He has given signs to be one I think : crying, rejects maya’s kiss, team that asks all time why he doesn’t have a girlfriend (< well the last one is just for the storyline you know) . I really do not think Cam is gay or bisexual, and it baffles me that so many people are going along with that prediction. You guys are missing the point of Cam’s storyline entirely.
That’s a problem society has today; if a good-looking guy has never kissed a girl, is a virgin, or has never had a girlfriend, he’s automatically suspected of being gay. This was even epicted IN the episode. It would completely contradict the purpose of Cam’s storyline if he actually turned out to be gay.
Also, I would more expect a heterosexual male to be shy around girls than a homosexual male.

I think if Cam was a separate character, not being associated with the hockey team and just a regular student, then your theory would make sense. But in this case, it doesn’t.
The big picture here is homophobia. You think they would take a central figure like Cam and not use him to promote this topic? The hockey community, especially in Toronto, is going to great lengths to dispel homophobia from sports. Cam is the perfect way to unite the school, learning to overcome these obstacles and achieve his goals both on and off the ice.
This is a story very unique to the Toronto Maple Leafs and Brian Burke’s family. And Dylan is a big fan of the Leafs and I know that if I were him, it would be the role of a lifetime.

Did you forget that Dylan (Marco’s BF) was an openly gay hockey player? And why would Degrassi be promoting the NHL’s agenda? And how would this be any different than what Riley went through playing football? The storyline would be the same, except it’s just hockey. The big picture is conflict and how do we deal with people who are not on the same page as us. LGBT issues are things that people have very different, but strong and clear views on and that people but heads with frequently so it’s only natural that it is a component of this block. There are also so many other issues impacting the LGBT community that Degrassi can delve into besides another “coming-out in an overly macho environment.” Degrassi doesn’t need to perpetuate the stereotype that if a guy isn’t a sexist douche, he must be gay, either. And would it really be bad if Cam was indeed straight? I think it would be a better storyline and outcome then another closeted jock story line that has been done to death in the mainstream media, and this is coming from someone who’s gay.

I seriously doubt Degrassi would take that route a second time. They just had Riley show that sports stars can be gay too. Using Cam to re-prove this doesn’t make any sense. Sorry I think III has got it right.

You guys just aren’t putting the pieces together. I can’t help you with that. It seems pretty clear to me why the hockey team was created. And Riley’s storyline would suck compared to this one, since Cam’s plot is multi-dimensional. The “You Can Play” program was not in effect during Riley’s time on the show. And I find it to be quite a coincidence that Dylan Everett was in a 2006 film about a gay hockey player for the Leafs, and the team was very approving of it.
And BTW, Dylan has already somewhat given away that Cam plays an important role in Romeo and Jules. So there!

HockeyNut, I really enjoy your passion for this subject, but the previous commenter is right. Degrassi actually already had a gay hoceky player. They might do it again, but the hockey team was not created just to showcase the fact that there are gay hockey players. Hockey is the biggest sport in our country( I’m Canadian), and it’s about time they have a hockey team after we’ve had to deal with the football nonsense. We have football teams but they are not nearly as big as hockey.

He can be involved in the various plots without being Gay, there are a few avenues of this.
1. “When do you stand up and tell your family off?” – We laid the foundation with both of Cam’s plots thus far. That he sides with the guys because they are his family away from home, BUT… eventually he has to break from them because they are bad for him. So far he hasn’t stood up to them, just moved away from them. If he befriends Tristan and Maya, and they bully Tristan, he can’t sit in the sidelines forever.
2. “Dave quits the play.” – Dave’s ability to play Romeo was predicated on his love for Alli, he thought of her to get through the scenes. He’s… no longer with her, I imagine Eli will drop him from the play and need a new leading man. Cam can take the role, as favor to Tristan or Maya, and get ridiculed by the Hockey Team.
3. “Cam is assumed Gay.” – Cam might be asexual, or just not ready for a relationship. The groundwork of the team using gay as a slur for anyone who isn’t trying to hit up every foxy lady in the school is there, Straight people are often the target of gay bashing because there isn’t a tattoo that says what your orientation is, which is another new direction to go in. Cam’s being even supportive of the play would put him at odds with the team.
4. “Cam is Asexual.” Pretty much Plot 3, just with Cam being a different avenue away from heteronomative.
HockeyNut you’re not really outside the box on this, this issue isn’t that simple and it won’t be solved with such a simplistic answer.

I don´t think that Cam will take the role of Romeo over of Dave, Cause in the ´Bite your tongue´ promo you´ve seen Adam at the drama club part, So i think if Dave´s gonna give up his role as romeo, that Adam would do it.

the biggest thing that irks me is that cam said “we will never be friends” and it was such a big moment, great all around, then maya’s all sit here cam and they are acting like that conversation never took place. Like BIG HUGE HOLE degrassi writers. I’m used to the dropped storylines, missing plots, and holes, but it would just be nice if the writers TRY a little harder.
The season is pretty good so far (excluding Jake and a little bit of fiona) but holes like this drive me nuts sometimes.

It’s not really a hole in the plot line at all. At the end of that scene Maya tells Tristan “Maybe he will come around”. Maya and Tristan both know it was wrong for Tristan to pretend to be Maya on facerange. Maya knows he doesn’t have his family or his friends there, and is trying to be a friend to him.

I hope Drew graduates. Not only would he be overstaying his welcome if he stayed on for another school year, but once, just once, it would be nice to see a graduation where every main character in grade 12 actually graduates.

Agreed with Nina, I will honestly be shocked if the writers are bold enough to have every senior graduate this year. It’s just, there are TWELVE (including Alli) ! There’ll be, what, 13 kids left on the show? Regardless a fair amount of newbies is inevitable, but they can’t just not take advantage of this. That said, I can only see them keeping 2 or 3. Based on what’s happening in the show at this point – I’d say Drew, Owen, Dallas and Imogen have the greatest chances of staying behind.

knew there was something creepy going on with Clare’s boss…hopefully they’ll handle it right and focus on the seriousness of workplace harassment AND underage sexual abuse (if it gets that far) instead of like, Eli being jealous or something. It could turn out to be a very good, enlightening story, or a misguided attempt at EClare drama. We’ll see…

Honestly, despite some ill informed or not thought out comments made by some of the kids on here, I LOVE this new season 12 of Degrassi. The cinematography is beautiful, the storylines are more or less engaging, and the characters are all pretty interesting. I’m excited to see how this season progresses.

Please people enough with the “Cam is gay” stuff. There is nothing wrong with being shy and sensitive. I weep for my generation when I say that if a man isn’t down and dirty, tough, and collected that he has to be gay. That would make many men gay by default. Campbell Saunders is just a homesick kid who wants to make friends and he is just growing up. That’s what kids do, and they do it at their own pace. Unfortunately, it’s hard for us to wrap our minds around that if we’ve never had to live far from home for months or are bombarded by homophobic people in our schools and workplaces who pressure us to act a certain way. Campbell is becoming one of my favorite characters, and he is just figuring things out. That’s what our teenage years are all about: finding who we are and maturing and growing up into that.

Will the Hockey team with the same players still excist in the next Season of Degrassi? Because some players are far away from home like Campbell and Dallas, but they have a mainrole in Degrassi. I hope they’ll still be there in the next season !! (sorry for my english, I’m dutch ^^)

If you wanna get technical, Kelly was also only around for one season. And Zane was only credited as a main character for halves of main seasons. But ahh who cares? These characters are already much better developed and interesting than Damien, Kelly, or Zane so I hope they stick around.

Does anyone think that degrassi would consider, idk, maybe doing something like they did back after Paige, Ellie, and Marco graduated? And following them to college? Do you think degrassi would consider doing something like that so that we didn’t have to let all our seniors go? I can’t picture degrassi without Drew or Eli or Bianca or any of the other seniors:( I mean don’t get me wrong, I am loving the new characters, but it feels like some of them haven’t even been on that long!

Kary, I’ve gotta take a time out to give you props (as I forgot to the other day). I think you run the best Degrassi site on the web, bar none. You take really good care of the site and always post interesting materials and extras for the fans. You are one of the fairest and most honest reviewers I have ever read (and I go back to s1 of TNG). I love how well spoken you are and how I know you’ll always have an argument behind something instead of unfounded statements. It’s such a miracle for this show to find well-written, reasonable analysis, so I really appreciate it. And I love that you allow people to post different opinions and not just slam down the ban-hammer on them!

Becky scares me. In the episode tonight: Warning spoilers if you haven’t seen “Closer to Free” part 1 yet

When Jenna goes to Becky and Luke’s house, the youth group their gave me the creeps, as did Becky. It had a cult type vibe. Nothing against Christians, and not saying Christianity is a cult. Just that particular scene was just plain weird and freaky.
