It hurts to hear about the passing of music legend Prince at the young age of 57.  His music played a pretty large role in my childhood; my dad had a pretty large record collection, but I could always count on him to play some Prince when he fired up his record player.

Prince’s legacy has spanned far and wide, with references to his work forever a part of Degrassi’s history. So many of the TNG seasons’ episode titles were named after 80’s songs, including two of Prince’s biggest hits: When Doves Cry and U Got The Look.

When Doves Cry (Season 2, Episodes 1 & 2)

Craig Manning, the most-prominent male character of his generation, burst onto the scene in When Doves Cry and never looked back. A harrowing tale about an abusive father, Craig’s storyline is taken from theme of a strained relationship between a father and son in the movie Purple Rain (When Doves Cry was written for the movie).

U Got The Look (Season 3, Episode 3)

The lyrics are pretty straightforward on this one:

You’ve got the look (You’ve got the hook)
You sho’nuf do be cookin’ in my book
Your face is jammin’
Your body’s heck-a-slammin’

The crazy part is that both the events of When Doves Cry and U Got The Look were referenced on Craig’s album in the Season 7 episode It’s Tricky:

yyyy

Bruised, Not Broken (When Doves Cry) and Thong Girl, Wrong Girl (U Got The Look)

Prince might be gone, but he’ll never be forgotten.
