Degrassi: Next Class makes its debut in Canada tonight at 9pm on F2N! I haven’t thought much about the plots because I’d rather not theorize them to death, but I know there’s some pretty exciting things to look forward to in this block. Just a couple of things I’m excited to see:
*The Hollingsworths. This family is a hot mess, and they’re going to spiral even deeper out of control in Next Class. They’ve been dealing with Miles’ personal issues for two seasons now, so despite how bad he’s suffering, people should be happy they haven’t regressed his character to the mean yet. All I have to say about my daughter Frankie is that seeing hurt hurt breaks. Also, it’ll be really interesting watching the fandom react to Hunter’s upcoming behavior, which will be based off events of a real-life situation. Will he even attempt to change or show remorse? Is it possible to forgive him down the road for his fuckboy behavior, or do we hold it against him for forever?
*Shiny. Let’s be clear, I’m not interested in getting into heated ship wars or anything like that; I’m pretty neutral on an overwhelming majority of Degrassi’s ships. However, I do tend to find a very special place in my heart for some couples, and Shay and Tiny have immediately entered that space.
*Grace. She has an illness for which there is no cure. She knows this, but if people find out they’ll treat her differently. There are various routes to take here and I’m only thinking down the road, but *if* Degrassi were to go down a path where we witness her declining health and inevitable death, this could be one of the rawest, most-heartbreaking storylines this show has ever told.

F2N will air a new episode every weekday, with the season 1 finale on January 15. Unfortunately for non-Canadian fans, you’ll have to wait until the 15th when the show hits Netflix. As far as my reviews go, I’m in no rush to do them and I won’t be reviewing the episodes on F2N’s broadcast schedule. If I have the ability to do so before the 15th I’ll start churning out reviews every other day or two.
However, I WILL be posting any spoilers (episode stills/promos/etc) that may come about from F2N over these next two weeks…so if you’re trying to avoid knowing anything about the episodes before they’re posted on Netflix you have been warned. By the way….
F2N’s new website is live!
Their site is geoblocked, so American fans won’t be able to freely access it. The site currently has character descriptions which you can check out below…for the other descriptions and episode still you can find them here.

Kary this was the best premiere since season 11’s Boom Boom Pow. Every plot was on point, the music was outstanding, the writing is so much edgier and instead of alluding to sex and contraband they actually discuss it frankly. Tristan actually got the A plot, which turned out for the best because his story was amazing. And the cliffhanger at the end was the cherry on top. I don’t know if you’ve seen it yet but it’s amazing.

I just saw the episode and I really enjoyed it. They definitely did a great job at giving us a glimpse at most, if not all characters, and what they’re generally about. They gave enough information through the writing where I can see how they could pull in an audience that might not have seen any of the previous seasons of Degrassi, which is great because I worried if they could pull it off without feeling like they were either constantly trying to catch us up or not giving enough information to the new viewer.
Maya’s plot was just kind of there for me, but I didn’t think it was bad or anything. Shay’s plot seemed true to high school and the social media world we’re in now. And Lola was great as always in a support role, as well as Frankie. Miles/Tristan’s plot was very well done. Miles showed glimpses of his father, which I think is kind of an amazing thing they’re doing since his family mentioned awhile back how him and his father are just alike, and we definitely saw more of it here. We saw Tristan be his usual gullible self, but at the same time, we saw some growth, thanks to Zoe in support. Overall, very strong, solid premiere!
