Maya/Miles/Zig Plot Recap: Maya finds herself in a pickle…Miles wants to get back together, but Zig also wants to date her as well. She decides to date Miles, but decides they must keep it a secret so that she doesn’t hurt Zig. As Maya tries to hide the truth from Zig and allows him to become closer to her, Miles is upset by it. Maya finally tells Zig that she’s not over Miles, and Zig storms off angrily. Miles goes to talk to Zig for Maya’s sake, but the two get into a fist fight. After getting beat up, Miles decides to get revenge on Zig by confronting him with a fake pistol that looks real. Maya sees Miles doing this and is furious, telling him she can’t deal with someone who scares her. Maya apologizes to Zig and the two become friends again.
“I can’t be with a guy who scares me…not again.”
Maya references her former boyfriend Cam Saunders twice in this episode. It’s amazing how one reference sums up her feelings toward Miles, and the other her feelings toward Zig. Degrassi has done a great job of establishing Miles as someone with anger issues over an extensive period, apparent through the constant arguing and reconciling between Maya and Miles. He did become far more vindictive though when it came to Zig, more than he was toward anyone else (his father as well as Drew). Though his outbursts weren’t the over-the-top-violent variety, they were alarming enough for Maya to take notice. “I told you you scare me Miles, that you’re unstable and still you do this?” Maya said, referring to Miles pointing a fake gun in Zig’s face.
When it comes to Zig, I’ve never felt a vibe in season 13 that suggests Maya has romantic feelings for him. Maya has harbored feelings of guilt since discovering Zig was homeless, blaming herself for not being there for him over the summer. After Sparks Will Fly we see she simply wants to protect him, afraid that he may suffer an ending similar to Cam. “Last time someone I cared about disappeared they never came back,” Maya says after Zig becomes MIA.
Miles and Zig are cutthroat toward one another, but Miles is the one who gets caught by Maya. Miles getting pushed out of the way now allows for Maya and Zig to stand alone. It also allows for the show to finally delve into Zig’s recent past, a revelation that will catch Maya off guard as she and Zig become close again.

Clare/Eli/Drew Plot Recap: Clare is upset that not only does Eli not return her phone calls, he’s canceled his plans to visit her and be her date to Wild Wild West Night. While Clare is unsure what to do, Drew tells her that she deserves better than the way Eli’s treating her. Clare ends up calling Eli, and breaks up with him via voicemail when he doesn’t answer. At Wild Wild West night Clare tells Drew about the breakup, and the two sleep together in the props room. Eli shows up afterward, thinking Clare broke up with him to be with Drew. Eli begs for her to not give up on their relationship, but she says it’s over and walks away. Later, Drew isn’t convinced that Clare is fully over Eli, and he tells her they can’t be together now because he doesn’t want to be her rebound relationship.
In my review of Everything Is Everything, I mentioned how specific parts of this Eclare/Clew story arch have been better than the story as a whole. The story as a whole finally comes to a head in Sparks Will Fly, as it all falls down with Degrassi dropping a world of nonsense on our heads with one of the more surprising moments in recent memory.
Things start off strong in Part 1. We see Clare reach an emotional breaking point. Her boyfriend refuses to call or message her back. She just wants to be free from the pain of the situation, so she impulsively breaks up with him with a voicemail. The things she said to Eli in part two are what you’d wish she’d said to him months ago. “I know I’m over being sad all the time,” Clare says, “wondering when you’ll call.” The ending of this episode was expected; Eclare would break up, but Drew would realize that dating Clare so soon after that is a bad idea.
In the season 11 episode Love Game, Jake Martin says, “Why does everything have to be so dramatic? Move on, Clare.”
A younger Clare Edwards responds, “Oh, just like that? Move on?!?!” This conversation took place after Clare publicly confronted Eli about him seeming indifferent toward her and their breakup.
A lot of things have happened since that moment. Clare has grown up, and in the case of her and Eli in Sparks Will Fly, she’s moved on. Or has she?
The odd part is that’s not even the most pressing question of the moment, which is why on earth did Clare Edwards have sex with Drew in this episode?
Clare’s path of being a character whose beliefs about sex have changed over the years has been understandable up until this point. She started off with strict Christian values that prohibited her from consenting to sex before marriage. Her parents’ divorce radically changed her values. She became open to having premarital sex, but only with someone she loved, explaining her desire to sleep with Jake and willingness to eventually sleep with Eli. But at what point in season 13 does Degrassi flip the switch and show us Clare’s sexual views shifting again, one where she’s okay with jumping Drew’s bones the first chance she gets, even if she has been lusting after him for a while? That’s the difference between her actions here making sense and her sleeping with Drew feeling like it was thrown in for shock value.
There’s a hollow feeling in Eli’s return as he hopes to avoid losing Clare for good, spitting out generic lines you’d expect from a character in his position. “Look I’m sorry Clare, long distance is hard but I promise it’ll get better!” he says. Munro Chambers is good at staring with tear-filled eyes. But as he stands there in front of Clare we’re reminded that amongst the “tell, not show” approach they’ve gone with Eli in this storyline, his supremely developed character has now been reduced to a plot device in season 13.
There’s an eerie parallel between Eclare’s interaction and how I view their scenes. Eli shows up hoping that the love he once shared with Clare will rekindle, but it doesn’t. Clare doesn’t care anymore. Degrassi has Eli show up and I find myself not caring that he’s there. There’s nothing left to care about. We’re supposed to feel the disconnect between Eli and Clare, but are viewers supposed to feel disconnected to the characters involved as well? Eclare isn’t just some run-of-the-mill couple on this show. A large amount of time has been dedicated to their development over the years. “Please, I don’t want our story to end this way, not like this,” Eli pleads. I’d like to think he means don’t end it by disintegrating the characters themselves into something that’s unrecognizable.

Zoë Plot Recap: Zoë is looking to land her first major role since West Drive, and fails to impress Brett during her first audition for his new movie. Mr. Perino is also on Zoë’s case because her marks are low, and she’s offered a spot on Degrassi’s quiz for extra credit. Tristan tells Zoë that being on the team is lame, and that she should use her sexual assault to her advantage to gain pity from Brett. During her second audition Zoë thinks of her assault while acting and becomes so emotional that she accidentally attacks her co-star. However, Brett’s so impressed that he gives Zoë the part anyway. Zoë receives the script and is shocked to learn that her character commits suicide in the end. She doesn’t want to play the victim role, so Zoë tries to get Brett to change the ending of the movie. When he refuses, Zoë quits because she doesn’t want to relive the pain of her sexual assault through that role.
Since her sexual assault, Zoe has struggled to find something she can hang her hat on. “Ever since that night, everything in my life feels tainted,” she says, pleading with Brett to give her the role.
After quitting the movie we see Zoë afraid to inform her mom, someone who makes all of Zoë’s career decisions for her. However, we also see multiple characters pressuring Zoë into taking on the role. Tristan is absurdly condescending at the idea of Zoë not fighting for a role and joining the Bright Sparks quiz team instead. “Bright Sparks? Zoë no, people will judge…people like me,” he says.
Later, Frankie convinces Zoë to talk to Brett about changing the ending. Of course this is futile; why would he change the ending for a teen star who’s been unemployed for a year? But when it comes down to it, Zoë makes the executive decision to quit. “I’m tired of being used by people,” she says to her mom, “by Brett, by Luke and by you.” All three situations are different, but up being the same because Zoë feels as if she has no control over her life or what happens in it. She’s spent her entire life in front of cameras, her every move determined for her. Quitting a movie role (that probably pays a good amount of money) may seem like a silly idea on the outside, but for Zoë Rivas it’s a big step to her living her own life and becoming the person she wants to be, not someone she’s told to be.

Kary, that was my problem with the way they wrote out Bianca. The actress that played her, Alicia Josipovic, even said her characters actions and behavior in that episode were “uncharacteristic.” Its like when a character leaves/graduates they want to diminish the viewers feelings for them. They lose their old spark and they are written for 1 episode to become nothing more than a bland plot device with no feelings or emotions connected to them as you suggested.

Besides Eclare and Drianca, I’ve been trying to think if any other major couples in the past have suffered that fate where they bring one of them back, then break them up in a way that makes the show seem like it’s done with them and are just brushing them off. Cranny’s breakup in season 6 is the only one I can think of at the moment though.

Jane never left, but they similarly brushed off her relationship with Spinner. The writers probably thought that by doing this, it would have been easier for fans to accept Spemma (LOL). I think they’re doing the same with Clew. In other words, breaking up a popular couple and making one party look bad so that the creator’s pets (Emma, Clare, Drew) look better by comparison.

If you want to get technical, Alex and Paige were sort of like that. They developed Alex and Paige from season 4 to 6 just to have Alex return for 3 episodes in season 7 only to go away forever like it was Alex’s fault in some very mediocre episode.

there’s lots of couples you could name that I consider brushed off; most famously being Palex in season 7; JimAsh which is debatable due to the amount of screen time Ashley got in the first place; Dylan and Marco though that’s also debatable considering the whole long distance aspect they were focusing on; Darcy and Peter as well as Mia and Peter; (yes I count them because we knew the actresses were leaving but they kind of brushed off both relationships like they were meaningless (not Mia and Peter so much but definitely Parcy)

Also Degrassi has a really bad habit of destroying relationships just because an actor has to leave or a character graduates! I mean I do understand the reasoning behind it when it comes to the characters graduating (the character that stays back will still need to have a life of their own) but they don’t always have to completely tear them apart.
I’m surprised that they never brought back Danny in season 10 to stomp all over Chantay’s heart (probably because it would have required actually giving Chantay a plot that didn’t always involve post it notes)

I think of dolly J and savvy J every time I see Eclare and Clew. the writers have gone lazy and are just repeating that whole love story. maybe they’ll leave clew togheter so they won’t repeat everything…probably not

I’m kinda pissed that Maya just completely overlooked Zig beating up Miles and just bashed on Miles when HE was the one who actually seemed to be making an effort to tolerate Zig. At the end, I was honestly expecting Maya to tell Zig that he scared her too, and that he wasn’t doing anything better than Miles, and that she was honestly trying to take his feelings into consideration but he kept stepping on them the second things didn’t go his way. The ending to their arc was enough to make me feel it was the worst storyline of the episode.
When it comes to Eli and Clare, I really wanted Eli to meet/talk with Clare BEFORE she hooked up with Drew. Don’t get me wrong, I think their couple time has passed, but I wanted her to have a proper conversation about how she felt without having Drew come into it. Also, I don’t really get Drew’s rebound argument…I mean didn’t they feel they had a connection even before the break-up?
All in all, I didn’t really like this episode. It had me cursing at the screen more than what I would have wanted. The only plot-line I could follow was Zoe’s.

Part of the issue is that Zig is two faced, he’s a lot less kind when he’s around not Maya people. So when Miles says “Zig kicked the crap out of me” to Maya, it’s an unbelievable claim. Because Zig baited Miles so expertly because Maya wasn’t around. If Maya had walked up in time to hear the ‘have fun with my sloppy seconds’ line, it’d be another matter. But Zig is doing his best to be a complete bastard.

I’m glad someone shares my frustration over how Maya completely overlooks the role that Zig plays in all of this drama. The sad thing is, this is Maya’s second triangle that Zig is involved in, the first one was with Cam and no one seems to remember the role that Zig played in that. Zig is the reason that Cam committed suicide. And now Zig is over here manipulating Maya again! Zig is the common denominator in Maya’s relationship issues and it’s so annoying how dumb she is to see it. She doesn’t even accept responsibility that she’s playing both of them. It’s so aggy.

I also felt upset about this episode partly because it left me wondering why the writers allowed Drew and Clare’s relationship to be left on a saddening cliffhanger. As much as I loved Eclare, we all know that sometimes it isn’t meant to last forever. Clare and Drew do have a chemistry, an odd one but I see how well they could end up with each other and I wish that they would have just allowed them to happen. I hope that they end up together because both deserve someone who doesn’t leave their relationships shredded (I.e Eli’s cheating and Bianca’s sudden change of heart).
As for Maya I do agree that her actions were just completely uncalled for because first of all she should have been honest and put her foot down by telling Zig that she is taken. Secondly, her telling Miles that he scares her? Um no what should scare you is the fact that Zig clearly isn’t taking no for an answer and that he fact that he regularly taunts and insults Miles (even Maya herself by the phrase “sloppy seconds” even though she isn’t aware of that yet) should ring an alarm to you as it should for anyone. I hope that Maya at least allows Miles to explain to her as she never really allowed him to have a chance to last nite.
Zoe, although I am proud of her character’s growing up and not being the “I’m the queen be over everything” so much is really refreshing. I hope that she continues to mature, but I would also like to learn the reason which everyone’s probably dying to know “Why’d she really lose her ‘West Drive’ role?”

I think Zig’s behavior lately has been all over the place. He’s horrible to Maya, then he’s nice, then he’s horrible, then he’s nice again. I get that he likes Maya and he has been upset lately because she doesn’t feel the same way, but he’s really being a jerk lately. Maya definitely should have been mad at Zig for beating up Miles. She has been driving me nuts lately by not paying attention to the fact that Miles is trying and Zig is just being an asshat. How can she not see it?! She’s going to end up with Zig. I hate Zig. I hope they are miserable together. Miles treats her a lot better than Zig does, and yet she keeps saying Miles is sooo scary. The gun was scary but it was fake. Miles wasn’t going to hurt Zig with a fake gun. He just wanted to put Zig in his place, he wasn’t trying to really hurt him. Zig OTOH was really trying to hurt Miles. I wish Maya would smarten up.
Clare and Drew should be together. They have the best relationship I’ve seen on Degrassi in a long time. It’s understandable that Clare still has feelings for Eli, they were together for a long time, but Drew needs to realize that it’s normal. Sometimes you have to end a relationship even though you still like that person. He wasn’t treating her the way she wanted/deserved to be treated so she left. It’s the right choice for Clare even if it’s hard for her.

The thing about Clare, and it’s an undercurrent in EVERY romantic plot she’s had, is she has a lot of physical desires. And she does her best to contain them by control of situation, but when the situation falls out of her control she makes impulsive choices about sex.
The original, of course, was her crush on Declan, she did her best to control herself until they were too physically close and she just… kissed his neck. Her kissing Jake went the same way, and her kissing Drew (both times) followed the pattern. The difference is that before Drew, she was a virgin, the idea of sex was foreign to her entirely. Her first kiss with Drew she wasn’t done with Eli yet.
This time, however, she had ‘closed’ the book on Eli. Even if it wasn’t the best, or most tactful way. She’s been wanting Drew for a little while, and doing what she could to bury/end those feelings. She tried to draw away at the last moment (pointing out the box with the scarecrow), but then they were physically close and she… made a choice. An impulsive hormone driven one.
So Clare’s having sex with Drew isn’t entirely out of left field, but at the same time it was completely added for the shock value of the scene. I mean, if you think about it, Clare’s desire for sex surpasses Drew’s when it comes to hook-ups, Drew has never actually initiated sexual activity with a girl. Bianca initiated with the Boiler Room, Katie did too at the party, Zoe did it at the other party.

Last night was a mess. honestly i only pride the show for the time theyre taking to making clare & drew actually happen and how theyre taking time to make maya & zig happen…everything else was a mess. i truly do not like Zoe she is irrelevant and they need to brainstorm better or bring me on the team to write a story cause i cannot deal! Season 14 better be breathe taking, coming from a season 2+ watcher.

Maya is honestly so blind and ignorant. I get that the thing with the gun freaked her out, but she didn’t even question the fact that Zig beat up Miles. Zig has always been hot-headed, but she just looks the other way. WE know she’ll end up with Zig because this plot is so poorly predictable, and not very good.(Don’t get me wrong, I love Degrassi!) At first I rooted for Miles, then Zig, and now Miles. Miles is in love with Maya, more than anything. Maya loves Miles, but is in love with Zig. It’s, and I’m sorry, the worst love triangle. When she ends up with Zig, I’ll just have to ignore that part and watch the rest of the show because I really cannot stand this story line. Miles and Maya are actually perfect. They both go back and forth between sweet and romantic to utterly idiotic. Zig is just hateful to romantic, hateful to romantic, and actually should scare Maya well more than Miles. Miles tries in the relationship(which should still be existent) and Maya just thinks the guy should be perfect. She far from perfect, and at this point deserves someone like Zig. Miles should end up with an amazing girl, not a girl like Maya who treats Miles like sh!t. In the end, i hope Miles and May work things out and be happy though. Of course this won’t happen. I hope someone writes a fanfic where they work out because I would enjoy that more than the show at this point.(AGAIN I STILL LOVE DEGRASSI. I JUST WISH THE PLOT WOULD BE MORE “DEGRASSI-ISH” , AND LESS ANNOYING. NO OFFENSE.) So, I hope or what’s right, and what everyone is dying to see, which is Matlingsworth! And I hope Zig finds another Maya basically. One could dream.
I actually cried when I saw Eli cry. Let me tell you the acting is amazing! Although you already know that. I wanted Eli and Clare to work out! I wanted little Eclare babies! Haha. Really though. Then he cheated and i began to hate him. Even though I feel bad, Clare and Drew need a shot. They are basically perfect now. Clare should be happy, and she wasn’t with Eli. SO who cares? Let them have sex and be together! They deserve it!
I still find myself hating Zoe, but I hate her a little less. I’m glad she is finally standing up for herself. She needed that.
Oh and where was Tristan and his teacher? I kinda wanted to see that. Go Tristan!
So I’m praying for Matlingsworth!!!! I SHIP THAT SO MUCH! I LOVE THEM! But if I need to, I can turn to fanfics. Even if no one makes one, I’ll make one! Ehh. Maybe not. But a girl can dream. I only hope the writers of Degrassi put them together next season!

You’re so right. Zig insulted Miles one whole time before Miles snapped and punched him in the face. Poor, rich, privileged, angry baby. They hit each other around the same amount of times, but Miles delicate face was bruised! Zig deserved to be threatened with what he thought was a real gun! How dare Maya break up with someone who scares her. How dare Maya choose to be single. How dare Zig and Maya decide they can still be friends. Things are just so hard for Miles. Maya has broken up with his unpredictable ass like three times this season for no reason! He’s just so sweet when he tries to buy her affection and lashes out at Zoe and his father and Drew and Maya and Zig. How can Maya say no to such a reasonable guy?! Maya should have just left Zig to solve his homelessness on his own! If she didn’t help her friend, Miles wouldn’t have had to prove Maya belongs to him.
On a serious note, I can’t think of one nice thing Miles has done that wasn’t an apology for messing up. (Maybe not being homophobic to Tristian? Is that being nice or just being a not shit human?)

I don’t think the fake gun threat was a good idea at all but I still hate Zig. I just can’t stand him because he treats Maya like crap unless he thinks she is romantically interested in him. Zig is always rude to Maya, insulting her and just being an asshat to her the whole time but as soon as he thought she’d date him he was suddenly nice to her. That’s a serious jerk move. Maya should not date someone who treats her like that. If someone isn’t your friend you should date them. Think about it, they have to like each other before they can love each other. Zig is horrible to Maya. I hope they start dating and he’s still a jerk to her so she will leave him and go back to Miles.

Miles goes to get Zig to show Maya he is the bigger person, but Zig blows him off because he was hurt by Maya (not blaming her at all) and wanted to be left alone (understandable). Miles grabs Zig’s arm, gives up, and starts to walk away. Zig is agitated, so he lashes out by calling Maya his sloppy seconds (uncalled for) to hurt Miles. So **MILES HITS ZIG**. Miles initiated physical contact TWO times. So Zig kicks his ass. Zig walks away, but Miles was embarrassed, so he has to go out of his way to escalate things AGAIN. He wants to scare the shit out of Zig with the fake gun, and as usual, takes things too far.
Miles is out of control. In the one season he’s been on the show, he has had problems with Zoe, Drew, his father, the police, Zig, and Maya. Sure he’s had a slightly hard year with his Dad being a cheater and being questioned (and quickly cleared) in an assault, but his life certainly isn’t hard. Despite all he has, he still blows up any time he’s slightly challenged. That’s scary. Every plot Miles is in, he is getting revenge on someone, causing Maya to leave him, or trying to win Maya back. Zig is no where near perfect, but he has had a horrific year and he’s still a better person (and more interesting character) than Miles.

Not defending MIles’ actions at all. I’m just irritated with Maya the way she’s handling it. She lays all the blame on Miles even though he’s at least trying to help her,though he often overreacts, while Zig makes lewd remarks about her and threatens to get her caught up in drug dealing matters. Zig seems to only care about himself. It’s fine if Maya wants to be single – at this point that seems like it would be best for everyone – but getting with Zig would be awful. She excuses him of any blame. And then when she references Cam as to her concern with Miles, that should apply to Zig as well. Not to mention that Zig was also a driving force behind Cam’s suicide, so there’s really reason to stay away from him. If they do end up together, I hope Zig does get busted on a drug deal and gets Maya caught up with it and they both go to jail and we don’t have to see them anymore, because the way they’ve done this relationship is terrible.
Actually, as someone who’s watched this show for many years, I think they’ve really messed up the younger group far worse than they have before. Usually they do a fairly good job of slowly introducing the younger group so when the older ones leave you’ll be cool with them. But now this whole group has become fairly unlikeable.

I really don’t see Zig as the better person. What kind of friend calls the girl he likes his “sloppy seconds” and who just enjoys provoking Miles either verbally or with smirks. One would think Zig has learned his lesson about watching what he says because words can lead to permanent results. Zig has spent so much time being a jerk to Miles and Maya, usually over his feelings not being returned. There’s a limit to when you can sympathize and when it’s just a guy being so butthurt. Zig is also involved in sketchy behavior, be it actually selling drugs, having connections to drug dealers, or whatever have you. Being involved in that is scary, whether you’re physically involved or socialize with someone involved. Zig was kicked out and became homeless from his own actions, we didn’t see any indication that he was unloved pre paris, whereas Miles has no control over who his parents are and how they behave.
In the greenhouse, Miles was again trying to hand out an olive branch to Zig for the sake of Maya, but again it backfires, and I don’t recall Zig ever making that attempt without it being a way to make a snide remark. Neither boy had to get physical with the other, but Zig wanted the last word and transferred his rage at Miles instead of just talking with his “friend” Maya. Heck, there wouldn’t have been a physical altercation if Zig had just kept quiet. And of course, he acts like he had no idea why Miles was pissed off, like no one would be offended by his words when Maya is the one that offered up her home, and benefits from Maya not even bothering to listen to everything. Has she never heard what people say about assuming? Quite honestly, the three should spend more time maturing and setting goals that will benefit their lives, not dating.

Yeah Zig is a jerk on and off to Miles and Maya. He did have a right to be angry with Maya, though. She stopped talking to him after Paris for no reason. Any friend would be hurt by that. He felt abandoned by her, so when she chose Miles over him he was hurt all over again. Is it a lot to ask that Zig has one day to be alone and wallow a bit? He was mad at them, big deal! Miles swung at Zig first. Miles always explodes over any problem. Zig called Maya his sloppy seconds after she turned him down. He was a jerk. Miles called Maya a slut because she made a music video he didn’t like. He was a bigger jerk.
Zig is a better person because we’ve seen him be a better person. With his mother, with Tori, with Maya, with his teacher. Miles on the other hand has been combative and jerky since we first saw him. Yeah Miles can’t choose his parents, but we don’t know why Zig was kicked out. We’ve seen him associated with drugs once. (We’ve also seen Miles use drugs) Since then we have no proof he’s actually dealing or just knows someone who does.
Miles and Zig have both been turned into villains by the writers. They’re both being shitty. The difference is Miles was introduced as a privileged bad boy who didn’t care about anyone else. Zig was has had plots where he was a total asshole, but also ones where he was really sweet (for not selfish reasons). I see Zig as someone who’s having a really hard time and taking it out on other people who he feels hurt or abandoned by (not that that’s right). I see Miles as someone who’s always gotten what he wants and the second things aren’t perfect he blames everyone else and explodes.
Ps not all drug dealers are scary.

Maree, not all Drug dealers are scary. But people who time after time pick the most emotionally manipulative and cruel answers to everyone around him are. S12 Zig had his kinder moments, but then there was his reactions to seeing Maya with someone else, where he did THE EXACT SAME ROUTINE he’s got on now with Miles.
He acts like a gentleman (mostly) to Maya, but to Cam and Miles he has made every effort to drive them off. With Cam he attacked how good he is for Maya, with Miles he attacked how attached Maya is to him. You’re missing that while Zig is trying to do good for Zig, Miles is trying to do good for Maya.
We’ve seen Miles be good too, he instantly pushed Zoe away when he saw her treatment of Maya at the dinner. His anger at his father was due to a stance of morals, more than just a rebellious bad boy. His attempts to work it out with Zig were to make Maya happy. When he stopped being an idiot over Zoe’s assault, he stood up for her more than just out of guilt.
Both boys have made terrible choices, but while Miles jumps to extremes fastest, Zig does no favors pushing the issue each time. Miles ratted Zig out to the school because Zig made it clear his intentions to not just ‘be friends’ with Maya. Miles punched Zig, because Zig attacked Maya. Zig has been wallowing in manpain for the entire season, and all he seems to care about is himself now. Not that the guy who cheated on his girlfriend was much better.

To be realistic, all three characters need serious help. Zig needs to stop being an asshole, and also needs anger-management. Miles also needs anger-management. Maya needs to seriously evaluate her life, take a second and think. Really the writers, as Maree said, are turning everyone into a shitty person.(In this sub-story) They make every character suddenly turn stupid. I am, though, on Team Miles. Maya should at least just make up with him and say that she should have addressed both the boys problems, not just Miles’. She really should stay single for a little bit to figure out what she wants though. I do want her back with Miles in the end though. They, somehow, work, at least when Zig was out of the picture.

I know people will say that I shouldn’t judge Drew by his past actions, but he has proven over and over again that he’s a terrible boyfriend, which is why I LOL at him saying that Clare deserves better. I’m no Eli or EClare fan, but Drew has cheated on three different girls and then there’s the very recent Zoe thing. He still hasn’t proven that he’s capable of treating a girl right. I also love how it’s perfectly OK for him to use Zoe as a rebound, but heaven forbid somebody do the same to him. I guess Drew can dish it out but he can’t take it. He’s like a male Emma Nelson.
Of course, this is a moot point, because the writers think that Clare is a special snowflake, so of course Drew will suddenly change his ways for her. Gag.

I don’t see how Maya could have ever thought there was anything good to come of sending Miles to find Zig. She knew at the end of Part 1 how much tension Miles had towards Zig over him interfering in their relationship and claims to be “oh so scared of him” and yet she decides to send him? It’s suggested she thinks Zig is capable of self-harm and that is serious, but apparently not serious enough for her to miss her show. If she really thought he was capable of doing something “Cam-Like” then she should have missed her show and handled things herself if it was that much of a worry to her. Total poor judgement on Ms. Matlin’s part.

So I know this is a minor point, but I hope we see a lot more of Frankie. She has the potential to be an “it girl” involved in all sorts of in-crowd drama, but I think she’s more likeable than Zoe. She comes across as a really good friend. Even though she apparently gives unrealistic advice and doesn’t know that much about the acting world, she means well. I don’t know. She’s not as much of a mean girl. She’s like Anya was to Holly J. And just like Anya, I hope she eventually gets her own spotlight, like deserves.

It’s looking like Frankie, Grace, and Tiny are all set-up characters for next season to help close the gaps when people graduate. I’m glad Degrassi is planning ahead in such a way.

I keep thinking about those scenes they shoot in NY or whatever and I don’t really understand where it would fit in quite frankly. The way they created this story was horrible, cutting Eli out of the story making everyone mad at him. I think it’s funny that they always talked about Eli staying in NY and him not visiting Clare I mean he is a full time college student who doesn’t seem to have a well paid job how the hell is he supposed to finance all those trips. If Drew and Clare are such a good team why didn’t Clare ask Drew to take over Student Council for a weekend and visit Eli? I am a huge Eclare fan and I can understand if they have to break up but the whole relationship just didn’t make sense to me since Eli cheated on Lenore. Something like that can happen and I don’t condone it whatsoever but everything after that was so untypical for Eli I have hated their storyline ever since. Any oppinions?

I just feel that the reason Drew did what he did was his insecurities toward Eli. Everything was fine until Eli showed up out the blew. Then his talk with Dallas put that rebound crap in Drew’s head. After what he said to Clare he left before she can say anything… I hope they clear this up before Clare goes on an rampage of not trusting men anymore. I can see this happening. I am still all for Clare and Drew but OMG this will be a nightmare for a while. This has nothing to do with Ego its lack of communication that Clare, Drew & Eli have a problem with.

Honestly, I don’t think that Drew and Clare had sex too quickly. They have been paired up and working intimately for a while now. We have watched their relationship go from adversarial to friendly to romantic. They were both there for one another through difficult times in their relationships (he helped her through the Lenore thing and she helped him through his break up with Bianca), and as Clare pointed out, Drew was actually a big fixture in her life when she went through cancer. If you think about it, Drew being the first person to see Clare bald is very telling. It shows her willingness to “strip down” emotionally in front of him, which is something she was never able to fully do with Eli. Hell, she didn’t even want him to see her sans wig at first! Although a lot of people see Drew as dumb and not intellectually stimulating enough for Clare, he is actually the perfect balance for her overly analytic persona. She needs someone who isn’t so serious all the time because, to be frank, she is serious enough for the whole friggin’ school!
The Eclare relationship has become completely stale and this is only more fully symbolized by the cheating incident with Lenore. Funny that her name is the same as a woman often cited in poems by Edgar Allen Poe about the “loss of love”. The thing about Eli is that his whole life is this epic tale, but he’s so busy telling the story that he’s forgotten to actually live it. He has a romanticized view of his relationship with Clare, comparing it to the great love stories written by classic novelists, but unlike the characters in the novels, he’s not really connecting with the woman he supposedly loves. It’s like their whole relationship is a movie and they’re watching it play out instead of being the roles. As for the argument that Clare hasn’t gone to see Eli, I think it’s been made pretty clear that she has tried to contact him ad nauseum with little to no response. I don’t care who you are. If you truly love someone, you MAKE time for them. Clare is just as busy with student council and prepping for college, but she took the time out to call Eli as much as she could because she cared. And that’s the thing about caring. If you love someone, you find a way to include them in your life. No matter how busy you are…
With Drew, things are real and tangible. He’s the perfect person to exemplify this truth because he’s an athlete, so everything is about physicality and touch. I kind of like that…the idea that she has someone she can hold, as opposed to just a notion of epic love. It also explains that fierce passion that ignites between them. For months they have been “holding back” from jumping each other because of one thing– her relationship with Eli. But as Clare explained, the relationship was over months ago and she had already moved on. With the barrier gone, it was inevitable that these two were going to let the fire rage…and rage it did. When we spend all our time fighting passion, it bottles up and, BLAMMO! As Uncle Joe says to Charlie in Willy Wonka, “Remember when you once asked me how a bullet comes out of a gun?” It’s the same here– when you have all that fierce pressure building and building over a long period of time you get…well, you get fire works!! :-p

Oh my god I LOVED reading all that! Must say if you haven’t started a degrassi review blog please do so I’d love to read it. You seem to have such good insight and I for one love epic romances and I think that’s why I love Eclare so much but I guess it’s not realistic. Great words!:)
