Today E! Online posted the latest TeenNick promo for Degrassi: Showdown, which (following suit with the other promos) features the telenovela’s major plots: Katie vs Bianca, Eli vs Becky and the hockey team vs Tristan. The article also features a description of the Season 12 premiere:

In the first two episodes of the season, “Say It Right,” Parts One and Two, Drew (Luke Bilyk) relies on some liquid courage to finally end things with fresh-outta-rehab Katie (Chloe Rose) so he can reunite with his ex Bianca (Alicia Josipovic). While Drew and Bianca eventually end up together, they’re going to have to face the wrath of a super-bitter Katie. Hell hath no fury like the senior class president/recovering pill-popper scorned!

The Premiere was originally titled “Come As You Are,” so I’m not sure yet if it’s a complete episode title change or if TeenNick and Much have different ep titles (which is known to happen occasionally). Either way the premiere is at 10pm EST on Monday, July 16th. And if you haven’t heard yet, 10pm EST is the show’s new timeslot for the summer telenovela.

Well Clare hasn’t had sex (really liked that Jake was looking out for her best interest even though he wanted to have sex) and I’m not sure about Tori or Maya. After all, the main characters are only a few out of hundreds of students but I get your point. Katie’s character took a slow then drastic nosedive when she got with Drew. She was so refreshing and interesting (though her storyline of addiction is interesting since it’s prescription drugs). Sure, they had good moments and good development mostly for Drew’s gang storyline. I loved the idea of her and Bianca being friends but now with Drew (on top of Katie’s struggles) are dashing those dreams. I agree that they both shouldn’t give him the time of day, they deserve better guys.

And another fan favorite couple could possibly be getting back together! Could season 12 see the return of EClare? Yes, Clare (Aislinn Paul) wants to be with Eli (Munro Chambers), but worries that he doesn’t feel the same way (could the new student looking to steal his spotlight in the drama club have anything to do with it?).
Im actually hoping Eli will be finally done with Clare. Eli needs to move on

Um…can you say “WOW!” I am completely interested in this season! I cannot believe how excited I am for it seeing that I haven’t been excited like this for Degrassi since The Boiling Point. It looks excellent. And I definitely foresee a lot of drama and I am hoping that it does not revolve around relationships mostly. I think Becky is uber christian and with Eli being athiest this will be very interesting. SO FREAKIN’ EXCITED!

Did… Drew get sunburnt or something? I really hope they’re just playing up the love triangle in the promos because I know I’m not the only one who doesn’t want Drianca/Krew to be the focal point of the season.
I cannot wait to see Eli and Tristan interact. At this point, Eli is friends with the entire LGBT community, haha.
I welcome the return of Fi’s beautiful curly locks as well.
And they just won’t let Bhandurner be happy for more than one episode, will they?
Either Cam’s closeted and he’s lashing out or he’s a homophobic douche. Either way, I don’t want him with Maya.
One thing that no one seems to be talking about is how Jake factors into all this conflict. He’s such a chill guy that either makes out with the wrong girl or gets pulled into other people’s drama, so I wonder what’s getting him so mad that he’d pick a fight with someone.
I love the end of the promo. Only because Imogen’s just chilling and eating in the background like she gives no fucks, hahaha.

I’m excited that there actually seem to be storyline arcs this season, opposed to an onslaught of randomized relationship drama. The writers always seem most on-point when they have a central idea/story to structure the season around (the build-up and aftermath of the shooting for S4, the Lakehurst/Degrassi intertwining for S7, and the acclimating bullied vs. bullies feud for The Boiling Point).
Still, I’ve gotta say I’m a little disappointed in Becky’s character. It feels like Darcy all over again, but she seems to be even worse. I don’t think it’s all that unique or edgy to portray judgmental, condemning, self-righteous Christians anymore…we’ve reached a time where those are the only ones shown. I realize Clare is one as well, but it’s never brought up or dealt with.
As far as the other new characters…not really trying to be all that likable, are we? It’s an interesting approach to have them all (or almost all) serve as antagonists, and I guess we’ll see how it goes. That’s how Jay, Alex, Jenna, Bianca, Drew, Declan, Marisol, and kinda Katie began and it’s had pretty mixed results as far as winning viewers over to the character in the long run. I’m also pretty curious to see what’s gonna be done with Zig; when Campbell was announced I almost assumed he was sucked into the black hole with Kendra and Leia, but he was featured a fair bit in this promo. He really reminds me of a KC as far as the whole “cute guy with a troubled past the new lead girl falls for” but KC still doesn’t feel like a fleshed-out character and I worry he’ll follow the same path. It’d be interesting for those two to form a kind of mentor-mentee/big brother-little brother relationship, now that I think of how similar they are.

I don’t agree that K.C. isn’t a fleshed-out character (if anyone’s not as fleshed out as they should be, it’s Connor), but now that you mention it, I fully support a K.C./Zig relationship.

Thanks for the update! I check back here a lot to make to sure that I don’t miss anything Degrassi related. Lovin’ the promo. Finally some actually storylines to think about. Fiona’s storyline seems like it’s going to be interest. She’s laughing and interacting with a (most likely) homophobe hockey player. Imogen doesn’t look too happy about it. I kind of love how Imogen is just munching on a sandwich or something behind all of the Becky/Eli drama. I don’t know why. It just amuses me. I wish Adam had been in there a little more. I’m super curious to see what role his character plays with Becky and Eli this season. Getting excited!

I kinda do too… But it’s far more fun to see the character in street clothes, because it reveals a lot about them. I’m worried about Eli’s wardrobe…I miss skinny (TIGHT TIGHHHT TIGHT) jeans and all the black, it was so eli. But i understand that dealing with being bipolar, he probably doesn’t want any more negativity or darkness around him, and maybe thinking breaking out of black will help him.

I always theorized that uniforms were added to cut back from the show’s cost, like maybe they got a lower budget and couldn’t afford to clothes the 30+ cast, because season 10 seemed like a lot character’s were recycling more clothes than usual, and im not talking about the ones that should be wearing an outfit more than once because they are suppose to be low income. I dunno, it its true it means the return of clothes = bigger degrassi budget! GOD this season LOOKS SOOOOOO GOOOD.

AND i actually want there to be at least 2 or 3 main characters that leave degrassi as VIRGINS! because at this point, everyone is leaving with their cherry popped. Well… maybe toby is the only one that left without getting any. that is a good storyline, a couple NOT having sex.

They were all still wearing their own clothes with the uniforms and had tons of scenes outside of school where they were in their own clothes so I don’t think it was a budget issue at all.

Budget could have played into it but I think it was also the writers (pretty clever) way of showing us what grade each student was in. We got so many new characters in the past two seasons and the timing of the semester’s also shifted so I think they wanted to implement something that would be a physical sign instead of having the characters awkwardly talk about what year they were or whatever. Otherwise they definitely could have had everyone wear the same color.

With the drew and katie thing, I love that Katie is getting what she deserves, I can’t forgive her after the imogen, fiona betrayal. I feel bad that drew has sex with such an awful person and I support her being betrayed and dumped by Drew. I am aware of her helping drew with his ptsd but the sheer betrayal she did imo negates any good she has done. My hope is if bianca gets together with drew and she has changed and matured, maybe she can make drew a better person

I feel that Imogen was the true and only victim of that prank, Fiona not as much. Katie had a lot to lose and it was realistic that she felt that she couldn’t let all her hard work go down the drain. Heck there were 10+ other students including Drew and Owen that didn’t say a word. No one deserves to be betrayed by the person they loved (Bianca too was betrayed by Drew when she did something she hated to try to save him from Vince). Katie made a few poor choices but so have others like Bianca, who could’ve gotten Adam killed had Vince’s bullet hit somewhere else. Bianca has matured for the better but considering that Drew doesn’t seem to learn when it comes to relationships and loyalty, I feel he’ll only hurt her (promo suggest when she’s screaming for him to let go) or bring her back down.

Just an idea I had with all of the homophobic storyline going on, I’m really excited for this season. What if they had a new character, ex. Cam or Luke, who appears homophobe, but really struggles with feelings for a character like Tristan. I’m not saying that they are gay, but more they have romantic feelings they are fighting. A show I used to watch, Hollyoaks, did it really well, with one of the characters being ‘heterosexual’ but having a romance with his best guy friend. I think it would be neat for Degrassi to tackle someone experiencing love in a confusing and different way, and instead of focusing on another character coming out, having a character realize it doesn’t matter who they are with if they love them.

I think that’s Imogen, and ur right. But my theory is that this is why we see Fiona walking away from imogen and flirting (because that was not regular talking, that was girl flirt mode) with a guy (who i guess she doesn’t know is a gay phobic). Imogen admiting that while she likes Fi, she doesn’t like other girls, still likes guys could def make Fi act this way. Besides Imogen is really that type of character that seems like she doesn’t put labels or cares about them, she just cares about the person.

I think there’s a good chance Luke may be somewhere on the queer spectrum. Campbell and Maya are already being thrown at as the new “epic romance” and I genuinely don’t see Degrassi ever giving their “main heartthrob” guy characters a bisexuality storyline. It’s a topic that’s still very taboo and, unfortunately, I think a lot of the viewers that make up a key demographic for the show would be really confused and upset when this romance they’ve invested so much in takes a turn for the worse when their newest dreamboat falls for another guy.
Besides, it makes a lot more sense for Luke. We know that Becky’s a very religious character, and once again the show seems to be representing Christianity as a condemning and homophobic religion, so him coming from that could be interesting. A bit similar to Riley, tho…a jock with unaccepting parents who acts homophobic to hide it. Having a twin who’s against it could bring an interesting new dynamic I guess? I mean there’s a good chance that this WON’T be the case at all, but it does seem odd that we know almost nothing about the character and his specific storyline next season.

Right, but the point I was making was that there’s an unfortunate double-standard about male and female bisexuality. There is MUCH less representation of bi guys in the media than girls, so where sexual fluidity is more accepted and expected for women, men’s sexual identities are almost always expected to fit into either the “homo” or “hetero” box with no exceptions.This is even more true for the primary characters/heart-throbs/characters used to induce fangirl-ing.
It’s not right, but it’s how it is, and if Degrassi wanted to introduce a new male bisexual character I personally don’t think it would be the one they are promoting as one-half of the next epic romance of the series.

Only cause with that crying scene I’m hoping he is a closet gay or possibly bi and hides it from everyone…and he could take an interest in Tristian…which is why he tries to get close with Maya…then again this is just fan-girl thinking…I would feel bad if Maya ended up like Ellie…
I just want them to do a gay couple right for once…Riley and Zane were so underused after they got together…and i never thought Marco and Dylan worked well and Marco and Eric seemed kinda forced and pointless to me.
Anywho…this promo does look promising…I just hope it delivers.

The best part of the promo? Only 1 less than a split-second shot of Clare.
The promo actually makes the show look GOOD, which promos have been known to do in the past. Unfortunately, the better the promo, the bigger the letdown. I still don’t understand why we need so many newbies after just picking up 4 niners during the last portion of season 11, but hopefully they don’t forget about KC, Jenna and Connor, who don’t seem to fit in with the current direction of the show. Are they ever going to explain where Wes vanished to?
Is this the first time they called the school Degrassi High rather than Degrassi Community School? I like the throw-back to the original series.

Good point. With Junior High students not being in the cast since season 2, the whole Community School title is pretty moot. Kind of like they realized they haven’t added anyone from that era in a while so they were like “WHOOPS”

I wonder if Eli meets Becky before she starts at Degrassi. (Refering to The Dot scene). It seems they were a bit flirty with each other or they are on a date?? Those two have a lot tension between them. I can see Clare maybe get jealous or assumes Eli may not have the same feelings anymore. You have to admit Eli likes ‘Good Girls’.

I have a feeling that the only reason that Fiona is being so friendly to the hockey player is because of the homophobic storylines dealing with the hockey team. There’s definitely a reason behind it. I wonder if she’s afraid that she’ll get harassed by them like Tristan if they find out she’s gay.

As much as I don’t really care about the love triangle between Drew-Bianca-Katie, I’m glad they are getting that out of the way first. I personally don’t want to see Drew with either one because frankly they both deserve better. I really hope this trailer indicates a less relationship drama heavy season and put love stories in the background.

I think I’m the only one that doesn’t think anything romantic is going to happen between Eli and Becky. Apart from that E! article, nothing’s really indicated that it’ll happen. I also don’t trust promos when it comes to ships because S11 promos and hype made me believe Imogeli would eventually happen, and that ship never really did. I’d actually be pretty disappointed if their conflict leads to “feelings” because I think it’d be much more interesting to see a real girl-guy rivalry not based on romantic tension.
I honestly have zero interest in the new characters. I can’t tell the difference between Cam and Luke, it’s too soon to have a Riley 2.0 from Cam, and having another Darcy-esque character is so uninspired.

I read in a short resent interview with Annie and Jordy after the GLAAD awards that Adam gets a love interest but can’t say who it is. I have a feeling Adam may have feelings for Clare not Becky. This could cause a serious problem in Eli’s and Adams friendship. I Also think Eli’s ego ‘rivalry towards Becky (refering the play) is going to cause problems with Clare. Which may push Clare and Adam to be closer.??
As for Drew I think he is dating both girls at the same time and they have no idea.
Fiona and Imogen are going to have their ups ans downs maybe Fiona is testing her sexuality a bit more or she is going to find out more about Mike Dallas and the hockey teams with homophobia. This may cause problems with Fiona and Imogen. I hope Fiona becomes the head of the LGBT.

If you take a few seconds to think about it, it actually was a pretty smart move for them to bring 11 hockey players (excluding Mike) over to Degrassi seeing as how 11 seniors (including Mike) are about to graduate at the end of this season. Convenient, yes? On the contrary, I really hope it’s not their plan to make a regular out of all these guys. We quite obviously need some new girls as well. I mean we only have Becky… Lol, not feeling her at all.

The Drew/Bianca/Katie stuff is pretty interesting. I also find myself being intrigued by these new people starting shit lol. I feel this a welcome change as I found myself tuning out this show as I was getting bored. I’m back on board though and I’m very much looking foward to this summer!

… To the Fiona fans worried about her sexuality, there’s about as likely a chance of Tristan being interested in a girl this season than Fiona actually being interested in that hockey player. Her character has arguably never really even liked a guy and has been in the making of being a lesbian since the beginning of season ten or possibly the season nine movie if you take her kissing Declan as jealousy over Holly J. She was set up AS a lesbian character and if she didn’t get confused after dating Charlie, then why would she be confused now? And right after she just finds a love interest, she’s going to crush on a random new guy out of no where? I’d be more threatened if it were Imogen in the promo flirting with that guy since we have no background information of her sexuality. I think Fimogen will be fine. Their internal relationship problems seem like they will be on a smaller scale compared to the other characters based on the promos.

Personally I’ve known Fiona was a lesbian since Beat It when she told Riley “We can keep dating while you figure it out, but if I thought you were straight we wouldn’t be doing this.” I don’t care what anyone says, the writers knew she would be a lesbian when they wrote her onto the show. It’s just too obvious, especially with the original character description coining her as “the one girl who hasn’t had sex and doesn’t plan on changing that anytime soon.”

I actually enjoy Katie as a character.. One of my best friends struggled with an eating disorder in high school, and she got addicted to drugs. It was so bad that she would lash out, put herself in dangerous situations, and of anyone crossed her path she would make sure to destroy and torment them.. I hope the writers take that route with Katie, it would be interesting to see a lost, drug addicted, bitter to no end evil Katie :)

I hope Eli falls for Becky and I hope they date later on in the season. Also Im the only one who noticed in the season 11 Finale after Clare kissed Eli, Eli hust turned around and didn’t even smile when he left only Clare did. I also think Eli may love Clare but I don’t think he is into her like that anymore. As he has moved on. Also note Eli and Clare have not talked or mentioned each others name in the 2nd half of season 11 until the finale. I think Eclare maybe done…… Im sorry Eclare shippers but Eli and Clare were the most boring couple next to Hazel and Jimmy.

I’m getting a real heated, sexual vibe between Becky and Eli. They have similar energy so they literally spark off of each other like fire crackers. I have feeling they might end up acting on it and that will be the end of the Eli/ Clare thing. Don’t know what I think of that– I’ve always been a sucker for Eclare…mainly because they balance each other so well. But I can also see why they might want to give Eli a chance to explore other options. So far he’s only been with Clare (at Degrassi- Imogen doesn’t count ‘cuz that relationship was WACK) so how can he ever know if she’s really the one for him if there’s nothing to compare her to? Now that he’s healthy, it makes sense that he’d want to let go of the past and build a new future. Clare COULD become a part of it later on but, Eli needs to understand that she’s not the anchor anymore and the best way for him to do that is to step away from Clare. Granted, he’s been in therapy and what not but, this is actually a major test. She became a BIG fixture in his life and letting go of that will take a grand gesture (i.e. Eli telling her in no uncertain terms that he needs to be his own man). Besides, it seems so quick! Clare needs to be ALONE for a while, dammit. She’s totally soaring from one relationship to the next and it’s driving me nuckinfuts! Give the girl some independence– give them BOTH some independence. That way, if they ever really do come back together, it will be based on a well-executed choice, not because it’s easy or it’s based on their relationship in the past or it’s what we all expect.
I see Becky an an interesting twist because she challenges Eli– and that’s something that Clare used to do before she turned into a wet rag. Don’t get me wrong– I still adore Clare– but she really needs to re-build that fierce, determined side of her. It’s something we saw in that last episode and I LOVED it. She was driven and willing to take on the world, with or without the Daily Staff’s help. The Eli thing was cute but…eh…I don’t know. I feel like it’s just something to tide us over. I guess we shall see…

I agree, Also we know Eli has changed a lot and Eli & Clare have not spoken to each other in 11.5 until the final. Eli also said Do you think we can pick up where we left off before things got so messy (Im not sureabout the exact saying. lol). Well that happened before they dated. I think Clare got the wrong idea. Even at after the Kiss un ITCCN it seemed Eli wasn’t even sure. He did smile or turn back to look at Clare after that. Which kind of puzzed me. Maybe Eli’s could have chaned for Clare. Things like this do happen. Eli has changed so much with his therapy.. I loved the Elcare friendship but I would love for Eli to explore his options too. Im not downing the Eclare shippers but in reality this does happen.

I wonder if the whole point of Clare being there is a suicide plot. If everything bad is going on around her, with all of the negativity, she might feel maximum stress. At the very end, she is smiling, so I wonder if it’s because she “moved on” and is in a better place now. That would be so interesting.
