Thoughts on the Sweet 16/upcoming Elite 8 round….
Two of the Sweet 16 matchups ended differently than I thought…how did Palex lose to Spinner/Jane? The LEAKED division is a very weak, yet very bizarre bracket. So much that Dr. Chris/Anya are one game away from the Final Four. There’s no way they would’ve made it this far in any of the other divisions.
I was surprised that Sellie beat Crash. Sellie will give EClare it’s closest matchup yet. This matchup as well as the Semma vs. Dolly J matchup will be a huge indicator as to which generation of Degrassi fans are voting in this poll (it’ll be evident moreso from the Semma vs. Dolly J one).
Parcy had yet another convincing win, this time against Sparcy. They’ve been silent, but deady all throughout the tournament. But Riley/Zane is the couple in the tourney with the hottest streak. We can all assume that the winner of that matchup is going against EClare in the Final Four….I just don’t see either of them having enough of a following to take down the Goliath.

With the Semma vs. Dolly J. matchup, the generation has nothing to do with it. I’ve been watching the since the beginning, but I’ve never really been a big Sean/Emma fan, so I voted for Holly J./Declan.

Eclare vs. sellie….thats a toughie. both couples managed to bond on emotional levels and not just lust (despite sean telling ellie he thought she was cute). most couples on this show havent been able to do that. im on the fence with this one…. i will not vote this one.

these are getting to be SO HARD! the hardest for me was dolly j vs. semma.. semma had so much history, but i really saw so much chemistry between dolly j. in the end, i picked semma.

nah, lots of people are tired of them. I’m more annoyed by the fan girls who are all “wahhh, the writers are being so mean by not giving them a happily ever after. And why is Clare turned off by Eli being an over protective psycho? I think it’s cute!”

True the fan girls are really annoying at times, but what’s more annoying to me are the people that chug the hatorade 24/7! I think most of them just hate the fangirls rather than the couple itself. I really like Eclare, and like some people said, I like how the writers are giving a realistic ending and giving the relationship flaws instead of this perfect unrealistic Edward/Bella couple. And who knows? It’s more than likely that they’ll probably get back together next season (we might have another Sanya couple on our hands lol)

To be honest, a lot of times for me the difference between quitely disliking something and overtly hating something is hype.
So while I do like the storyline, and I do think that people shouldn’t confuse their annoyance for the fangirls with the actual storyline, I can see where the haters are coming from.
And not to nitpick, but my problem with Edward isn’t that he’s a fantasy, but that he’s a bad fantasy, you know? He’s not perfect in the sense that he’s a creepy over protective stalker, but he’s presented as someone who is perfect. He idealizes something really bad.
Which again is why I appreciate the direction Eclare is going in. And yeah, maybe this won’t be the end of them. Maybe the next storyline is where Eli actually deals with whatever he needs to deal with. Who knows?

I like it because its a nice ride. I had no delusion they would be together forever. The start of the relationship had a proper build, a nice multi-ep set-up that there was something there. It’ll also probably self-destruct in the most spectacular way over the course of probably only two episodes.
The fans who thing they are a perfect romance is where my problem lies. No teen romance is perfect, Eli is heavily troubled, and Clare’s not emotionally set-up for what her relationship really entails. I seriously hope this relationship is a giant troll against Twilight fans about how protective possessive boys are a bad thing.
I hope they put a bit more time into prepping relationships in the coming seasons so other characters can have some tension to the prep like Eclare had. Solly J, Ziley, and even Dr. Chranya had some foundation work to set them up, even if it wasn’t at the level of Eclare.

Yeah, while I do think they have too much screentime and it would be nice to see some of the other characters, I like that it’s well written. And I hope that the EClare storyline is undoing some of the damage done by Twilight by showing young girls that this overprotective territorial bullshit isn’t cute.

Still bothered that Palex lost against Spane, haha. How can anyone root for a couple where the girl CHEATED and intended to get away with it? I don’t understanddddd mannnnn. I guess they have a bigger following than I thought?
How the HELL did Dr. Chris/Anya make it this far? LOL, seriously, that relationship hasn’t even happened yet; they went on one flipping date for Christ’s sake.

dr.chris/anya went against all the suckiest couples/shippera, that’s why lol. jay/emma lmfao come on. manny/spinner was more of a lustful relationship and they were just thrown together . dr.chris/anya has more depth than them. ellie/jimmy, never shipped them and ellie didn’t return his feelings.jimmy’s crush on her was kinda random as well

I don’t think Jimmy’s crush was random at all; they connected through art. He even said she “inspires” him or whatever it was. I like that she showed him that there’s more to life than what he originally envisioned (Ie. Basketball isn’t the only thing he can do with his life). I think if Ellie wasn’t so hopelessly hung up on Craig, she would’ve given Jimmy a chance. But you’re right, Dr. Chris/Anya are 10000x better than those other couples, haha.

I know, Palex was robbed! I think it’s probably because there’s a lot of younger/newer fan watching and they probably don’t really know about Palex as much as Spane. I’m still pissed that Dolly J beat Fadam; so I keep voting against them. lol

I also really enjoyed the Palex storyline and honestly, I’m surprised that Fadam got as far as it did (out in the first round, but was neck to neck with Dolly J). Considering how Adam and Fiona were never boyfriend and girlfriend for an entire half hour episode without breaking up or one of them suggesting that they stop hanging out, they are a really popular and well liked couple.

I was hopping that Fadam would go farther because people really like them (mainly because Adam is in the relationship and everyone loves him and wants him to have a gf) but they caught a bad break going against Dolly J.
Spane beating Palex confuses me. Palex had such a huge fanbase and to this day, peiple still wish they had worked out. Although, Spinner and Jane were spitting images of each other (just opposite sex), they lost a lot of steam near the end. Whatever, they won’t be Semma or Dolly J so they won’t win.

I agree about Palex. They’re by far my favourite couple to have ever been on the show, and were one of the few couples of Degrassi to take practically a whole season before they got together. I also liked how they didn’t lose their personalities once together, as in their differences continued to test them and eventually broke them apart. For me, they were one of the most powerful couples of Degrassi. It’s too bad they lost to Spane.

Personally I just never liked Alex’s character and I always felt like her being a lesbian came out of nowhere. I mean she went from being with Jay and his crew to all of a sudden being in love with Paige. Paige’s inability to fully commit Alex also started to drive me crazy after a while.
I agree though that it’s insane that Dr Chris and Anya made it this far considering the two of them only really had one episode devoted to their relationship

Nah man, it was not all of a sudden. Alex and Paige worked for awhile together at the theatre, and after the shooting, Alex chose to separate herself from Jay and that bad crowd and spent more time with Marco, Paige, etc. I think they definitely built up Palex appropriately. Moreover, I think just like Paige, Alex didn’t see gender and loved her for who she was. Personally, I don’t believe love knows gender.

i’m sure the fact that some people haven’t seen palex contributed to spane winning, but i’m also sure that the 61% wasn’t purely new viewers. some people really did like spinner and jane, or more likely some people really disliked alex and paige. i fall into both of those categories haha :)

If Anya/Dr. Chris win the entire thing that would be crazy. But rooting for Spane to win only because Spinner has been my favorite character on Degrassi forever. But couples who I actually like are Zane/Riley, Peter/Darcy and Sean/Ellie who had a deep connection. Never really liked Semma together. Dolly J was boring (extremely boring). EClare is interesting but starting to become like Dolly J. Dr. Chris/Anya is kinda shallow and perverse. Just my thoughts

It will probably be Semma vs Spane and EClare vs Ziley, ending with Semma vs Eclare and idk who would win (although I would love ti see Ziley win it all).

Eclare is totally gonna beat Sellie, but at least my favorite couple got this far. Ha, Chris/Anya getting this far is hilarious. And it looks like Ziley is facing Eclare in the final four, sounds epic.

I do think that we should consider that just because Dolly J wins doesn’t mean more new fans are voting.
I have loved both generations (Sellie is my favorite). But I also love Dolly J and Eclare. I’ve just never cared for Semma, even though I know most people favor them.

I’m not a big Semma fan, and it doing so well annoys me as its one of the couples that had both no fire and no sense. Sean was paired with Emma because Emma was the main character of the show and Sean was hot. There was barely any showing of why they wanted each other aside from that. It was also a couple that ended on a sour note in that S5 Sean was painful to watch.
I do wish I could be voting Solly J instead of Dolly J. This is a preference based on Holly J’s character (including what didn’t suck of S7). She’s more humanized with a total dork than she ever was with Declan. Declan represents everything Bitch Queen of the World heir to Heather’s name Holly J wanted. Holly J’s underhanded and cruel ideas would be SUPPORTED by Declan instead of shown as evil by him. Sav (in the same line as her two good past romantic desires, Spin and Toby) humanizes her by being overall a good dork. Closer to Earth and a relaxing influence for her. But at least Dolly J had more fire than Semma.
Now, oddly, the only pairing I had to think about with voting was Eclare or Sellie. Sellie suffers a little of the same way Semma does, in that the pairing doesn’t make sense from a full on objective view. However my memories of Sellie moments are a lot happier, with both sides supporting each other (instead of the one sided Semma deal). Which while it isn’t the usual fire of teen couples, it worked for them. And with Sellie my memories aren’t marred by S5 Sean. They are however hurt by S7’s backpeddal about if Sellie did it (which I always assumed they did, safely, and thus it was a non-issue to bring up). Much like we never had a Spane sex plot because the two have enough sense to use protection (and no condom is too large for Spinner). However S7 was a problem all around so I tend to ignore it. Eclare for all the faults the couple has is one of the few times they put effort into building the relationship compared to every Sean and Craig relationship being built on showing girls staring at them for five minutes drooling with camera effects to explain ‘everyone thinks Sean or Craig is hot.’
Spane was an easy vote to pick because Spinner needs to get into the Final Four. I voted Zane/Riley over Parcy because I like Eclare they put a good amount of prep into Ziley and (mostly for Zane’s acting) it paid off.

Just curious. Did you see the beginning of how Semma came to be? It was so much more than a superficial thing. I think you really saw why they liked each other. Emma made Sean want to be better and actually care about school and other things.
And with Dolly J, I feel like Holly J got to be herself with him. Sav? Not so much. This is a watered down version of Holly J. And now Sav/Holly J is a superficial couple. Or at least started out that way. Plus, they are predictable. But, they aren’t in the running anymore so….

I have to disagree with you about Semma. I think back and remember how completely psycho Emma was when they first met, and I feel like Sean not only accepted her, but brought her down to earth. In Sean’s case, Emma redeemed him in so many ways and always made him want to be a better person. I think they always balanced each other out nicely. I think that was the main problem with Spane. They were practically the same person, which lead to Jane getting too comfortable and bored with the relationship, which lead to her ultimately cheating. I still voted for them though because Spinner is the ultimate boyfriend of Degrassi, and he was so good to her.
I definitely agree with you about preferring Savvy J over Dolly J. I originally rooted for Dolly J, but that relationship had its time and it needed to end for both their sakes. Now I’m all for Savvy J, although it still bothers me how superficial it all was in the beginning. I just really love that Sav allows Holly J to be her own woman; I feel like that still being independent while in a relationship is one of the most important things about being with someone.
Oh, and Sellie never did it. In Season 6, Ellie admits this when she talks to Ashley about possibly having sex with Jesse.

I’ll just respond to both here at once.
Yes I saw the start of Semma but it still didn’t feel… I’m not sure how to put it. They did both like each other, but they rarely hit on any reason why they did. Other than Sean putting up with many of Emma’s crazy soapbox rants and ideas. When they became a relationship all the fire in it kinda vanished and they turned into a sitcom married couple where the wife is nagging and constantly right no matter how unright she is. I mean, when Sean broke up with Emma in Season 3 I was all for it. She wasn’t with him, she was using him, whatever like they might’ve shared earlier in the series was lost in a sea of scenes that showed no care at all between them.
Of course a big part of this might just be how much room the show had to write the cast, as the rules were stricter for the early seasons compared to how they are now.
When it comes to Holly J she’s herself with whoever she’s dating, the difference is if they enable her bitchy side or bring her a bit more closer to a moral human being. Decs is charming and cute, but he hardly takes away Holly J’s elitist attitude. He definitely counts as enabling it. Sav however is a wonderful dork that does the opposite. Also I think their casual relationship is a good thing, these are teenagers, its a healthy attitude to accept the end will come eventually.
As to my comment about Sellie and sex, that was a fact added in Season six. Well outside the window of the relationship itself, I’m not sure why they added that fact (which I do accept as part of the show, I just don’t like it). It could be they just wanted to do that plot, could be they needed another educational moment. I like it when characters on the show have sex but nothing untoward happens from it, because in reality sex doesn’t always lead to babies or social diseases.

Spinner&Jane were great together before she cheated on him and kept it a secret. But I’m not voting for Anya and the Doctor.
Declan and Holly J had a sweet love story and I felt like she could be the real Holly J with a bit of bitchy confidence yet still sweet.
Eclare vs Sellie. Damn. I love both but Sellie is my all time favorite.
I find Zane and Riley to be kinda boring a lot of the time. IDK why. But I hated what happened to Ellie’s character in season 5 when she began crushing on Craig.

Her crush on Craig, was the worest thing to ever happen to Ellie and her charecter. They have great chemistry, but Ellie was so unbearble when she was around him. On another note, Ellie was perfect with Sean they evened each other out. I’m slowly begining to really dislike, these Eclare fangirls especially if Eclare beats Sellie which will probably occur.

Ok I have seen every episode of degrassi so I know about ever single couple that qualified. I gotta tell u tho as much as I enjoyed the old degrassi Im REALLY enjoying the new degrassi. I’m finding that I wanna vote for the newer couples. So yea just puttin that out there cuz alot of ppl r saying newer couples r winning becuz there’s alot of new comers to degrassi and I kinda agree with that but there r ppl out there who have seen the older degrassi but prefer the newer degrassi.

At first I really liked Ziley, but now i find them extremely boring. I am really upset they winning against Parcy. Parcy is my second favorite couple and they were much more interesting than Ziley. Also, I never really liked Semma, I liked Sean with Ellie more and I don’t really like emma’s character. Dolly j however is my favorite couple, I find them much better then Sally j. Unfortunately they are losing to Semma, but it is no surprise. Lastly, I don’t get how people are so upset Fadam lost. Most people only like them because Adam is in it. Fadam was barely established as a couple. Mostly, it was some drunk crazy talk by Fiona and a lot of making out.

I feel like I’m the only one voting solely based on how much I believe a couple actually works, hahaha. Seriously though, I feel like so many people are voting out of spite of one character they despise in the relationship (ie. Eli, Declan, etc.), because they adore at least one of the characters in the relationship (ie. Adam/Spinner), and/or they hate the opposing couple (ie. Eclare).

Im not understanding how people find ziley boring. i think the only plausible reason they could be remotely boring is because theyve been horribly neglected by the writers and havent been given a real storyline aside from TWWGB. the last proper storyline theyve had was in purple pills and that was way back in the end of august. so yea horribly neglected. i really hope they get a plot in Chasing Pavements

Ziley is boring becuz their plot revolves around the same thing every single time: Riley “coming out of the closet”. Look I cud only imagine how hard is to tell everyone ur gay but seriously it shouldn’t take this many plots to get the message thru. They have been on this “coming out of the closet” plot basically since Riley came to the show. I’d love to see them take on a plot that has nothing to do about Riley finding it hard to be gay :)

I understand what you mean about all these plots about Riley sexuality. But honestly it is tougher for most guys to come out. Some guys doesn’t come out until they are older; such as Ashley’s Father. Yes, he’s gay and he has a child. So, it does make sense why the writers are focusing on Riley’s sexuality as he slowly come out, (In Reality it takes time.) It does get tiring to see the samething over and over. Then again, I find Riley and Zane and the whole sexuality plot interesting.

I really don’t like Ziley. i love love love Zane- he has helped riley through so much, but it seems that every other episode riley does something stupid and they break up, then he learns his lesson and it’s all better. i guess my problem is really just with riley, haha.. i wonder what everyone sees so much in ziley..
