So Degrassi put out a really cool Christmas-y video where they replay the top 6 holiday moments in Degrassi history. There aren’t very many episodes that highlight the holiday season, but what I love most about this video is that it covers so many generations of Degrassi. Even though the show is focused on promoting Next Class, I love when they take time out to acknowledge the older series. I’m definitely on the train that wishes we’d get more of that…as we saw in 2016, on more than one occasion, you can’t go wrong with going old school.

  1. I know that “Holiday” gets a lot of flak from the fandom, but I love it. It’s always been one of the first holiday specials I watch once December rolls around. I know the fans don’t like the focus on Joey and Caitlin, and would prefer that the focus be on the Craig/Ashley/Manny love triangle, but in all honesty, I feel that the kids got enough screen time. Their plot in these two episodes involved Craig’s infidelity being revealed, and that’s it. That didn’t require being the focus of “Holiday”, as the real meat of the love triangle arc came later. Plus, it’s a Christmas special! It SHOULD be focused on the happier plot, which was Joey and Caitlin’s, not the angsty one. And Joey and Caitlin are legendary. They deserved a sappy holiday special devoted to their relationship.

And as a Ukrainian gal, I love that Ukrainian Christmas got a little shoutout through Paige, even if Lauren Collins did butcher the pronunciation of “holubtsi” and “kobassa”.

  2. By the way, Merry Christmas Kary! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – thanks for providing fans (especially us…ahem…older fans…) with a drama-free, civilized place to discuss this nutty little show! Be well – we’ll need you to dissect the new season for us!
