Episode description for Should’ve Said No Pt. 1: Clare’s hormones are raging, and Jake keeps showing up at her house with his shirt off. But he doesn’t do relationships… can Clare handle that?

Drew also gets tired of lying in the snow, and decides to return to Degrassi. But he’s more paranoid than ever.  This seems to be Drew’s year so far being the most heavily-featured male, and so far he’s taking advantage of it. I’ve enjoyed his storyline so far and I’m looking to see how he continues to deal.

And Clare………that girl’s got a case of “Ellie Nash Syndrome” if I’ve ever seen one.

Also, Degrassi’s been nominated for 6 Gemini Awards this year!

*Best Children’s Or Youth Fiction Program or Series (also going up against Melinda Shankar’s How To Be Indie)

*TWO Nominations in the Best Direction In A Children’s Or Youth Program or Series Category (Phil Earnshaw for My Body Is A Cage Pt 2, and Pat Williams for All Falls Down Pt 2)

*Best Sound In A Dramatic Program (Degrassi Takes Manhattan)

*Best Writing In A Children’s Or Youth Program Or Series (Michael Grassi for My Body Is A Cage Pt 2)

*Best Performance In A Children’s Or Youth Program Or Series (Jordan Todosey for My Body Is A Cage Pt 2….she’s also going up against Munro Chambers for his role in The Latest Buzz)

And here is the Degrassi Extra recap of last night’s episode, Paper Planes Pt. 2:

    I’m actually kind of sick of Clare…she’s been kinda annoying this year. But this episode could be saved by Katie, whose pretty awesome. Oh and the charming jake.

    And Drew is becoming more interesting everytime I see him. At first he was boring, like any other stud degrassi has ever had, and I could have cared less. But this plot is really good.

    I saw a minute preview clip on some other gossip site (not sure if we can post links to other sites), but I think I’m going to be very mad at KC tonight for one simple gesture of the arm. Actually, I know I’m going to be mad since I already am!

    Looks like a whole bunch of stuff goes down tonight. Will be interesting to see Jake again, although I was not a fan the last time we saw him. Not sold on the “Cake”, like at all.

    I’ve noticed My Body Is A Cage is nominated for pretty much everything, so that means Degrassi will most likely win everything they were nominated for.

    But, seriously. How does Anya not know how to factor equations (I assume that’s what she’s learning how to factor)? I learned that in seventh grade… I’m in a gifted program, but still. Anya’s a senior. That part is a little uncredible.

      Right? I was like, Factoring equations? Don’t you learn that in Pre-Algebra, which for a lot of people is seventh grade? And don’t you use it in every math class thereafter?

      Lol. I’m in the gifted program too and we learned factoring quadratic equations (Holly J explained the factoring rule for quadratic equations so that’s what she was doing) in 7th, even though most people in my city learn it in 9th. That’s Algebra 1 which over here is a 9th grade course, advanced 8th grade course or super-advanced 7th grade course (one of the 6 of us).

    Incase anyone cares about Highland Gardens: http://www.tv-eh.com/2011/08/03/production-begins-on-highland-gardens/

    The ensemble drama stars:

    Joe Dinicol (MURDOCH MYSTERIES, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) as “nice-guy” Nick, a struggling stand-up comedian from Edmonton who is always the best friend and never the boyfriend;
    Andra Fuller (The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Entourage) as Kaldrick, the extremely successful Hip-Hop artist hailing from the streets of Oakland, California;
    Jonathan Patrick Moore (Neighbours, All Saints) as Connor, a break-out Australian with drop-dead good looks and a dark past;
    Chelan Simmons (SMALLVILLE, SUPERNATURAL, KYLE XY) as Alicia, a sensitive, aspiring dancer from Regina who will do whatever it takes to make ends meet;
    Jewel Staite (FLASH FORWARD, STARGATE ATLANTIS) as the street-smart Haligonian Raquel, who’s frightened of becoming yesterday’s news;
    Cassie Steele (DEGRASSI, RELIC HUNTER) as Abby, the naïve Toronto actor who is ready to fight to get to the top;
    and Benjamin Charles Watson (Todd and the Book of PURE Evil, The Listener) as Tariq, the confident and talented African-Canadian hip-hop artist with a secret on the down low.

    So it looks like it is NOT a Degrassi Spin-Off.

      EXACTLY!! their first kiss was good at the beginning of the season (maybe because Jake went in for the kill and not Clare), but in this episode every time they started kissing it looked awkward and like she was eating his face or something. and I agree about Clare’s hair, I think it makes her look older. We never got to see her with long hair and without glasses, which I think would have been really pretty.

    Ok well i thought that this episode was a good one, and cleared some questions up that i had.

    1. I thought Katie was a bitch and had it out for Clare. Which wasn’t the point at all, she asked Jake not knowing at all Clare had a thing for him. So she’s not a bitch haha
    2. i thought that Clare was just standing there watching Eli and Imogen talk on the bike from previews, but the case was that she was writing a note to Jake and stumbled apon them.

    I feel so bad for Drew and what he’s going through :(
    Clare needs to slow down DAMN!!! But Jake is hot and i think i really like him :D and Clare’s awkward moment on the stairs wow!!! haha

    Jake and Clare have anti-chemistry. I’m just not feeling them, like at all. Not only is Jake corny and kind of an egomaniac, he also has horrible fashion sense. Dude, life-preserver vests went out in 1985. Just ask Marty McFly.

    Tonight was rather dull. Not feeling the Drew saga any more (I’ve come to realize Bianca made him interesting) and the Dave/Alli thing is so forced, my eyes were rolling so far in the back of my head, I had a clear view of my couch cushions.

    Katie is still my favorite newbie and would like to see a lot more of her soon.

        Drew’s plot as a whole is an interesting one, but for me it needs more Bianca! The biggest issue I have with a solo Drew storyline is that I personally don’t think LB is that great of an actor, so he needs a solid supporting cast to get him to rise to the occasion.

        He does anger and rage fine though, as we’ve seen him exhibit such qualities on several occasions now.

    I didn’t give this episode my undivided attention like I usually do, but based on what I picked up on it, it was kinda boring.. I’m excited for tomorrow’s episode though, it looks like all the plots are gonna be interwoven which is cool. This Movie Night thing looks cool. It reminds me of that episode many seasons back when Sean, Ellie, Toby, Jimmy, Hazel and I forgot who else all had detention. It was like multiple plots in 1 plot which is what I feel like tomorrow’s episode is going to be.

    And really KC? I’m just hating you more and more. Fucking (excuse my french) homewrecker Marisol continues to make KC drool and KC acts like it’s no issue. It’s not like he has a kid, right? Just sayin..

    something that interests me for tomorrows episode is when dave asks kc how it is obvious him and marisol have something and how many times the 2 of them have hooked up. then kc answered with a smile. so if dave is implying what i think hes implying, its interesting how theyre not directly having an episode where kc and marisol start an affair for the first time but its just assumed.

    im excited to see a casual sex clare this season. i mean a casual relationship clare this season. though im pretty positive shell lose it this season.

    this episode is better than paper planes so far. im excited to see the next episode, and i like how all of these plots come together at one event. i think we need episodes like that more often.

    Alli Bhandari And Marisol Lewis dominated this episode as supporting characters.

    My opinion is completely different I felt like this episode was really good. It had my attention all day. Jake was funny talking about Clare in a sneaky way. Katie, everyone have to agree you love… Just love her. She’s not mean at all; she just determined and has no time for slacking. The acting was superb.

    Clares plot was interesting; also seeing Eli and Imogen interacting.

    We even seen K.C. and Marisol interact, Dave and Alli are kool I always wanted them together, but now I don’t want Sadie to lose him. I don’t know… As for Alli she was hysterical.

    Clare: I hate him! I just hate him!

    Alli: Eli.

    Clare: I keep thinking of his half naked body.

    Alli: Defiantly not Eli.

    (That was funny also)

    Dave and Alli conversation, when Alli said something like “You end up like that.” She pointed to K.C. and Marisol; They were against the lockers.

    Over all I loved this Episode. The next one seem okay to me.

    Again! Marisol and Alli dominated this Episode!_!

    Also” the extras in the background when drew was spazzing out at the lockers and the gym were perfect.

    Last note I love that the plan that Riley and Zane had to make degrassi heathier is on action…

    I loved how when Dave/Alli were walking down the hallway, KC and Marisol were talking against the lockers. I also like that they’re showing them together a lot and that they’ve apparently been getting closer behind the scenes.

    Also, did anyone see how when Drew backed Adam into that corner, Adam pushed him back and was ready to throw Drew around some more. Adam can totally take him! :]

    This episode wasn’t bad to me or anything, I was pretty content with it. I’m more excited for tomorrow’s episode because of how all of the plots seem to be featured at this Movie Night, and I agree with everyone who thinks we should have more episodes like that.

    Something that I’ve loved about this season so far is how we see a majority of the characters every single episode! They’ve been doing a great job at putting characters into the background and most of the supporting roles in plots this season have been solid.

    Favorite lines in tonight’s episode: “(Dave to Adam) If Sadie asks, we have a date tonight… Adam: I have absolutely nothing to wear.”

    “Clare, you’re an awesome girl but not every guy is going to crash a car into a wall for you”. (It amuses me that Alli constantly mentions Eli crashing Morty, haha.)

All of the plots had a hook (Clare not wanting to give into lust, Drew wanting to forget everything, but letting his paranoia get the better of him, and Dave and Alli trying to keep that “friends” thing) but theyre all just set ups for tomorrow, where it seems like everything is just gonna hit the fan at the movie night thing.

    Like a few people mentioned on here already, I’m not totally sold on the Cake chemistry : / I do think the idea of Jake just wanting to “have fun” set up against Clare being so overly analytical and tense will be interesting. I’m curious to see what that will mean as a result for these characters being together. Will Jake suddenly want to be reformed and turn into Clare’s bf or will Clare be a late-blooming Manny Santos and become Degrassi’s newest party girl (somewhere deep inside I would love that, let Clarebear be free! lol)

    I’m intrigued by Drew’s plot. I like that Luke Bilyk is getting the opportunity to have a storyline that does not center around a girl, it shows a diff/interesting side to his character.

    Also I LOVE Melinda Shankar. We don’t get How To Be Indie in the states obviously but i’ve seen clips on Youtube and she def seems most comfortable doing comedy. I like that she’s able to bring that into Alli more this season.

    Last I really am loving the new way Degrassi is approaching story timelines. Before everything happened in a vacuum, we had to watch each relationship develop from stage one to stage to the next (admittedly some were more rushed than others) but I like that it feels like real life and as the viewer we just pop in and out of characters’ lives but there’s a sense that everything is still moving even when we’re not focused on one or the other. Excellent examples of that tonight were K.C. and Marisol and Eli and Imogen.

      I usually complain if storylines and relationships are glossed over and we go from point A to point C without seeing the in-between (KC and Jenna having sex was a biggie for me last season), but they really seem to have a good flow going on right now. I like how we’re seeing little bits and pieces in the background or in passing, just to connect one story to the next.

        I completely agree about KC and Jenna having sex, especially because it was part of their next major plot which was teen pregnancy. initially when Jenna said she was pregnant I was like with what?!? The way the writers handled that was almost identical to JT and Liberty where all of a sudden JT is bragging to Toby about him and Liberty having sex and then we realize the condom slipped off. I know everyone isn’t going to get a “love scene” but when sex impacts the rest of the characters storylines I def think the writers should show us that it happened.

        Like

      2. Unknown's avatar

        ITA about JT/Liberty. They went from 0 to 60 overnight and I’m surprised they didn’t give any more lead in because Liberty didn’t seem like she would have been one to jump into bed so quickly. They definitely missed one piece of the puzzle there.

        You can’t just put 2 people together, only show them casually dating and then BAM, girl gets pregnant. You need some further implications.

    But on another note, the writers did a fantastic job with showing us everyone! I guess I’m trying to say that it feels like degrassi is more like highschool now. Before characters had their camera time then dissapeared. But now we see them in the background or interacting with different people.

First of all…that hair. OMG….When Claire came on in Season 8, the longer hair worked great for.The short hair needs to go. Her character was FUNNY in Season 8, Decent in Season 9, Awesome in Season 10(part 1), Annoying in Season 10(part 2), and is now my least favorite character because she is such a shadow of what she used to be and far away from what she could be…..

      I will be so pissed off if Clare loses her virginity, even moreso if it’s to Jake. I don’t even like the idea of her losing it to Eli, and that’s someone she’s actually in love with. Clare has always just seemed to really believe in her faith unlike Darcy, so it’d be just so massively OOC for her. I know she’s been reevaluating her beliefs lately, but it doesn’t seem so dramatic enough (yet) that she’d jump into bed easily. You’re completely right; it’s not impossible for people to stay virgins throughout high school.

    I am completely sold on Cake’s chemistry. Why? First cause Jake is very charming and Clare would be blind not to be attracted to him. And 2nd, Jake said he isn’t looking for anything serious and he knows he obviously has an affect on Clare. She initiated the kiss, and he had no reason to not go along with it. The whole, lets have fun is completely credible. Jake is a player, and players need to play.

    The chemistry between Cake wouldn’t have made sense if they would have made Jake try to pursue a steady relationship with Clare.

    However, I do believe Clare is more into Jake then he is into her.

    I still don’t know what his deal is, but maybe we will get more of an insight on his character in tomorrows episode.

    I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but I’m actually kind of enjoying Cake. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I’m loving Jake, and Justin Kelly plays his charm so well. It’s easy to see why Clare would go weak at the knees for a guy like that. I don’t see myself ever shipping them, but I don’t mind them at all; they’re a couple I can tolerate.Their kissing is just too awful to forgive though, haha. Their chemistry is so much more believable when they’re just talking and flirting. They’re still a damn sight nicer than Imogeli, that’s for sure (Eli pulled a douche move back there). This won’t end well though; friends with benefits relationships (especially in high school) never do. Someone’s feelings are going to get hurt; I’m just wondering who’s it going to be.

    Honestly, have the boys of Degrassi ever heard of monogamy? Because the amount of underhanded flirting and cheating that’s happened in recent seasons is ridiculous, haha. I’m just disappointed that this is what finally brings together Dave/Alli. I’ve been rooting for them since S9, but I did’t want them to happen like this. Sadie’s too sweet of a girl to get her feelings hurt like that.

    I just want to acknowledge how wonderful it is to see real character development for Drew. And to see Luke Bilyk’s acting chops once again. Drew’s become so much more than the ladies’ man and jock, and he’s going to come out of this mess as a well-rounded person. Maybe now I’ll actually like him, haha

    This episode was just awkward in general for me. Every time Clare and Jake kissed I cringed. And the scene where Drew went up to Dave’s dad and started freaking out was just random and confused me.

    One thing is obvious: both Clare and Eli are still in love with each other. If the song that played during their little scene didn’t give it away, the look they gave each other sure as hell should have. They’re also both very hurt. It’s sad.

    Yeah, I’m not really too fond of Clare right now either. Every since the second half of season ten it feels like she’s trying to be somebody she’s not or something. I don’t know. I think Jake and Clare are going to be getting a huge shock when they realize their parents are dating lol.

    Seriously, Marisol. You are annoying. Go away.

    I really liked the scene between Drew and his mother. Finally, she’s shown a non-bitchy side!

    And I am rooting far Dalli. I just really like Sadie, so it sucks.

    This episode was a complete waste of time. The only thing interesting was Dave and Alli. Everything else sucked. The make out scene with Clare and Jake was just horrible. I was hoping Eli would have taught Clare how to kiss better (But i guess, they were too busy cleaning his room then making out in it). Drews freak out on Daves’ dad was just weird. Lukes’ acting was just his worst ( worst then the fake vomit scene). Best scene was when Adam pushed him off basically telling him to get help. Sad episode. Hopefully tonight is better.

    “Okay, we’ve covered the heart. Onto reproductive organs!” is the best background line in this episode.

    I actually thought the episode was pretty cute with Clare and Jake. I honestly think they’d make a cute couple but I can defintely forsee that Clare’s mom has been going out with Jake’s dad which will pose as some weirdness between them and make for a pretty interesting plot if things go further like Clare’s mom and Jake’s dad eventually getting married or something but thats too early to tell.

    Did anyone else think that Imogen and Eli (or maybe just Imogen) had something to do with the whole Katie and Jake going to Movie Night thing? If you remember, Clare put that note on Jake’s truck and Imogen and Eli kind of looked over after Clare left. Then Katie tells Clare that Jake asked her to movie night and later Jake, holds up a note saying Katie asked HIM. Not unless that was still Clare’s original note and it just made it seem that lol.

    Drew’s plot is pretty interesting too. I feel bad for him with how hes trying to deal with the whole gang member incident and I don’t blame him for being scared and paranoid but I do think he needs some help to deal. He needs some sort of outlet for his emotions instead of taking them out on friends and Adam for that matter. I guess we’ll see what happens.

    Oh my. Jake.. So officially over psycho Eli. He just gets stupider in ever episode. Any ways back to Jake… Did anyone else alomost jiz themselves, when Jake and claire had that first kissing seen on her bed, I envied Claire because I could tell that Jake is a damned good kisser. He was so relaxed and calm, while Claire was going at him like a crazed animal. mmmm. She never knows what to do with the goods she has. =p.
