Ahhh it’s that time of year again…where we get a new theme song and opening credits. This version is by Alexz Johnson. LOL at the people who thought it was going to be Jessica Tyler singing it. The fact that all Stephen ever tweets about is Degrassi and Alexz should’ve given it away.
My initial reaction to the opening credits? Ehhh it’s ok I guess.
That’s usually my initial reaction every time they change it, lol. I’m sure it’ll grow on me, it always does. It doesn’t really matter though, I don’t watch the show for the 40-second intro.

I personally liked it. It definitely means something that Fiona wasn’t with Holly J and Anya in their caps and gowns. But then again, that could be because they wanted to pair her with Eli so we can see that their going to be friends. At least we know what sparks that friendship – Theater. Which I’m surprised Eli is in, I thought he only did it in When Love Takes Over because of Clare. I guess he had a genuine interest as well.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, Fiona and Eli look like directors while Imogen is a part of the cast of the play. That’s probably how that relationship starts. Oh Eli, meeting girls through Theater/Drama/whatever they call it. ;)

I think a big reason why Fiona isn’t with the girls is that she wont’ be graduating with them. In the second half Sav, HJ, Anya, Chantay, Zane, and Riley need to be cut out of the opening to make room for the new niners.

i think fi fi is by herself without the 3 girls in graduation gowns because remember when lakehurst first came to degrassi it was holly j and anya were bffs and then chantay became their puppy dog.. maybe its a stupid observation but i just thought that could be why, plus sav isnt in a gown ..

I don’t watch the show for the 40 second intro either like Kary says but there’s something about this intro that I just don’t like haha. It’s got some weird techno-ish vibe/thing in the background of the music and the clips of the characters are just kinda strange and awakrd. Also, I’m still wondering if Fitz is in season 11 at all or no? & where’s sadie!? haha but w/e
Lastly, If you pause the video at 00:12, you will lol. and then hit play at pause it at 00:14.

Yea where the hell is fitz?? I’m pretty sure aislinn said in an interview we’d be seeing more of him this season and didn’t they say he wud be in the credits this time??? I like the set up of how the characters r introduced in the beginning this time around but the singer can’t sing for shit… Man and I thought the season 8 singer sounded weird….

Yay~! Fiona and Eli my two favorite characters of this season on the show are going to have scenes together! (Or at least, they have this one scene, but in the Now or Never promo is shows Eli talking to Fiona just before he get’s distracted by ‘the girl in the jeans jacket’ and turns to tall to Imogen, who he thought was Clare.)
But also, did anyone else find it weird that Imogen was half-lying down in this? She looked really awkward, I don’t know… maybe it was just me.
The song I feel is going to grow on me a lot faster than that weird techno season 7/8 one… Ugh. Was that the right season? Whatever it was– this is better by far.

I liked it…although for some reason it felt like there were a trillion more characters than usual becuz there wasnt alot of groups!

I think her style is supposed to be part of her character. Remember her character description?
magnetic look and intense stare–Imogen would hate for anyone to think she’s boring, so she goes to great lengths to stand out from the crowd: bandaging her unwounded wrists, or even posing as a homeless kid to beg for change. She puts on the airs of being an enlightened individual, but it’s a ploy to manipulate those around her. She worries one day someone will discover her secret: she’s a normal kid looking for excitement in her life.

RE: KC and Jenna’s baby: To be fair, my school’s family planning class would totally have a Bring Your Kid to School lunch every once in a while. And also to be fair, I went to a school with an above average amount of pregnant girls (at least for the Midwest!).

I actually like the promo and the diversity. But Munro’s head looked a little big. LOL. I loved Imogen’s leopard ears. I am happy for a few of my favorite characters are together. (Eli and Fiona) (Wesley and Conner). Poor Adam all by himself. I am disapointed with Drew wearing the logo, it should have been Adam. Jenna not wearing here uniform? Maybe Jenna is going to be home schooled.

Im sure itll grow on me too. But I did like seeing how the new characters were worked into the credits. Thats actually one of my favorite parts of a new season with new characters is seeing how they work them in with everything. Marisol in the main credits? Hmm I thought she was just gonna be recurring but I guess not… heres hoping she doesnt turn into another Chantay.

Finally only 24 days until degrassi season 11. The promo was really good. If Marisol was in the promo why wasn’t Mo or Fitz. Thank our Lord Jesus Chantay is graduating. and if Clare isn’t wearing her cross maybe she wants to change up the jewelry. and can you actually bring your baby to school. A little weird.

This is the first time in degrassi history where the logo switched yet the person who wore the logo before is still on the show. Everyone has more time in the promo oh and sadie wasn’t added as a main character the only recurring character who was promoted is Marisol

it is also the first time since season 2 where they didn’t have a video being taken and other than the breaking the fourth wall in season 6 and 7 this is the only time where they didn’t have any previously shot footage so go them making it new

My thoughts:
1. Where are Jess and Sadie? they made such a big deal of them arriving then… never saw them again. I really liked Sadie too!
2. Chantay being there doesn’t bother me nearly as much as it should because… she’s graduating. YES never thought this day would come.
3. The transitions look kind of awkward. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like it’s just a random string of clips from outside the truck to inside for graduation to outside on the bench to inside in the gym…
4. Imogen looks weird. I’ll try not to judge until we meet her though. And Eli and Fiona looked cute at first, but then looking back they look kind of depressed and creepy.
5. For all those people saying Fiona’s not graduating because she was with Eli and not seniors, Sav was with Ms. O, so either she’s leaving or he’s getting a new intro..
6. Sam and Jessica were too funny. hahahhaha with the baby. wait why was it at school? and in heavy winter gear? whatever
7. Didn’t really like Zane and Riley here.. they look unfriendly and we don’t see anything about them being connected at all..
8. I found the ending weird because Dave&Drew aren’t friends.. and I don’t think that Drew is really who should have worn the Degrassi logo at the end but apparently he’s a bigger part of S11 so maybe that will change!

I don’t think they are really friends, more like acquaintances, if you saw The Way We Get By, it seemed like Dave’s only connection to Drew was through KC, which is still weird because during The Boiling Point, I didn’t see Drew and KC at all, Drew was busy hanging out with Connor and Wesley..

This is amazing! The only two things I don’t really like about this is how poppy the song is. I love pop music, don’t get me wrong, it just doesn’t fit Degrassi at all. I loved how last season the opening credits were all up-beat and happy, before the drama started, and then the closing credits were all slow and sad to reflect on the drama in the episode.
Eli and Fiona are two of my favorite characters, but I didn’t like their little apearance in the credits. They were way to still and looked like statues, in my opinion.
But, I love how you could hear loud-guitar playing when they showed Jenna playing the guitar- I’m pretty sure thats the first time Degrassi did anything even similar to that in their opening credits. :)

It looks like everyone in the credits were wearing the same outfits they were wearing in the pictures they just released… Well, except for Marisol, and Bianca’s wearing a jacket over her shirt, but still… I’m stretching this pretty far, huh? Haha…

hmmm. i liked the opening, but the girl singing sounds kind of annoying. but yeah i love fiona & eli interaction and does anyone else feel like anya’s gotten a LOT prettier? but yeah thank the effing lord that chantey is leaving and im glad sav, riley, zane, holly j, etc are leaving too because sav is annoying and has been on way too long, riley’s recycled plot lines have become tiresome, zane never really did anything for me, and holly j used to be such a bitchy amazing character but has turned into kind of a whiney teenage girl. oh yeah and that imogen girl looks really annoying. and she’s kinda painful to look at with that crazy fashion sense. ughhh, but yeah 24 more days!!!!

I liked it! It’s something new and refreshing. I also really liked season 8’s intro. I felt that season’s intro was fun and upbeat. What happened to Tia from Eve and the Ocean and the children’s chorus? That would’ve been a throwback to classic Degrassi. I really like the friendship between Marisol and Katie too. And I really hope Angie Jerimiah comes back in the second half of the season as a freshman! I would love Degrassi even more! ♥

They’re probably gonna have to redo the opening for the second half since they’ll move up a grade because right now they’re in their current grade color uniforms. And it all depends on if Degrassi loses the dress code. Degrassi just isn’t the same with the uniforms. I liked how the COMMUNITY school had the right to wear whatever they wanted.

I don’t think that necessarily will have to be an issue — remember that the second half of Season 10 still showed these characters in their street clothes at the school despite there being a uniform policy.

Plus the people in charge of editing the opening will have to change the scenes of the current seniors to possible new niners. Hopefully the dress code is lifted off Degrassi in the second half!

If they keep the dress code for the second half of the season they probably won’t change the colors for the CLASS, and cycle Blue to being the new Niner color. As it’d be kinda a jerk move to have everyone buy new uniform shirts and replace them after half a year.
If they don’t keep the dress code the new Opening is designed to minimize reshot sections. Only Ms. Oh’s bit would need a reshoot (with new niner(s)), and the Riley/Zane and Holly J/Anya/Chantay bits would be replaced outright. Moving to RED cameras does lessen the impact of reshooting the opening credits but it isn’t really needed to redo everything at the mid-season mark.

So… thoughts.
1. Anyone else notice the Degrassi Junior High-esque guitar counter-melody at around the 0:20 point? It took me quite a few listens to figure out why it sounded familiar, but now it’s all I hear. If that musical reference was intended, Stephen Stohn and the rest of the production team automatically gets 1000 points.
2. This might be my favorite version of the theme song (with the exception of the Jakalope version with vocals AKA the Season 4 version). The synth makes it stand out a bit more and makes it more musically current, and Alexz’s vocals are spot on. I’ve always loved her voice, and it’s nice to see her singing something more upbeat.
3. Speaking of Alexz, this season is a total Instant Star reunion. Alexz is singing the opening theme song, Tyler Kyte is (presumably still) singing the ending theme song, and Cory Lee plays Ms. Oh. I wonder if we can see more Instant Star alumni showing up?
4. What might be throwing everybody off a little about the new scenes is that this is the first set of opening credits to be entirely filmed through their RED digital cameras that they got prior to Season 10 (or at least I assume they were filmed via the RED cameras — they certainly look it). I think the scenes look beautifully shot. Especially with the more inventive camera shots they set up, specifically in regards to the Imogen scene and the Zane/Riley scene.
5. I’m very interested in seeing this Marisol/Katie friendship. Especially if this means Marisol will actually get developed into a fully realized, non-Chantay, non-Hazel type of character. But I’ve already elaborated on that ad nauseum in other posts.
6. The fact that Fiona is grouped with Eli pretty much tells us that she’s not graduating. Someone else argued that Sav is seen with Ms. Oh, but Ms. Oh can easily be filmed with some of the new grade niners in the second half of the season. It’s not as easy to film Imogen and Eli in a different scene without Fiona. It’s doable, but if they intended for Fiona to graduate between the first and second halves, they wouldn’t have put her in the Imogen/Eli scene in the first place. They probably would’ve grouped her with Holly J/Anya/Chantay.
7. Speaking of Chantay, my ‘Taytay is graduating! I knew my beybey had it in her. Maybe we can get her some exclusive university storylines?
8. No Mo or Fitz, but I’m honestly okay with that. However, no Sadie? Maybe in the second half once six (or seven) characters are gone.
9. Justin Kelly is still not doing it for me, considering the character he’s supposed to be portraying. I realize I harp on this all the time, but he just doesn’t look the part. He’s REALLY scrawny.
10. By this point, I really just wanted to have a tenth thing to say to make it even. Uh… Drew still kind of sucks? Maybe he’ll do something interesting this year. Or maybe they’re trying to hint at a Bianca/Owen pairing and we’ll get to see

I’ve adored Alexz Johnson since her days on So Weird and of course when she was on Instant Star. So of course I was stoked to hear she’d be singing the new theme. Not a surprising pick, although I was thinking it could’ve been Cory Lee or Cassie Steele too. But honestly… I’m underwhelmed. This version does a poor job of displaying Alexz’s vocal talent. I’m sure it’ll grow on me, but right now, it’s just meh to me. I think I would’ve preferred the children’s chorus, which would’ve been a total throwback to TNG. As far as the intro itself, I feel like the transitions and clips are so awkward, haha. I kinda cringed and furrowed my eyebrows like “Wtf?” I miss the camcorder motif, bring it back! It looks like my suspicions were right, Marisol has been upgraded to a regular character! Justin Kelly as Jake and Chloe Rose as Katie look great, but immediately something seriously irks me about Imogen, haha. And how is Clare not the one with logo at the end? She wears denim more than anyone!

Well I like the new song a lot but, as seen in an earlier comment, the transitions are a bit sloppy and the clips themselves are really… lethargic. For me, it feels almost uncomfortable to watch. Nevertheless I’m still very excited for season 11 but I am sad/confused a bout a few things.
Sad:
Holly J.’s character went down the tubes since she started dating Declan. She seemed to ave lost all her flare, shes just phasing out into the mist of poorly written plots. Shes become more of a supporting character ever since Declan disappeared, which is no problem because shes graduating but her character is almost pointless now.
I’m really upset to see that Chantay finally got all her credits and is leaving Degreassi forever, never to be seen or heard from again… (not really)
Clare wont get rid of that dreadful jean jacket, moreover she wears it ALL THE DAMN TIME, no Clare, you’re not going to bring it back and it’s not going to catch on, BURN IT NOW!
Shannon (the guy who plays Zane) wasn’t apart of the cast originally, with Holly J and Anya and all, he’s a really great actor and it’s disappointing that his time at Degrassi will be so short-lived.

Ummmm if you didn’t know, Chantay is graduating on time, actually. If she’s a senior now, that means she was in 8th grade in her first season(season 4). Back then, they still had middle schoolers at Degrassi. So yeah, next time think about stuff like that.

I honestly don’t remember reading about Mo in any of the summer episode lists or whatever, so maybe Mo wont be (RE)introduced (since he was in a previous episode with like one line but i don’t remember which scene but i’m pretty sure chantay was in it, if that helps) till degrassi returns AFTER the ‘Now or Never’ Episodes. And is it 100 percent proven that all the seniors will for sure be gone after graduation?? I know emma, manny, and liberty were followed to college probably since they were there from the beginning, but id be nice to follow holly j, riley, zane, and anya for at least the rest of season 11 (it still blows my mind how the ‘seasons’ are in this show since theres such long breaks in between groups of them), although im sure eveyone agrees that chantay needs to leave cause ive hated her ever since she got so damn offended about manny being ‘racist’, like for real i knew chantay would be an annoying b**** after that. Hopefully Marisol will be a character with more depth, but they already made her look pretty dumb when she went on the date with drew, but i must say she looks a lot better this season. I wish they werent so afraid to show ziley together embracing, but then again, degrassi would get flagged by the ‘Florida Family Association’ apprently :/.

Visually, I like the changes. As for the new song itself— it is not bad, but I like the song more ‘upbeat’ and rockish. I really liked last season’s theme.

Emma and Manny were at Degrassi for seasons 1-7 and Chante was in Degrassi seasons 4-10. I think everyone thinks she has been on the show for so long because her character is such a joke and has never had a important or watchable storyline.I also think that Marisol will be another Hazel or Chante. They are the exact same characters(black, cheerleaders, and as far as Hazel and Marisol sidekicks to main characters). If degrassi does develop Marisol into a interesting character I think it would be a really good move.

I think the fact that they show in the TeenNick promo that Marisol is going to come in between Kenna shows that she’s already going to have much more of a storyline than Hazel or Chantay ever did. Because yeah, Chantay got in between Danny and Leia and I guess you can say Ellie got in between Jimmy and Hazel, but those were never real, developed relationships like Kenna’s, haha.

And I don’t even consider Kenna a stand out relationship in my mind, just more so than Danny/Leia and Jimmy/Hazel.

I feel like Luke/Drew needs to do something with the ball at the end besides just hold it, I know that sounds dumb but he should spin it or something it just seems incomplete.

It’s not like it’s been that long, Chantay was supposed to graduate in Season 9, nobody graduated in Season 10.
I was trying to look in the background for some characters because I know sometimes they will sneak in some people towards the front of the camera if they have minor roles (i.e. Kendra from season 2 and Chris from 3-4)
There seemed to be a lot more extras in the opening than there usually is.
Jenna brought her baby to school, lol. And she looks like she’s just randomly strumming the guitar while staring at KC.

Haha I didn’t even know Drew and Dave were even friends. And Jenna actually seems to be strumming with the guitar in the theme song but even then she’s strumming weak and the guitar part in tbe song is strumming hard so it doesn’t really flow that well.

OK what’s with Clare and guys a year older than her? First Eli now the new guy (who’s name I don’t remember neither do I care ECALRE ok done) But the new guy first can drive and wears a red shirt and if you care (like I do for some reason) Yellow= 9th Purple= 10th Red= 11th Blue= 12th…then shouldn’t Chantay have a different color she’s a super senior!

Ok the opening is okay….. imogen looks kinda weird in the promo.. i know she is an actress but…:/ anyway the other thing i did not like about this promo was the interaction between zane and riley….. ive been waiting for them 2 be in a promo and they cant even be shown to have any interaction?? im very upset about that :(
