Landon is the next Degrassi star to have the best chance at Hollywood success.

I was recently interviwed by fab writer Rebecca Macatee from the gossip site PopEater. We talked about the success of Drake, Nina and Shenae post Degrassi, and which actors on the show now I think have a shot to make it big in Hollywood.

Degrassi fans may LOVE Declan, but Landon is outgrowing the show quicker than any other actor has. He’s been cast in the show “Terra Nova,” which is currently being filmed in Australia…the premiere will air in May 2011 on FOX (an immediate step up from Nina and Shenae’s CW network).
Why didn’t I pick Charlotte Arnold or Melinda Shankar? They’re both two people I think could do well, but I read in an interview that Charlotte likes Toronto, and really has no interest in going to Hollywood. And with the success of “How to be Indie,” I’m not sure of Melinda’s desire to leave that all behind quite yet.
Rebecca and I also talked about which Degrassi actor will be the next breakout star on the show itself. Before leaving the show Shenae and Nina were thrust into the spotlight in Seasons 7 and 8, respectively. While Charlotte Arnold has been the absolute dominant female lead since, I think the next one behind her will be Aislinn Paul. Melinda Shankar comes in at a very close second to me, and she sorta has been already. Both of them have 3 full seasons under their belt. Excluding rare exceptions (aka Jake Epstein and Landon Liboiron), experience is everything.

Congrats! I LOVE your blog and I’m glad you got the interview. You deserve it. :) While there were times that I didn’t fully agree with your reviews, I still think you have a lot of good insight and I enjoy reading/watching your reviews for the episodes! XD And I agree, I’d like to see Asilinn break out like the other Degrassi stars have, Clare is one of my favorite characters(All the Misfits are! :D)…and I knew Landon was being signed for another show, but I didn’t know which one it was. Anyways, I just wanted to comment and say how awesome I think your blog is!

I thought the same thing about Charlotte. She is very talented and seems incredibly smart. But from her interviews she doesn’t seem to have the goals of going to Hollywood.
For me, I could see Melinda Shankar getting something big offered.
Annie Clark just seems next in line after Shenae and Nina.
But Jessica Tyler might surprise us too.
I’d love to see Aislin make it big though.

Speaking as someone with a little bit of a background in journalism, that story is pretty terrible. But it’s awesome that you were interviewed for it. And other than Landon, I would have to pick either Aislinn or Melinda as having the best chance at Hollywood success if they want to venture for that. It really depends on how they do over the next couple of seasons and the storylines they’re given.
And as far as Jessica Tyler goes, that’s doubtful. But hey, stranger things have happened, and she may just grow tremendously as an actor in the next couple of the years.

i totally agree about landon and aislinn, but i think annie clark has a pretty good chance, too. she didnt start acting until a couple years ago, which to me indicates that she’s the one that wanted to, instead of her parents starting her in acting as a little kid, like with aislinn. and to me, that means that she’s pretty dedicated to it as a career. (not to say that aislinn isnt, of course.) and annie’s a great actress, as well as really pretty, and she’s had some heavy and significant storylines lately. so she’s prime material for hollywood, imo.

Although I am glad that all of you are noticing the actresses of Degrassi, don’t get me wrong they are great, but there are 2 people who have not been mentioned that I beleive should be. One is Munro Chambers because he has one of the most interesting characters on the show and if you have seen past works, he can basically do anything. Another is Jordan Todsey. Out of all the actors and actresses on the show she has had the most exposure in both Canada and the United States.She has also proven this year, that she is very versatile actress and leapt whole heartedly into the role she was given. Just thought i would mention that. I knew Landon was going to be huge when i saw him on Wild Rose ( a canadian show) and I’m just glad that Degrassi is at the point where many of the actors and actresses have the potential to cross from Canada to the United States.

Agreed Munro and Jordan display “getting into character” superbly since their characters are some on the more difficult on the show. Added to this list too is Annie Clark.

Lol I also agree! Munro isn’t just a cute/hot face, that boy can ACT. We’ve seen it and I hope to see more of him. And Jordon? What a role to snag and show that she as more then just potiental. :)

Yeah, like I’m not one of those girls who is like ‘Oh my gosh it’s him! I love him! He’s so cute!’ no, i’m one of those girls who likes what people do. Like, I’m the kind of person that likes to see how people do their careers. I agree, Munro Chambers is one of the most interesting characters on the show and he portrays Eli very well. Jordan is awesome! I mean, she tried out for an FTM character on the show. I wouldn’t be brave enough to do that! At all, really! Personally, I think Aisilinn Paul is really great as well, so I like all three of them. And they play best friends in the show so…yah…! :)

Why I left Annie Clark out is that I beleive that the second half of the season is where she is going to shine. I feel that from the exception of the abuse storyline, her character has been given storylines with not enough substance and is the “friend” in alot of the other storylines. Her acting is improving and i think by the end of the season she will definitly be worth watching for.

I would like to just let everyone know, that if you want your Landon fix before terra nova, he is currently on life unexpected. It is quite a shame that this CW show is cancelling because this is the only one on that channel with some sort of substance and they are finally hitting their stride. So check it out because I don’t think we will be seeing Landon again until the end of spring.

I’d love to see Aislinn make a breakout performance
but I think Annie will get there first Lol, we seen what she could do and she got skills ( being drunk, screaming, ect)
Also Jessica Tyler could surprise us though, maybe with a strong after pregnancy storyline…who knows lol

I think Jessica Tyler has definitly improved, but is a long way from a breakout performance. It is evident that she is the least experience actress on this show, but you can also tell that she is a hard worker and is going to acting classes. Maybe in the next couple seasons but right now, their are other actresses who are stronger then her. Does anyone know ither than Alex who’s going to play Sadie, which other new actors or actresses are going to be on the show?

Jordan is just an amazing actress when you’ve been living your life as a girl forever and suddenly your handed a role as the opposite sex…she has handled it well. I was surprised to learn she wasn’t trans because of how much of a great job she was doing.

Point of note: Landon has already been on the CW, he’s playing a part in Life Unexpected for now at least. Which would coincide with his lack of being in S10.

that’s what i meant (regarding landon on life unexpected), but i don’t think that’s the only reason whay he hasn’t been on degrassi. He has also been filming a couple of movies, I beleive. He’s been in about 4 episodes of LUX, and there are only 2 left I beleive. Regarding Jordan, it’s been remarkable to see her go from Life With Dereck to Degrassi, quite different shows and extremely different characters.
