Shanks and Shannon
Yeah I know the rest of the info in this post is late, but I decided to wait since now is an appropriate time to introduce Shannon Kook-Chun (click here to visit his twitter), who will be making his Degarassi debut in this episode. He’s playing Riley’s love interest, Zane Park.
Zane is already confirmed for Season 10, so hopefully we’ll have two solid gay characters next season.

Cory Lee (from Instant Star) will be a new teacher in Season 10. Her twitter is here.
To me, it’s very interesting that they’re adding a teacher to the cast. With each passing season, the teachers (yes, even Snake to an extent) have become less and less involved in the show, which is sad. My hope is that Snake becomes Principal (FINALLY), and she’s given the role of the cool and caring teacher.

I think the new cast sounds…random, useless, and dissappointing.
1. I don’t see how they can build a good, credible, and sustainable character out of the boyfriend of a barely present character. I also don’t see why they would want to.
2. I kind of hope SNake doesn’t become principal. The return of Mrs. Harzilakos this season would be odd if she immediately left again.
3. I don’t really see the need for more random character, as we are still trying to get rid of the deadweight of Blue, Leia, etc.
In addition, we haven’t seen enough of the new MAIN charaacters and still aren’t that familiar with Fiona or Jenna.

I could see Cory Lee being either a nice young teacher that understands the students and helps them with their personal issues as well or a teacher that flirts too much with the male students, which could cause some problems if it went too far.

We don’t know that for sure. They just got that assumption because the homepage of Teennick has them on it, and for the last episode, it had Sav and Anya, which is the subplot for that episode.

1)Three fave eps: Beat It, Shoot To Thrill, Innocent When You Dream.
2)Least favorite eps: Just Cant Get Enough, Waiting For A Girl Like You, Holiday Road.
3)Characters I’m enjoying: Alli (Shanks is doing some great acting this season), Holly J (She’s matured since Season 8. I’m glad she’s dropped the overly bitchy “Queen B” act), and Dave (He’s funny and interesting enough to make subplots entertaining).
4)There’s really not a character that I just outright dislike this season. The closest might be Sav…he’s getting on my nerves because all throughout the season he’s been acting like a total jerk toward Anya.

I really think they should focus on all the present characters instead of bringing in new ones. I liked all the original characters way more because I knew a lot more about them. The new episodes are a lot different then the older episodes. In my opinion halfway through season 6 Degrassi changed completely :/. They should also put the original song back and try to keep it classic, I don’t like the whole Janie and the Studs version.

Its different for me. I like these characters because I don’t know that much about them. Their characters can be taken to more places that way.When you have the blanks you have to think where is the story going next and really who they are.Adding in new characters is good because its like real life. People come into your life that change things for you. It happened like that at my school.I think having all the same people next season would not be as exciting.Just my opinion.

Do you think Zane counts as “one of the new 4”? (same goes for Cory Lee)
When I first heard 4 new characters for season 10 I imagined 4 never seen student main characters (like season 9).
So if that’s true we have: Zane, “Cory Lee”, Drew, “New Girl”, “Unknown new girl”.
And we’re only losing Bruce, Johnny, Manny, Leia (half way through), and probably Emma and Jane. SO the cast will still be a little too large for my liking.

YES. Studz was pretty cool. Janie and the Studs featuring Peter Stone is literally the stupidest thing. House arrest honestly sucks and the video is extremely corny. I thought the latest episode of Degrassi was terrible.

So, Season 10 confirmed characters are: Holly J, Sav, Anya, Riley, Fiona, Declan, Chantay, Peter, K.C., Clare, Connor, Alli, Dave, Jenna, Drew, Leia (only the first 24 episodes), Zane, Cory Lee’s Character, The New girl in the Twitpic, and Mr. Simpson.
That makes 20 characters so far. We still have no clue about Blue, Jane, Etc.
Johnny is most likely done. So is Bruce. Maybe Danny.
With 20 characters so far, they could actually focus more on the characters in Season 10. 20 is 4 less than the main 24 of Season 9.
Our 4 New Characters are: Zane Park, Drew (Also in a Twitpic), Cory Lee’s Character, and the other girl in the Twitpic.

he definitely counts as a “new” character. by new character, they mean a new person in the opening credits. remember, we saw Clare a few times before she became a star, and she still counted as a new character.

I’m really glad that Riley is finally getting an episode that doesn’t involve him debating on his sexuality, because I feel as though they stretched that on for a long, long time. I kinda always suspected this kind of episode anyway, even though Riley clearly said he wasn’t coming out in high school.
Nonetheless, the introduction of new characters need to stop. What they should have done is just kept everything as is and never introduced someone if they weren’t going to have an important storyline later. Lea for example, she ended up being Danny’s girlfriend, but it felt like that only happened because Danny was the only single one. She never really had a definite future. But I’m ranting now, and I’ll end with this: There has to be a gay kiss in the next episode.
