Season 4 Grades

401/402 – The Ghost in the Machine 1 & 2:  B
Lauren Collins establishes herself as one of Degrassi’s standout actresses.

403 – King of Pain:  C+
An OK episode that brings Alex to the character forefront.

404 – Mercy Street: A (Emma/Rick) | A (JT/Manny)
Emma leads the way in an emotional, well-written storyline.  JT’s penis pump brings humor without being crass.

405 – Anywhere I Lay My Head:  C
Ellie-centric episodes are heavy, but seem to lack the engaging nature of other characters’ storylines.

406 – Islands in the Stream:  B+
The end of Spaige, but the (very) beginning of Palex.

407/408 – Time Stands Still 1 & 2:  A+
Part 1 is a great setup; Part 2 is a great finish.  This is Degrassi’s most intense, and most-memorable episode.

409 – Back in Black:  B-
Just as we’re enjoying a well-rounded Sean, he leaves.

410 – Neutron Dance:  B
More entertaining than the re-ignition of  Crash is the reactions from the rest of The Squatch.

411/412 – Voices Carry 1 & 2:  C+
Well acted by Jake Epstein, but it quickly becomes Craig overload.

413 – Bark at the Moon: B- (Manny) | B+ (Paige/Mr. O)
A focus on Manny’s mental state makes up for the weak couple this plot revolves around. | Paige and Matt’s secret relationship is crafted in an interesting way that avoids it being a standard student/teacher scenario.

414/415 – Secret 1 & 2:  B+
Watching Emma breakdown is far more interesting than watching her protest.

416 – Eye of the Tiger:  A-
Spinner’s confession serves up some killer conflict between him and Degrassi’s top clique.

417 – Queen of Hearts:  B
A solid episode about trust, and Ellie’s lack of it.

418 – Modern Love:  C
Paige and Mr. O feel more like a filler couple.

419 – Moonlight Desires:  C-
The beginning of the kind of Marco episodes that we HATE.

420 – West End Girls:  C+
The Manny/Paige interaction is good.  Everything else is not.

421/422 – Going Down the Road 1 & 2:  D
Congratulations Degrassi, you’ve jumped the shark.

  1. I have to disagree on the ‘Goin’ Down The Road’ grade. It shows that Craig’s illness didn’t just appear for a an episode and disappear, never to be mentioned again. It must have made him relive his parent’s ordeal while watching Joey and Caitlin fight, and getting beat up on the street made him relive his father’s beatings.

Plus, how can you go wrong with Jay & Silent Bob? ;)

  2. I’ll agree that the Craig stuff was good. But the whole Kevin Smith coming to Degrassi was just about as unrealistic as Degrassi Goes Hollywood

  4. Umm COME ON, Voices Carry was INCREDIBLE!!! Jake and Melissa’s acting was phenomenal and the plot was awesome. The Jiberty subplot was amazing too. That episode deserves an A. However, I do think that season 4 as a whole was Craig overload. The finale sucked, I agree with you on that.

  5. I think this was a good season, and it shows just how much Eli is like Craig. With the same disorder, and cannot take no for an answer! I also disagree about Voices Carry (which I think is one of those unforgettable episodes) and Going down the road. In my opinion they are both great episodes.
