This evening I had the honor of being a part of Degrassi’s latest live chat event, this time with Producer/Actor Stefan Brogren and Writer Ramona Barckert. What makes this one different than the ones with actors is Ramona and Stefan could go deeper into the technical/decision-making aspects of the show, since they’re heavily involved in the production process.

Kary, you and the panelists asked good questions. I had to leave before I saw the last 15 minutes so I will rewatch. I like how Stefan said there is no plan to end the show and it should continue for many years. If and when it ever ends he thought the school could blow up. I think they would probably have a fire. ……I was hoping someone would ask about “Wheels.” The actor who played him died in real life and they could have worked that in the storyline so Principal Simpson would feel extra depressed and need the students help to pull out of it. Still his comments about putting the emphasis on todays students and storylines has merit.

So basically, we’re never getting any type of reunion show. They did bring up valid points that it would be very hard to reunite the cast, especially with most of them moving on to other projects, but I wish they gave me more hope they’d at least consider it in the future. I’d love to see what was up with Craig, Ellie, Spinner (hopefully he left Emma for Paige), Marco, Manny and Jay.
Actually, for the 12 people who might still care, I’d much prefer a reunion with the original Degrassi characters. Bring back Spike, Caitlin, Joey, Lucy, Liz, the twins, Simon, Alexa, Michelle, BLT, Yik and my girl Tessa Campanelli. They could all return home for Nancy’s funeral. The beyotch finally gets what was coming to her!

Scotty, consider me to be 1 of the 12. LOL. I miss Spike and Caitlin and Joey. I like how they were on for a season or 2 together. I just wish they would write that the character “Wheels” died. He did in real life and it was a sad tragedy. If they could put that in the show it would get Principal Snake Simpson depressed, and for once the students would have to help him out of his funk.

Ugh, I guess this means we won’t get a quick throwaway line about Spemma’s divorce…
I wish I would have submitted the question that has been burning in my mind for a long time: do the writers have favorite characters and does that affect the amount of screentime that they and others get?

Kary, you and others feel free to answer. I’m hoping they use Dave’s dad, Officer Turner, in subsequent episodes this season. Dave tells Eli his dad sees tragedy but doesn’t bring it home with him. I think both Principal Simpson and Officer Turner should be counseling and advising Eli about how to live on and handle and get through this tragedy.
