According to the new promo from Netflix, Degrassi: Next Class Season 4 will be returning on Friday, July 7th!

I also talked a little bit about some of the stuff in the promo on Youtube. The big thing is that the seniors are definitely graduating in Season 4! It’s going to be weird watching the Maya/Zig/Tristan group leave the show…I can still remember when they were the newbies all the way back in Season 11.

  1. Hello it’s me again, when you sent out the post for the season 4 promo you mentioned how you remember the seniors when they had first come to the school in season 11. I was unaware that there was another series or something else that goes along with this show I was wondering if you knew how I could watch those other episodes.
    thanks for all your help,
    Emma

    1. There’s an unofficial Degrassi channel where you can watch the previous seasons of “The Next Generation” before Next Class: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyaf0thAyUnVdGCvgLFfGvg/playlists

There were 14 seasons before Next Class, so it’s really interesting to watch entire generations of characters come and go from Degrassi. A majority of the current Next Class cast either joined in seasons 11, 13 or 14.

  3. I mentioned this once way back when Next Class season 1 was released, but it’s worth mentioning again. I believe the real world explanation for Yael’s wig has to do with the fact that Jamie Bloch auditioned for the role of Maude “the short haired lesbian.” Presumably, Jamie cut her hair for the role as it was listed a requirement in the casting call. When Devyn Nekoda left the show, Maude was then rewritten as Yael to take over the storyline they had planned for Arlene. Of course, Jamie’s hair was already cut and the quick fix was to have her wear a wig. It’s nice to know the writers took the wig into consideration and have an in-universe explanation for it. Can’t wait to find out what it is.

  4. Hard to see how Tristan could graduate. Granted, with the Grade 11 group I can’t imagine how Tristan (or Maya) would fit in. But not sure how they could realistically explain Tristan graduating when he spent an entire semester in a coma and presumably some of this semester recovering. I guess there is always Summer School, but Summer School at least in the real world won’t make up an entire semester worth of credits.

  5. I would really love to see Degrassi have a really conservative/religious gay character… kind of like a gay version of Becky Baker, where he is completely oblivious to homophobia and the struggles others have due to their orientation.

  6. Kary, do you feel as though it is too soon for the current Grade 12 students to be graduating? Personally, back when we got 40-plus episodes per Season, I wanted them to stick to a more fluent schedule, but with each Season only consisting of 10 episodes in Next Class, I almost wish they would have held off until next year to see these guys leave.

    1. It’s weird because I feel like it’s time for the current seniors to leave since most of them have been around since the 40-episode days, but if the show continues it feels like the younger/future characters will end up leaving the show too soon.
