This is turning out to be a big week for Degrassi news!

Yesterday it was announced that Season 2 of Degrassi: Next Class will be released on Netflix starting July 22. Today, Entertainment Weekly broke the news that Degrassi has officially been renewed for Seasons 3 and 4:

Epitome Pictures has already been preparing for s3 and s4 for a while now, they’ve just been waiting on official word of a renewal. Last month, auditions were held for two new characters who will make their debut in Season 3.

Both seasons will follow the same 10-episode format as Seasons 1 and 2. Filming for Seasons 3  and 4 will begin in a couple of months, and the episodes will air in 2017.

  1. Does anyone else wish the new episodes would be an hour long? I think that would be nice since there are only ten episodes in the season. And I hope we get to learn a little more about what is going on with Hunter in the next couple seasons.

    1. An hour long each would be nice since its 10 eps per season and it looks like they are only going to do 2 seasons per year. That’s not a lot for a half hour show, especially when anyone watching on Netflix will probably watch the whole season in 1-3 days. I guess irs most important to just do the shows as well as possible, become established on Netflix, and then maybe expand length or eps in the future.

  2. Personally, I wish they’d just do 1 season a year, with 20, 24, or 26 episodes split (10&10, 12&12, or 13&13). Like 1.0 (or 1A) released in January and then 1.5 (or 1B) released in the summer or Fall, and repeat that cycle each year. It’s better then releasing 2 seasons a year with only 10 episodes a season. That way, we’re getting more episodes a season and more content in general. So my hopes that when they get renewed next year for season 5 (that’ll air in 2018), they just give them a big episode order for the season and split the season into parts. Continuing on the 2 seasons a year format will ensure we’re at 20 seasons in 10 years.

    1. The Season numbering on Family Channel is that. 20 episodes a season (1 broadcast year from Fall to Fall), but Netflix doesn’t release anything less than a season. So we get different numbering between the two release venues. I do wish the seasons had a few more episodes, but complaining that they release two 10 episode seasons a year instead of one 20 episode season is just… nonsense.

      1. That’s not why I’m “complaining”. That’s not even what I was saying. I don’t want 2 10 episode seasons a year. I just want 1 20 episode (or more ) seasons a year. Family hasn’t stated what they’ll be doing in terms of seasons yet. We don’t know if the episodes airing in the summer is 1B or season 2 for Family. Re-read what I posted. And also, Netflix has actually ventured into releasing more than a season. Their new show The Ranch is being released in 2 parts of 10 episodes under the season 1 title. It’s not “s1” and “s 2”, just 1 with 20 episodes. That’s why I’m saying it’d be best to release Next Class like that. If Family is airing the 20 episodes as season 1, Netflix should as well.
