I’m not sure why, but there seems to be some confusion among the land about whether or not Degrassi’s returning this Fall, or in 2012. Well as of now, they’ve only filmed a handful out of the 16 episodes left after Now or Never. They’ve been on a filming hiatus for a while now, and they’re not going to start filming again until October.
You can’t really air things if you don’t have anything to air.
Much Music has unveiled its Fall lineup of new and returning shows, and Degrassi returning as a block of episodes is nowhere to be found on the list. HOWEVER, their press release confirms a one-hour Degrassi special that will air in October:

Though Much posted this, we can all assume TeenNick will air the special as well…I mean what else will the have this Fall, Gigantic reruns? lol
SIDE NOTE: For Canadian fans….Starting September 5th, Degrassi reruns will be playing Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7pm on CTV Two.

Sounds like a standalone Halloween episode like they’ve done in the past.
I’m fine with this, although it will kinda suck to wait until late January or early February for new episodes. The only good part of delaying the second half of the season is that they *should* air without any breaks between episodes. If they start the first Friday in February, that takes them right to the end of May. They may take a week or 2 off though due to the Easter holiday, which isn’t as bad as 3 months between episodes. (At least with the summer season, things are kind of wrapped up for the most part.)

Clearly this will be a non-canonical event. Here’s the way I see the final 16 episodes being aired: 1130/1131-Feb. 10 1132-February 17 1133-February 24 1134-March 2 1135-March 9 1136-March 16 1137-March 23 1138-March 30 1139-April 6 1140-April 13 1141-April 20 1142-April 27 1143-May 4 1144-May 11 1145-May 18

I have a feeling they may show the 1 special they filmed because it does say…”School may not be out in October,”. Why else would they mention school not being out unless it was the summer special they filmed a few weeks back.
Anyways I’m still laughing at the Gigantic reruns XD
Teennick seriously should get like the same people who make Pretty Little Liars or The Vampire Diaries or Glee or something to make a good original show for them. They just need those good writers to make something not half bad (like Gigantic) and it might actually pick up with the right advertising.

When is Highland Gardens expected to be released? (I assume TN will be picking up this series as well.)
They should just air the “90’s Are All That” block during the times Degrassi used to take up on the schedule over Fall.

So far there’s no date for Highland Gardens (and I’m assuming as well TN will pick it up XD)
Also they should air the 90’s block int he Degrassi slot. That would be best and people might actually come and watch if they can tweak their lineup to NIck @ Nite levels where it’s pretty entertaining at any time.

They need more shows on TN. They keep repeating the same shows and I doubt viewer retention sticks around for the 12th rerun of that horrible H20 show.
Even if it’s not brand new programming (which they should always work on), showing the 90’s Nick block during primetime viewing (8-10), would definitely add more eyeballs to the network at prime viewing hours. They have outstanding ratings during the overnight block, so I imagine those numbers would rise and be higher than any of the repeats they air now, save for Degrassi.
I also think they should do some sort of “Greek” show, with an older 20-something cast, perhaps aiming for an older demo than just the 12-17 age range. Yes, it’s TeenNick, but that doesn’t mean they can’t gear programming towards young adults as well.

I hope Highland Gardens is worth the hiatus. I don’t think we’ve ever had to wait this long for new Degrassi, and that’s sort of killing me, haha. At least we’ll have this special to hold us over until the new year. So should I assume that this special is separate from S11? Or do you think it might be canon?

It’s probably a Halloween special. Before reading the comments, what came to mind was possibly a episode about the 2011 summer in October, then the rest of the 16 episodes will air as a new chapter sort of like In Too Deep and will be set as the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year.
It’s either that or it’s not going to be canon. I know for a fact that if 1130-1131 depict the school year, then they won’t be coming until 2012, because the article that announced Maya (or Tori, not sure which) said that you will see her in episodes beginning in 2012. With the extra episodes for Now or Never (as opposed to The Boiling Point), instead of doing a fall-chapter and another chapter like In Too Deep, it makes sense that they will just merge them into a chapter like In Too Deep premiering in February 2012.
The more I think about it, the more I want that to come true. Make Bleeding Love an episode set during the summer and that would be the final appearance of all of the seniors before college and have that episode air randomly in October as a special, then start the next school year as a new chapter (probably with a name like In Too Deep) in February and have that run into May.

I feel like it’ll be another “Curse of Degrassi” or “Degrassi: Monster Moon” or “Degrassi of the Dead” type thing. Maybe they go out Trick-or-Treating and Drew keeps getting afraid he’ll get jumped? Or Bianca handing out drugs as Halloween candy?
And lol. I am just too happy that Gigantic was cancelled.

Lol. Gigantic got cancelled. Funny. TeenNick really does need new shows though. I think if they get @ least 3 other original that they would be ok. The 90s block are perfect but they should only air good shows (Kenan&Kel, GUTS, Double Dare, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Hey Arnold, All That, Doug etc.) We dnt need Clarissa.lol.
