor do we have enough information to even fully understand his personality. I am simply speculating.

There is no need to be rude, I am studying psychology *but I am not a psychologist*. I am not saying I have a doctorate in it or even plan to go into the field. I simply just love psychology.

And remember, gender identity disorder is still in the DSM. The DSM isn’t perfect, and isn’t what should be the end-all be-all when it comes to analyzing people. I am diagnosed with social anxiety disorder, yet I am still outgoing. Psychology doesn’t *always* follow specific paths and guidelines.

I am simply saying that it seems like he may have some sociopathy in him. And again, I am speculating. There is no need to get upset or challenge me on it, because I am just speculating (and moreso hoping than anything. But I’d rather him be schizophrenic; but theres even less signs that that would happen.)

    3. there are flaws in the DSM, but that doesn’t mean that it’s exactly right to say someone who has APD is a sociopath, a term that is little understood to the point that it doesn’t really mean anything anymore.

and…might have “some sociopathy” in him? really? well, you’re not actually going into the field…so did you get that from reading wikipedia? what the hell does having SOME SOCIOPATHY mean? that sometimes you are a cold, heartless bastard who feels no sympathy, but other times you can be a warm, loving, normal human being? that just sounds like typical human nature to me. if people could have “some sociopathy,” every goddamn character on degrassi would be a sociopath, and like the poster above me said, holly j and fitz would be a lot more sociopathic.

and while we’re discussing using the proper psychological terms…i know whether people have “souls” or not is commonly discussed in abnormal psych (not!). if the definition of “sociopathy” were “not having a soul,” then i guess having some sociopathy means you kind of sort of have a soul.

okay, so what have we learned from our not-really psychologist friend? eli could totally kind of sort of have a soul but not really. that’s not how the DSM would say it, but it works, amirite?

By the way, I never claimed to be a godamn psychologist. I just said I had an interest in mental disorders.

And no, not wikipedia. Textbooks. Just because I’m not going into the field of psychiatry doesn’t mean that I don’t take classes or adore psychology. Although right now I’m more in child psych classes because I’m going to be a teacher.

Im pretty sure alli leaves the show after all falls down I would love if she comes back more mature ready to date dave and hang out with her crownd claire, conor, ect. But I hope by then dave doesn’t want her anymore and alli pursues him until he forgves her and they finally go out. And alli realizes claire has moved on from her and has her own new friends eli, adam, maybe fiona? And she tries to win her back. Can’t believe we`re half way through the boiling point already. But can’t wait for mbiac, tdoto, purple pills, and all falls down.

    1. Glad someone agrees. I know some people probably thought I was insane for suggesting Connor and Fiona being friends. But they actually have more in common than what meets the eye.

Both are always seen with the same characters(Delcan & Holly J for Fiona; Dave & Wesley for Connor). Not to mention how both misunderstood they are. It’s a friendship that I could see working if done right. Besides, it’ll finally give Connor something to do besides being Dave’s sidekick.

And what happened to Connor and Claire’s friendship? It’s like that was just…dropped. It would be nice to see them hanging out in a scene or something. Claire seemed to be the only person to really “get” and understand Connor. She stood up for him. Dave is cool but he’s sometimes a bit of a dick to Connor.

I just would like to see Connor do SOMETHING for once. He’s the second most useless character next to Leia. Hell, even Chantay does more than him.

  98. I, for one, am excited that Degrassi is focusing more on the characters and their journeys this season rather than the shocking situations they are put in.

The last few seasons have been all about trying to “shock” viewers. Those particular seasons ended up feeling gimmicky and hallow. The characters felt like walking cardboard-Just there to be put in crazy situations week after week- Nothing more.

So I’m happy this season is changing that. I sometimes read tweets from viewers and of course you have the people who are all “OMG! This episode was boring! Nothing happened! All they did was talk! Blah blah!”. I guess some people just don’t appreciate character development. There’s a whopping 48 episodes this season so that stories can grow and live for MUCH longer. This makes Degrassi feel like a normal TV show rather than an “Issue Of The Week” after school special.

“Go there” moments are great, but they have a much bigger impact when they occur in a developed story and not out of thin air.

    1. jhon, I know how you feel. It sucks Fiona and several other characters might be leaviing this season. I’ve said over and over they need to stop adding new characters who are juniors/seniors. Start adding freshmen only. Maybe a few sophomores. We need characters who can stay around longer. I’m really angry that Drew is a junior when he could’ve easily been made a sophomore since Luke is 15 in real life. Bianca & Eli could’ve easily been 10th graders instead of juniors as well. I mean come on, they’ll all be seniors next season and they JUST got here! It’s ridiculous! Degrassi at the moment is like one huge revolving door. They need to fix that ASAP.

I love Bianca. She’s very real. I grew up around girls like her.

    1. jhon,

Actually my 7th and 8th grade days were wilder than my HS years. LMAO! HS was boring for me. But Middle School? That was pretty wild, let me tell you.

If they introduced a new batch of 7th or 8th graders- I wouldn’t have a problem at all, just as long as they aren’t treated like little kids. The 7th & 8th grade of today is not the same as 7th & 8th grade of yesteryear. I know for one kids dealt with just as much drama in middle school as they did in High School.

So as long as the writers don’t try and have the 7th/8th graders dealing with baby issues like “Who will you take to the dance?” while the 10th, 11th, and 12th graders get to deal with more “mature” topics-I’m fine. EVERYONE should be dealing with the same type of problems.

They pulled that crap with the freshmen in Season 8. They gave the older characters really serious issues while the younger ones got really corny and weak stories. I watch the episode where Claire isn’t sure who to take to the dance; I freaking cringe. I couldn’t believe these were supposed to be freshmen. You would think elementary school with the weak stories they were given.

So long story short- I would welcome 7th/8th grade characters if they are treated like everyone else and not like 5 year olds.

  110. So I wanted to say something about Eli, but first I want to make it clear that I don’t like his character because he’s cute or a hottie or a psycho. At first when I saw him in the previews, I thought he was some dumb kid who’s gonna screw up KC and Clare storylines. Now, I think he’s very real.
I admire his character because he had the patience, stones, and brains to get under Fitz skin. Which, I think, he managed to do. I’m somebody like Clare or maybe Adam. I tend to get stepped on and taken advantage of due to my outward kindness. I’ve developed a mind that is like what Eli’s personality seems to be. He reminds me of a male charcter I created that is basically everything I wish I could be. I think things that Eli says, but I wouldn’t say them, like Clare. I wouldn’t want to scream in the street.
If he’s depressed, it might be pretty bad. If anyone here read The Outsiders in middle school, and rememeber Johnny Cade, then that’s what I’m thinking with Eli. Being a sneaky, underhanded, manipulative genius and justice doesn’t always come from being some kind of psycho. People get fed up with things. Maybe he’s watched people he loved taken advantage of without being able to do anything about it. Turning in to a sneaky bastard is what happens at times. Holly J locked Fiona in that closet, and to me that’s only mild. Eli knows what he’s doing, and he has no problem creepying people out. I don’t think he’s a straight up psycho, I think he’s smart. But if he ends up having mental problems, well, I’ve always believed that we’ve all got mild ones. Maybe he’s gay at the end ithe day and can’t accept if? Who knows what’s up with him? I can’t wait to see it though. He’s the most interesting new character so far. I love Adam too.
I’m totally an Eli lover, but not so much the way people probably think. I want to hear what else you guys think! I liked reading all your theories!

  112. I haven’t read all the comments but I wanted to suggest this as a background for Eli G.
His father passed away in a freak accident and rather than he being worried of the wrath of his drunken father as suggested by other commenter’s I think Eli has such reverence for his father’s prized possession. I think Eli was taken in by his grandfather or his uncle who is a mortician. As a way to cheer up Eli they rebuilt “morty” his hearse for him to keep and keep his mind off of the tragic loss of his father. Rather than being a well off rich boy Eli’s family comes from a hardworking and genuine group of people who live normal non crazy lives.

Eli’s interaction and relationship with Clare is genuine. He has feelings for her that he obviously isn’t sure of where it will go. The Death card from the tarot wasn’t for him or for her but for the emotional turmoil that Eli has put behind him and Clare becoming the only person he can trust with such personal information.

We’ve seen that Eli is by far a good guy by helping Adam, his respect for Sav and his concern for Clare’s familial life. I really hope to see in future episodes more of the two of them together. The combination of Clare and Eli’s relationship along with their two story lines will be the most intriguing to watch. :)
