Honestly, there’s not much to assess from this promo. For years the Canadian promos have been bland, unengaging affairs (which is why I don’t understand people constantly needing to see the CTV and MuchMusic promos. Bitch about TeenNick’s promo’s being misleading/overhyped all you want, but they at least make you want to watch. If I were some casual, this promo gives me no reason as to why I should watch the show.
The one positive thing is visual evidence that Mr. Johnny DiMarco is back:

im really sad that johnny’s coming back. not so much because i dislike him, but just because there are so many alumni who i prefer. even though he did seem like the most logical person to “unexpectedly return”, i was still holding out hope that the exec was referring to someone else. this means that we definitely won’t see jane, or spin, or danny, or anyone. :(

EEEEW! Why would you want to see Danny’s boring ass back? Let him rot with Leia and Derrick. I hope we see Jane again someday though she was one of my favs :( And theres no way Spinner is gone forever. He has been on 9 seasons,He cant just go away after 1 episode. And we NEED a sendoff episode/movie for Peter SOOOOO bad its not even funny.

When claire was holding eli it looks like the same scene as where he was driving. I think he crashed but doesn’t die and claire goes and finds him.

Alli, as you all know is my Favorite character ever! I love it when she said:
“I have changed, but all these BAD things just keep happening to me!”
Priceless! I can’t wait to see how far the writers would take this character! Degrassi is one of my biggest inspirations to become a writer, movie, screen play, series, etc. Writer! I want to make an American Version of Degrassi. By the way- I’m not a real doctor, becuase I’m only six-teen but I do enjoy to write. Alli is my favorite type of character. And I can’t wait to see where it goes. Now everyone is saying Alli’s Plot looks boring ((Which it does)); I bet her plot is going to be strong! Her Running away is going to be strong… I know it.
The best character is back and I missed her those last eight episodes. Yay! I LOVE YOU ALLI!

At least the Canadian promo shows more characters. Nice to see a Ziley, the new character Sadie. And Mr. Dimarco. I mean Johnny being back fits, who else would we need to see?
Spinner & Emma?- Do we really need to see how their rushed marriage (to write them off the show) is going?
Jane?- Are her and Holly J going to start up the old baby sitting business?! Haha
Manny?- Why? Just why? Lol
Danny?- His story lines were close to zero without the Stüdz.
Peter?- Yeah maybe since he was working at the Dot.
They should bring back Jack! I mean we never hear Snake mention his son, we never hear Connor complaining about living with an annoying (how old would Jack be?)
Stephen Stohn mentioned in an interview that Degrassi the high school/community school is the main character of the show, once the characters move on from high school, viewers really hold little interest in them (although, it was cool to see the old cast off on their FIRST year of college, anything beyond that was unnecessary).

Jack would be 5 years old. Many people don’t seem to get this, but despite ANY, I repeat, ANY mention of the year from seasons 1-9, season 10 didn’t really ‘skip ahead’ at all. Therefore, Season 1 takes place from 2003-2004. Season 2 takes place from 2004-2005. Season 3 takes place from 2005-2006. Season 4 takes place from 2006-2007. Season 5 takes place from 2007-2008. Season 6 takes place in 2008. Season 7 takes place in 2009. Season 8 takes place in 2009, and Season 9 takes place in 2010. Season 10 goes from 2010-2011.

Yes, they have actually mentioned the year before, on several occasions…for example, at the end of season 7 when Manny/Emma/Liberty etc. graduate from high school, Ms.H clearly states “congratulations to the class of 2007!” And the show started in 2001, so season 1 is 2001-2002, season 2 is 2002-2003, season 3 is 2003-2004, season 4 is 2004-2005, season 5 is 2005-2006, season 6 is fall 2006, season 7 is spring 2007, season 8 is fall 2007, season 9 is spring 2008, and the current season takes place from 2010-2011, so there was a skip.

I’m sorry; I see now that you didn’t say that there weren’t any mentions, but you said DESPITE any mentions…so since the current season is 2010-2011, are we supposed to assume a change in when past events occurred? I don’t know…haha.

So sorry, but I have one more thing to say haha: I see now you simply mean people need to understand this season takes place right after season 9, though it technically is a few years later if you take into account past mentions of the year. But yes, I do understand this is the school year after season 8-9. It’s just really messed up with the whole change in year thing. : /

Kary, keep you opinions to yourself. If you don’t like the promos, don’t watch it, and don’t even bother posting about it. We Canadians like it, and we wouldn’t give a shit if you Americans don’t like our promos, too bad. Americans promos are shit as it is and when you go watch the actual episode it disappoint you to the max.Its good enough that you even get to watch the promos where you people really shouldn’t.

I put together media promos on a daily basis, and still I think the Canadian ones are terrible. I absolutely love this show, but I’ve always thought that about Canadian promos in the seven years I’ve been watching. It doesn’t matter what my opinion is, I post it because it’s NEWS and other fans of the show want to watch it. Stop being so oversensitive, taking my words so personally and thinking I’m trashing the entire Canadian culture when I’m not. If you find my opinion or the opinion of anyone else here that offensive, then don’t waste your time or ours coming here.

I actually like these promos. They give us new scenes and stuff to look forward about that TeenNick hasn’t showed us yet the don’t give too much or even any storylines away. I mean yes the TN promos are a lot more intense, show more and give a lot away (and I always look forward to seeing them) but I’d rather not know that Alli was running away, Clare and Eli were on the rocks, Holly J was hurt, Fiona was possibly a lesbian, Eli possibly gets into a car crash, etc. I know that’s what promos do and if I don’t want to know then I shouldn’t watch them but I can’t help myself hahaa but all in all I’d rather watch the episodes the day they premier not expecting any of it. (Ex: I wouldn’t want to see a promo for Time Stands Still where we knew someone was going to be shot or Rock This Town where we knew someone was going to die) I like unexpectedness <– haha

I agree 100% that less is more (more on that in a sec)…but when I watch the promos I watch them as if I’m someone who has never watched the show before. Put TeenNick’s and MuchMusic’s promos side by side and which one makes me want to tune in; the quick, flashy promo or the one where it’s just clips of characters standing around doing nothing while a creepy, out-of-place voice narrates?
But there’s no denying that the TeenNick promos give away too much. I’m not sure if anyone has pointed out that the TeenNick promos have completely ruined the Adam/Fiona cliffhanger they established at the end of “Halo.” I will post it here, but I won’t watch the promo for the season finale because I want to know nothing about it. They dropped the ball on Rock This Town by letting it slip out six months before the episode aired that JT would die. Time Stands Still’s promo was good because it was vague…we knew there was a shooting, but we didn’t know who was going to get shot. There are ways to create interesting promos that use little to no actual episode footage and give little plot info away (TeenNick’s pre-season 7 character promos are the best example), TeenNick and Much are just inconsisent in using those methods.

I agree while this promo is almost worthless (despite seeing johnny’s return) teenick promos are ruining the despense and,surprise. I have made up my mind not to watch the promos or look at kary’s promo pics before the upcoming episodes. More surprise=better show!!!

I think when Alli runs away, she goes to Johnny’s house because its one of the few places she knows well. She knows Johnny wouldn’t tell her parents/the police where she was as opposed to Clare or Jenna’s houses.

@Degrassilover77 while they do try to keep the timeline as close to ours as humanly possible, Degrassi isn’t exactly a ‘real-time’ series, like say… A certain show on Fox, so they can’t always stay right on par. Since Seasons 6-9 were one semester each, some of the mentions that were made, like say “Congratulations to the Degrassi class of 2007” … It does cause for some bizzare occurences in the show, because, thanks to the retcon, ‘We Built This City’ takes place in June 2009. But up until now, we were led to believe that it was 2007. Things would’ve been so much easier if they had left the timeline unknown until they decided to make a retcon, therefore there wouldn’t be this absolutely ironic scenario.

Great guess. I myself think that while this promo is nothing compared to the epic teen nick promo its still good. I wonder what Holly J is panicing about. And i think that when Bianca says “we had alot of fun together,we need to have alot more” she does drugs with him instead of sex.

Johnny is/was my favorite character the last couple seasons :D I’m so glad he’s back sporting his hotness :D I’m glad he looks like he does in real life in the show now. He was kinda ugly in the show but I loved him in real life. I guess I like Scott better than Johnny but YES YAY! Oh happy day :D

degrassi has never been one to do flashbacks, i actually cant even think of one & ive been watching the show since the beginning. so i dnt see why everyone is thinking up all these flashbacks, its just illogical. just sayin

Just my hypothesis, but after seeing both the teennick and much music promos, I think I know what happens with whole Clare and Eli thing.
I think that Eli gets into a car crash or something of the sort the night of his fight with clare on the phone. Then Fitz happens to find Eli and runs to go tell Clare. Which is why he was at her door with that look of urgency on his face. And then Clare goes to meet Eli, which is where you see that scene with them in his car.
It makes sense because Clare is wearing the same outfit as the scene in her house and in the car with Eli.
Just my crazy prediction.

im so happy that jonnys coming back. i hate that every1 was saying they thought itd be spemma or any1 of the original cast to come back SS made it clear that as of the end of season 9 there wasnt gunna be ANYONE from the original cast on the show anymore. uh, do people still not get that degrassi takes manhattan was to tie up the loose ends & yet people still complain, what happend to craig? what happend to manny? what happend to _____? they wernt mentioned in the last movie cause their stories were already finished & had closure.
ALEX- got her extra credits & activities & moved on to try to get into a good collage & got a new GF & moved in with her causin(or sumthin like that)
ASHLEY- went off to tour with craig. & is probaly doing good on the indie curcuit
