Becky’s Revelation
Becky’s brother Luke writes her a letter and wants her to come visit him at the juvenile detention center. Becky doesn’t want to and dodges her moms pleas by saying she has band practice. The “band” she’s a part of is called Prodigal Spoon, but Becky isn’t a part of it yet; she has to audition. She sings for the band’s primary member, Jonah, but he tells Becky she isn’t cut out for the band.
Later, Jonah tracks Becky down to return the letter from Luke she’d dropped while rushing out of her audition. Jonah tells her he read the letter, and knows how mad she is at her brother. He tells Becky the amount of baggage she’s carrying around can mess her up and recites the bible verse from Isaiah 43:25. Becky finally reads the letter and still doesn’t want to go visit Luke until Imogen tells her she needs to release the anger she’s keeping inside. She finally visits Luke, and he tells her that he doesn’t blame her for turning him in. Becky goes off on Luke, telling him her life sucks because of him and there’s nothing he can do to fix it. Becky’s mom asks her if she’ll ever be able to forgive like; Becky doesn’t know at this point. What she does know is that in the end Jonah asks her to be in the band.
GRADE: B-
QUICK REVIEW: While he may wind up being a decent character down the road, Jonah was nothing special in his Degrassi debut. I’m a sucker for the cheesy band archs Degrassi churns out every few years, but the Prodigal Spoon plot device never really grabbed me. Jonah seemed to change his mind about Becky being in the band not because he had a legit change of heart, but because the show is going to eventually pair them up emotionally and (probably) romantically. I’m looking forward to these two because of how much they’ll have in common, but their introduction leaves much to be desired. The saving grace of this plot is the underlying arch of Becky holding in her emotions and pretending everything is okay, until Jonah and Imogen convince her otherwise. Becky finally says what needed to be said to Luke, and now the healing process can begin.

Frankie vs Zoë
Zoë pushes the power cheer squad as they prepare for competition, but Frankie feels Zoë’s pushing them too hard on two fronts: nailing difficult moves and continuing to send nude Oomfchats for money. As the cheerleading squad has doubts about their ability to win, Zoë takes the to see their competition. The Newman squad performs a routine so good it makes the Degrassi girls want to give up…everyone except for Zoë. She uses the Oomfchat money to buy new gym equipment so they can get better, and Frankie doesn’t like it. Frankie feels Zoë is abusing her power as leader of the squad and not doing what’s in the best interest of the group.
Zoë vents to Grace, telling her about the squads rebellion and how she just wants people to stop looking at her as a victim. Grace tells her she needs to stop behaving like a bitch, and also informs Zoë that Frankie is the only one on the squad who hasn’t been sending Oomfchat nudes. Zoë returns the gym equipment and uses the money to suck up to the squad by buying them gifts and apologizing. As planned, the squad decides to work with Zoë again and she continues to entice them with the thought of using the Oomfchat money to buy themselves personal items. Zoë calls out Frankie for her lack of Oomfchatting and gives her an ultimatum: either pull her weight, or quit the squad. Frankie decides to quit.
GRADE: A-
QUICK REVIEW: Degrassi’s young blood carries the weight of this episode with a compelling storyline on many levels. I keep talking about how scary it is the amount of power Zoë has over the cheerleading squad, and she straight up played on their emotions to get them to return to her and turn on Frankie at the end of the episode. From Frankie’s perspective this has been peer pressure 101: she doesn’t want to be a part of Degrassi Nudes, but Zoë knows how to talk to (and intimidate) these young girls into anything. It hurts that the squad was so quick to turn on Frankie, but kudos to her for doing what she felt was right in the face of peer pressure.
Zoë’s intentions are genuine, because at the heart of it all she really does want a fresh start and for people to stop looking at her as the girl who was sexually assaulted. But it doesn’t excuse her reckless behavior and the fact she’s being a jackass, using her acting skills to manipulate others into giving her what she wants.

Eli vs Drew
Eli can’t stand the fact Drew is always around Clare, but he winds up asking Clare on a lunch date. Their date is interrupted by Drew, who shows up looking for Clare and has been calling her nonstop to check in on the baby. Because earlier Clare had received a call from Drew and lied to Eli about it (she said it was a telemarketer), Eli gets upset. Clare tells Eli that he’s going to have to accept the fact Drew is going to be around, bu Eli doesn’t know if he can do that.
While applying for a summer job at The Dot, Eli sees Drew walk in. Eli confronts him and feels as if Drew ruined things with Clare. Drew wants them to remain civil for Clare, but Eli punches him in the face. Eli tells Clare he’s very mad at her, not Drew, then walks inside and is offered the job at The Dot.
GRADE: C
QUICK REVIEW: With Drew/Clare/Eli, the various parts of this long-running arch have either been hit or miss…for me, it’s a miss here in There’s Your Trouble. Everything seems to be a little too over the top. Drew is overly concerned with Clare and the baby. Eli is overly angry about the situation. Meanwhile, you’ve got Clare Edwards in the middle, playing the role of Ms. Nonchalant in this bizarre triangle. It’s going to be hard to gauge this entire situation because of how back and forth things are playing out. In 1404 Clare was adamant about Columbia, etc., and now she’s cooled down and looks to be planning on taking a year off from Columbia. Either way, we’re sitting around twiddling our thumbs as we wait for the plot’s most pressing issue to be addressed: Clare’s ultrasound.

*SPINNER MASON.
I know people pointed out that Spinner isn’t wearing a wedding ring in his cameo, but unless that is randomly addressed in a future episode I wouldn’t read much into it. And I wouldn’t put it above Stefan to have Emma appear as well just to rub Spemma in our faces!
*Good job, Frankie. Good for her for doing the right thing. Speaking of that, I need to point out that this is similar to the concept of Becky Baker getting screwed over by her family when she told police what Luke did to Zoë. In the most screwed up of scenarios where these girls are doing something bad, Frankie is made out to be the bad guy for doing what’s right. Getting screwed over for being good is a very tough pill to swallow, and just another example of how crappy reality can be (despite how we’re TOLD the world should work).
*Grace is in the lead for season 14 MVP. She’s definitely going to move up in the Power Rankings this week.
*I wish we knew how much these girls are making with Degrassi Nudes. Next week we’re going to see them all show up to school with Gucci handbags and diamond iPhone 6’s!
*Becky’s walking better these days, but I’m hoping she wears that cast for a while. It’s a nice little touch of realism just to have an injured character remain injured for a lengthy period on the show. That reminds me…I still want to see a road-to-recovery storyline one day.

Oddly enough there are probably people who think that being high school royalty is indicative of your value going into adulthood. FYI: your status in high school means jack shit in the real world.

Eli again makes good life choices, where does he choose to work: The one place he is SURE to run into both Drew and Clare regularly.
Grace is looking to be the true heir to Ellie Nash, as opposed to Eli who just… was Ellie and Craig’s lovechild from different parents. She speaks her mind and isn’t afraid of nothing.
As for the new Band thing, they needed a new band but they could have phrased Jonah’s reversal a bit better… Becky can sing, she just needs to learn how to sing rock and roll.

I think that is the reason Eli took the job at the Dot. To drive Drew & Clare crazy or to make things harder for Clare. S11 with out the mania. As for Becky maybe Jonah teaches her to belt out her emotions through religious rock.. As in to sing rock.. I still don’t understand Grace yet.

After everything happening to Becky this season I am now fully betting there is no way she is leaving this year. I can’t see it happening without them tying up her character departure very sloppily. Also, didn’t Jimmy kind of do a road to recovery-ish thing. I am sure you mean physically, but Fiona went to rehab a few times too!

That was funny. I thought her mom would of been the 1st to call her by her full name. Even though Zoe threatened Frankie not to tell its obvious she still does. Maybe Chewe & Simpson can find out in the same episode. since she left at the end of the 5th (like I guessed), since she’s in the squad again based on that firestarter preview, the only way
she can be in is for Zoe to be out. but I would love to hear her punishments.. if she gets suspended it would be damn close to finals. I think when Chewie finds out it should be epic. an that will put an end to his “science partnership” with Zoe. its funny she cut Zig off in her 1st 2nd plot an now Frankie. no wonder why she only has 2 friends. we will never see her

since Vince might be coming back & he is mad at Zig.. it would be great if Zoe & Maya were around dring that time.. i’d actually be ok if Zoe got hurt. she deserves it. an I hope Becky tells her off before she leaves. she needs to get hit as hard as when Drew got hit!

Well… Sarah WAS at Epitome on LGBT spirit day back in October, along with Cristine (who was filming Open Heart at the same studios) and they were the only graduate actors on set, so… You could very well be right. I was really hoping no one from this class would be held back, but eh. I guess it would make sense with Becky’s story. And honestly, even though she can make some really dumb decisions sometimes, I really do enjoy the angle they’re going for with her, with her having been all happy and bubbly and then a shitty chain of events drastically altered her general outlook on life. Without going into any detail, it’s something that I’m personally going through as well right now, although different situations than what’s happening to Becky, so yeah, I can definitely relate. It can be really emotionally exhausting to find your light again once you’ve lost it, and the whole identity crisis that you sort of face while examining the person you are under these new circumstances and whether that matches up with “the old you”.. It can be very confusing. I’m glad to see Degrassi exploring this kind of storyline, and I’m really liking Season 14, and the way that the storytelling is taking place. Everything just kind of connects and flows.

It really sucks that Spinner hhasn’t progressed at all. I was hoping to see him at the prison as a guard with Becky, not still at the Dot. But I wonder if he’ll be like a mentor to Eli or if he just made a cameo for tonight

What’s wrong with Spinner working at the dot? I liked it. It showed he wasn’t completely blackholed in the sense that he stopped appearing there even though he worked there. He has progressed from worker to manager. That’s something.
Just because someone works in a job like that doesn’t mean it’s bad. After all somebody has to do these jobs otherwise we wouldn’t be able to have fast food or groceries or drycleaners or in the students of degrassi’s case no diner for them to get food or drinks from or to have a place to hang out at. So don’t look down at spinner for working a somewhat dead end job because somebody has to do it.
Also I think it was just a cameo because everywhere I have looked it says guest or cameo appearance even shane himself said it. But it would be nice if he did return more than that once to be a mentor to Eli as you said. :)

I personally liked Spinner was working at The Dot. A large part of Spinners character near the end, and especially in his send off was that he was happy with a low key life and accepted he didn’t have to make some huge upward change to be happy. The very last line he gave on the show (before now) after marrying Emma was “the best part of this. Neither of us have to change anything.” I liked the idea that they were happy with what they had and didn’t feel they failed because they didn’t accomplish “great things”. I also never liked how when characters make return appearances in long time shows like that they are usually uber successful. It’s more realistic some of the original crew are just “normal people”. Although as someone said, for all we know he owns it and at the very least he has clearly been upwardly mobile.
I didn’t like he didn’t wear a wedding ring though. Assume he is not returning as a major character, so doubt there is much to be read into it. But it felt like they just overlooked that detail which came off bad. Although who knows, maybe Emma will come back. Or maybe she tripped into the same black hole her mother did after the last of the original crew left the series.
The Degrassi Nudes thing is ridiculous though. I know that teen girls in this day and age are a lot more comfortable sending nude pics out there. But I just don’t buy ALL OF THEM save Frankie just thought it was a great idea. And that not one of them realized they from a legal standpoint distributing kiddie porn as most of them are under 18. And bringing the schools name into it, thus making it clear where these girls are coming from.
There is just no logical way this wouldn’t have the police investigating it pretty soon if not already, and eventually end very badly for them. Especially Zoe who minor or not would definitely be brought up on charges. And you think her “celebrity rape” trial would have the media in a frenzy over her. It’s just rediculos and doubt it will end with the 5 main characters involved shamed and/or charged with a serious crime. So can’t see it ending realistically.

The nudes thing is worse than that. Zoe doesn’t see anything wrong with what she’s doing. If she told the principle the “our way of fighting back” crap he would get angry. And Child porn in Canada is a felony & can land you up to 20 years in jail, Jail not detention place like where Luke is. and with the money thing that’s fraud, that gets 7 years right there. the girls could get charged

2. Jonah looks cool.. but when he said “your friends are lying” was funny. he looked like he had no emotion when he said that. but Becky sounded the best. I’ve been waiting for that. Sarah sounds amazing. an I love mad Becky, I’ve never heard her tell someone to get out her face. an Luke was so LOL saying “I don’t blame you” that’s Krazy. if that’s how he thinks then I feel sorry
for her parents. an that smile she had before going on school.. if they do kiss eachother then I know she will think about drew but its dumb to get in a relationship when your about to leave. but that would explain Becky & Drew drifting away.. since after this episode Clare might stay with Drew longer. an that outfit Imogen had on looked like it came from the 50’s.
3. so funny seeing Drew get his stich rocked! I was right, good thing he didn’t fight back cus the ay that punched looked he would of lost.. badly Eli should be a boxer, all he has to do is think about Clare & he’d be undefeated. not much to say about it now.

well its not really “discovered” but just my guess. it only makes sense because in the Firestarter preview you see Frankie in her uniform when she’s running which means the only way she’d be back I is if Zoe is out. and I guess she just sits down with Chewie & tells everything. the squad will think of her as an authority figure for taking Zoe down. & since
their not competing then she could give that money to the principle. well if she rats Zoe out then there will be no money left. but Frankie isn’t scared at all. I predicted she would leave in this episode an she did. after this all the Zoe stuff is minor with her having no power. I spend lots of time thinking about what could happen in the future:) an this is what I came up
with. assuming they don’t put legal issues in this. I think dentation, maybe suspension & getting kicked out the team with no money is enough cus if there was legal issues then Zoe would be facing over 7 years in jail for Child porn & Fraud. I’m sorry but the way Eli is acting I don’t want him near Clare. i don’t care if the baby ends up being his either. Eli has some dangerous jealousy issues and we just saw that again last night. I’m happy Drew didn’t fight back and I’m glad Clare saw it. I hope this is an eye opener for her. I wouldn’t even be surprised if the plot twist was Eli being that father but Clare & Drew end up being endgame. Season 10 ‘In Too Deep’ Eli is back the one that scared the crap out of Clare and no one is seeing it. As for Drew he is on overload on daddy stuff. he should be getting a job and saving money.
I love becky I’m happy she finally confronted Luke but remember Becky is still in a darker place. I’m like you I did feel much with Jonah yet. We have to wait and see later on in the EP’s.
Frankie is my baby, I’m happy she left. Zoe is still hiding from her real emotions with her acting. I hope she gets kicked in the with reality real soon before something real bad happens with her and her squad

I see it. maybe she became hydra after the 13D ending. now if she is Hydra then who will she answer to? it depends on if Whitehall will be dead by the end of SHIELD season 2. he is famous for making women “comply” with his rules. but Jail time would be good for her. she’d be in worse than Luke.
& LOL for Luke saying “I don’t blame you”. so funny. even though it wont happen I wish Vince could shoot her out of anger with Zig. now that id enjoy. imagining her in surgery & she barely lives. usually jail time or almost death makes people be nice. & points 2 Becky for telling Jonah to get out her face.

Why do fans think its funny that Eli punched Drew? Isn’t Eli the one who cheated and was very distant with Clare when they ‘worked things out’ after Spiderweb?. Clare started having feelings for Drew in the later of the season because of that. This is why i have a problem with Eli he never takes actions for his own mistakes. His mistake led to this mess but of course he blames Clare for messing up his plans and ruining his life. This isn’t love its obsession over a woman. Please stop blaming Drew & Clare. I wish the police were there to see that I would loved to see Eli get arrested for assault. Sorry for the rant I’m tired of fans defending the wrong person. *cough* Eli.

For me it was because he called him crazy. I could see as a bipolar person who has had manic episodes that have actually caused him to behave dangerously being called crazy could be a trigger that might get you punched. Not saying its right but it was a little satisfying to see. Drew was doing the most this episode… as was Clare… as was Eli. In my opinion, it’s all getting out of hand and this isn’t the best storyline to send any of these characters off.

Until it is addressed otherwise, I choose to believe that Spemma is divorced.
As much as I dislike Clare, I think that she would be better off if she ditched both guys. If by some miracle she doesn’t miscarry, the father can still be a part of the kid’s life and provide support without being romantically attached to Clare. I never though I’d say this about a character I hate so much, but she deserves better than Drew and Eli. They’re both terrible.

Honestly I am so disappointed in Degrassi nowadays I might stop watching it. Back in season 12 before Cam died Eli was my absolute favourite character ever. I loved Eclare and shipped it so hard which is why it baffles me that I despise Eli, Clare and Drew right now. It makes no sense for how the characters turned out. I’m really tired so I won’t explain but I really don’t care about eclare and all the individuals anymore. Hate Zoe btw and also very disappointed in her character

I don’t pay attention to Clare or Drew anymore… or Miles but it looks like Maya is being crazy now. just keep losing friends guys:) 1st Miles now Tristan. whose next? an I am not disappointed in Zoe but she is a villain and she will go down, my guess is in the 7th episode so the drama can set in. my guess is Chewie finds out the same episode. but once Frankie rats her out she is untouchable.
if Zoe does anything after she gets ratted out it just adds to her punishment. an I hope she’s not stupid enough to get in more trouble. She is so Hydra.. and she is a sociopath (she has antisocial personality disorder).

If this was realistic Eli would not want to be with a girl who is pregnant with another guy’s child. Another thing, an employer would not hire somebody who runs out in the middle of an interview.

I agree, but since this is Mary Sue Edwards, guys must fawn over her at all times. I think it’s a requirement in the writers’ room.
