Season 12 Telenovela Update
In early February I reported that Season 12 would kick off with a 5-week telenovela block this summer. As of now, MuchMusic has trimmed down the summer block to only 4 weeks:
The premiere would be on Monday, July 9th, and the finale would air on Thursday, August 2nd. There’s still no word on how many episodes Degrassi is producing this season, but the telenovela dropping down this low kinda worries me at the moment (since ratings are at their strongest during the telenovela). Hopefully it just means more episodes distributed throughout the rest of the year (Fall 2012/Spring 2013).
Here’s a look at the current Season 12 schedule based on this chart and the episodes we know:

Monday July 9th: Ep 1201 – Come As You Are Pt. 1
Tuesday July 10th: Ep 1202 – Come As You Are Pt. 2
Wednesday July 11th: Ep 1203 – Walking On Broken Glass Pt. 1

I dont think so. Much’s show The LA Complex gets about 50,000 viewers (averaged.) And they ordered new episodes. Degrassi is just fine.

The last time I saw ratings for Degrassi on MuchMusic (summer 2011) it was doing between 150-250 k which isn’t bad at all. Actucally it surprises me because Pretty Little Liars averages between 200-300 k on Much. It’s possible the ratings have dropped drastically though. However this could be because if they do plan on continuing The LA Complex, they’ll need more time for filming (and I doubt they can film both at the same time seeing as the crew is basically the same and it’s filmed in the same places).

L.A Complex is probably going to be getting alot more viewers on CW though.

It could mean a lot of things, giving the cast and crew more of a rest, financial reasons (lots of tv networks are making budget cuts), much might want to free those weeks up for more shows and so on. I don’t think Degrassi would get cancelled so abruptly, its both Teen Nick and Much Musics flagship show, the only thing that would threaten it is a new show that just DOMINATED it in the ratings, which has yet to happen.

Well that’s unfortunate, but at least this means we could be getting a longer block of episodes in the fall! Now they’ll have 24 left over to air throughout the 2012-2013 season!
