In February, Degrassi unveiled a series of videos called “The Sitch,” where the actors would give their thoughts on the situations their characters were in.
Would you ever post a photo of an ex? There’s some pretty specific scenarios in which it’d be acceptable, but normally that isn’t something one should be doing. In Lola’s case she was doing it because she was being butthurt. I know all about that having to watch someone you had feelings for be with someone else, but she’s smart enough to know posting it would cause trouble.

Is wearing makeup stupid? I covered this quite a bit in my review of #IWokeUpLikeThis. Yael’s rant was completely out of line, and what makes what she did feel so real is that people in real life are so obnoxiously dismissive of other people’s activities on a regular basis. Girls should be able to wear makeup for whatever reason they choose. If you don’t like something good for you, but LET. PEOPLE. LIVE.

The slut shaming of Esme Song: This has been one of the wildest things I’ve ever seen on Degrassi, and it exposes just how easily good people can also engage in such problematic behavior (Next Class has done an excellent job of showing this in all 3 seasons). Characters casually dissed Esme in the first two seasons, however in Season 3 we saw not only individuals but ENTIRE GROUPS of people trashing Esme, everything from calling her crazy/damaged to mocking her sexual habits. This is the kind of story that should make you overly aware of how you choose to talk about other people in real life.

Why are periods uncomfortable to talk about? Coming from the perspective of an adult male, it’s crazy that periods would be such a taboo issue. I grew up in a house full of women so I’m unfazed by anything period related…if I can do it, so can you! Also, shoutout to Tiny for being the opposite of a lot of guys I know who wanna play “down there,” but can’t handle period talk or feminine hygiene shopping for their ladies.
