This news was reported yesterday, but Toronto.com and other websites announced that Chaz Bono, son of Cher who is transgender, will be appearing on Degrassi during Season 12:
***************
Bono appears as a judge on a battle of the bands contest that involves Adam’s group, WhisperHug. Adam spots Bono and approaches him to talk about girl troubles, and the struggles of gaining acceptance as a transgender teen.

Normally I hate, and I mean absolutely HATE celebrity cameos on Degrassi. Their appearances are nothing but fluffy crap that add nothing to the show. But I’m absolutely loving the idea of Chaz appearing because he immediately relates to one of the show’s characters (Adam). Hopefully Chaz’s cameo takes full advantage of the opportunity to connect even more with transgender teens who watch this show and relate to what he and Adam have gone through, or are going through now.

Now we all knew it wouldn’t be long before Degrassi decided to create yet another band on the show, but who would’ve guessed it’d be this random collection of Degrassians? The band WhisperHug is made up of Adam, Imogen, Mo, Zig and Maya. They were all filming scenes with Chaz the other day, so the episode he’s featured in won’t air until this fall. Hopefully the show will make any songs they’ve made available quickly via social media or something…you know, something like this:

A mock tweet of of Adam releasing WhisperHug’s song on twitter…let’s hope Abby Ho does so this fall!!

Love this idea! I know some of the cast, including Jordy, met him in LA. Degrassi is so progressive dealing with LGBT issues, this is one more gold star for the show.

Really another band? Do they always need to have one? The only thing I’m down to is Downtown Sasquatch.

Well there hasn’t been a band since season 9 so I guess it’s about time for another.

I’m actually excited for this band!

I think it would have made more sense to have Drew be the drummer for this band instead of Imogen because we already know about his drumming skills from an earlier episode.

Adam, and Maya can understand, but Imogen, Zig, and Mo? Since when did they play instruments? I’m somewhat surprised they’re bringing Mo and Imogen into this since they’re the seniors. Looks like they may or may not be recurring characters for season 13 depends on what happens to the band the following year.

I’m actually excited for this band cause it seems like the show will use the band to focus on personal issues rather than boring band issues.

Maybe they’ll sing a song about Fiona’s ever expanding waistline. Anyone else notice she’s gotten pretty damn fat. ENORMOUS

Fat? Are you kidding me?
While I agree that Fiona has gotten bigger, I think she’s beautiful right now. Just the right size for my tastes. :)

Annie is a perfectly healthy weight. Women naturally gain weight in their late teens and twenties, it’s part of the body getting ready to children at some point. Annie has grown up since coming on Degrassi and is still just as beautiful as ever.
Please realize that comments like that are why healthy women start believing they have to look like underfed models.

Tisk Tisk.I disagree. I see more and more girls being obese or very thick and thinking it’s sexy. It’s wonderful to feel comfortable in your own body, to be confident. However, as American’s (and Canadian’s) in general, we are becoming accustomed to high BMI’s and forgetting that it’s not healthy for ones body. Being stick thin isn’t, either, but higher BMI’s lead to many health issues, like heart concerns and diabetes, to name a few. Telling teens and young women that it’s okay to be overweight is both irresponsible and wrong. I think people should really tone down telling women (and men) that their overweight bodies are a-ok, simply because we want them to feel confident in their bodies. We are giving them false assurances and dismissing the real problem…their health.
She has indeed gained a lot of weight and yes, she’s still beautiful, but making rude comments about girls being too thin is just as damaging as making comments about girls being overweight! You are such a hypocrite. You’re all “let’s make girls feel good about their weights…being overweight ok!” (I’m going to go ahead and assume you are?). So, as you said, .please realize that comments like that are why naturally thin girls feel like they have to gain weight. How dare you make such a comment…do you not see your complete lack of tact? You are basically saying that it’s okay for girls to be thick, overweight, even fat. BUT, if someone is naturally THIN (which there are sooooo many girls who are) you just made them feel like crap by referring to them as “underfed models”. Not everyone who is thin is anorexic or bulimic and not every person who is overweight feels good about their bodies, irregardless of comments by people like you who say “hey, it’s okay, go eat more than you should, get diabetes and die a premature death!! At least you’ll be like more than half of American’s, now! You’re beautiful JUST the way you are! Heart disease and all!”. Yeah. Not so much.
I’m a behavioral therapist and it’s people like you who I get in my office at the end of the end of the day. You go through life preaching to others but every breath you take is full of hypocrisy. If you don’t have an issue with overweight girls, please refrain from talking down regarding underweight or healthy weight girls. Believe it or not, it’s not “cool” to be overweight, even though you can’t go ANYWHERE without seeing more overweight than healthy weight people. Next time you’re out (this is an exercise I have clients do) count how many people are clinically overweight. Count how many, out of say 30, are a clinically healthy weight. Trust me, the percentage of overweight people will stand at about 81%. Underweight, usually about 3%.
Still wanna preach about how people are fine the way they are? Being healthy is great…being overweight isn’t. It’s as bad as smoking or anything else but if she was smoking on this show, I doubt you’d say “oh, it’s okay, she’s fine the way she is! Let her smoke if she wants! It’s people like you who make smokers feel bad about themselves! waaaah”. What people SHOULD be doing is complimenting women’s MINDS, their beliefs, their dreams…we SHOULD be giving them honest information about boys, sex and the reality of hurt and breakups. We should be giving them all the tools they need so that they can be comfortable in their own skin, yes, but also have the confidence to want to have a healthy body weight. Your comments don’t achieve that so I’m sorry but you’re far from assisting anyone with your know-it-all-without-crap-for-education-regarding-it post.

Alcoholism can easily cause weight gain when one quits drinking because addicts usually eat more often than before, as Fiona did. Annie Clark obviously is so dedicated to her role that she did this in real life. She is the best ever.
