I’m so glad we’re not gonna have to play the stupid “Will they renew Degrassi?” game for the next 20 months.
Stephen Stohn, Annie, Ray, Charlotte and Munro were at the CTV Upfronts today, and apparently MuchMusic has ordered a 12th Season of Degrassi. Assuming everything stays the same, that means we’ll be getting new episodes of Degrassi through April 2013.
I see Much renewing so early as a good thing. I know Stephen says they usually proceed as if each season is a go as they wait for the official word on their renewal. But now that it’s solidified so early, they can start planning ahead even more…remember they’ve only filmed 1/2 of Now Or Never so far, and they’ve only done readthroughs for half of Season 11’s forty-plus episodes.
With MuchMusic on board, it doesn’t really matter what TeenNick does as far as when/if they renew. Though let’s be honest, it’s not they aren’t going to renew Degrassi (aka the only program they have that actually generates them ratings worth mentioning).
In other news from the CTV Upfronts, Degrassi will be part of CTV Two’s fall lineup. Formerly known as ‘A Channel,’ CTV Two is rebranding itself to include a wide mix of programming. Degrassi will air Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday nights at 7pm. NO they will not be new episodes, they’ll all be re-runs.

I wouldn’t doubt it for a minute. Like kary said degrassi is really the only show that gets teennick it’s ratings. Now that gigantic has been cancelled, it’s the only show on that channel that plays new episodes. The rest are all re runs like what I like about you, h2O, Zoey 101, etc.

Renew basically means like their starting over. Like when they say muchmusic is renewing degrassi they mean they want degrassi on their channel for a whole nother season.

That’s great to hear! Although it doesn’t come as a surprise due to the success of Season 10, and TeenNick will renew the show no doubt. If they didn’t they would be digging their own grave.

The real question here is: will the writers and producers use this to their advantage to plan out longer story arcs that don’t necessarily wrap up until sometime during the 12th season? Sometimes shows do this, sometimes they don’t (I’m looking at you, Glee).

Kary, you forgot to mention MuchMusic only ordered 40 half hour episodes for Season 12.

aside from degrassi, teennick needs to do another station makeover, all the reruns they play suck. they shud bring back Being Eve and 24/7 or atleast shows that ARENT already in heavy rotation on other channels like drake & josh type shows. (that 7o’s show will always stay golden tho). aside from that im surprised teennick hasnt just called it quits & let MTV have first dibs on DTNG, i mean, one show reall isnt enough to keep this channel going for say, another 5 years. especially with it being a PREMIUM channel. degrassi shud be on basic cable IMHO
