Riley’s vs. Drew
Drew's QB for now, but what'll happen when Riley returns from suspension?
Because they’re exact opposites in the comfort level of their sexualities, Zane serves as the perfect compliment to Riley. These two are a pleasure to watch onscreen.
The rivalry part of this storyline, especially in Part 1, is the highlight. I love how they still don’t like each other, even at the end of the plot. Really the only wrench in the storyline is that Drew’s mom has way too much of a role in dictating the outcome. Her actions make her the plot device that forces Riley into confessing about the hazing. That waters down the rivalry in Part 2, because Drew doesn’t have to do anything; his mom is essentially fighting the battle for him. And in Part 2 they step away from Drew holding Riley’s sexuality secret over his head. Drew’s the kind of arrogant, conniving character this show needs. Usually they’re the resident bad boy (in the form of characters like Jay), so it’s interesting that he happens to be a prep.
Something a lot of people were wondering/theorizing was whether or not Drew is gay or homophobic. I believe 100% that he is neither. I don’t think it would’ve mattered what Riley’s secret was, if Drew could use it to blackmail Riley to get that QB spot he would do it…it just so happened to be about Riley being gay.

KC’s Mom Returns
Things leading up to the ending is rushed, but the ending itself is very touching.
Everything was going along great in this storyline…until they decided to pick up the pace in Part 2 of Better Off Alone. It’s clear that KC is a baby when things don’t go his way. I found it difficult to sympathize (or empathize) with KC regarding his feelings toward his mom. I could feel bad for Craig because we witnessed his dad beating him in When Doves Cry. But I couldn’t sympathize with Sean in Back In Black, because even though we’d heard that his parents were terrible, we’d never seen them before that point. It’s hard to develop an opinion from nothing, and that’s how it feels with KC and his mom in this plot.
Despite KC making a big fuss just to suddenly drop it and forgive his mom, the rest of the plot is solid. I LOVED the approach to Better Off Alone, by setting up the storyline in both parts of 99 Problems. And Sam Earle’s acting is much improved from last season. Heck, this storyline is an improvement from the one they gave him last season.

Alli’s Quest For Popularity
Alli was my favorite character in Season 8, and Season 9. Heck, I even created a song dedicated to her awesomeness:
Her desire for boys and popularity were cute in those seasons, but now they’ve reached a level of obsession (going after Drew) and arrogance/entitlement (thinking she should just be handed a spot on the Power Squad/thinking just starting a dance crew would give her instant popularity).
If there’s one positive thing about Alli is that they’re remaining consistent with this character type, and hopefully there will be some development when they come back to this storyline later in the season.

Clare, Her Parents and Eli
The cuteness that is EClare.
I know people are thoroughly excited for the arrival of Adam, but Clare is the best character in Season 10 so far. So many people HATED Clare when she first joined the show, but people also tend to forget that it takes literally a couple of seasons for the average Degrassi character to reach a level of being awesome.
As for Clare and Eli, this comment posted here by user Nina sums up my thoughts PERFECTLY:
“I LOVE how this couple has been brought together not out of a mutual attraction to one another from the get-go (as in, “you’re hot, I wanna date you”), but because they were working together on school assignments, and bonded on an emotional level. When was the last time Degrassi did that? The most recent couple I can think of that wasn’t based on mutual lust from the beginning, one that took time to develop emotionally, is Palex, and that was 5 years ago (if we’re talking Original Palex)! There have been very few couples on the show who’ve started in such a way: Craig/Ashley, sort of Sean/Ellie, Jimmy/Ellie (even though they never “happened”), and in my opinion, THE couple that should have happened, Toby/Holly J. Even the more interesting couples of recent seasons: Johnny/Alli, Spinner/Jane, started only because the two involved were physically attracted to one another. Gold star to the writers for EClare! Now let’s pray they won’t screw them up!”

Can’t wait for next weeks episodes. Looks like almost everyone is getting in trouble by the cops; Sav, Adam, Bianca, Fitz, Eli. Holly J is probably going to overreact and assume that Declan is cheating and then she’ll cheat on him.

So happy to see KC get a happy ending, I’ve felt so bad for the guy this week, and hes one of my most likeable characters. Also love the Eli/Claire storyline, although they just repeated, KC/Claire (girl hates guy, guy makes CLaire go out of her comfort zone, Claire falls in love). But i still like it lol, gonna be great next week.

I think Alli needs to finally grow up lol. EVEN her fashion grew up from the days she was stashing clothes in her locker so Alli needs something strong and relate-able to happen to her OR at the very least Clare or even Jenna’s upcoming issue where she can support them and show a non-conceited Alli for the first time this season.
SPEAKING ABOUT Jenna and Alli they are apparently on good terms this season like when Alli was trying to get into powersquad she told Jenna to tell Chantay that she was a hardworker so maybe Alli may help out Jenna during her time of need coming up(it would be about time she paid her back for back in season 9 when she had a STD scare and Jenna supported her through it when Clare was being the old boring Clare lol)

I’m glad Jenna will be getting some episodes focused on her this season. I really don’t know how to feel about her. One moment she’s being a backstabber, then the next she’s being a supportive friend, then she’s being a bitch, then she’s being friendly, then she’s being a stalker ECT. Ughhhhhhhhh! lol. I just want to get inside her head and find out who she really is.

You know, I really hated Jenna up until these last couple of episodes where she tried to talk some sense into KC. But I am frustrated with the many sides of Jenna. Can they stick to just one? Haha!

I find it funny that of the four Holly J relationships to get hinted at by the show, the two with the best set-up were the two that never happened. Toby/Holly J and Spinner/Holly J had lovely build, but Blue/Holly J and Declan/Holly J were the two that happened (although Declan/Holly J had some build in Searching For, it wasn’t much).
I’m hoping that Alli’s boyhunting, and K.C.’s sudden reversal are shown to be misdirects. K.C.’s relationships seem to be based on want and need for someone to be on his side. The moment things go against him, he turns on them. I’m figuring K.C. will change sides again if someone more sympathetic to him comes along (like Bianca).
Alli’s boyhunting seems to be based on her view of ‘perfect’ school life. From way back in S8 she was crafted from the mold of ‘perfectly popular’ and every time that doesn’t happen she gets more defensive than she needs to be. Heat of the Moment being the best example of S8, Broken PROMises in S9, and now 99 Problems in S10. Which causes her to ignore/attack the people that actually want to be her friend.

I agree, I think their setting up something for KC and Alli. I was very happy to see KC at his mom’s house. I just hope neither of them screw it up. KC’s emotions are so volatile and he needs a strong adult to not take his crap. In fact, I’m a little worried that his mom covered for him in the meeting with Snake and the Coach. KC needs a firm hand and I fear his mom can’t do that for him. C’mon she went to TWO stores to look for some damn ice cream? Haha! My mom would have been all, “touch luck kiddo.”
Alli’s doing the whole Manny thing. But for me, Manny became a very likeable character after her breast surgery thing. She may be willing to do anything to be popular, but I think she has a good head on her shoulders. Bottomline, I think she’ll surprise us and smarten up. Plus, if Clare has her back, she’s not all bad.

I am excited for EClare and I hope they don’t just DROP the K.C. going bad story line I think he needs to lose himself for a bit like Sean did and then come back around.But hopefully they write it better cause sean just left which was a total fail.
Anyway I agree with the comment the build up of EClare pisses me off and excites me at the same time because the fan girl in me wants them to just bam kiss already but the writer in my knows its better if they pace it out and make them connect. They are two opposites and yet one in the same which I really thinks makes them connect. And I still agree with the girl above lets hope they don’t screw them up but I actually see them being a long term couple on the show like Spinner and Jane were but they won’t do stupid things like Jane did cheating with Declan. I also have high hopes that K.C. will get a little jealous and have a rivalry with Eli. Anyway I could ramble about these two all day. Oh one last thing did anyone notice in better off alone part one the zoom in on Eli’s hand to see his skull ring then when Clare is typing to him it looks like she is wearing it? But I’m not sure so feel free to correct me if I assumed wrong.
About Alli I agree she used to be one of my favorites to watch even though in the very beginning of her I was annoyed. She grew on me but now she is too much the way she dismisses Clare’s comments and I feel like Clare can’t confide in Alli at all. She needs to grow up but I heard somewhere Alli and Clare are going to grow apart because of Clare’s attachment to Eli and she is going to be getting close with Jenna but this again could just be a rumor. I hope that the time apart maybe forces Alli to grow up and realize she needs her voice of reason.
Adam I am excited for them to introduce him I think he is going to be one of the best additions Degrassi has made to the show in a long time. Eli & Adam are my new favorite characters but I’m getting off topic, I like that it seems Clare and Eli are friends with Adam I just hope it stays that way when his secret comes out & that they have his back.
And Finally the parents of this week. I like the build they are getting at with Clare’s that it wasn’t just BAM its over. I really felt for the mothers this week both of them looked so heart broken. And Clare’s dad was an ass to the mother but I saw on the much music promo someone saying to Anya her mother was having an affair what if its with Clare’s father? Juicy. I cried watching Clare read the letter in class and at the end with K.C. and his mom. But my last comment on this WHERE IS DARCY? I know shes on 90210 but you would think they would maybe mention her, I guess she fell in love with a native in Kenya and his disowned her family?

Clare’s been such a terrific character this season, and we’re only a few episodes in! I hope that she doesn’t go the Emma way: from the voice of reason, to annoying hypocrite, to devoid of any distinct personality whatsoever, to marrying someone she never spoke to. I want her to stay a “good” girl without being a prude. Girls who stay level-headed throughout highschool are a dying breed!

I know I’m probably the minority here, but being someone who was sort of in KC’s position, I understand why he doesn’t want to go back to his mother. Obviously, something she did deeply traumatized him, and more people should listen to him. It’s as if someone went up to me and said, “You should give your father a second chance!”. No.
No one wanted Craig to go back with his father. Everyone told him to stay away, but people are pushing KC towards his mother who he wants nothing to do with? That’s setting up for some trouble there. Just saying…
And on the subject of EClare…. I love it. They would be such a cute couple. Eli is turning Clare into an actual interesting character, instead of just… “I need to get KC back, but… I can’t do anything mean!”. She’s really changing, and she’s actually becoming one of my favorite characters now. Plus, Eli is pretty cute too. ;)

I did not want him to go back to his mother at all! Even if she has changed, they’re putting him back into an environment where he will make him paranoid and he won’t be comfortable in his own house!
His mom used to get high and lock KC in the closet? I could NEVER forgive someone if they did that to me. I think it is so sad that KC has to move back with his mom, espiecaly because we know this is a catalyst to badass KC. It bothered me so much that no one would help (except his social worker) and fight for him! If i were Jenna, (well I guess I technically AM jenna haha) I would fight for my boyfriend because even if he didn’t want to tell me what happened, by how badly he didn’t want to go back I’d know he needed to stay at his group home!!! She bothered me a ton this episode!

I just rewatched better off alone part 2 and I noticed something. Coach Armstrong had just noticed that he car had been keyed after he got out of the car. He car was keyed the day before. Even if he didn’t get home until late that night, wouldn’t he have noticed his car when he came outside of his house (before driving it to school)? That was just something that I noticed.

oh my god, i just noticed something! ok, so if you watch closely on the promo for next week, at about 9 seconds, you see sav getting into the “floor-it” truck (thats what i’ve decided to call it, ok?), and the front doors on both sides are open. AND YOU SEE SOMEONE IN THE SHOTGUN SEAT! well, we all know from the “floor-it” scene that adam and bianca are in the back . . . and looking closely at the promo the person riding shotgun kinda looks like . . . ELI?

Number One, I totally agree with Elaina. WHAT HAPPENED TO DARCY!? I mean… I get if she can’t come back on the show because of 90210 and other stuff she has going on but you think they’d at least mention her. Even if they were saying that she decided to stay in Kenya, or go to college, or if something happened to her. I feel like the writers made a very bad mistake by never mentioning her again because they made it seem as though she never existed and Clare is the only child in that family. Plus, what about Peter? I know he said he stopped talking to her… but you think he would at least know what she’s doing or something.
Anyway, back to the blog. I totally agree with everything Kary wrote. For starters, I think the plot in 99 Problems that dealt with Riley and Drew would have been much stronger if Drew’s mother never got involved. If she never would have said anything, I don’t think Riley would have confessed and they could’ve used that down the line for another plot. However, because his mom did get involved, it’s like the spot was handed to him and he barely had to work at it.
I really liked the KC part. Of course there was one thing I didn’t like and that would be Jenna. Like I have said in previous posts… the character of Jenna was tolerable before she had KC. Now she just seems so jealous 24/7. If she finds KC even glancing at another girl, she turns into a jealous freak. I don’t see the relationship as being a very strong one and I have a feeling it will crumble very soon.
Alli was also one of my favorite characters but it seems like every season I have a new favorite at Degrassi. Kary said it perfectly. This season Alli just seems like she wants nothing to do with friends or family or anything but being popular. Tbh I think if Dave was popular she would be going after him instead of Drew. It just bugs me how everything she has done so far was to gain popularity: The list, powersquad, dance crew, Drew, etc.
One thing that really caught my eye in the blog was that everybody hated Clare when she came on the show. Clare was personally one of my favorite new people. I thought it was cool how she stayed true to herself even though people thought she was weird for it. I mean… yeah she changed her clothes and got a bit of an attitude but she was still the same Clare. I think she is still that same Clare but I love how Eli is encouraging her to be more outgoing and boosting her confidence level. Clare is now definitely my favorite character on the show as of right now and I can’t wait to see how the Clare/Eli relationshipo progresses.
The last thing I need to say(yes, I know this is already long enough. Sorry.) is that I am excited to see the new Adam character. However, I think everyone is excited about the idea of the character and not so much the new character. We haven’t met Adam yet so we can’t really tell if it will be an annoying character or one of our favorites but we are all really just excited that Degrassi is trying something new with this different type of character. Either way… I can’t wait for next week:D

Just wanted to comment that Darcy has, in fact, not been treated as if she didn’t exist by any means. Granted, she’s not being referred to constantly, or even close,but she was mentioned in 99 problems part 1 (if I remember correctly) by Alli. Alli wore Darcy’s power squad uniform into the try-out, and when asked where she’d gotten it she said that her friend Clare was Darcy’s little sister. :) Just wanted the record straight. lol.

i think something terrible needs to happen to alli to bring her back down to earth. like when paige got raped, she became a bit less of a jerk, and spinner being behind getting jimmy shot made spin a much better person.
and what annoys me most about alli is that she reminds me of manny. she’s got that attitude of “i dont want to be cute; i want to be HOT.” and then goes and dates up and has sex pretty young. but the big difference is that alli seems really naive. manny seemed like she knew what she was doing, and she was secure in her sluttiness, and she continued to be a friend to emma, and . . . idk, i always really liked her, despite her relative sluttiness. but alli is just trying to be popular and she always just comes off as an idiot to me. she thinks that if she has a boyfriend, she’ll be popular, and that if she’s on the power squad she’ll be popular, when thats not the case. manny was never that stupid. idk, manny just seemed ready for all that she was doing, and alli gives off the vibe of a stupid kid in way over her head.

Well if you watched the one episode where KC Fitz and Bianca were in the car and they were kind of wasted and when Jenna walks up to them Bianca says Look here comes Barbie or whatever;; and then Jenna calls Bianca a looser,, thats kinda my guess on why they might cat fight but im kinda rooting gor Jenna… For some reason I dont really like Bianca because she is like Alex and I never really liked Alex.. and Jenna she was just so caring this season towards KC (;

so someone mentioned this earlier and I think it deserves to be talked about more, this being the strange similarity between eli/clare and kc/clare. These relationships (well, hopefully soon to be relationship with eli and clare) both started off for the most part, exactly the same. Clare is forced to be more outgoing and to accept the fact that she does care what people think about her and through this transition, she falls for the bad boy. Though Eli and KC are very different characters, they both push Clare and I think that its great. Clare is an amazing character but sometimes she gets pushed under the rug and these guys are what helps her make a name for herself. I do think that Eclare will survive way longer than KC and and her did, mainly because Eli does not seem like the kind of the guy that would drop Clare for some blonde bimbo. He is already emotionally connected with her and I think the connections they will make will certainly rival and hopefully surpass that of KC and Clare

48 Episodes mean we don’t know how often everyone will show up. But Wesley’s social circle seems a bit wider than Fitz, Owen, and Zane.
Wesley currently works as friend to about six characters (Everyone in his class seems to be his friend in some way). Fitz is only friends with Bianca, and as an antagonist he might not be the longest lived character. Zane is only connected to Riley. And Owen seems to be the embodiment of homophobic jock giving him no connection outside of the football team right now. He’s also an antagonist, meaning he’s ALSO not exactly a character they want us attaching to.

Hi Elaina here again. I know they mentioned Darcy with the cheer uniform but I meant more with her family like they haven’t mentioned her too much. Also I heard somewhere the lock down happens at the dance and someone gets arrested I just pray its not anyone we love dearly already! I love Clare and Eli they are both my favorite characters, they seem to be comfortable in their skin and they don’t strive to be something they aren’t, and like you said before Clare is becoming more independent which is awesome and about couples being emotionally attracted to each other not just physically, the last couple was Holly J and Spinner, even though nothing ever happened, Holly J liked him because he accepted her for who she really was.

i agree that in the promo for next week it looks like Eli in the front seat, but if he was going to the concert wouldn’t he drive there in his own car?
and another thing, alli’s been pissing me off this season; she’s so desperate. but don’t get me wrong, i like her but so far she’s just been annoying. i’ve been wondering, the whole arranged wedding thing was a big deal in Sav’s storyline, so i wonder if Alli’s gonna go through it too?

There’s a VERY interesting theory floating around TV.com that Jenna is pregnant…with PETER’S child. I initially shrugged it off as insane, but when you think about it…
1. Peter is in the opening credits, this season. Spinner was in the credits in seasons 8-9 because of his involvement with Jane/Studz. Emma/Manny/Liberty were in the season 8 opening because of their university storylines (though I really don’t think that Emma/Manny had any reason to be in season 9’s opening credits). With Studz gone, and Ms. Hatzilakos gone, Peter MUST have a larger role this season than being the new “Dot Guy”.
2. Peter was single for basically the entirety of season 9. What were the writers waiting to use him for?
3. Peter and Jenna were the romantic leads in Space Awakening. They likely spent a lot of time together during rehearsals.
4. Peter had no allegiances left at Degrassi, so if anyone found out about the two of them hooking up, he had nothing to lose.
5. Why was Jenna so eager to apply for a job at The Dot in DTM? Why not Clare, or Alli?
I must admit, there is some logic to this theory! I’m VERY interested in finding out about Jenna, now!

I’m sure Peter will be making some appearance in someone’s plot. I’m not sure about the Jenna pregnant thing, it lacks set-up. However he does have two people he can play best friend to (Riley and Sav), he’s also connected to two important locations (The Dot and Above the Dot). Above the Dot means he’ll hopefully see some time when the Geek Squad start their band.
I’d be interested to see Peter/Fiona happen. But that might just be me.

im really hoping that you’re kidding, because as far as i can figure, these points are exactly what LED to the rumor. the make it vaguely plausible, which is why the rumor started. but they’re not enough to actually base a storyline on. and if that actually happened, i might have to stalk the writers to throw tomatoes at them, because it just seems wayyyy to unlikely.

According to Shane Kippel AKA Spin’s twitter, Peter’s days are numbered. He’s in the credits, but can easily be cut out much like JT was after his death. Maybe the death is HIS….I mean he isn’t going to be there much longer. Now how that regards to the school’s lockdown, I have no clue, but I know that Peter has to have some sort of big story coming up or at least a farewell since they didn’t give him the Toby treatment (not being in the credits but still on the show) also Leia is leaving, but I think Peter dying would be more shocking, affect more ppl, and make a better story overall. I’d rather him go out with a bang instead of just disappearing. The actor is too decent for that. Hell even Toby got to graduate and host Robot Wars.

I want Riley to come out!!! at the end of 99 Problems pt2 are he and Zane on speaking terms? or are they still mad at each other??? Can’t wait to see more of the Riley-Zane story line

Ever since I saw the carnival promo, I’ve thought the lockdown would be caused by Leia commiting suicide because of Fritz’s bullying. It seems less likely because we haven’t seen Leia at all and we’ve barely seen Fritz. But that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it. :)

This new season is kicking ass, but for me, the main reason why I’m tuning in(other then the hot new character Drew) is because of Clare and Eli! They are now officially my favorite couple on Degrassi(even though they AREN’T official yet…they better be though,). I use to totally support Clare and KC(and I STILL think Jenna is a slut for stealing him) but now it seems like Eli is a WAY better match for her. They are so ADORABLE! Their moments are pure gold! And Clare’s character has evolved more and become more interesting. Not to mention Eli’s character kicks ass as well! And I so agree with the user “Nina” who’s comment was featured in the post: it DOES seem like they are connecting on more then mere physical attraction. Friendship is always a good way to start a relationship and I hope that they not only get together soon, but that they STAY together…I know that most Degrassi couples fall apart so that it reflects the sometimes fickle structure of high school relationships, but it would be a nice breath of fresh air to see them weather the storm of dramatic breakups and other superficial hookups and have a solid couple on the show.
