The Degrassi cast returned to Epitome Pictures today for the first readthrough of Season 12. They covered the first four episodes of the new season because they film 4 episodes at a time (filming will begin sometime within the next month). The telenovela format is returning this summer for a third straight year, so today’s readthrough covered the first week worth of episodes:
1201/1202: Come As You Are Pt. 1 and 2
1203/1204: Walking On Broken Glass Pt. 1 and 2

The readthrough also unveiled three new cast members: Dylan Everett (@DylanEvz), Demetrius Joyette (@slsjoyette), and Sarah Fisher (@sarahfisher28). Sarah will play a character named Becky…there’s no word on the characters for Dylan and Demetrius.

Noooo please go back to doing promos the way you used to during Now Or Never, I hate these super vague promos that do nothing to get people excited for the episode. TeenNick is going hard to promote its Friday night block, so they’re doing “half” promos now (their 30-second promos are half Degrassi, half Dance Academy)…that means you’re really our only hope MuchMusic.

Lame MuchMusic promo. Whatever. Promo’s tend to spoil the episode for me anyways. And is it just me or does it seem a tad bit unnecessary to systematically add three to four new cast member every single season. They have enough characters as it is. Can’t we just develop them a whole lot and add new members later on when the seniors graduate?

I agree, the first few seasons worked because there were only 2 new characters max and the background characters took a season to be promoted to regulars (if not more), which let characters develop more.
If anything, they should only add freshmen/sophmores, no juniors or seniors as regulars.

AGREED, especially now that they’re promoting new people every half season. It’s ridiculous, they can’t keep doing this without making some cuts. At this rate, there will be about 29 regulars in the first half of Season 12, assuming they keep everyone from New Beginnings. The only ones left to be confirmed are Connor, Dave, Wesley, Jenna, Owen, Imogen, Fiona and Ms. Oh.

That girl who plays Becky seriously looked like Paula Brancati there for a hot second. Definitely made me wonder what Jane was doing back at Degrassi until I scrolled down.

Don’t know how reliable the news on Degrassi Wiki is, but according to its page on season 12, Jess will return as a main cast member, Liam will be upgraded to main cast member, and Demetrius Joyette will play a character named Dallas. How they’re going to fit 5 new characters into the opening without having gotten rid of any of the seniors is beyond me, unless someone gets demoted to recurring character or dies.

They said that about the second half of season 11 as well. I don’t know why they are all so hung up on Liam and Jess. They are bland characters to me.

Degrassi needs to wait before they just add new people because half of the old characthers are left on the back burner which isnt right.

So if they are getting 3 new characters that means 3 old ones are leaving. My bet is Wesley, Owen and Connor. I know AJ is in college full time. Spencer has dropped twitter because he has been very bitter about Degrassi and not having much screen time. Sounds like he was just very unhappy. Daniel I believe is working very hard on his music.
Cristine and Jessica were at much music during the read through and Justin was in LA.
We will have to wait until this season is over to find out. Because the actors can’t talk about that.

Noooo, I don’t want Connor and Wesley to go! Wesley’s such a refreshing character. And I feel like Connor is just about ready to come into his own. Owen I could not care less about. He’s just a heinous human being with a tiny mouth. Though I dunno how they’d get around dropping his character altogether if his brother’s around. That’d be a little weird.
Also, the word is that Dylan will play a character named Josh.

And this is how the new characters end up becoming plot devices instead of well-rounded individuals we actually care about. I bet Wesley would’ve been my favorite male character if they actually spent time developing him.

I don’t know why they feel the need to add new characters every season. We just met Katie, Imogen, Mo, Jake, Tori, Tristan, Maya, and Zig..and that was only in season 11. They really should have waited to add brand new characters, after Katie’s class graduated. I’m not even interested to learn about these new characters, to be honest. They’ll most likely all just be plot devices in the first-half of season 12 to stir up relationship drama, and they’ll take up screen time from more deserving characters who have been on the show longer and need development.
