We’re officially in the home stretch before Degrassi returns, so I’d like to think they’ll be putting out a newer promo every week now (be on your guard those with TeenNick and MuchMusic). There’s a few things going on in the Degrassi world right now and I’ll try to do some more Q & A below.
YOU COULD BE IN A DEGRASSI PROMO
Ology.com is hosting a Degrassi contest where they’re going to create a promo-like video, and you can be in the video with the Degrassi cast. Here are the first couple of steps:
1) Get a camera. Any way you can. Legally, of course.
2) Record yourself/your friends/your talking dog saying Clare’s line from the Season 11 promo:
“DID YOU ERASE ME FROM YOUR MEMORY?! DID YOU EVER LOVE ME AT ALL?!”
Your clip needs to be 10 seconds or less. Then you’ll send the video clip to Ology. CLICK HERE TO READ THE OFFICIAL RULES AND TO FIND OUT HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR VIDEO.

Degrassi Fundraiser for Haiti Trip
Members of the Degrassi cast are traveling to Haiti this summer with Free The Children to volunteer in places that are still suffering because of last year’s disastrous earthquake. They’re trying to raise money for two new classrooms and a mobile health clinic. You can CLICK HERE to donate. They give you the option of donating to Degrassi in general, or you could donate to your favorite cast member’s fund. Either way, all of the money goes toward the same goal.

Cassie Steele Cast in Highland Gardens
This wouldn’t really be news if it weren’t for the fact that they were casting her as Manny Santos. Highland Gardens is a new series that is being produced by Epitome. I’m not gonna assume like the rest of the fandom that it’s a straight up spinoff, where just because Manny’s listed in one episode it means they’re gonna plop a bunch of old Degrassi alums into a new series. And even with Manny or any other former Degrassi character in the mix, the premise of this show still sounds incredibly boring…I’m talking “Gigantic” boring.

On the opening credits they did not show Sadie, is she not going to be on this season 11 they show Marisol, she is not that important to the show?

Marisol will be important this season at least for a little while, seeing as she’s going to be in a love affair with KC. One thing I’ve noticed is that people have severely overblown Sadie’s importance to the show. People just assumed that just because Alexx Benoit 1) tweets and tumbles furiously 2) she’s BFF’s with Spencer and 3) her online presence in the Degrassi community was established long before she ever appeared on the show, that she is/was supposed to play some huge role on the show.
But in reality, Sadie barely had more screentime in Season 10 than Marisol.

Kary, I was just wondering. Who are your top ten characters? I thought the couples you chose were great, since they;re my faves too. I was interested to see whatt your favorite characters were as well.

Ask me that question again after Degrassi’s series finale. Putting together an all-time fave couple list is easier because it’s more black and white; you either care about a couple or you don’t.
But a top-ten character list is much harder, especially when trying to factor in characters that are still on the show. Most characters are ridiculously fluid if you follow them over several seasons, and my opinions of them change as well (ex: I loved Season 8 Alli, but her character declined in Seasons 9 and 10. I hated Season 7 & 8 Holly J, but grew to love her in Season 9 and most of Season 10…she declined heavily at the end of Season 10 though.).

I remember when I first heard about Instant Star, the whole premise of it sounded cheesy and lame as hell (teen wins music talent show, struggles with new found fame, yada yada), but I gave it a chance, and it became one of my favorite shows, and I was sad to see it go. I’d like to think that since Stephen’s behind this new show too, it’ll put out engaging story lines as well.
Really though, I’m just excited to see Manny again. She’s one of my favorite Degrassi characters of all time.

I think it’s kind of creative that they’re including Manny Santos in this Highland Gardens show. However, after that episode I probably wouldn’t watch any others.

Tomorrow is Saturday and sounds like a good day to release a promo. If not, then a promo will probably be released on the 4th, since the 4th is 2 weeks away from the premiere. And from there on out, we can expect the small little 15-20 second promos (remember the “Seduction” promo last year with Alli/Drew, Clare/Eli/Adam and Fiona/Bobby)

1) I don’t know where people keep getting the idea that Marisol isn’t an important character and why they keep comparing her to Hazel and Chantay. She was put in the opening right away not seasons later. We haven’t even seen her as a regular yet lol. Don’t assume she’s going to be a sidekick just because she’s black like Chantay. Also, from the little we’ve seen of Sadie I would love for her to be on the show more. Hopefully she just couldn’t make the theme filming day lol.
2) I don’t think we need any more promos! I love them, and they get me more anxious and excited for the season but how much of an episode do we really need to see before the episode airs? It’s not like them showing less promos is gonna make people stop watching anyway haha. Actually, less promos should just make people more anxious and interested.
3) Although Highland Gardens does sound uninterested I would still check it out if they brought Degrassi Alumni back!

If Teennick is doing the Get Ready For Degrassi: Now Or Never marathon starting saturday 7/9 instead of the Every Degrassi Ever marathon, then why havent we seen any promos for it yet?

Because Teennick’s probably busy whoring out Now or Never in general, and the Concert series still.
though a spot for a marathon would be nice, a welcome change from that awkward Freaks and Geeks/Undeclared commercial. (Though both are great shows, dont get me wrong, that commercial is annoying)

It’s sort of like the Every Degrassi Ever Marathon. Only instead of all the episodes they show the recent seasons with the new generation. Seasons 8-10. Since seasons 1-6 and most of 7 don’t apply to this generation.

I think that Sadie will have a minor role in Now Or Never, and then she’ll become a maain character later in the season, like they did with Owen and Zane.

A bit late here, but Highland Gardens was apparently supposed to take place in the 1970s era, so I’m not quite sure how Manny is going to fit in. Unless, of course, the premise of the show has been changed, or the IMDB info is incorrect.
The series was also surprisingly supposed to be more racy, but was changed when it was picked up by CTV. I probably would have been more excited if it aired on something like Showtime and would attract a more mature audience.
