One of the cooler things we’ve seen in Degrassi’s history is the invention of TeenNick’s music video promos. It offers a unique way for the network to tease what’s happening in the season, leaving enough room for fans to speculate their brains out. Here’s some of my thoughts on what went down in this promo:
*Bhandallas
We see Dallas go in to kiss Alli, but she disappears and reappears far away. That doesn’t bode well for those of us who were hoping these two would make it to graduation and beyond. For the longest time Alli was unattainable to Dallas, with life circumstances always getting in the way. Even though he has her now it’s no guarantee she won’t slip away, whether their relationship hits a roadblock or the fact that her education will take her in a much different direction after Degrassi. However, even if Bhandallas breaks up this season, if Alli somehow walks away from this season on her own as the strong, intelligent, independent woman we know she can be, then that’s totally okay by me.
*Clare
This was pretty straightforward…Clare’s in quite the predicament. The future she wanted for herself is crumbling underneath her due to a very surprising pregnancy. Even worse, she has no idea who the father is. I think the majority of the people reading this all agree that based on the timeline in the Degrassi universe and that we know the seniors are leaving before the end of the season, Clare won’t carry the baby to term. With Eli still in the picture, ultimately it comes down to whether or not Eclare will be together when Clare Edwards graduates. One way or the other, we are at long last guaranteed to receive an Eclare conclusion in season 14.
*Zig and Tiny
Zig and Tiny running from the haunting figures dressed in black has to be one of my favorite parts of the promo in terms of its symbolism. In season 14 we’re going to watch these two try to outrun a dark part of their lives, but as we saw with Vince’s return at the end of season 13, that’s easier said than done. The unique part here is that you’ve got two characters who are in this bad situation together. They’ll need to rely on each other to get out, but at the same time getting two people out at the same time is much more difficult than if it were just Zig or Tiny by themselves.
*Miles
He’s got a book and he tosses it into the fire and storms off. We see Tristan try (and fail) to comfort him, as Hunter follows behind them. Maya picks up the book, which turns out is the “Hollingsworth Family Album.”
For me, the Hollingsworth clan is one of the most exciting things about Degrassi in terms of their potential. Miles is a trainwreck. From what little we saw of Hunter in season 13, he’s just as messed up as Miles. There are still plenty of skeletons to dig up in the Hollingsworth closet.
*The characters who were left alone: Zoë and Becky
Zoë’s all smiles while doing her thing cheerleading, but in reality there’s something off-putting about her that leaves a sour impression on Frankie and Winston. So far the show has avoided having Zoë’s character succumb to “Degrassi Personality Regression to the Mean,” and that’s a very good thing. Even in between the events of Zoë’s sexual assault and the trial we saw her drift back into her patented “Mean Girl” role. With her trying to establish herself in a power position as a cheerleader in season 14, she could easily find herself feeling alone, again, because of her callous behavior toward others.
With Becky, the Eli/Clare/Drew stuff is virtually guaranteed to put a damper on Drecky, leaving Becky all alone. She really has no one, so we can safely assume she’ll eventually gravitate toward the new guy, Jonah.

I just wasn’t impressed with this video at all…they chose an amazing song – but used a lame cover of it…the video was really short…and kinda flimsy.
The reality is – nothing will ever top the original music video promo, “Shark In The Water”…Atleast not without more effort, which doesn’t seem to be happening. And unless there’s a longer version of this new video floating around out there somewhere…or someone dubs over this existing one with the Smashing Pumpkins version of the song…

The name of the song is “Tonight, Tonight.” The band that originally wrote and performed it is the Smashing Pumpkins.

Yes, even though it is very short it was used just to give people a hint of what is coning soon in the next season. I too was a little disapointed because of how short this video was, but its pretty much just a cliff hanger to get people excited and anxious for this season.

i cant believe Zoe would even consider wolf chat she is nasty and she is wrong and Clare why have drew’s baby and say to Eli you don’t like drew and Zoe is wrong for leaving Allie behind in pairs she is just mad because she went wild at that party and ended up in a room and did not know what was happening till she got to school that’s why i think she don’t trust nobody after she found out the truth

I think we can officially give up hoping that they’ll get a storyline. It isn’t going to happen, The writers have their favorites and non-favorites.

In a way I would have liked them there but in another it’s okay. They’re one of the safe couples, as in they’ll likely be endgame because the writers don’t really give them much relationship drama or any real attention for long – they save all that love triangle mess for Clare and Maya (I like these two girls, but I’m exhausted from the love triangles and drama related to boys).

I agree, it didn’t pique my interest for next season any more than the MTV one. Everything that was hinted at we already knew, and some of it was so vague/generic I don’t know why I should care, like the Imogen/Jack thing. Hopefully S14 isn’t as underwhelming as this promo.

well this promo does a good job at stirring emotions but i think thats due to the beautiful song they chose (they always pick the perfect song!!! you cant deny that!), and being excited at seeing my favorite characters.

Besides miscarriage, Clare could also give birth to a premie (at only 7 months, 24 weeks) and have it survive with serious health issues, which would impact her future in having to care for the child…

There isn’t enough time in the school year left for that. It’s already spring in the Degrassi timeline and Clare can’t be more than 6-8 weeks along.

To me this story line is because this will be Clare’s last main one before graduation and of course they got to drag Eli along for the ride. I wished they had done a story line on her family instead, there are unresolved issues between herself and her father. I would’ve liked exploring her family life more, give her a more personal issue than something that will likely revisit the love triangle and keep Eli around longer.

I really, really disliked it. On a positive note, I thought the cinematography was well done, and I liked the music and mood of the piece (a good departure from high energy previous degrassi music videos). The plot line teasers all seemed very obvious and heavy-handed. I get that a lot of the storylines will be continuations from the previous season, which is great since the most annoying tendency of the show is for plot lines to get resolved so quickly and never revisited. BUT where are the new characters? Where are Jenna and Connor? Please — standing in the woods alone is not a teaser, not going to get me excited. Show me some unexpected plots, hint at a real twist, give me something new to get excited about! This was forgettable. I’m going to go watch Shark in the Water now to make myself feel better …

To those of you complaining about the lack of Connor and Jenna, you probably shouldn’t be too surprised. If I remember correctly, Jenna was also not in Bite Your Tongue, and Connor hasn’t been in one of these videos since Shark in the Water.

I’m not surprised. They’re basically the new Liberty and Toby. The writers obviously dislike the characters, but for some reason they’re safe from being blackholed, but as a result, they get no screentime, despite having tons of storyline potential.

yeah they pretty much made Jenna into Jenna and Alli’s sidekick after the baby storyline was over. and Connor’s pretty much comedy relief.

I’m still so disgusted that the writers threw Alli into a relationship so soon after Leo that I hope Bhandallas crashes and burns. It’s a shame, they could have been a good couple, but the writers ruined any hope of me ever embracing them.

I think the reason we didn’t see Jenna and Connor is due to the fact Jessica dyed her hair dark brown..& They may not have that much drama like the 5 main characters that were shown in this promo.. Clare, Becky, Imogen and the Hollingsworth family. The only reason Eli was in the promo is just because the baby daddy crap. TBH i hope Clare leaves Degrassi pregnant with the guy who would be there for her and the baby. I hate to say it but Drew would be the better choice. Eli seems to selfish to be a dad. hate me all you want but I speak the truth.

Agreed. Eli is here just to be a romance pairing fodder, nothing more. The writers won’t let him go even though he’s one of the most developed characters to leave Degrassi. Key word: leave. We went through another Clare centered love triangle just to keep him relevant and now this pregnancy story line that looks like it will end with a miscarriage (possibly a traumatic situation since it’s Degrassi). I’m still bothered by her cancer story line that there wasn’t any mention of her stepfather, step brother, or father even though she’s going through a very hard experience. I just find it hard to believe Eli came up with that money and flew in, while family members in the same country couldn’t send flowers, texts, or visit. Eclare still has the same issues they did, such as communication, that I just don’t see them making it forever. I can’t remember if Eli even mentioned the whole truth about his roommate. If the writers intended them to be endgame then I really wished they hadn’t done all those love triangles and breakups just to slap them together in the end.

When people were complaining about how short the video was (it was) one person responded by saying maybe we should analyze what we have (or to that extent)… So I did. This is my observation and analysis for the Clare-Drew-Eli plot. When she was with Drew he had an arm around her shoulder but she had both of her hands down towards her sides. I think that means if she is with Drew then it would be mainly for the baby’s sake (If Drew leaves Becky when Clare tells him she is pregnant we would know right then that it is mainly for the child, plus Clare said that she was okay with Drew and Becky in the finale so…). Alternately when she was with Eli she had an arm around him and the other on her belly; I think that means that if she were to pursue her life with Eli she would be there for the baby one, but also because of her love for Eli. Now when she and Drew are grinning they are happy yes but I also think that they would be less prepared for the baby and the responsibilities which being parents entails. Eli and Clare even though they are not grinning (to me it it still obvious that they are happy) they also carry a seriousness to them- like they realize the gravity of the situation but they are willing to do everything to ensure that the baby is put first. I know that this most likely has nothing to do with what will happen on the show but it is my deep analysis. NOTE: This is MY honest opinion… abd one more thing: just because it may seem like I favored Eclare over Clew in my comment does not mean I favor either I’m just calling it like I see. Clew or Eclare shipper or not I am willing to admit when something is right or wrong with my ships. Eclare’s got problems, Clew’s got problems but I am NOT going to make this rise my blood pressure this year! Thank you if you took the time to read my comment :)

Why are fans over analyzing this promo. Its pretty straight forward. Clare is looking into future of her pregnancy, the first part is her fea (Sad Clew & Eclare) is the the reality.The happier part is what she (Happy Clew & Eclare) is her wish.. The same with everyone else. Becky is going to be torn with Drew & the baby. Eli is going to be torn. The gang is still with Zig & Tiny. Everyones reality & fears are the first part… The happier (Dream) parts after Becky’s Pixie dust thing is about what they really want but its not going to happen. The Cliff is were do they go from here. Its all metaphors.

I wonder if the Zoey thing isn’t more about her no longer being friends with Frankie. And honestly, I wouldn’t blame her. Frankie has got to be the shittiest best friend ever. Despite Zoey’s MANY faults, she has always been good to Frankie and had her back. Hell, Zoey was going to let Luke get away with what he did to her until she saw him hitting on Frankie, and that was after Frankie already basically said she wasn’t sure she believed Zoey didn’t want it. Then she said the same thing again and completely failed to support her during the trial. Basically saying she believed Zoey wasn’t raped. When people who knew her less and had less reason to be supportive were backing her up.
Seriously, Zoey should have kicked Frankie to the curb a long time ago.

My conclusion:
Alli leaves for MIT so Miles is dealing with losing his girl
Clare and Drew are endgame. Clare and Eli have an amicable separation.
Drew leaves Becky for Clare. Becky finds god again.
Zoe finds herself happy with spirit squad and finally puts Frankie’s bogus friendship in her place.
Zig and Tiny finally escapes the gang-life.
Miles is fed up with his dad cheating and mom being okay with the cheating.
Imogen and Jack …. What the heck was that about?

Guys I just realized this and I have nooooooooooo idea if this could be a clue but do you remember the last webisode with eli, aj and lenore? He said “I’ve never gotten anyone pregnant or been pregnant.” I know this lead to Lenore confessing but maybe it was also the clue that Eli will be the daddy. What do you guys think?
