Kary's Degrassi Blog 
Kary, I thought you agreed that degrassi tends to suck when it is not school related. This is 8 (?) episodes of boring relationship dribble minus of course the cancer storyline. I really hope it gets better, I’m tired of every episode being about the same small number of people.

I’m not sure if it’s being away from the school for extended periods so much as the fragmented cast. The big hiccup after the initial two Graduations was that there was a lot of cast that couldn’t interact directly with the rest of the cast. (Paige, Ellie, Marco in S6-7. Emma, Manny, Liberty, Kelly in Season 8.) “Dot Guy” (Spin and Peter) while off focus, was still primarily interacting within the larger group of the school.
The issue with the Summer block is that the four plots don’t have even cast segments:
Clare Plot: Clare, Eli, CAMP DEGRASSI PEEPS (Adam, Imogen, Drew).
Adam/Imogen Plot: Adam, Imogen, Becky, Drew, Dallas.
Tenners Plot: Maya, Tristan, Miles, Zoe, Chewey.
Alli Plot: Alli, Jenna, Connor.
The issue with the last group is it has been ENTIRELY ON ALLI to pull that plot along. The other three groups are balanced and working pretty well. Clare’s plot has the lowest active cast, but it’s also the heavy issue plot of the block. Alli’s is the weakest of the four overall, and unless it shifts gears is mostly filler.

I actually like that we get to see a smaller cast simply because we get to see them more often.

yeah we barely have any characters right now. clare, alli, jenna, connor, drew, imogen, dallas, adam, becky, maya, tristan, zoe, miles, chewy, and only maya, clare, tristan, alli and adam are getting direct plots about them. plus most of the summer has been relationship drama. BUT i do have strong hope because when the school year starts im sure there is going to be issues again, and we will focus on more characters as we go on. honestly, if they dropped dave and luke then ill be smh. theres no reason and dave is an outstanding character/actor. they need to give becky some issues, jenna and connor should deal with something big together, imogen needs more issues, tristan needs a frieken a plot because hes amazing, dallas needs a serious plot with rocky, and they need to cover the obviously forshadowed miles abuse storyline and this season will be amazing

i really hope maya and miles dont get together and just become friends for now. her and zig need to date for a while. its innevitable that her and miles will be together by the end of the season but she needs to be with zig first

Im really tired of these Alli plots. There needs to be focus on Drew and his situation with Bianca. There also needs to be more focus on plots with Dallas and Becky and their own issues.
I also hope that they didnt take out dave and luke but if they did they need to have a phenomenal substitute.

They need to put a stop to this Alli/Leo nonsense ASAP. It’s rediefining pointless week in and week out and has gone way beyond the other boring relationships on this show between a man character in the Degrassi universe. Sav/Keke was lame but it was fine because it was oer after one episode. Dr. Chris/Anya were bad and while they got way too much airtime, it was slightly more bearable because it was stretched out, as opposed to week after week like we’re seeing here. The only couple I can think of that was as bad was Kelly/Emma, and it’s saying something that we’ve gotten to that point. Tristian/Maya/Miles is intriguing, but again, we’re suffering from major burnout from seeing them every week. It reminds me of Eclare/Cake during Now or Never where any interest you had was diminished by the over-emphasis they got in terms of airtime. I’m not asking for there to be such a great deal of characters where it becomes a situation where characters are ignored for long stretches of time and suddenly get a plot before disappearing again (Ziley in Season 10/11, Marco in Season 7), but I feel like there needs to be a spread whereby we don’t see the same storylines week in/week out…which, this block, has been Clare, Alli/Leo, and Tristain/Maya/Miles drama 95% of the time.

I agree with everything you said. For me, the Eclare/Cake and Dr. Chris/Anya storylines were stretched out in Season 11 made the episodes so dull it kind of ruined some of the potential the season had. I wanted to see more of Imogen, Katie, and Jake’s backstory, but they cut out potential storylines for them and replaced it with those romance plots. I have no idea where Degrassi writers get the idea that focusing on romance plots that are recycled every time they try to create another random romance plot would sustain viewer interest after such a good Season 12 instead of introducing real issues following Cam’s storyline (which I think they ran out of ideas for even though there is a lot more people and issues out there to represent).

Seriously with the Alli plot again???? They took away K.C. and left us with this bull? Not cool, writers! Alli has so much potential and they keep dumbing her character down with these lame ass relationship plots. This summer block of episodes is honestly the worst I have seen come from Degrassi since the fiasco that was Season 8. I’d almost take back having Mia around again if it meant they’d stop with these damn Alli plots (and that’s saying something).
I will always watch Degrassi, but I have never experienced watching a new episode and only watching it as a background to something else I am doing at the time. The only plot that really gets my attention is Clare’s. I’m getting really tired of this. I know the writers can come up with better shit than this. If not then maybe it’s time to start refocusing on other characters with much more potential. Like Dallas with his kid or Zig’s family’s poverty issue. I was on board for the summer block, because I know summer tends to revolve around relationships and such, but this is just getting to be way too much. 13 seasons and this is the best they can do?
Honestly, I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am feeling pretty let down after the amazing end to Season 12. Of course I am going to keep watching the show. I love Degrassi, but this Summer block is boring and a flat out mess (save Clare’s plot).

I have a weird feeling that Alli & Leo relationship will go overboard and both will be really hurt when the reality that Alli is going back to TO. I doubt it will last.
I have a very bad feeling something horrible will happen between Adam & Imogen. I think both will be emotionally hurt but one will be so overwhelmed by guilt. Hopefully no one dies.
As for the Tenner’s I think Maya & Miles really do like each other but nothing will happen.
The will find Tristan and all make a truce. As for Zoe, who knows.. I think Zoe is a very lonely girl who is mean because thats all she knows to survive.
I think Jonnor will be ok, I think they will talk and work things out and take baby steps.. I think Connor really does care for Jenna. It will take a lot longer for him in the intimacy department. Its very common with Aspergers.
Future~ I have a feeling that Eclare will break up in 13A or the beginning of 13B. I believe it has as to do with this dark plot twist thats coming up. As for Drianca I think they will survive the long haul for now. Sorry fans, Drew & Bianca have a much stronger bond and they communicate 100% better than Eli & Clare when things get tough. No hate please.

Eclare is awesome! I’m kinda sad bcuz the last episode n the new 1 have no Eclare! The Adam/Becky/imogen plot is kinda interesting! I like the Tenners plot! I don’t really care 4 Alli n Leo’s plot!
