Above is the promo for some of what happens over the course of this week’s episode, but we all know tonight’s episode is where Anya starts doing coke. I wanna point out that Owen doesn’t look too happy with Anya’s drug use…whether it’s because she’s behaving too ridiculous on them or he doesn’t like the fact that she’s doing them at all is TBD.

Did not get accepted At TU. She had high hopes for an older man that basically had no interest. Anya is very naive girl who is so lost. I am actually pretty scared for her right now.
I have a bad feeling for Clare. I think Clare is going to lose her virginity to Jake. And she is going to like him more or be very ashamed. Clare is so vulnerable right now so who knows.
But in the Much promo Jake said he is not going to push her if she is not ready. So kudos to Jake. The aftermath is going to get wierd especially if he does not want a relationaship. I would be a one night stand.
Fiona and bedbugs OMG! this really sucks. Because Charlie probably brought them when she moved in. Maybe she will bunk with Eli. LOL. I am sorry I am a Eli and Fiona shipper.

Well hopefully this will turn out to be one of those “She goes to a bad place but gets pulled out and learns her lesson.” I really hope Owen helps her out in all this. In the promo for teennick, he definitely looks disgusted so I hope that Owen shows us that hes not a huge jackass pig and that he truely cares for Anya.
I like characters like that. Where you start to hate them in the beginning but they turn out to be pretty outstanding people.

Predictions thus far:
Anya’s turn for the worse (and TU rejection) will mean she’s back for another year at Degrassi. I also think her moms cancer will return, and make her realize the errors of her partying ways.
Adam: I think that him and Katie will get together (she seems to have a good head on her shoulders), but in a turn of things it will be his issues that will end things (rather than Katies issues with Adam being trans).
Clare: I think Clare’s mom will start dating Jake’s dad (did anyone else catch they way they looked at eachother) and it will create a super akward situation between Clare and Jake (whom I think will spend at least part of the season together). I think Jake will calm Clare down, but then turn out to have more issues of his own to deal with.
Alli: I think this will be a good season for Alli. I can see her doing well in school, science club, etc. She’s a leader and I think that will shine through this season in a positive way.

I think/hope that’s what’s going to happen with Adam and Katie, too. Just because he’s trans doesn’t mean he’s the perfect guy, and I’m hoping the writers make it his fault they don’t work out. The “Poor Adam” storylines can only continue for so long.

I really dislike this Anya/Owen storyline. I hate the fact that Owen suddenly did this overnight transformation and is supposed to be this nice guy. He’s a homophobic bully that Anya should never associate with. Suddenly he has morals? Please don’t insult me. I do like Holly J speaking out against him, giving Anya a little tough love, so hopefully she will help get her through this. So far Owen hasn’t helped Anya out one bit so I fail to see how good he is for her.
Can we please get more Fiona/Eli and less Fiona/Charlie? I was hoping a bed bug would eat Charlie whole. I’m really ready for her story to wrap up.

This is the same guy that bullied both Riley and Zane for months on end, and now he’s shaking his head back and forth when Anya wanted to try coke. He’s either a badass in all forms or he’s not. Don’t try to sell me one or the other. Why should Anya ever spend time with someone who was so mean to his friends? And not just mean, but homophobic against his sexuality. I dislike the fact that they are making him seem like a viable option for her.

Oh it’s not anything new, but if you take a character like Jay, you could see they invested time to evolve the character to someone with morals and a worthy romantic interest.
They’ve invested no time in Owen. He only appeared in 2 episodes of the 2nd half of S10, at the very end of last season. There wasn’t any buildup to this Owen/Anya relationship, nor did we get to see a “good” side in his character when we did see him at the end of S10. They went from homophobic bully to romantic love interest *just like that* and that’s the biggest issue I have. Perhaps if they developed the character further in the early part of the 2nd half of S10, it wouldn’t seem as jarring now.

I like the Fiona/Charlie plot because FINALLY Degrassi is doing something right (or at least it seems so from the promos)
Now they aren’t only focusing on the relationship side or the sexuality side of Fiona but they are bringing it back to her drinking problem. So it’s great to see they haven’t dropped that entirely and I want to see how that turns out tomorrow.

Owen did help Anya make that call to HU Admissions and he does have a point, albeit a slight reach of a point. Those applications you have to write… anyone can write something compelling on a application. Even though face-to-face interaction is arguably the best type of communication, talking over the phone is a solid alternative. Admissions hears your voice, and if you are prepared to speak to the person on the other line, you have a great chance of getting further in the process, which is what Owen was trying to tell Anya.

Owen’s still a homophobic bully, but obviously he’s smart enough to show a different side to a girl he likes and wants to get with. Besides, Anya’s not LB or T so there’s nothing he’d be rude to her about, it’s not like he’s heartless just ignorant towards that group of people. I think they’ve actually done a good job of keeping him in character throughout this; obviously we’re seeing a more charming, likable side because that’s what he wants Anya to see, but there’s still some smarm and it’s not exactly sweet a la Sav.

Amazing episode. I loved the Anya plot and Owen isn’t as much as a jackass as he was previously portrayed to be. I was like ‘Uhh, okay’ with the Fiona plot. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good. It still didn’t bring down the episode though. The Connor plot was good. It did what a C-Plot was supposed to do – made me laugh and served as comic relief. I think Paper Planes has the potential to become one of my favorite episodes of S11/Now or Never so far (so far it’s LoveGame, Spring Fever & Cry Me a River in no particular order)

I slightly disagree about Owen’s character derailment. He still comes off as a douche, but it seems like they’re fleshing out his character by adding a slight morality layer. its not like he can be a completely evil bastard on the show for more than two seasons before it would get old.

Well the thing is people are taking the picture we’ve been given of Owen and are blowing it up to an incredibly extreme level. Not saying what he did to Riley/Zane was wrong…of course it was. And yes he’s STILL a jerk, but that doesn’t mean he’s off bashing gay people 24/7 like it’s a hobby of his (which everyone seems to believe he’s doing). And I have to point out, once again, that Anya is in a desperate, defeated state of mind…plus girls in real life tend to make shitty decisions when it comes to guys anyway.
It’d be illogical to assume Owen is some big bad wolf who suddenly developed a level of morality out of nowhere. Hell, even Bin Laden had a level of compassion for his inner circle of family and friends despite being a despicable terrorist worldwide.

Tonight’s episode was barely interesting to me. Connor gets the C-plot again, which is fine, but all he did was steal more undergarments; this plot needs to go somewhere already.
Fiona and Charlie and bed bugs is pretty boring; I think they need to get rid of Charlie. Also apparently, they’ll be bringing Fiona’s drinking back. I’m all for continuity but seriously…
I didn’t really like the way the episode began with Anya just jumping right into doing coke. I guess they figured since episodes are daily that we should feel like all the Anya-drama and her depression just happened, but it still felt forced to me. I don’t know, maybe that’s just me. Also, the focus doesn’t even seem too much on her doing coke, but more on her and Owen’s relationship, and that sucks.

About people saying Owen just suddenly “changed his ways”, I’ve seen people completely change for a girl, which in this case is Anya. He obviously likes her a lot, willing to change from the homophobe to someone who is actually trying to help.. Did you see the way he pursued her in Chasing Pavements, Whats My Age Again and Idioteque? I mean like, he never really took the *best* approach but he definitely showed that he really cares for Anya.

I think the biggest issue I have is that we’ve seen this before on the show and those characters were able to change over an extended period of time. Owen hasn’t been given this additional time to show viewers he’s not a homophobic douche anymore. Perhaps if he was featured in some B or C plots before this season, this “sudden” transformation wouldn’t seem so sudden.

Alright, the “big date” Ownya planned was at a club? I understand Owen’s idea for Anya to get stress free and loosen up, I have to disagree on the choice of venue.

Anya messed up by doing more lines in the bathroom, which caused her to sass Owen and start grinding on that guy. As for tomorrow’s episode, is it me or is Charlie kind of pressuring Anya to drink? Hope that’s not the case, also I think Alli will confront Connor about what she saw. I believe that scene in the locker room was the first time they saw each other in a long while.

Holly J was being a bitch to Owen if he made her feel good for the past few weeks get over it and accept him. Owen was out of line telling Anya that she can’t speak to her anymore, but Anya’s acting like her and HJ were such great friends. She treated her like crap season 7, they weren’t all that close season 8, had small conversations 9, and became associates again last season. Everyone here is to blame but especially Anya’s dumbass.
I don’t ship Farlie, but the plot was pretty good they don’t need Fiona pointing out she’s a lesbian every episode she’s in. She had a non sexuality related episode today and I was happy about that!
They need to start moving forward with Connor’s plot.

Overall this episode was very boring to me.
Anya: I understand why she wants to escape her bad decisions with another one and how she feels like everyone tells her what to do (they do), but the film-makers aren’t making me feel like her using cocaine is going to have drastic consequences. Yes she had a bad comedown, but it passed quickly and didn’t really leave a lasting impression. The rest of the her plot was rather drab and lackluster squabbling with Holly J. and Owen.
Fiona: Again…this plot didn’t interest me. Fiona discovers a gross problem and looks to the most obvious solution to it immediately (Charlie brought the pests) and the audience knew immediately that in the end it wouldn’t be her and they would quickly make up. Nothing new or exciting here. Just another uninteresting Fiona plot this season.
Connor: This plot (sadly) interested me the most of all. I am disappointed that this plot is moving at such a snails pace, but it did provide an interesting scene where he injures Alli (yet again). Other than that one scene it didn’t expand on Connor’s obsession or where it seems to be going.

I don’t think the coke plot went too fast. Most people who try for the first time is out of curiosity and yes some kind of distress but mostly curiosity! Anya was stressed and felt bad about the university so she just decided, why not try! Farlie is boring me but I’m glad they didn’t talk about Fiona being a lesbian again! Seems like Connor storyline will conclude next episode!

The anya storyline wasnt rushed at all. It moved at the right speed. If she did coke at the end then the WHOLE episode would have been TOO PREDICTABLE.

I was glad they started it off with her doing coke instead of trying to surprise us. It follows the feeling of this season, starting things off with a bang instead of over hyping the end.
The story is more about how the coke will afftect Anya, not just the fact that she is doing it.

i was happy to see the eli/fiona interaction. it was funny how he stood up so quickly when he thought fiona has bed bugs. anyway he seemed ok, and thats good. i want to see more of that. did anyone noticed that on tomorrow promo fiona is telling eli about her and charlie taking it to the nest level. at least i think it was eli. anyway i kind of liked the idea of owen and anya together but, idk, i dont see the point of it if anya is graduating soon. i liked that he motivated her to call the university and that he tried to apoligized for acting like such a jerk in the club and i thought anya would help him change, but anya is the one who need help now. dont like the road shes in, hopefully it wil be over soon.

people are going nuts because eli didn’t act like a lunatic in this episode.
and i just have to say that people who are mentally unstable don’t act mentally unstable 14 hours a day. they have ups and downs, moments of normalcy. my brother’s the same way. and that’s also what makes it heartbreaking, because when they show tiny glimpses of what they’re like when they’re normal, it makes it ten times harder when they slide back into the “crazy mode.”

While watching tonight I was literally yelling obscenities at my TV about how stupid Anya was for doing coke on a whim. My sister said that tonight’s story seemed unrealistic because it was rushed. But now, Anya’s issues make total sense to me. She has had terribly low self-esteem since her intro on Degrassi. She was Holly J’s shadow, she got made fun of for being dyslexic, she slept with Sav in order to keep him around, Dr. Chris “dumped”her (and of course Sav never had the balls to tell his parents he had a girlfriend which was another blow to her self-esteem. ); the list is endless. Now with Owen, I can understand why Anya is attracted to him. He pays attention to her and “worships her”. No one has really given Anya positive attention before (i.e. made her feel wanted) Anya doesn’t value herself because she’s never had a reason to. Everyone has walked all over her for most of the show, so for once she wants to make her own decisions.
I actually really like Charlie and Fiona. I wish Charlie was a main character because I hate Katie, Jake, and Imogen. Charlie seems like a really genuine person and she seems like she’s very forgiving too.
Connor’s stealing panties…um, hope it goes somewhere significant. I lmao when he knocked Alli to the ground though ngl.
I finally agree with Drew’s decision to dump Bianca after watching tonight’s episode. Bianca was shady from the start, but the fact that she still hangs out with people who do drugs (and presumably other kids who cause trouble) proves that she didn’t learn her lesson from the whole Vince thing. Basically, all Drew wanted Bianca to do was make better decisions and change her lifestyle, but she failed, so she lost him. The only issue I have with Bianca is that we don’t know that much about her past. I wish they’d do an episode where we see why she acts out in order to get attention.

*Studz-era: Sav wanted Anya to be supportive at those unplugged gigs the band had. Sav, until it was almost too late, wanted nothing to do with LARPing.
I believe Anya’s “Now or Never” is as you pointed out in the last sentence, wanting to make her own decision and stop trying to please everybody because as she’s realizing, you will not be able to do that.

Personally I like the douche bag Owen. Not in the sense that he is a good person but if everyone loved each other and never showed any discrimination there would be no Degrassi. I think he’s a jerk and a loser but his character is needed to make other characters lives miserable. As far as Imogen goes I’d love to punch her… Am I the only one that finds her super annoying? She reminds me of a stalker groupie and Eli is so lost in his own mess of a mind that he can’t see it. Something tells me this will lead to another one of a kind, dramatic explosion, that only Eli’s character can bring. I think Eli has left the land of the sane but he is a perfect fit for his character. As far as Clare goes she needs to stfu and get some Midol. At first I thought that Kate was being a bit bitchy but in all honestly Clare really needs to stop being such a drama queen. I really hope Jake gives her something to be more cheerful about or at least make her stop whining about Eli.
I love Charlie. I don’t know why all of you are hating her. Poor Fiona hasn’t had one nice relationship on this show. First she dated Riley because she knew he was gay. Then she dates a guy who beats the crap out of her. She then realizes shes a lesbian and has a mega crush not only on her best friend but her brothers ex. She was doomed from the start with Adam. And now we have Charlie. She is cute and likable so far. I may change my opinion after the drinking scene tomorrow but Fiona needs to be happy a little before she gets booted off the show. Hell even Ellie had better relationships then this and that girl had no luck.
Am I the only person who thinks that Conner is becoming a super freak? Hes being a huge pervert and its really creeping me out .I hope he gets caught soon so this story line ends already is gross.

As Sara pointed out in her post, Anya is attracted to Owen because of the positive attention he’s giving her. He’s being a nice guy, treating her well because she’s in need of something like that right now.

Yes Spinner and Jay were homophobes and bullies but
1) They weren’t violent with their homophobia
2) They had seasons worth of development to get us to like them or at least understand them

Cocaine is not okay when it has to do with Anya, someone he cares about.. If Anya was a lesbo, he would care less about him doing cocaine.. Just because he cares about Anya doesn’t mean he’s still not the same homophobe that beat up Zane and harassed Riley.. He just has no reason to act like a homophobe around Anya because Anya is straight..

Yeah the question isn’t so much why he cares about her now, it’s a matter of why on earth he started liking her in the first place. If they’re going out he’s obviously going to show that at the very least, he somewhat cares for her. But why he even liked her in the beginning comes off as so completely random, because like you said his attraction to her just came out of nowhere.

Thank you. That’s where I stand with Owen. They haven’t invested any time in trying to grow the character. They literally went from homophobic bully to object of Anya’s affection without any growth in-between. I would have far less issues if we actually saw Owen regret his bullying and/or show consideration towards others.

Paper Planes pt.1
Anya – Her plot bored me a bit. Honestly, her life isn’t all that bad. She didn’t get into university…but she always reapply next semester and claim a semester off like a lot of students do. Dr. Chris dumped her, but she has Owen who seems to genuinely like her. That was the best part of the plot, Owen. He seems to be a really helpful and supportive boyfriend throughout the entire plot until he overhears Anya and Holly J. I think that is a really good dynamic to Anya’s storyline. Holly J v. Owen. It’s happened before with Anya’s boyfriends a few seasons ago when she followed Holly J around everywhere and did everything Holly J wanted. Interesting for the writers to have Owen mention that Anya was Holly J’s little dog because that was a big problem for her a couple of seasons ago when she was first introduced. The cocaine addiction is odd. Not necessarily because it’s unusual but because Anya seems too smart for it. Which I guess is the main message that even the smartest can get so low. And when Bianca questions it, don’t do it. Seriously. I’m interested in seeing where this puts Owen/Anya in the next part and how bad her addiction gets. Really looking forward to her mom’s reaction and who (probably Owen) brings her out of it.
Fiona – I’m kind of done with Fiona/Charlie. Charlie is an isolated character who isn’t really a part of Degrassi and so is automatically less interesting. I was hoping to see Fiona grow as a lesbian while at school in the LGBT community they have there. She doesn’t need to meet everyone because not all gay people meet someone right away, more often than not they are alone to discover themselves for quite some time. The bed bug scenario seemed like just an excuse to get Fiona mad at Charlie. The drama of the plot was for Fiona to realize she doesn’t know much about Charlie and for them to share and get to know each other. It seemed over dramatic and slow paced. Immediately assuming it was Charlie who brought the bed bugs and so being mad at her was a little much and could’ve been brought up in a different way. This doesn’t even seem like a set up for the next part where Fiona and Charlie become a thing and start make out sessions on the couch. I hope in the next part that Mrs. Coyne comes back because I want to see her reaction. Fiona talking to Eli about her love life seems odd considering his best friend was her last boyfriend who she used for his body which is female and he’s transgendered. The writers need to bring that up. All I can hope for is that either Charlie and Fiona end things soon, or that their relationship fades into oblivion and Fiona gets more intense, bigger, better plots like last season; plots that showcase her as an individual.
Connor – Not much happened here. Basically, this plot just showed that he is trying to get over stealing girls’ underwear, but can’t. Alli showing up was predictable (not her but someone). I was disappointed that he didn’t get caught. I’d rather see him deal with the consequences such as apologizing publicly or to each girl individually and returning the underwear personally. That would be funny to watch. It was barely in part 1 so I doubt it will be a big part of part 2.

I hope Clare does not have sex for the wrong reason. I f she lost it with Jake she will regret it. If with Eli, I think that will be worse. He would have harder time of dependence towards Clare. That will be a bigger mess. But I have a feeling Jake might like Alli too.
Anya and the drugs I can actually relate to. But it wee bit unrealistic it takes awhile before the feeling of the coke hits you. I Also I have been where Anya has been and hopfully Owen talks to HJ or Fiona.
Fiona and Charlie~ I feel Fiona is rushing a bit. I know she really like Charlie but I don’t think Charlie is really her type. The wierd thing in the Paper Planes 2 promo. Fiona tells Eli about her and Charlie taking the next step. Why would she tell Eli that . This is something you tell your best friend. Unless they want a third party. LOL. Something Degrassi has not done yet.
i remember I read somewhere there was going to be a forbidden love triangle. I don’t know but it would be hot.

You know, I thought Anya trying coke at the beginning of the episode was realistic and interesting, but then her going back to it after having such a bad experience seems odd. Even so, I hope that the next episode focuses more on her trying to reconcile her relationships, rather than suddenly developing a coke problem. They dropped the ball on the drug addiction storylines with Peter and Craig, but Anya doesn’t seem like the character to fix it with.
Despite all the crap Owen has pulled in the past, I really like that they’re turning him into a regular-guy-sort-of-jerk as opposed to the be-all-end-all-jerk. More of a Spinner, as opposed to a Jay, if you will. Obviously there’s a lot to question why Anya’s with him in the beginning, but by the time Holly J’s talking smack about him, I really wanted to hit Anya upside the head for not defending him. Were she to say to Holly J that Owen was super opposed to her doing coke and the only reason she got an interview at Last Chance U was cause he urged her to call, that might go a long way in changing her mind to at least give him a chance. I did like though that it’s a subtle way of showing how Anya’s not entirely out from Holly J’s thumb, no matter how far the both of them have come. Owen’s really not wrong there, even though he was a regular-boy-jerk for saying so.
I just had to lol completely at Fiona’s storyline since a friend of mine thought she had bedbugs recently. I do like the developing friendship between her and Eli. They’re both kind of weird kids, and it makes a lot of sense.
I don’t know what’s up with this Conner plot. I kind of wish they’d chosen another character to do it with since the connotations now are that he’s got Asperger’s AND he’s a panty-sniffer. But I guess, somehow hidden in there, it came out that what he really wants to do is create Cher’s outfit software from Clueless? MISMATCH! I loved him shoving Alli down and that being the end of it for the episode though. I mean, it’s Alli Bhandari, how did we not hear her bitching about this loudly somewhere?
