–Now, for the episodes to watch this week! Continuing with the Season 10 theme, one of the things people are speculating about in the upcoming season is the possibility of a suicide. Degrassi has dealt with suicide once in the history of the series…
If you’ve never gotten a chance to watch Degrassi Junior High/Degrassi High, you’re missing out. It gets better (and deals with more intense issues) with each passing season. The acting (and clothing) are extremely cheesy, but the way it tackles teen issues blows Degrassi: TNG out of the water 9 out of 10 times.
Degrassi High dealt with suicide in one of the last episodes of the series, “Showtime.” Claude is suffering from depression (and recites a very dark, Ashley Kerwin-esque at his audition for the school talent show).
Feeling like there’s no way out, Claude kills himself. The rest of the episode is dedicated to the aftermath of his suicide, focusing primarily on Caitlin and Snake…they’re both traumatized by what happened, but for two completely different reasons.

I’m confused. The actor playing the transgender is a girl, and in Degrassi, she is originally a boy but feels like a girl? Right? It’s so damn confusing, especially on top of the fact that the actor playing the new gay character has a girl’s name.

My guess for why they cast a girl in the role is because right now she can pull off playing a boy. But eventually Adam will become a woman.

Or, she could be a boy in a girl’s body. I have a transgendered friend and she is biologically a girl. Over the past few years, she has changed her name/told others to call her by a male name and has considered taking testosterone. Many of her friends refer to her as “him” or “he” and her girlfriend refers to her as her “boyfriend”. She typically dresses as a man does and acts very much like a dude.
It is completely possible that Adam is similar.

IF THEY DO PLAN ON FINISHING UP THE SHOW SOON , I AT LEAST HOPE IT’S WHEN CLARE’S CLASS GRADUATES

I do not think it will be the last season. But it will more then likely go on a long break after this many episodes. Because you can’t really introduce all these new characters then cancel the show. And atleast for Teennick it is the most viewed show. So I’m sure it won’t be the last.

Adam – Is Drew’s Step-Brother. (I was correct, Adam will start off as a male character and change into a female).
Drew – Drew’s grades are not so good. ( Alli tutoring him maybe?)
Eli – He drives a hearse to school. ( So Eli is like some type of goth character. Maybe that’s what the death card meant).
Fitz – He might have a thing for smart girls. (This explains the Fitz and Eli fight. I guess Eli and Clare like each other and Fitz likes her too so he starts threatening and attacking Eli. This will possible lead to a school lockdown).

I still can’t grasp the concept of a girl playing a boy. It just makes zero sense to me. But I find it interesting that Adam and Drew are related. Since Drew planned on blackmailing Riley for the position of quarterback, who knows what he’ll do with Adam’s problems. If Adam has problems…so confusing. Plus, it webs stories together and that’s always nice!
Also, nice catch with the possibility of Alli tutoring Drew. That could give him an excuse to go over he rhouse like he did in the Every Degrassi Episode Ever promo.

Sometimes, a girl is used to play a guy, but this time is not the case. Jordan is playing a FTM transgendered person i.e. the character is biologically FEMALE, but identifies as MALE.

ARGGHH!! people adam is obvously a girl wanting to be a guy!! in the promo she/he is in the bathroom WITH GUYS. and in the shark in the water thing she looks in the mirror and is dressed in girl clothes, symbolizing her true self.

You are 100% right. I would say that in the promo, the character wants to escape his biological self and is also afraid of people seeing his biological self. The Boiling Point promo “Secrets” hints that Drew knows that Adam is biologically female. The reason they refer to Adam as Drew’s stepbrother is because they are respecting Adam’s identity. The character Adam does not see himself as Drew’s stepSISTER.

No offense, but Adam is biologically female, but identifies as male. They are calling Adam Drew’s stepbrother because Adam identifies as male. They are showing respect to the character’s identity as a male.

since jorden todosey plays Adam. a transgender (originally a boy), I think that Adam will later beecome a female. if Adam stayed a transgendered boy, then they would’ve casted a male for the role. but, they need a female to play a female. hint.

Actually, if there were going to have a male-to-female transgender character, they may have chosen a male for the role as to be more realistic. The character is actually female-to-male. That is why they chose this actress.

A TRANSGENDER DOESN’T HAVE TO BE A MALE TURNED FEMALES. A TRANSGENDER IS EITHER SEX, WHETHER IT’S A BOY TO A GIRL OR A GIRL TO A BOY. WHEN I FIRST SAW THE PICTURE OF ADAM, I REALLY THOUGHT THAT WAS A BOY. IT WASN’T UNTIL SOMEONE POINTED OUT THAT THAT WAS LIZZIE FROM LIFE WITH DEREK THAT I TOOK NOTICE. MAYBE ADAM PLAYS A BOY WITH VERY STRONG FEMALE TENDENCIES OR JUST LONGS TO BE A FEMALE.
IF ADAM IS IN FACT A TRANSGENDER, I HOPE THEY HAVE AN EPISODE THAT SHOWS THE HISTORY OF WHY HE/SHE WANTED THE CHANGE.

Here’s the thing with Adam, everyone seems to beleive that he will be changing into a girl. What I beleive is that she is a girl who has been raised as a boy, which has happened quite a few times in the world. Where babies are beleived to be one gender and then later when they are going through puberty they realize their another, they actually have one extra y or x chromosome ( I beleive). I think it happens more to girls than boys though. But that’s what I beleive their take on the character is. That’s why he is seeing a girl in the mirror at the funhouse, showing him who he really is. I’m surprised no series has actually dug further into this issue, so I’m really excited to see how this plays out, Adam for sure will be a very dynmaic character.

You are talking about an intersexed person. The character is supposed to be biologically/genetically female, but identifies as male. So, unfortunately, they are not doing an intersexed character this time around. However, I will say that it is possible that Jenna is actually intersexed since they hint that she has a secret that she doesn’t know.

I really hope that Adam is physically a girl. It wouldn’t make sense to me to pick the actor as the gender the character has after they become transgendered. That wouldn’t really accurately reflect how it happens. (i.e. a girl decides to become a boy) This is especially true because I highly doubt that Adam has a sex change operation. I don’t know the exact laws, but I believe it is very difficult to get the operation while a minor, nevermind the difficulty in explaining it to your parents.

I’m glad it made sense to someone. I think it’s a little bit difficult to describe/explain these things, but I think that something would a bit odd about casting for the post-sex change.

I’m glad we finally know what gender she is playing.
I thought she was playing a guy all along, but I’m just happy because people won’t be getting into big arguments about it anymore. Lol. =]
Also, if they do decide to have a suicide on Degrassi this season, or any death, I’m nervous to see who it is. I hope they don’t kill off one of the new characters, just because they are new, but I would be really sad if they were to kill off an older character too. I guess we’ll just have to see how it plays out.

The name Adam itself, the male clothing, and being a step-brother would all obviously support the idea of calling Adam a “he” or “him.”
Referring to Adam as a “she” would only reveal that he is transgendered for sure, which is appearently a big secret for now. Adam is still very confusing :P
Also, if someone did die at the lockdown, can we confirm that it isn’t Alli or K.C. since their tweets say or hint that they’re on set? Maybe we can use their tweets to tell who definitely is still alive if someone died.

Uhm…When I said I’m glad we finally know what gender Adam is, I meant that we knew what Adam is as of now. I mean, I’m not saying that he did or didn’t go from girl to boy, or won’t be going to girl…But, if you read the interview, Jordan said, “….and I truly enjoy portraying HIM.”
So…what I meant was that I’m glad that we finally know what he’s going by.
I don’t see how I got a thumbs down for that…but ok..Lol.
And yeah, Holiday, that’s a good idea to read the tweets. Haha. Then we could slowly eliminate characters from who may die..=P

yeah, i hope they dont kill any1 new either. i personally hope that there will be a cast member who is not in the opening credits and doesn’t have a star role (like rick) and that person dies, that way, we wont miss any1. but at my sister’s school, a boy died his 2nd month there. maybe leah dies, since she leaves halfway through the series.

okay, i watch every episode of Degrassi: TNG. So i was so excited about season 10, that i couldn’t wait. So i started to watch Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High. Well, I love it. You are right Kary with the cheesy clothes and acting, but they go over a lot of intense issues. Right now i’m on “Black and White” and i’m trying finish the whole seris. I love most of the issues. My favorite episodes are, “Stage Fright” “Food For Thought” and “He’s Back.” I was wondering Kary, Which Degrassi Junior High/ Degrassi High is your favorite episode. Also I wish Degrassi: TNG covers epilepsy like they did in “Stage Fright.” :)

I would think Adam is female and wishes to be male. But then again, the promo shows him looking into the mirrors and seeing himself as female. So it’s pretty confusing, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Drew seems to be the new “bad boy”. I think he’ll be great, him blackmailing Riley has me interested in what other evil things he’ll be up too. He’s like a male Jenna.
I think if anyone dies it would probably be Leia since Judy is leaving after the first 24 episodes.
Anyway, I hope this season is great. I was let down with S9 as well as S8, but S10 looks like it’ll make up for both. ;)

I actually never had a problem with Leia. I actually liked her character, mostly because I could relate to her (with 1 little bit, but nothing else) and I had done that like 2 months before I saw that episode.

I’m a little sick of people saying someone is going to die. This gets said every time we head into a new season. It’s getting very old. Until it is confirmed that someone will die, I suggest leaving it be. We don’t have to keep bringing it up on EVERY post.
And, I know this will get a lot of thumbs downs but I don’t care. I’ve been coming to this blog for a long time. I can handle that.

The death rumors actually make sense this season. If you watch the official promo, in one scene Claire is telling Eli’s fortune and she draws a “Lovers” card and then a “Death” card. Eli supposedly drives a hearse to school (hinting that he has a fascination with “death”), so that could be the answer. But it could also be something more…

I’m just throwing out ideas here, but my assumption with the whole ‘drives a hearse to school thing’ is more of a metaphor for the ‘death’ thing. Kary raised good points with the Degrassi High situation, which I just watched, pretty good by the way. Anyways, I have a feelig it will be another prediciment like that one and the hearse will pretty much be a dead Eli. Think about it.

Think about it though. The writer’s are not going to kill off someone that the audience won’t have much of an emotional connection to. Also, I’m not the only one who knows that the promo’s are always misleading. Remember the Fiona one when she said Declan helped keep the guys off of her? When did that happen? It didn’t. When did Holly J run for prom queen, etc like she said she would in the promos for last season? She didn’t.
I’m not saying Eli won’t attempt suicide in the school. I just think, unlike Claude, that Eli will be unsuccessful. I think he might cause himself some type of permanent damage, but I just don’t think that he will die.
I guess it was ignorant of me to say you guys couldn’t talk about it. You are allowed to speculate. It just gets old. I’ve heard this same thing since Season 2. The death plotline, It’s played out.

Ok, so wait because we see the tarrot card that says death and Eli is sporting a whole goth look, this means he is all dark and depressed and will commit suicide. Why repeat something they have already done? Since they have done this in degrassi high, wouldn’t it be soemone more unexpected? Someone who has friends but is dealing with personal issues that year, if it is Eli, it would be a shame, because Degrassi is known for being out of the box and I hope they continue in tradition.

ok. im just a 12 year old boy who got hooked on degrassi in s7. here’s what i think’ll happen…….
Alli is the NEW Manny. She had sex and regreted it, but will make the mistake again. I expect a good storyline from her this season.
Claire is te NEW Emma. Her storyline with Eli (The Male Elli. Eli Elli, Eli Elli. See any pattern?) will DEFINATLEY be good. But, I can’t stop thinking what Alli will think of Eli. Maybe Claire and Alli will stop being friends because of him , (Like Emma/Damien/Manny in s7) I just hope for the best.
Drew. I don’t like Drew. He takes advantage of Alli, and blackmails Riley. My 2 favorite characters. My friend went through the same thing that Riley went through, so I know how hard it is for him.
Riley and Zane are awesome. If they break-up, I will be soooo sad. I hope it’s not because of Drew.
Adam. I think I will enjoy Adam. His plot will probably be really open and emotional. But, in the promo, he is in the car with Bianca and Sav. How did he get himself in so much trouble?
Bianca is totally good looking. I hope she steals K.C from Jenna (behind the scenes carnival video gives us a hint) . She was a total letdown. Maybe Bianca will be the ‘He’s mine. You might as well not even try’ girl. Degrassi needs one of those.
K.C. is gonna be bad again. I think him and Eli will fight over Claire. Maybe even Fitz and Eli, cause Fitz likes smart girls.
Holly J/ Declan. More Drama. I don’t think they will have such a big plot this season. Maybe they will, but IDK.
Fiona was a b****. This season, I’m starting to like her. I feel so bad looking into her eyes.
Leah and Chante. Pointless. I blame the screen writers.
Peter will be the new dot guy.
Sav used to be my favorite. I have a feeling, that I will love Anya and hatre Sav at the end of the season.
IDK what’s going on in the lockdown. Maybe Chante, maybe Eli. IDK. I just hope for the best. :)

Personally, I really don’t understand why we have ANOTHER boyfriend stealer(Bianca), I thought Jenna already had that covered. I’m not really looking for relationship drama unless it’s good, like the Alli & Johnny STD story last season. But the whole “You stole my man!” and “Do you love me?” plots have been done to death.

I’m also hoping Bianca isn’t a real boyfriend stealer and steals K.C. because K.C. is cute and all, but it makes him seem like every girl wants him. It would just ruin his character.

i have no doubt that Adam is, to everyone else, male. Which i then assume means that he finds that he has the mind of a girl, but is physically male.

Jordan calls him a guy because he is female-to-male. Using male pronouns for an FTM shows respect. If Adam was male-to-female, she would refer to him using female pronouns. Adam is presenting himself as male (his true identity) and that is why is seen as male to everyone else.

I don’t know if anyone has ever seen Life with Derek it’s a canadian show that they give on Disney Channel, mostly every actor from Life with Derek has been on that show Casey’s ex-boyfriend (beginning of degrassi), Derek (Starred in Degrassi goes to Hollywood), Nora (Plays Declan/Fiona’s mother) and now Casey’s sister known now as Adam. (Jordan Todosey)
