[WARNING: THIS EPISODE REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS]

Umbrella is an episode that has three pretty solid parts for the most part after it’s all said and done.  I’m not going to lie…I was far more interested in Fadam and Dave/Wesley than EClare.  And while I feel myself getting over the EClare honeymoon phase, they did well when it counted.

PLOT A: EClare – Clare continues to deal with her parent’s divorce; What is in Eli’s room?

Random fact: this is the watch that was used to teach Clare how to tell time. Without this watch, Clare wouldn't even know what Hammer Time is.

Clare is still dealing with the fallout from her parents deciding to get a divorce.  Their next move is to sell the house and move on.  Clare feels like she’s losing everything and randomly grabs a gold watch, which she values, from a box and eventually gives it to Eli.  She continues to lose faith in everything (yes, even Jesus Club), but is comforted by Eli, who says he isn’t going anywhere.

Clare meets Eli’s bizarre parents, and after hearing of Clare’s current family troubles they say she can stay at their place.  This conflicts with her current beliefs (since staying with Eli provides the assumption that sex will be involved, and she believes in waiting until marriage), but after a talk with her mom Clare decides she wants to stay the night with Eli.

The problem is Eli doesn’t want her to, so Clare takes it personally.  Now thinking that their relationship is falling apart Clare wants her gold watch back, but Eli refuses.  Clare takes it upon herself (with the help of Adam) go to Eli’s house and get into his room, which has a lock on it.  Adam suggests Clare use the combination “22-04-09” on the lock, and it works.  They discover Eli is a hoarder, and Clare even tries to “help” him by organizing his locker at school, but he immediately freaks out.

It turns out Eli has been hoarding since Julia’s death.  He finally opens up to Clare about this, whose mind is somewhat at ease as her parents have decided to keep the house, and just share a condo…all for Clare’s sake.  And for the moment, EClare has stabilized itself.

Munro fans will find some way to get turned on by this screencap.

I was impressed with how the Eclare plot shifted its focus from Clare’s trouble onto Eli’s so smoothly.  I’m very glad they did this too, because I was completely uninterested in Clare’s part of the plot.  At this point it feels so humdrum because not much has changed. It’s basically the same Clare content (just in a different episode) that we’ve been subjected to for the past couple of weeks.  I hate to say this (because I absolutely adore Aislinn), but I haven’t been impressed by her acting throughout Clare dealing with her parents’ divorce.  It’s easy to sympathize with Clare’s situation, but still Clare’s mental breakdown is flat and unconvincing.

Eli’s, however, is the exact opposite.  The Munro fanatics will be pleased to know that I thought he was fantastic in this episode.  The hoarding aspect was a complete surprise, and him freaking out over Clare organizing his locker was great.  The scene where he explains to Clare his reason for hoarding is the top highlight of this plot.  Eli’s facial expression is disturbing and heartbreaking, yet telling.  A brilliant shot in that scene is when the camera shows his hands shaking; simple, yet effective.

Essentially the Clare stuff was boring, and Eli’s issues saved this plot from diving into mediocre waters.  I’m still luke warm about EClare as a couple.  What could keep me from completely losing interest is when they write the storylines like this…the focus being on Clare and Eli individually as opposed to it being more of a relationship-driven story.

PLOT B: Fadam – Drew and Adam both have a crush on Fiona.

Fiona's lookin like WHOAAAA.....

Oh nothing, Drew and Adam are in the gym preparing stuff for the school’s food drive when in walks the hottness that is Fiona Coyne.

Drew has a crush on her, but so does Adam (who decides to keep it to himself).  Drew uses every aspect of his “A” game to try and woo Fiona, but she’s not interested.  However, Fiona seems to be genuinely interested in Adam, but doesn’t actually say so.  Fiona states that she’s not interested in a physical relationship, which would be PERFECT for Adam, but Drew doesn’t think Adam stands a chance because he’s transgendered.  However, Drew has got it so bad that Adam decides he’s going to help him get Fiona by talking to her.

...and Drew's like DAAAAAAAMN....

When Fiona decides to actually give Drew a chance and they seem to hit it off, Adam gets jealous.  Drew talks to Fiona and realizes that she likes Adam and doesn’t know his secret, so Drew steps aside so Adam can have a shot with her.

I thought the rivalry between Drew and Adam would be more heated than it was, but it still wasn’t bad.  And it’s still good to see the brother/brother interaction.  This is setting up for what could be a much more interesting storyline involving a relationship with Adam and Fiona.  As far as when it comes to Drew, I’m confused.  It’s good that in the end he acted selfless, but he suddenly became that way after being a horndog the entire episode.  The ending seemed slightly forced because as always it’s as if the writers morph Drew’s character to fit whatever mold they need him to be at the moment…if they need a jackass, they make him act like a jerk.  If they want us to love him, they’ll make him go out of his way for his brother.  If they want us to feel sorry for him, they’ll make him walk around feeling all sad with puppy-dog eyes.

...and Adam's like YEAHHHHH..and Jordy's like "Munro's not the only person that can pull off an awesome smirk bitches!"

PLOT C: Dave/Wesley – Dave ditches Wesley to hang out with a cooler group of guys.

Poor wesley. :-(

“I don’t wanna be one of the Three Tenners forever…”

Dave finds a new group of friends to hang out with…the cool, hip kind of clique that he’s been looking for!  The problem is he has no interest in having Wesley tag along, who wants to hang with the group as well.  Dave isn’t afraid to tell Wesley that he isn’t cool enough to hang out with him and his new crew.  On the other hand, Wesley isn’t afraid to tell Dave’s new friends that Dave’s dad is one of the cops that now work at Degrassi.  This makes the guys think Dave will sqeal on them if they do something against the rules, and they refer to him as a Narc.

The only way Dave can get back on the group’s good side is to take something from his dad’s police car, so he ends up grabbing a taser.  They insist that Dave use the taser on Wesley (who just so happened to be walking by), and he does.  Realizing that he went way too far Dave apologizes and gives Wesley the chance to use the taser on him.  Instead, Wesley just gives daves purple nurples and all is forgiven.

In my episode Wesley rips off Dave's nipples, then leaves him there to bleed to death. "Wesley Wins...FATALITY"

Now I think we can all come to the conclusion that Dave is a jackass.  If you thought Alli’s behavior when she’s hyperfocused on popularity is ridiculous, Dave’s is 1000 times worse.  I thought this was going to be just a simple “Gangsta, Gangsta” storyline reboot, but this storyline went further than I ever imagined by having Dave actually use the taser on Wesley.  This plot is good minus the ending, which is WAY too “Happily Ever After” for my taste.  Wesley is the most underrated character on the show and bravo for taking the high road, but at the same time I don’t like that all is instantly forgiven at the end in this case, and Dave tasering Wesley is treated as if it were no big deal.  The least they could’ve done is end this episode with Wesley still mad at Dave.  Geez, in the past Degrassi’s found a way to make less-intense friend squabbles span longer than a couple of episodes.

  1. Kary your great with the reviews. I felt the Adam storyline was the best overall. I really want 2see how the Adam & Fiona story will end up. I also want 2see how Dave’s decisions will affect him. As for Eli, I thought he would be more affected from almost being stabbed but we just have 2see. Does anyone kno if Fitz will return for this season?

  2. This episode was fantastic (Umbrella Part 2). I don’t care what anyone says, I think It was the best episode in season 10 thus far. Munro Chambers did an excellent job and so did Aislinn Paul. The way he reacted when he saw his locker was so real, I felt like he really got into character. All I can say is that I loved this episode so much.

Thanks for creating this site Kary, I love it. Keep the reviews coming and I’ll keep reading them.

    1. Oh and I’m really glad that Dave and Wesley are friends again. Wesley seems like the type of friend you’ll have for life, one that will always be there. Fiona and Adam definitely work to me, but I wonder how she’ll take his secret. It was obvious in the second half of the episode that she didn’t know. I can’t wait for nexr weeks episode. Great job degrassi writers, this episode was beautifully written.

    2. Part 2 is definitely my favorite episode from season 10. I personally thought that the ending was perfect with Clare and Eli in his room just cleaning out his stuff, and I’m glad Wesley didn’t shoot Dave because I don’t think that that would be something Wesley would do. But I think that Dave should have ditched those basketball guys. Also, this episode made me like Fadam. I disagree with Kary’s review; I thought this episode was so much better than solid.

      1. I have to disagree with you on the ending. I thought this episode was phenomenal, and I totally agree that it was the best of season 10 so far. But the end was deeply problematic. It suggests that you can overcome compulsive behavior just because someone you love is there for you and helping you…. As though it were that simple. IT’S NOT…. And it upsets me that they gave the whole matter such a convenient little ending.

      2. @Alice but we have to take into account that Eli has only been hoarding for just over a year so its not as though this is something he has lived with his entire life. He remembers what its like to throw away things without thinking and even though it would be extremely difficult for him to just revert back to it he has more of a motivation because he can see himself being the way he was he has an actual goal to work toward. I did feel however that the focus on just throwing out the single binder was effective it would have been silly if they had has his entire room clean because thats not realistic.

      3. @Holland — Yes, you generally make a good point … but as someone who has struggled with compulsive disorders, I can say that even when it hasn’t been your whole life and even when you can remember what it was like to not have to fulfill that compulsion, it takes A LOT more than one inspirational/supportive conversation to start to let go of those things. I guess the binder thing was ok as narrative construct .. but I’m hoping that the matter isn’t just closed, you know? Like, I hope that we at least get references to his hoarding and hints at the notion that he’s still working on it, down the line. … P.S. Kom je uit Nederland? … or is Holland just a name?

      4. @Alice- You also make a great point. And I totally get where your coming from. I also agree whole heartedly with you that they should keep the issue going. It would be so stupid to drop it and act like it was just all fixed. And unfortunately no… not from Holland i’m actually Irish…its a last name :P but do you speak dutch?

        Like

      5. @Holland – Well, I’ve been thinking about it, and I’m just going to hold out and give them the benefit of the doubt — trusting that they’ll do this gracefully. The way they set the whole thing up and depicted the experience of this sort of disorder (that last scene aside) was pretty pitch perfect. So I have hope that they’ll manage to carry it on, in some way.
Regarding the Dutch. Yeah, I speak it. My first language is actually Polish but my boyfriend is Dutch and I’ve picked it up from him over the last 3+ years. It’s a hideous language… but I have a soft spot for it :)
On another note, I don’t know what it is about Kary’s blog, but everyone here is so respectful and friendly towards one another. Such a nice change from what you see on most fansites. It’s delightful!

      6. @Alice I can see what you mean, and they should definitely keep this going, but I think that they needed him to atleast throw away a binder to show change. And like he said earlier in the episode, he really, really wanted to change, and I think that Eli has been working at changing for a while. But I’m sure it really helped to have Clare there with him. =]

  3. Wow, I’m surprised you were as generous as you were with the Dave plot! I personally thought it was pretty awful. There was no buildup to Dave wanting to make new friends, and the the casual attitude with which the taser scene was handled was RIDICULOUS. The last scene with the two of them wrestling was super cute, but not appropriate given the fact that Dave could have killed a little shrimp like Wes. I wish we’d seen some sort of consequence, but it looks like everything will be all hunky-dory between the two of them, and this will all be forgotten about.

The Adam plot was boring. Just a crush plot. But I’m interested to see where it goes…

I don’t mind the EClare overload so much, just because for the most part, their episodes are not relationship-driven (like Holly J/Declan episodes from season 9), but issue-driven. In my opinion, watching how issues like divorce, or the death of a loved one affect a relationship, is much more interesting than the guy not being able to say “I love you” (like in Keep On Loving You). I hate Eli’s dad, though…he just seems so cartoonish and out of place on this show.

    1. I completely agree about the Dave plot. I thought it was terrible, and just cemented what a horrible friend Dave is. I bet if his new “friends” stayed around he never would have apologized at all. :/ Pathetic…I can’t believe this is the guy who was getting on Alli’s case for wanting to be cool last season. At least SHE never tased her friends!

    2. Dave has been aiming for popularity ever since he appeared on the show… even his promo for season 9 when he was introduced was about him being the big guy on campus. And the whole reason why the three teners even existed was because dave wanted to be more popular and wesley thought they could if they made a band, so really there is build up to it.

      1. I’m not saying he hasn’t, but he used to be a pretty decent guy who, despite wanting to be popular, also knew how to sit back and have a fun, DORKY time. In short, he had morals. The Dave of Season 9 would never have done what Season 10’s Dave did to Wesley. He might have been sorry, but Wes forgave him WAY too easily.

    3. I agree that he forgave him too easily. Tasing someone is really dangerous and he could have been seriously hurt. If I was Wesley, I would never want to talk to Dave again. I couldn’t believe they just had the two of them laugh it off like that.

I’ve gotta say that Claire’s acting hasn’t been up to par in the last few episodes, but Eli’s acting might be evening that out a bit…
Despite all of that, I just love the plot!

The commercial for part 2 made me think Eli was hiding a dead body in his room or something… Lol!

The plot with drew, Adam, and Fiona is great. I think they all did a good job. I must disagree with what Kary said about this plot. It was just perfect and I loved it (although at one point when Adam got angry at Fiona it seemed like it was his time of the month or something… :s)! 6. Kary. I agree with you 99.8% on the Wesley/Dave plot… i do so because Wesley wouldn’t really have any friends (besides Connor) if he didn’t have Dave, but Connor and Dave are still friends, so Wesley would have to be with Dave anyway, if he wanted friends… so i guess they made it their obligation to remold their friendship.

But, an interesting storyline would be Wesley hanging with Connor and Connor has to help rebuild his and Dave’s friendship… or does that sound familiar? (Danger Zone; when Connor has to help KC and Clare become friends again!)

  7. I thought this episode was a lot better than many this season so far though I wish they’d return to just having an A plot then a B plot because often the third, less important, plot makes no sense for the first part of the episode. The best example was the Chantay/Anya one from earlier this season.
I think Munro is a great actor, much better than many on the show currently and from the past but I do think that they need to lay off the Eli/Clare storylines for the next few episodes. I love them together but it’s obvious the writers are trying to appeal to the legions of fans they have which is nice but the show is supposed to be about different characters. Where has Zane and Riley been this season? What happened to Connor? By handling EVERY LITTLE DETAIL of Eclare’s relationship, it makes other ongoing story’s seem weak.
If we get an Eclare story every episode or every other episode, they’ll quickly run out of storylines for them and start throwing in absurd plots that’ll forever ruin the couple as being one of Degrassi’s best.

    1. These episodes were written and filmed before season 10 started airing…So, no, they weren’t appealing to anybody by writing them together. And there hasn’t been an overload of them, either; this is their first A plot all season, and they haven’t had that many B plots, either. We’ve seen a lot of Holly J, Jenna, the Three Tenners, and others, too. It just feels like a lot because we’ve seen them for four episodes. But they’ve been ignored for four + episodes at a time, too.

Also, why are you surprised that Connor was ignored “for Eclare”? Eclare was the A plot this week. Degrassi has ALWAYS focused mainly on the A plot, sacrificing lots of details in the other plots. THIS IS NOTHING NEW. It’s not Eclare’s fault.

      2. I don’t think your comments relate to her post. I’m pretty sure she’s talking about Connor’s character as an example and in general as well as most of the other character’s absence on the show due to having Eclare every week. I don’t see her comment saying anything about Degrassi is now focusing mainly on the A plot. She’s talking about the Eclare plot itself and how they are so focused on that.

@ Lindsay and Sarah: Oh blow yourself. I love Eli and Clare’s characters (and think they are a good pairing) and I’m not a “new” fan who doesn’t get the gist of things, but it is quite noticeable how much they whore Eclare.

It’s one thing to focus on a couple petty issues for a couple episodes (not all A plots) but they are wasting so many major story lines on them at such a quick pace that it’s kind of getting old.

There are other characters that could be focused on (see: CONNOR as ninaheika exemplified). Not Connor being involved with Clare and Eli because, despite what you seem to think, the show isn’t ALL about Clare and Eli.

    2. @ The other Sarah:

It does relate, because when she mentioned Connor, she was talking about the “other ongoing [stories].” In other words, she was questioning why Connor was not present in the ongoing storyline about his two best friends. Yes, she also mentioned the characters’ absences from the show in general, but that wasn’t what she was mentioning at that moment. And that part of her comment was the one that I disagreed the most with and thus chose to focus on.

      1. I wasn’t talking about Connor in respect to his other friends, I just mean that there are a lot of characters who just don’t get any attention at all some seasons in favor of others. This has been an ongoing thing with Degrassi though but it kind of leaves other characters forgotten. Do I like Eclare better than Connor? Yes, but that’s not good writing.
And I’m not new to Degrassi. I’ve been watching since 2001 (I’m old, guys) and have watched Degrassi Junior High and all of the older seasons as well. I’m no expert and I’m not saying I know everything about the show or am even insulting the show. It’s my favorite show but they do have issues at times, that’s all. Yes, I know the A plot is the main point of the story (that’s not what I was contesting) but Degrassi hasn’t always had an A, B, and C plot and I was just saying it’s better if they stick to two. It’s a half hour show, they can only fit so much without certain story lines being shafted and looking sloppy. I also realize you’re correct about Eclare being in the last four episodes but not so much at the start but what I really meant is they are focusing very heavily on every aspect of their relationship which takes away from the show’s continuity in dealing with issues. Why four episodes in a row when two of those episodes could focus on other characters?
Also, they were filming the season we are watching now as the Boiling Point was airing, they had plenty of times to rewrite and add Eclare story lines. If producers see that’s what fans are responding to, they’re more than willing to sacrifice integrity and continuity in lieu of Eclare fans tuning in for ratings.

      2. Also, to your “It’s not Eclare’s fault.” I wasn’t blaming them. You do know they’re fictional characters, right? Hence my use of “writers”? Just checking.

    3. Remember that all of the episodes are spread into two parts this season. Degrassi almost always has a B-plot focused on something the episode before it becomes the A-plot in the next episode. So EClare’s Love Lockdown B-plot was supposed to lead up to their Umbrella A-plot.
Look at it the way you’re supposed to.
      They’re not forgetting anyone.
Plus, Connor, Zane and Riley had enough screentime in the Boiling Point when Riley came out 8 times, Zane stood by and watched, and Connor kept playing that World of Warcraft game – almost enough screentime to make me wonder why they had NOTHING to do with All Falls Down.

      1. Clare and Eli’s storylines in The Boiling Point: Her laser eye surgery, their being paired up as writing partners, the numerous episodes dedicated to Eli and Fitz’s fued, their project leading up to him revealing how his girlfriend died. Yeah, I’d say the Boiling Point gave them their fair share as well.
And no, Degrassi doesn’t “almost always” have a B plot that leads up to an A plot. That’s just THIS season so don’t say “always”. If you go by Degrassi’s history, Spinner’s erection B plot never got an A plot, though it probably should have. JT and Spinner’s feud in Season 3 was a B plot, that never got an A plot. They haven’t always done it that way. And most of the time they don’t. I’m not looking at the season wrong, this isn’t some inception crap you have down. A new format of the show doesn’t make up for unfair writing.

  8. Great review as always.
I, as well, was surprised how high you rated the Dave plot. I found it lacking. This is the second time Dave has gone against his “real” friends, and I still haven’t seen any repercussions to what he did. I just found the plot unconvincing and just plain boring.

The Adam Plot was a bit better. Jordy’s acting has improved much more since she began. I even think she overshadowed Luke’s acting. His facial expressions just bug me. I’m interested to find more about this plot and how would Fiona find out and react when she finds out about Adam.

The Eclare plot line- well, lets just say i didn’t enjoy it as much as I would’ve liked to (excluding the last episode) I felt in all the drama, both Munro and Aislinn lost some of their spark.

However, In my opinion, both Munro and Aislinn’s acting was much better in Part 2. They were both a little bit controlled and normal. Their scenes were flowing together smoothly. I felt like there was nothing forced in their acting and I forgot i was watching two people act. I was so in tune with their emotions. It reminded me of why I loved eclare in the first place. They both have amazing chemistry and really surprised me in the second part. Umbrella (2) was by far the best episode in season 10. At least, that’s how I feel.

It was fun to watch them because they had good chemistry and as much as I love Eclare these last few episodes it doesnt feel the same. Personally, I think it’s the storylines. Clare’s parents just confirmed that they were getting a divorce and Eli’s a hoarder now, so I think they felt the need to give Eclare a more “serious” feel for the last three epsodes. Because now that they’re together as a couple and their personal problems have reached a new level in severity, they needed to be there for each other. But now that the drama is over for now, I have feeling that when we see them again it’ll be back to their normal banter.

      2. of course its not hte same!! dont you guys remember that clare felt like thier relationship was on rocks and possible going to end. they were supposed to make us feel like this so it seems more realistic

        Like

    2. No I understand that and I realize now what I was trying to convey earlier. I think what made thier chemistry work was how easy thier banter seemed. And if you see them interviewed together its the same sort of relationship. This heavy hearted stuff (for me at least) isnt the same because this seems more forced. Its not working as weel because they have to try to hard for it. Now I will be the first to admit that they have some good strong heart felt moments together but when they play a couple both in traumatic situations where they are both in some way shape or form dealing with things what make them more emotional they just don’t have that chemistry because they are both so focused on the emotions not how they come across as a couple dealing with there emotions, does that even remotely make sense?

      1. I wholeheartedly agree with you about their banter being a lot more believable than some of their more emotional moments. I can only assume that they’ll just get better at these kinds of scenes with their acting as they get more used to it but their banter and fun moments are a lot better acted so far.

      2. I disagree I think that they are just getting stronger through the indevidual stuff. The spark is still there but that’s not what this episode focused on. It wasn’t about spark but about indevidual issues affecting the realtionship. Do u expect them to kakeout every two minutes or flirt all the time they are a couple now they aren’t going to continue to have that new interest flirting. 10. whoa, idk bout anyone else.. but Umbrella definatley goes on my top 5 favorite Degrassi episodes. it was great. and i wasn’t uninterested in Clares plot AT ALL. Family Divorce? its something fresh for degrassi and it was great to watch. Fadam was very good, and heck even Daves C-plot turned out very good for a change.

    1. No I think Holly J and Sav are the main plot. Jenna is B but Sav is just involved and then Wes and Anya. So Holly J and Jenna are 2 different plots and Sav is just entertwined with both. I dont know that just what I kind of got from the promo.

  19. Awesome review, I agree with pretty much everything you said, especially about Aislinn. I adore her too but I her acting in the last couple episodes didn’t impress me either. I thought I was the only one who thought that. :S I thought she did really well in this episode though. And Munro’s acting in this episode was great, very believable!
Wesley should just ditch Dave, what an awful friend he is.
I don’t know if I’m excited about the Adam/Fiona story line. I don’t know if I will like it. I guess I’ll just watch and then decide.
Anyway I really liked the episode! :)

I really wanna see Eli and Clare ‘do it’. It would make their relationship better. :). Does anybody know any sites where I can see spoilers for the next season?

I though there preformance was good like.. a big B+. :))

  23. I liked Umbrella Part 2. I feel like Eclare could have been better, and it surprised me that Munro’s character is a hoarder, but I wish that Degrassi would let go of the “julia” act. I hate that they keep brining Eli’s ex back up, like all of ELi’s troubles, like hoarding, revolve around julia, but truth is, a lot of factors go into stuff like that.

    1. ECLARE was okay. I don’t like how Clare is now thinking about having sex with Eli, I mean I understand her parents are going through a divorce, but its sad to see all of her beliefs/morals/convictions go out the window. I loved clare because she was different, her goodness made her special, so its sad to see that go.

Annie Clark is in my opinion, the best actress on the show. With that said, it doesn’t mean I’m always interested in her plots, but I have a lot of respect for her as an actress, she is a really strong actress. With everything Fiona went through with Bobby who was super agressive, its no surprise that Fiona would go for Adam. I feel Adam is exactly what fiona needs in this point of her life.

I was happy that wesley forgave dave. Is dave an asshole? Yes he is. Did he deserve to be forgiven? No he didn’t. Lucky for Dave, wesley is the greatest friend anyone could ever have. This plot, really shows the goodness in wesley, and it stole my heart.

      1. I totally agree with the Clare and her religion thing. I would however like to see them heat up you know. All thier kisses are so slow and sweet but they havent had one with any passion, I would like there to be a deciding moment you know…when things go almost too far and then she pulls back because she realizes that this isnt what she wants.

I just think thier kisses are always too sweet which is really nice to see because you can totally tell that they really care for each other but they are teenagers…not all kisses are gonna be like that:P

Also in regards to the Wesley and Dave thing… Dave even says “You’re a good guy Wes, a good guy.” At least Dave knows that he really doesnt deserve a friend like Wes you know?

  26. The first time Eclare hasn’t gotten an A rating? Shocking. Especially because I think this is one of the best episodes in the season yet. I’ll admit, I’m totally behind Eclare, but Munro’s acting was phenomenal.
Maybe you’re just annoyed with the “Eclare overload”(even though this is their first A-plot) so that affected the rating as opposed to when they were just getting together. Honestly, I think it deserves AT LEAST an A-.

And I’m surprised you gave Dave and Wesley a B. Dave is a jerk and tries to hand out with the cooler, older kids and Wesely forgives him. Hello, JT and Toby? It’s practically the same plot.

But Dave/Wesley scoring higher than both Eclare and Fadam/Drew? Oh no no no.

    /end rant.

    1. As I said in my review the Clare-centric stuff was boring, while the Eli-centric stuff was great. In other words EClare in Umbrella Pt. 2 was A material, but Pt. 1 would’ve gotten maybe a C- at best (that’s how uninteresting it was and how disappointed I was in Aislinn’s acting that Part…and this is coming from someone who LOVES Aislinn).

In the most simple of terms I thought Wesley/Dave’s plot was more interesting as a whole than Eclare or Fadam/Drew as a whole. And I’m not exactly sure what Wesley/Dave’s plot being like JT/Toby’s has to do with anything…how many storylines in Seasons 7, 8, 9 and 10 are variations of plots that the original cast did? And how many of the plots in Degrassi: The Next Generation are remakes of plots from Degrassi Junior High/Degrassi High? Too many to count.

  28. Sadly, I’m losing interst in Degrassi. I started watching the UK Verison of Skins online. It is amazing, and now I’m addicted to it. So everyone should watch it, I think it has more issues than degrassi.
Also I would love degrassi to have a storyline where two people are fighting and one person pulls out acid and throws it on the other person. I saw it on the news and I thought Degrassi would have another “go there” storyline if they did that.

    2. Skins is amazing, but mostly because it’s everything Degrassi avoids. I love Degrassi because it’s so clean-cut and moral-driven, and I love Skins because it’s so crude and dirty. They’re such different shows, other than the fact that they’re about a large group of friends in high school.
As for the acid plot, that sounds a bit too graphic O.o I wouldn’t want to see someone’s face melting off on Teen Nick ):

Just a funny coincedence since Degrassi probably taped this a long time ago and South Park starts putting together a new episode a week before they air.

  30. Well Eclaire is what a lot of people want to see so of course the directors are gonna give the audience what they want. I don’t think its so bad how much they’ve shown them because it will eventually taper off. They normally do focus on a couple when they first start dating. Before this season Claire hadn’t really had much of camera time. They hardly focused on her and kc at all. It was mostly Alli. And since Eli is a new character I think its only fair that they get this time. Because I’m pretty sure after this episode its not gonna be so focused on them anymore, every one is going to be interest in Fadam. And a lot episodes will be about them.
And also the rivalry between Holly j and Jenna. They haven’t really showed holly j and Sav have a talk about it so I’m sure its coming up. The Dave and Wesley crap is just pointless to me, but I disagree with Kary a bout the happy ending stuff. I think it’s just an opening to show how nice of a person Wesley is and how easily he allows people to walk all over him. I don’t think Dave will ever give up on being popular. And also I don’t think Claire’s character went over board abut the break up. She was raised in a christian family and they told her that divorce is bad and sex before marriage is bad and blah blah. I can see that Claire was a sheltered child before, but now she’s transforming into an individual. There’s a point in almost every teens life where they go from thinking their parents are perfect and know everything and have everything figured out to realizing there are times that they are just as lost as you and they don’t even know the correct way to live life you just gotta kind find happiness on your own and do what you need to, to be happy. It’s a transformation, that’s why teens act so ridiculous and go through weird phases they’re trying to figure out who they are and what they want their life to be like. I went through a very big transformation in high school. So in my opinion Claire handled it in her own way, shes had such a simple sheltered life and then it falls to pieces which would cause her to question everything. She’s starting to realize that life’s not as black and white as she thought.

I think the writers should show a couple that actually lasts throughout Highschool since that actually happens.
