Degrassi attends the 2014 Emmys. (l-r: Iain Christiansen, Luke Bilyk, Ana Golja, Munro Chambers, Melinda Shankar, Ricardo Hoyos)

Degrassi might be leaving the Nickelodeon family after this summer, but they aren’t going quietly!  Nominations for the 67th Emmy Awards were revealed today, and Degrassi is nominated for “Outstanding Children’s Program.”  This is the fourth time in five years Degrassi has been nominated for an Emmy (2011, 2012, 2014, 2015), and Degrassi is one of only two shows representing Nickelodeon this year.

As proud and excited as I am for the Degrassi team’s nomination, I also feel frustrated because the odds are once again stacked against Degrassi in the Children’s category.  This category is always represented by shows from Nick, Disney and HBO; this year’s other nominees include “Dog With A Blog,” “Girl Meets World,” “Nick News with Linda Ellerbee: Coming Out,” and the HBO documentary, “Alan Alda and the Actor Within You: A YoungArts Masterclass.”

I know everyone’s going to believe Girl Meets World is a lock to win this year, but it’s an understatement to say that HBO documentaries and Nick News have flat out dominated this category since the early 2000s.  Here’s to Degrassi pulling off an upset!

The 67th Emmys will air Sunday, September 20th, on FOX.  Degrassi should be attending the Creative Arts Emmys, which covers the technical awards and the awards that won’t fit in the main Emmys broadcast.  The Creative Arts Emmys are on September 12th, and will air Saturday, September 19th on FXX.  Below are images from Degrassi’s trip to the Emmys ceremony last year:

  1. Does this mean it’s nominated for the end of season 13 or the first half of season 14? I believe last year it was nominated for Zoe’s sexual assault, so Kary do you know which storyline its nominated for this year?

In season 10 it was nominated for My Body Is A Cage
In season 11 it was nominated for Extraordinary Machine
In season 13 it was nominated for Unbelievable
So yeah Kary if you know or have a hunch for which episode its nominated for that’d be great to know :)

  2. I’m pretty sure it was for Firestarter. The Hollingsworth kid’s storyline standing united against their dad is pretty award winning stuff
