Congratulations to Epitome Pictures, who is celebrating the filming of Degrassi’s 300th today.

Though they’re filming the 300th episode now, it won’t be airing until sometime after Degrassi: Showdown is finished.  Bumping up the episode count to 40+ episodes has expedited this milestone, but man is it impressive how increasing the number of episodes has improved the shows ratings from what they were going into Season 10.

So how long will Degrassi continue to make episodes?  Who knows…The Stohn & Co. have no plans on stopping anytime soon.  A couple of months ago we were getting a little concerned about Degrassi’s longevity because the show’s ratings on TeenNick during “New Beginnings” were hitting lows they haven’t seen in quite a while.  But is that sort of thing even relevant when it comes to whether or not production is renewed for another season? Or 2? Or 10?  Because at the end of the day Degrassi is still TeenNick’s highest-rated show, and it’s also MuchMusic’s #1 Canadian-produced series.

I honestly wouldn’t be shocked with the random cancellation of Degrassi out of nowhere. Things in the broadcast and ratings world are crazy and even the show you least expect to get the plug pulled, gets yanked. Even at that, Stohn and co would probably find a new Degrassi to make because Degrassi will never die as a brand XD

Congrats! Here’s to plenty of more episodes! Though Monday Night Raw is celebrating their 1,000th episode next month. Degrassi has a LONG way to go.

I wouldnt be surprised if Degrassi randomly ended after season 13 or 14.

As I’ve been mentioning throughout all of last season (both halves), I’m so disconnected with the show right now, I would not be upset when the show is eventually canceled. I don’t think it’s always wise to phase out some of the original core members of the cast, especially when they can easily find a recurring place for them in the Degrassiverse. I don’t have any loyalty one way or the other regarding anyone introduced from Season 10 on, including characters that I do like, such as Bianca, Eli and Adam. I just feel as though they have way too many characters on the canvas now, they don’t give enough time to flesh out the newbies. And when they do give them airtime, they shove them down your throat (Katie/Marisol), so you lose all interest from the start.

I actually think it would be wise to end this incarnation of Degrassi, since they can always start anew with a fresh perspective, digging deep into the rich history of the show. I still think it would have made a lot more sense to crossover Cassie Steele’s Manny to The LA Complex as a way to tie together both shows, so they can expand the Degrassiverse into new territories.

I totally agree with you. Idk how or if this incarnation will end (if it does.)
What I liked about the original next generation cast is that there were not that many regulars, and with that, there was constant interaction between each grade level (Sean & Jimmy, Manny & Paige, etc.)
The whole “When will Degrassi ever end?” thought really is mind-boggling. Who knows?
IMO, I felt like Degrassi: The Next Generation should’ve ended at the end of season 7 when all of the original cast graduated. I do enjoy watching the current Degrassi, but it honestly does feel overcrowded, especially after seeing the group promo picture. I mean, what the hell happened?! What are the Degrassi writers/producers/casting members thinking? What is the point of adding new characters if they’re gonna be insignificant after they’re done with their specific storyline in which they were put on the show for (i.e. the newest castmembers: Luke and Becky, Mike, and somewhat Cam are antogonistic characters.) I think that’s why I like Clare’s class a little better because they weren’t put on Degrassi to stir things up. They were average kids going to school. Also, we got the chance to see them grow. I believe that is one problem the Degrassi team needs to think of before casting actors/actresses.
Okay, that was my rant for tonight. Goodnight.

I agree that there are too many characters right now. The original cast only had 16-17 characters and even Hazel, Toby and Ashley ended up suffering in the long run when it came to development. Now there is 25 and the only characters I feel have a steady amount of development are Clare, Alli, Fiona, Drew and Eli. I hope once the seniors graduate they keep the cast at 16/17 people.
