In tonight’s episode, Manny Maya tries to change her good-girl image by doing some naughty things. The hope is that this change in behavior ties in deeply with how Cam’s death has affected her (she’s seemed virtually unphased by it up until this point).
I feel like the fandom is going to make Clare vs. Drew irritating to watch. It’s already started because in general the fans who hate Clare and the fans who hate Drew are passionate about their position, and are unwilling to change said position regardless of what the characters do. It’s either “Vote for Drew because Clare’s a bitch,” or “Vote for Clare because Drew’s a jerk.” Nothing is ever mentioned about who can or can’t do the job based on their actual abilities.
It’s just like real-life political campaigns, where we’re basically told to vote for someone simply because “the other guy is evil,” but neither Clare nor Drew is as bad as their haters perceive them to be. If this plot plays out how I hope, it’s a win-win for both.
There’s more than the presidency at stake here; Clare and Drew’s future relevance in Season 13 is at risk as well. You have two characters whose love interests are graduating. Clare will need something to do, and Drew will need something to not only keep him occupied, but also show us that he’s matured.

I don’t like Clare OR Drew, but it doesn’t at all make sense for Drew to run for president. I mean, who drops out of high school and then comes back and runs for class president? He’s not even taking a full course load.

I like both characters. However I agree with Ally that its strange to drop out, take half a course load, and expect to be class President. I would vote for Clare.

This looks to be a rehash of the Sav vs. Holly J plot. We have the good looking casually capable popular who has no idea what they are getting into, and the capable Type-A kid who has alienated a large portion of the school by being aloof and self-centered.
Clare might not have the longer history of Holly J, but with Stuff Clare Says and Cake to be thrown at her, we might also get a rehash of “Did you ever love me at all, did you flip a switch and erase me from your memory” in the plot.

can’t stand that talia girl don’t care too much for drew or claire, if he needed extracurriculars surely degrassi has non-athletic extracurricular activities, what happened to the news paper, he could have written a sport column, why go from one extreme to another, but i guess we’ll see how degrassi goes with this story line, by the way is adam on vacation in africa or something

A Plot – I’m very glad that the Degrassi writers decided to make Maya’s plot be the A Plot for Zombie. I did not watch the episode preview because I did not want any spoiler alerts. The plot is interesting since we get an in depth look at how Cam’s suicide has affected Maya’s emotions. Zig definitely saw this when he witnessed Maya drinking at Drew’s campaign party. The scene at the beginning was perfect which Zig rejects Maya’s desire to have a date with him since he believes it would disrespect Cam. Maya pulls a Manny Santos in this episode by dressing more “slutty”, as Katie subtly puts it, to get boys’ attention. She basically reenacts the hallway scene from “U Got The Look” only this time with a flashy bra and slutty music to fit the moment perfectly. Just seeing how Cam’s suicide has set such a dynamic for all of the characters this season has just been fantastic. It’ll be interesting to see how things unfold in next week’s episode for Maya as we’ll see her finally process Cam’s suicide.
B Plot – I’m surprisingly impressed with how Drew’s run for presidency has been handled. I said it once and I’ll say it again…the fact that the election is between two characters who did not have much interaction on this show is what makes the plot interesting. You can tell that Drew is no way equipped for the job when he laughs off the fact that he is nominated. However, with the help of Bianca I think he can able to put in hard work and be responsible in order to win the election. I liked the scene between Drew and Clare at the Torres house. Here you have Clare blatantly saying that Drew is smart for the job, due to her prior knowledge of Drew, then you have Drew stopping her right in her tracks with his arrogance to the point where she pushes him into the kiddie pool. The scene itself basically represents that there are no sides to choose when it comes to a matter like this. Just watching these two battle it out with their personalities in next week’s episode will be compelling to see.
C Plot – I am not sure what to think of Connor’s plot yet but seeing his Asperger’s syndrome tie in with the fact that he wants to be alone with Jenna is interesting. He was so oblivious to the fact that pairing Alli with Eli would be a mistake and their reactions to it were realistic. I guess this plot will lead to Connor trying to give a “happy ending”, as Eli says, to both Eli and possibly Dave in next week’s episode. Still, the fact that the plot is centered around the show’s underdog is what this plot worth watching. We shall wait and see.

Didn’t care much for last week’s episode, but I’m loving this one so far. Maya always gets really interesting storylines. Can’t wait to see the repercussions of her posting that video to Facerange.
I didn’t care about Drew’s plot, except that it produced a party where Maya could be all crazy.
Connor is so endearing. Love how his Asperger’s is making everything so awkward. Also, I love Eli without Claire; he is so much more interesting.
I’m excited to see the conclusion next week!

I would be quicker to root for Clare than Drew. While Drew does have potential, as he’s a people person and Clare can be abrasive and annoying, the fact that he’s only running as a joke/because he’ll be lonely next year puts me off. Why can he run because he’ll be without Bianca next year, but still humiliate Clare because he thinks she’s running because she’s lonely without Eli? Clare is most likely running to pad her resume for uni considering how her internship went, but at least she has ideas and is taking it seriously.
This does remind me of Sav vs. Holly J. I really felt sorry for Holly J. because while she needed the presidency to get into Yale, Sav just felt like running and liked the attention.
It’s hard to get behind Drew when he’s not even serious about school. After dropping out, reenrolling, and only taking a few classes he thinks he’s in a position to run? If he doesn’t have the ability to even take a full roster of classes, why should he run for a very time consuming position? He should spend that time working hard on his marks, not finding the club he has the least chance of doing well in and making it his focus. There are so many clubs and sports, why choose this? The fact is Drew isn’t smart. He has brain damage. It’s not something he can control, but that doesn’t mean a more capable person shouldn’t be president.

I agree with your points. It makes for a good storyline but its unrealistic. First of all Bianca would want Drew in a more limited, controlling environment. As President he will get the attention of more cheerleaders, girls that want to go to parties with him, etc. I could see Bianca volunteering him to be a mentor, or big brother, to a kid from a broken home that wants to fit in or do better. All this said I’m looking forward to their possible debate next week.

I have to say that after seeing part one, I am definitely looking forward to part two. 12C has been an excellent run so far by and large. These episodes in the last part of the season are interesting in the fact that they aren’t exactly leading up to some sort of all encompassing conclusion. Since the emotional “stunner” wasn’t at the end of the season, like some cliffhanger that is always expected, it is refreshing to see the various characters dealing with a tragedy that has affected them, albeit its mostly the niners (primarily Maya and Zig) and Dallas to an extent.
The A plot has been set up expertly. Maya is the last character to not only accept Cam’s death, but deal with its finality emotionally and psychologically. She has basically resisted her emotions, although by the end of Zombie it seems she has at least accepted that Cam is dead finally. It’s just that she wants to escape from the fallout of it, seemingly putting off confronting her feelings about it, and it makes it completely realistic when relating to kids nowadays it seems. Some deal with tragedy better than others, and unfortunately the ones closest are the ones that seems to handle it the worst. Either way, this whole event is going to build Maya’s character towards next season in ways that I certainly look forward to seeing.
The B plot to me has been fairly interesting in that it as well will set up two characters for their final season on the show next year. They both are losing their love interests, whether because of a breakup or college. The way they are going to start out a large section of their last season will hinge on this election, at least I’m guessing. Once again, this should be very compelling to watch, as Matt said.
The C plot to me didn’t make a whole lot of sense. I get that this is Connor’s first relationship and his Asperger’s will affect his outlook and decision making because of it. I just think that this wasn’t the best way of going about developing Jonnor’s relationship, considering through his whole run on Degrassi he has had such precious little air time compared to quite a few of the other main characters. I will still be curious to see if this twists into something unexpected though.
