Episode description for Lose Yourself Part 1: Jenna is sick of living in babyville. She wants to come back to Degrassi. But does she have any shot at a normal life anymore?

Also, Sav and Ms. Oh get a little “friendly” and Clare thinks that Eli might be trying to sabotage or harm Jake.

I love the theory everyone’s coming up with that it’s Imogen who attempts to make it look like Eli is after Jake.  And I haven’t been shy about saying how boring of a couple Kenna is, but in Season 11 they’ve been given a plot that’s interesting. Some of my adoration of Jenna stems from the fact KC is such a douche, but she’s shown a ridiculous increase in her maturity from the person she was when she came on the scene in Season 9.

Oh, and yay for Mo’s first appearance of the season tonight!

Is Mo actually being ‘introduced’ or will he just be in the background? Or, do we know? All these new characters are pretty well written.

I am sorry I don’t no feel sorry for KC. I know he is 15 or 16. He is selfish and if he puts all the blame on Jenna about the baby falling off the changing table. Thats is uncalled for. Jenna probably had no clue that Tyson could rollover yet. My sisters baby accidently fell of the couch. We freaked out but he was ok. Being a full time single mom is one of the hardest jobs out there. And especially if you are a teenmom with no help. Piss off KC

I’ve never seen more people get excited over a supporting character before. It seems like every blog and forum our there has been waiting for this Mo character to come on!!

I must have missed the memo about what his purpose is other than a background player. Is he supposed to be getting a beefed up role? I sure hope he’s not graduating or else he would be rather pointless now.

I think people are excited because he was originally supposed to be a main character like Imogen, Jake and Katie. I have no clue why he was downgraded to a minor role. But even from the beginning he was listed as a senior so he’d be graduating in a few weeks anyway.

He is seen wearing a red shirt so that implies that he is in Grade 11. I’m guessing they changed it so maybe they have stories planned for him in the future.

That’s cool. I kinda like when they introduce background players in earlier seasons and then beef up their role later on. It makes the transition from a minor role to a lead one rather seamlessly.

Abuse, assault, battery, whatever you call it is bad.. But I would be the first person in line to pick up Jenna’s guitar and smack the fuck outta KC (excuse my french). His character just annoyed me. I didn’t realize how serious it was until seeing the sneak peek, like KC, are you fucking serious? You practically did this to your previous girlfriend, except now you’ve really cheated and your current “girlfriend” is stuck at home 24/7 taking care of YOUR child that you originally ignored while you go to school & work to flirt and make out with Marisol and party at Above the Dot as Clare rants at Eli..

I felt sympathy for KC in LoveGame because I know it’s hard for him to adjust, but this is just ridiculous, considering his past with Clare.. I truly hate KC with a passion, especially because of the fact he thinks he has to right to accuse Jenna of being a bad parent.. GROW THE FUCK UP KC (excuse my french once more).

I think I’m gonna end up yelling at my TV multiple times during tonight’s episode and tomorrow’s because KC is just sooooooooooooooooooo annoying -___________-

I feel the same way. I know it’s going to annoy the shit out of me when people start tossing out the “Jenna’s abusing KC” argument, as if this were a regular habit or she’s some overly aggressive monster, or it’s some slippery slope to her beating KC every day. Of course I don’t condone people assaulting others, but if I cheat on my girlfriend and harshly critique her parenting (while actively avoiding any of the at-home duties), I’m expecting nothing less than a punch to the face.

I am a mom and I know how Jenna feels. Shes lonley, depressed sleep deprived and needs help.
She gave every single clue to KC and he runs away from it. KC needs to man up and quit being a coward. After I saw the promo where the baby falls of the changing table. It scared me. It is so hard to keep an eye on a baby 24-7. Its sad but these type of accidents do happen even with the most wonderful and watchful parents. I really believe Jenna would give KC a can of Woop Ass.

No, it’s not ok for a guy to hit a girl. Sorry, but there is a double standard here whether people like it or not

      2. Unknown's avatar

But double standards shouldn’t exist at all. If it’s not okay for KC to hit Jenna, then it’s not okay for Jenna to freaking smash KC on the side of the head with her guitar.

Haven’t figured out the reply system.

It’s not okay for anyone (especially two parents) two physically harm each other, unless in self defense. But that’s my opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own.

I’m not saying people should just go around hitting whoever, whenever. But at the same time it should be looked at on a case-by-case basis, not lumped into an all-or-nothing category. I look at some girl slapping her boyfriend after he admits to cheating on her completely different than if it were a situation with someone punching someone else in the face because they cut in line at the grocery store, or some guy beating the shit out of his girlfriend because she looked at him the wrong way.

I gotta agree with Kary on this one,
Our society is BUILT on double standards so trying to figure out right from wrong is usually impossible. However in this situation I think KC deserves whatever he gets from Jenna because it’s not like he’s just cheating but he’s accusing the actual parent of being a bad parent PLUS he’s neglecting his own duties PLUS Jenna is at this fragile state following her pregnancy where she feels alone, abandoned, hurt, and now mentally/emotionally abused by KC.

So in a way she’s returning the abuse except physically XD

I agree with Kary, there are double standards and KC is more than deserving of a slap. I’d feel different if he wasn’t deserving of the ‘assault’ but he is pushing Jenna to her limits not only by cheating, but calling her a bad mother, and then leaving her with the baby 24/7. He had it coming *chicago voice* lol

Well, looking at the promo they’ll actually take it seriously.

And double standards, no one should live with them. Should we live with women being paid less for the same job because that’s how it’s always been? We need to change them. They’re sexist against men and women and hold us to different standards when we should be equal.

        Like

      9. Unknown's avatar

Well obviously women and men should have equal opportunities, as should all races, religions, etc. But it seems like you’re under this assumption that it’s possible to eliminate all double standards under every circumstance, or that they all should be eliminated, and that’s impossible. If someone attacks me and I hit him back, then we should both be thrown in jail right? We both assaulted each other…doesn’t matter if mine was in self defense. But I won’t go to jail because hitting someone in self defense IS a double standard in itself. In some cases, double standards are just exceptions to the rules/laws.

If some 17-year-old guy has consensual sex with his 15-year-old girlfriend, he can technically be thrown in jail and be tagged a sex offender for sleeping with minor. Now how on earth is it fair that he be labeled under the same category as rapists and child molesters? But if there’s no double standard to examine the situation and say he’s not a criminal though technically he broke the law, then dude’s life is forever screwed by the stigma of being labeled a sex offender. Not all double standards are good, but they’re not all bad either because there has to be room to use common sense.

I see what you mean, and I do think hitting back is justifiable if you’re being attacked but in this case, KC isn’t hitting Jenna, she just attacks him in anger. There’s no justification for it and she could get into serious trouble.

        Like

      11. Unknown's avatar

True. I doubt she’d get into trouble with the law (KC prob wont call the cops on her), but I’d definitely see her getting in trouble with the child services person if KC gets a black eye because they’ll say Tyson is in a hostile environment.

Double standards are based on individual perception. Personally, I do not believe in double standards, I only believe there are what Kary so eloquently dubbed as “case by case” issues. I CANNOT compare two separate events, even if the violence or circumstances are the same because: 1) each person handles a situation differently; and 2) each situation IS different. Regardless of whether the elements appear identical, it’s all a matter of perspective– precisely why criminal suits are tried on a case by case basis.

That said, are we really looking at the situation objectively? KC has emotionally and physically neglected his girlfriend and child. Are we trying to say that this is “not as bad” as being punched in the face? Mental and emotional abuse, although different, are just as trying as physical abuse. You think that the scars don’t run as deep? They certainly do! Perhaps the real problem is understanding that WE create double standards by trying to weigh apples and oranges. Instead of monitoring the way someone else behaves (i.e. Jenna) we should consider the glaringly obvious point that we know nothing about the situation or how it affects the persons involved. Honestly, Mega– you’re creating a double standard by saying that Jenna’s reaction isn’t the “right one”. How do you know that? Are you the last word on what is right or wrong? Isn’t it possible that, in Jenna’s mind, smacking KC up the head IS self-defense?? You have to remember that different individuals view situations in different ways. No one will EVER have the same exact perspective as you. Understanding this is the root of all tolerance. Perhaps Jenna simply could not take anymore and, who knows? Maybe a guitar to the head will knock some sense into the boy! The point is– KC’s decisions play a direct role in the situation. HIS actions are as much a part of the consequences as Jenna’s. After all, it takes two to tango…

        No.

We wouldn’t be even having this conversation if it was KC who hit Jenna with a guitar if she was “mentally and emotionally abusive” against her. Because KC’s the one who can take a hit right?

But i am all for Zane getting a story line :) i love eli and clare but i think they need a plot that doesn’t revolve around their love relationships with people or each other. They both are really strong characters but the show needs to give them a chance to go beyond the relationship stuff and get onto bigger more interesting things.

Despite your username “Eclaresucksass” you have a point. Their square has been getting way too much screen time and literally NOTHING has happened yet. It’s just this big ball of build up. Anya is on coke, Holly J is dying, Conner left Degrassi, Dave broke up with Sadie and got together with Alli, Ziley broke up, and more have happened in the time Eli, Imogen, Clare, and Jake have been in standstill and are practically the same way they’ve been since their first plot of the season.

They are dragging it on way too long in hopes of…I don’t even know, ratings maybe? I just don’t see the point in milking Eclare and their aftermath so much when they don’t do that for other couples and it does practically nothing for the show. Their plots aren’t even interesting only the little Imogen things make it bearable to watch.

Well the Eclare fanbase is so diehard, the show knows it can drag out the plot because they know those fans will stick around in the hopes the couple will reunite. But it looks like next Wednesday and Thursday (Extraordinary Machine) is when they’ll finally go full throttle on the plot when Eli loses his shit and tries to get Clare back.

I was disappointed when I heard the Sav/Ms. Oh thing was a C-Plot, but none of these seem like they are a A-Plot, B-Plot or C-Plot. I guess it’s because I enjoy all plots so I’m not thinking of one or two specifically, but it feels like each plot got the amount of screen time it should have.

Eli really scared me tonight and I guess Adam and Eli aren’t as close as they use to be (since he had no clue about Eli’s intentions but Imogen did). Clare was really good tonight and her and Jake are becoming more bearable (though in every scene do the writers have to remind me that Cake’s parents are dating?!) Jenna has now had plot points that revolve around 4 of her orifices. She was on diet pills that caused anal leakage, she threw up from pregnancy sickness, she gave birth and now had a leaking nipple. What’s next, a massively clogged nasal expulsion?

    general thoughts of tonight’s episode:

sav’s plot was my favorite. i want to see where their relationship goes.

but mo can go suck a dick.

jenna, damn he was on a changing table! stupid.

jenna was stupid for leaving him alone, but overall i feel bad for her.

kc, i can’t take yo ass seriously stfu

i think sav and jenna’s song will sound good

clare, shut up and calm yo tits.

eli was acting pretty normal until the last line about “it will be over soon enough”

unless he means, the play will be over soon enough. oh who am i kidding he’s gonna murder jake.

    wheres my new promo teennick???????

in regards to the post about jenna hitting kc with a guitar, think of it this way. if you found out that your boyfriend was cheating on you and he’s standing right in front of you what would you do? you would slap him on the cheek. most typical female reaction of all time, followed by bitching and yelling. maybe kc confronted jenna while she was playing the guitar. simple as that.

    I really liked tonight’s episode!

At first I didn’t get why so many people were excited about the introduction of Mo’s character but after seeing him I have to say I am a fan. There was something about him that was just naturally funny without trying too hard. And even though he and Sav were competing he didn’t get nasty about, it seems like he genuinely just wants to hang with Sav and help with music. Also I’m excited about the Sav & Ms. Oh plot, if this indeed goes anywhere it’ll be truly interesting. And wouldn’t a male student, female teacher relationship be a first for Degrassi?

Loved the Kenna plot tonight. Jenna has never been one of my fav characters, I’ve always felt sort of indifferent towards her but tonight I really felt how much she just wants to be a normal teen, and not in the sense of going out and partying but just having lunch at school with her friends. After this episode I am beyond ready fro KC to get smacked in the face, he immediately came to the hospital and started being accusatory without even trying to understand-I am beyond over him.

It was nice to see Adam and Clare talking again, I was starting to wonder if they were still friends in the Degrassi-verse. But all the fun of seeing them together was sucked out by all of their conversations being about Eli! Aislinn Paul recently did an interview where she said she kinda wished that Clare would stop worrying about boys and just focus on herself, those are my sentiments exactly. In every episode Clare is grating on my nerves with her boy-craziness. I truly long for the days when Clare was worried about robots and math competitions.

Also why does everyone all of a sudden have relationship amnesia. Like what’s with Jake being like “Oh yea I guess Eli is your ex-bf and maybe this play is kinda about you..” Where has he been? The whole school knows the play is about Clare. I don’t know if its intentional or just the way Justin Kelly plays the character but sometimes Jake seems really vapid and just kinda dumb in general. I get that he’s supposed to be easy going but he just comes off more like an airhead.

I think it’s possible Jenna might actually be one of my favorite characters now. How the hell did this happen?! Sure, it involves KC’s shitty treatment of her and their child, but I’m actually able to understand where she’s coming from. She wants to have as normal of a life as possible but she’s unable to be a regular teen without the help of the child’s father. I don’t know why KC is even pretending to give a half-assed attempt at parenting. He originally wanted nothing to do with the child, then he managed to get back together with Jenna and he should be expected to lend a hand. He can’t just keep Jenna around while he’s off having a regular HS life with a GF on the side.

I look forward to Jenna kicking his ass. It will be more than well deserved.

It’s one thing if that actually happens, I would learn to deal with it because our values especially when we’re teenagers DO change. But this is Clare we’re talking about, sex IS a big deal to her, and I would like to think they’d at least do the decency of showing it about to happen.

Oh and I forgot to mention the Eclare exchange. Ok so I literally just re-watched it. At this point I’m ready for someone to smack Eli. I get that Clare is not necessarily the most aggressive personality, but Eli’s responses to her call for a little bit more forcefulness. I’m also annoyed that Clare’s only concerned about what Jake thinks of this situation rather than about her own pride. Clare should be angry that her ex is airing all of their dirty laundry and his grievances about their relationship to the entire school. Eli’s response of “Oh Clare always so curious” was not only creepy but also condescending. If I were Clare he would not have walked away with that smirk on his face.

I cannot agree with you more. Eli and Clare are both acting stupid in the aftermath of their breakup. You seriously just read my mind.

She’s just worried that Jake’s going to realize she’s not as “easy going” as she wishes she could be, and he’ll break up with her to rid himself of the drama. Goddammit, I just want Clare to be single.

    3 things.
1.Anya’s mom reminds me of Holly J.’s mom & Claire’s mom reminds me of Drew’s mom…a little too much…
    2. So are K.C and Marisol actually fooling around?
    3. Jessica Tyler is a terrible actress…

I assume KC and Marisol have hooked up a few times. Also, Jessica Tyler definitely isn’t terrible. Trust me, when you find a movie/show with terrible acting, you will see it, but I’ve seen some really bad acting. No one on Degrassi is a bad actor/actress. Not everyone is good in every situation, i.e. Clare has a rep for being bad at crying (just watch Don’t Let Me Get Me LOL)

I’ve said many times that Jessica isn’t the strongest actress on the show, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t capable of churning out a good performance. She did well tonight! And she’s been better in Season 11 than Season 10, and the fact her plot this season has been better as well helps too.

I think crying in general is a really hard thing to nail. That scene where Jenna “broke down” in front of KC’s mom wasn’t believable at all, but I definitely think Jessica Tyler is improving.

I’m right there with you. it looks like they’ll be pushing this Eclare/Cake/Emogen quad all season long and I don’t think I’ll be able to deal with her attitude for much longer.

You know it’s bad when you start to prefer boring drip newbie Jake over an already established character like Clare.

This is proving to be a rather good Degrassi week.

Jenna: This plot really made me feel sympathetic with Jenna’s struggle. The plot made it very clear that she is stressed to the max and the only one who seems to want to help is not K.C., but K.C.’s mother. Her mistake was an honest one and she does seem to truly be trying her best at being a (practically single) mother. K.C. has dropped in respectability so much in my eyes during the past few episodes. Although an interesting dilemma occured tonight. If Jenna’s brother moved away, and Jenna discovers K.C. has cheated on her with Marisol, then she doesn’t have anywhere to go. It’s no longer like she can just move back with her brother anymore. She’s really stuck.

Sav: His crush is…well it kind of came out of no where. There was no build up to it. The episode just started with him liking Ms. Oh immediately which makes it difficult to ship them as a couple if that ever happens, not to mention the whole “she’s a teacher” thing. Mo is an enjoyable character to watch, but he comes off as too self-absorbed and cynical to me. It’ll be interesting to see if his character is used more this season for other things besides Sav’s musical score. Other than the introduction to Mo; however, this plot didn’t really make me care about Sav’s love struggles.

Clare/Eli/Jake: Clare is most likely being a bit paranoid and Eli is just messing with her head. However, the suspense of not knowing is very exciting. The scene where Clare confronts Eli was very…breathtaking. Not only is Eli a sociopath, but he really knows how to get under Clare and the audiences skin by being so ambiguous about his plans. Another plot that I can’t wait to see unfold.

Eli saying Jake is going to be out of the picture = Once he’s done building the sets that’ll be it.

The writers are trying to make Clare go over-the-top with Eli being unstable, which may actually make him more unstable, with Eli thinking perhaps she always thought he was crazy and it was her fault all along.

    Maybe.

I’m surprised Mo was sort of a ‘bad guy.’ I was hoping we were going to get a very shy guy who had weight issues… Hopefully he’ll stick around and we’ll get a good ‘overweight’ story from a male perspective.

Just a few things: If Jake was implying that he and Clare have been having sex, then I’d be really upset that that’s the way we find out. Unlike KC/Marisol hooking up, Clare having sex with Jake is extremely vital information!

I’m kind of upset that Adam is always with Clare now, rather than Eli. Probably more so because Clare really annoys me so far this season.

I didn’t like how Sav immediately had a crush on Ms. Oh… Oh, which reminds me, I actually enjoyed Mo’s character, despite the blackmailing and arrogance.

Degrassi is really making a habit out of inconspicuously suggesting that couples are having sex. They did it with Kenna by randomly dropping the bomb that Jenna’s pregnant without even showing us that she and KC are sexually active. I’m not saying they have to give us a porno show, but still.

And now, supposedly, Marisol and KC are hooking up? When exactly did this happen? I feel so ripped off because I was actually looking forward to seeing KC make “that” decision. I’m convinced now that the writers hate KC and want us to do the same. And it’s working.

And… if Jake and Clare are for reals having sex (which they’re not) without us being able to see this huge moment happen, I would be livid.

Clare and Jake are not having sex. In light of Clare’s views on abstinence, there’s no way the writers WOULDN’T make a thing out of her losing her virginity. It’s been such a fundamental part of her character, of how she navigates through her relationships with boys. It’s too important to sweep under the rug like that.

With KC and Jenna it was different. We knew that Jenna had a history of being a homewrecker, so given her character, it wasn’t a shock to know that the two of them were having sex.

The sex bomb–if you will–was dropped with Spinner and Manny, as well. Because Manny had a history of being promiscuous, I guess it just wasn’t a huge deal, despite the fact that she was Spinner’s first.

I think it’s kind of understandable how paranoid Clare is being since she’s seen how out-of-control and ruthless Eli was when it came to getting back at people during the last season. (It may even show that she feels guilty and that she wronged Eli even though she made the right decision; I dunno.) Plus, the play must be stressing her out, and the fact that she and Jake just started dating may make her paranoid over Eli because she doesn’t want anything to ruin her and Jake’s relationship so early. Clare, I think, just needs to breathe and relax just so she could realize that Eli may not be up to anything at all.

Jenna and K.C.’s plots always tend to anger me just because K.C. is a dipshit who is always ready to play the blame game and blame anyone but himself. Although it’s not right to hit your boyfriend/girlfriend, I feel that an ass-kicking for K.C. is very well-deserved.

Oh, and Mo’s okay, I guess; Sav’s crush on Ms. Oh came from nowhere, but the plot seems okay so far.

I used to hate Jenna and Jessica Tyler used to be a terrible actress. While she’s still not the best, she’s definitely improving, and I’m liking Jenna more and more this season. I’ve always hated KC though, and this season is no different! I can’t wait to see Jenna whoop his ass. :D It’s about time she found out he was cheating on her.

I feel like the Cake/Eli storyline is kinda repititve in a way. First you have Clare and Jake once again talking about how their parents are dating. Then Clare being paranoid about Eli. Enough with the paranoia, have something happen already! I liked the Eli/Clare interaction at the end though. Eli is delightfully creepy. ;)

I kinda like Mo. He’s a bit douchey, but funny at the same time. Sav’s crush on Ms. Oh was completely random and came out of nowhere. They should’ve started showing hints of him liking her before this episode so it’d be more believable.

If Clare keeps up with paranoia she will lose Jake and maybe this is Eli’s plan.

Oh Jenna I really feel for you I know how you feel. Tired over emotional and lonely
and Tyson needs you 24-7. Babies are hard work. You and KC need to talk. Maybe you should put the baby up for adoption. :(

Sav and Ms. O came out of nowhere. I understand why the boys have a crush on her. She is very attractive woman.

In a way I am hoping from something more from this story, such as K.C.’s mom had to much to handle and did something to the baby and all of a sudden Jenna is getting the blame. It would make it more interesting, but I doubt they would go that way. It would probably lead to an investigation and they would be cleared.
