PLOT A SUMMARY: After learning about Katie going off to rehab, Fiona and Imogen see this as the perfect time to get revenge by stealing the student council reins from Marisol.  Meanwhile, Eli figures out that Fiona has a crush on Imogen, but Fiona downplays it because she doesn’t think Imogen is interested.  Fiona comes up with a plan to one-up Marisol and pitches her plan to Principal Simpson: she wants to create a holiday carnival.  Fiona wants to withdraw money from her trust fund to cover the cost of the carnival, but her mom won’t let her for reasons she refuses to explain.  Fiona writes a check anyway and begins to coordinate the carnival with Imogen.  Fiona returns home one day to find the police and her lawyer in her loft.  Her lawyer informs her that her mom was arrested because of pending financial issues with her mom’s foundation.  Fiona chats with her mom, who is under house arrest, via skype.  Her mom tells her that their assets are frozen and she wants Fiona to move back home to New York.  She also sent Holly J to stay with Fiona for a few days and help her pack.

Fiona starts feeling the pressure as Simpson wants her to scale down the carnival and she doesn’t have the $11,000 she needs to pay toward the carnival, all while Marisol is gloating at Fiona’s impending failure.  Fiona takes out her frustration on Imogen, telling Imo that she’s moving away and the carnival isn’t going to happen.  Imogen is upset that Fiona’s giving up so easily, so Fiona comes up with an idea to get the cash by selling all of her stuff.  Fiona raises the cash and ends up riding the Ferris wheel with Imogen, and Fiona finally confesses her feelings and ends up kissing her.  Imogen kisses Fiona back and tells her she feels the same way, but isn’t completely sure about her sexuality yet.  Fiona also plans to do whatever it takes to make sure she can stay at Degrassi.

Fimogen in this episode suffers from the same issue that has plagued them since their inception:  their development is rushed.  Fimogen’s chemistry as friends is strong and enjoyable.  The best thing about watching them is that fact that we get to see Imogen be her fun, quirky self.  But up until the moment where Imogen initiated a kiss with Fiona there was never a hint of where Imogen stood on the matter, let alone a reason as to why Fimogen should be a couple.  Everything about them has almost been completely one sided because we’ve only seen Fiona’s side of the story, and even that seemed to be a hodgepodge of randomness in this episode.  Her family’s money issues felt contrived and bled irony as Holly J was there as Fiona’s support system (If you’ll remember Holly J had her own money woes not once, but twice).

Even more random is Fiona magically selling her possessions to come up with the necessary cash for the carnival.  And that beef with Marisol? By the end of the episode it had been dropped like a hot potato. It’s bizarre that the only consistencies within this episode are the flat momentum and the inconsistencies within the story itself.

PLOT B SUMMARY: With Katie out, Liam has decided to postpone the school paper for the rest of the semester.  Clare’s against the idea, and decides to find her own team of writers to help her put together the paper.  Clare asks Alli, Jenna, KC and Connor for help, but Alli scoffs at the idea.  KC and Connor eventually get on board, voluntarily creating the paper‘s layout.  Clare tries to apologize to Alli, who finally gets everything she’s been feeling about their feud off her chest.  Clare begs Alli to give her another chance, but Alli just walks away.  Eventually Alli and Jenna come around to help with the paper, and so does someone else from Clare’s past: Eli.

After Clare proofreads Eli’s article he asks her out to lunch.  She abruptly declines because she doesn’t think it’s a good idea.  Later Clare finds Eli in the memorial garden and apologizes for overreacting because she didn‘t want them hanging out to trigger his issues again.  Eli asks Clare if they could ever pick up where they left off before things went awry in their relationship and Clare accidentally spills soup on him.  Clare and the gang successfully complete their newspaper, and afterward she and Eli hang out at the carnival.  He asks Clare if she was really worried about them hanging out setting him off and she says “It wasn’t you I was worried about.”  As Eli walks away to meet his dad he turns around because he needs to know what Clare meant by that, and that’s when she kisses him.  Before Eli can say anything Clare tells him to hold onto whatever he’s thinking and they’ll talk about it when he gets back from winter break.

Everything involving the core group of Clare, Alli, KC, Connor and Jenna was simply fantastic.  Them coming together to work on the newspaper is one of those moments where truly appreciate them as a group because of the realization that they’ve drifted apart, and it’s been ages since they were together as a whole.

As far as Eclare goes, on one hand I enjoyed the way they ended the episode.  To me the kiss doesn’t signify their immediate reconciliation, but only establishes that they’ll slowly work on rebuilding their relationship in the future.  The one nagging issue though is Clare’s behavior…where in the heck did this come from?

Thinking back Degrassi does have a tendency to make certain major couples rekindle their relationship out of nowhere.  For the most part Cranny basically went a year without speaking to each other before Manny randomly started seeing Craig in a positive light (and Craig kissed her) in “Weddings, Parties, Anything.” Even though they hung out in the same social circle, Jimmy and Ashley literally went years without acknowledging each other’s existence.  Then not only does Ashley return to Degrassi out of the blue in “High Fidelity,” but she randomly tells Jimmy how amazing he is and kisses him.  Looking at the bigger picture of Season 11 Clare and Eli hadn’t talked to each other since the end of the summer.  With Eli we could always assume that he’d have lingering feelings for Clare, but we hadn’t received enough clarity on where she stood on things (besides her forever being overly cautious).  The way that Eclare got from “Point A” to “Point Kiss” is the direction things needed to go, I’m just disappointed that they packed all of this into one episode just to rush things along.

****************

PLOT C SUMMARY: Maya is getting bored with her music class because she’s far more advanced than the other students…she’s so bored actually that it causes her to talk back to Ms. Oh.  Maya can’t even practice at home because Katie needs her rest after long days at rehab, so Maya begins to feel like she’s losing her passion for music.  She wants to be bumped up to a more advanced class, but because she can’t Ms. Oh suggests Maya spend class time studying music theory.  While doing that she finds an ad in the paper for an Indie band looking for a string musician.  She tries to sneak out to the audition which is at a bar, but her dad catches her.  She tells him how she feels like music is no longer a challenge, and her dad tells her she has to find a way to make it challenging for herself.  Maya rejoins the grade nine band and has found a new way to challenge herself by taking up the trumpet.

Maya’s plight is very relatable, but ultimately forgettable in the scope of things.  People will remember Fimogen, Eclare, and the “old school niners” from this episode (none of them being overdramatic in any fashion), not the fact that Maya’s losing her passion for music and decides to start playing the trumpet.  Part 1 did a good job of setting things up, but then Maya’s plot gets lost in the shuffle of the episode’s big carnival theme in Part 2.  She’s still so incredibly likable and hands down my favorite of the niners, but there’s nothing that made this stand out to me.

  1. Agreed. I like Eclare but the way Teennick promotes them is ridiculous. And what’s unfortunate is that those who do support Eclare are caught in the Teennick crossfire, and automatically labelled as “crazed fangirls”.

OMFG, Fimogen!!!!!!!!!!! Never saw that coming, esp. coming from Imogen’s POV.

And aww, eclare. What a good way to end the season.

Saw the promo for season 12. Don’t know what exactly is going on, but I’m interested to start off the season with a fresh outlook, even though everyone looked pissed. Nonetheless, I’m so pumped up for season 12 of Degrassi!

  4. Does anyone else think that the “teams” Munro mentioned are Team Degrassi/Team Lakehurst? What if Lakehurst has finally been rebuilt and they are making the students choose schools? Or what if they have a new policy where only those who live within a certain range of Degrassi can go to school there and the others have to go to Lakehurst? Idk. Just a theory.

About the finale. I loved the Eli and Clare plot even though I’m sick to death of them. Fiona and Imogen? Saw that coming from miles away!

  7. Fimogen feels forced. Eclare feels more authentic now then they did in season 10, but I still could care less about them. I still don’t have any connection to the freshmen. And Holly J was just kind of there.

The best part about the episode was the reunion of Ali, Clare, Jenna, KC and Connor, which is the focus of Clares plot in part 1 but completely shafted in part2.

  8. So…maybe I’m in the minority on this, but I thought this episode was terrible. It completely deflated in the second half.

Fiona’s plot started off so strong and brilliantly. And it continued to keep up the momentum…until the Fimogen kiss. I shipped Fimogen, and possibly still do, since it’s too soon to call I think. But I felt zero chemistry between the two. And I felt that there was not near enough development on Imogen’s side to make it believable that she would kiss Fiona back. And the ending was just wrapped up a little too nicely, little bow and all. Hopefully there will be some good Fimogen action next season to make up for this abomination of a plot, and we actually get some IMOGEN development. Grade: C+

Clare’s plot really suffered from the exact same thing that Fiona’s did, wrapping up so nicely without much development. The Eclare kiss made me roll my eyes. However, at least we have development on this couple, unlike Fimogen. I’m left missing the supposed Clare-insomnia-plot…still, I am happy Alli and Clare have made up. Regardless, another weak plot. Grade: D+

Oh my god…the third plot…what was it? There was no substance. At all. Nothing happened. Except Maya just got content with staying in grade 9 band. Grade: F

    2. Excellent! But you know what would really tear apart Degrassi? An EXPLOSIVE, love-child-producing affair between Simpson and Oh. Let’s face it, this show needs a healthy dose of old-school, adult lovin’. Kissing on a ferris wheel – who better to show the kids how its done than the only two adults who remotely qualify as regular characters. So many questions to answer: Will the child’s name be OJ or Uh? Will the kid be a musician or an athlete? Gay or straight? Insufferably clueless or cluelessly insufferable? A love interest of Claire or Eli? Will KC attempt a hostile adoption? Will Mo accidentally eat it for breakfast?

  10. Ramona Bracket writes the best scripts for Degrassi now. Whoever they keep letting write these crap fest scripts needs to be downgraded. I’m not happy about the finale either. It hardly kept my attention. Degrassi needs something new because I don’t see it lasting but maybe 3 more years tops. I have been there since season 1 episode 1 and Degrassi lost its magic in season 8. But they regained it in season 10. They need something extremely fresh next seasons.

Connor stay being honest, the best policy. Awesome for Clare to buy everyone pizza, how a true leader rewards the team for their hard work. Marisol and Fiona truced it up, which is cool. Holly J looking real good.

  13. I am being honest, This is the EP and Underneath it all were not up to par. It felt forced awkward and unrealistic. Fiona treated Imogen like crap in this Epsoide far more worse than Underneath it All. Imogen liking Fiona back. Really, The Fiomgen kiss was like watching two teenagers kissing for the first time. And we now Imogen can kiss she kissed Eli with so much more passion and not with Fiona. Eclare is Eclare they are rushed to Another coupling for no reason. Maya’s story was the only one I actually liked because Maya is more realistic. If they keep this up I may stop watching.

    3. “The Fiomgen kiss was like watching two teenagers kissing for the first time”

Which, given the situation, one could argue they sort-of, kind-of were. I know that’s a stretch given the lack of Imogen’s development in the plot, but the argument could be defended.

I do tend to agree with you. I suspect, however, the scene primarily suffered – as far too many scenes have suffered this season – from a shocking lack of direction. Let’s first consider that these are fairly young actors being asked to do something that, for them, might take a bit of nerve. Not every actor is Hilary Swank. That said, I don’t blame the actors, I blame the director. Ignore for a moment the laughably poor lighting – or at least the failed attempt to use shadows (especially on Annie’s face) to create an intimate tone. The director could have, and indeed should have, HELPED the actors with the scene. Watch it again and ask yourself: Were these actors (particularly Christine) directed AT ALL? Or were they simply told to “wing it,” or “go with your feelings,” or some other preposterous non-direction? Everything about that scene screams “Cut!” Even a few minutes of preparatory guidance from a semi-competent director could have made a significant difference (e.g., “Christine, think about how your hands might react to the sudden kiss, how you might hold your breath for a couple of beats afterward, how after the second kiss you might reflexively reach for her hair or cheek…” etc. etc.) Give the actors a legitimate chance to do their job, and the scene could have been a home run. Leave them hanging out to dry, and you get…well, exactly what we got.

  14. This wasn’t a great finale, but when has Degrassi, apart from S2, had a really great one ever? It was at least better than last season’s finale, and at least everyone’s happy… for now. The first half of S11 was nothing but a huge ball of sad, so I welcome this type of ending.

Folly J being there just reminded me what’s so lacking with Fimogen. I enjoy them, I find them cute, and I like Fiona being truly happy with someone for once, but I can’t buy it. It’s too rushed for me. But at least they’re better than 90% of the couples Degrassi throws at us these days. There’a lightheartedness I like with them, and I love that Imogen really seems like herself around Fiona. I also feel like Fiona lets her guard down with Imogen, which is nice as well. Beyond the Fimogen fluff, I want to see where Fiona’s family situation takes her. I know they already did the rich girl gone broke story with Holly J, but it feels much more detrimental for Fiona whose character does sort of hinge on her rich lifestyle. Marisol isn’t completely wrong when she said, “If you weren’t rich, who would you even be?” Speaking of Marisol, I guess their feud is sort of over? I suppose we’ll see what happens when Katie comes back.

I have conflicted feelings about Eclare… on the one hand, it’s just SO nice to not see them fighting and being tense around each other all the time. Seeing them flirtatiously banter again reminded me why I love them. But their issues are still so, so unresolved. Which is why that clip of them tensely looking at each other in the S12 promo makes me nervous. Can they just not fight anymore and be friends for awhile? I’m glad that after they kissed, Clare said that they’d talk when Eli gets back from the holidays. I want a talk between them, and I want it now. I’ll never be happy with them again if that doesn’t happen.

I guess it’s just me, but Maya’s plot was my favorite tonight! I felt an affinity for her immediately because she’s so relatable for me. I’ve felt held back by the high school system before, so I totally know where she’s coming from. Feeling uninspired and unmotivated by the thing you love is definitely disheartening. I like that she found a new way to challenge herself musically all while bonding with Tori and Tristan. I feel like she’s the outcast of the niners, and she does it on purpose, so it’s nice to see them connect.

  16. like kary said, they are here just to make money andget people to watch. We all know that many fans (including me at times) wanted eclare and fimogen. i feel that the kiss was to show that they still have feelings for eachother, and i think that the whole “eli helping clare and going away for the holidays” was to show that they need to talk about unresolved conflicts and that they cant just rush into another relationship. i think that in season 12, we will get to see that. I think that its stupid how you see a character u like with some one new and automatically people say “omg i hate hi/her! they are going to mess everything up!”. They dont even know if there is even a real conversation between them. Also, i know this is a drama show, but u cant expect everyone to be unfaithfull. Ya, they mess up, but not always what the problem actually is. Take eli for example, some thought that eclare might not last because of their differences, but actually they did. Its just that eli had a disorder that he cant just ignore. none of us expected that. So, i just think that we should just wait until season 12 premires and see what happens.

Holly J is my favorite character, plus I got to see my favorite degrassi crew become friends again and work together, and the Alli and Clare moments were so cute <3 Also Clare wasn't annoying for once this episode! And I never liked Eclare but I love it so much now, because it isn't centered around his problems and more on their real feelings…or more like Clare's real feelings. The Fiona and Imogen thing was kinda meh, but I liked the twist about her family going bankrupt.

Overall this was a good episode, but I don't know if I would say it was a good finale.

Psh, I feel like one of the few people who actually like Fimogen. Hahah, well maybe it’s just cause after the horror of Fiona/Charlie, Fiona/Imogen is just a LOT better?? Seriously, until Fiona/Charlie happened, I never thought a pairing worse/as bad as Peter/Mia was even possible. I liked Eclare in this episode. I’m not a fangirl of theirs. Sooo not, but I do like them (although the amount of story Clare gets! Just way too much. I can’t handle it). I look forward to s12. Hoping it’s a good one–better than these last few.

The finale was a good way to end it because I liked seeing everyone get a fresh start for the holidays (Alli, Jenna, Clare, KC, and Connor making up, Fiona and Imogen finally revealing their feelings for each other, Maya bonding with Tori and Tristan). However, 11.5 as a whole was just unimpressive to me. Hopefully s12 will bring a little less relationship drama and more personal problems.

  20. Part 1 of this was awesome, but like people have said, Part 2 definitely fell flat and it’s kinda sad.

I see the natural chemistry between Fimogen, but at the end, everything felt unrealistic and rushed. We’ve seen subtle hints in the past episode that Imogen likes her, but Imogen all of a sudden kissing her and then not feeling the slightest bit uncomfortable/confused seems kind of unrealistic. Maybe if we would have already known that Imogen had been questioning herself for a long time, like years, and already realized she was probably bisexual (she seems more pansexual to me), but they threw in the whole “questioning” thing yet not the slightest bit uncomfortable/confused.

Eclare sort of makes sense. If Clare didn’t act so uncomfortable around Eli all throughout Now or Never, it would have made sense if she had very little feelings and she knew hanging out with him while sane would make those feelings resurface, but she seemed pretty “in” to Jake, so I’m not sure if those little feelings actually existed. Whatever, my head hurts from thinking about this. Fuck logic when it comes to Degrassi.

I hope the Fiona’s money issues plot continues into Season 12. And I hope Fimogen encounters some rockyness, it’s sort of unrealistic for them to just be a couple right now. I hope Eclare doesn’t just get back together, they should talk about their problems first.

    1. I totally agree on the Imogen being pansexual (I seriously thought I was the only person thinking that till I read your comment). I kinda thought that since they introduced her character and always though she would be cute with Adam, but I also like her with Fiona.

I just hope we see in season 12 some explanation to Imogen’s actions of the kiss and such, since I did see some chemistry sexually between the two throughout these past episodes, but nothing truly definite.

the fiomogen is not so bad, in the new beginnings, since fiona came back to degrassi, imogen kinda always had a weird crush on fiona…but imogen initiating a kiss is unrealistic…what’s more realistic of fiona initiated the kiss and imogen didn’t resist, then turn away or something and says she thinks she likes fiona but doesnt wanna be in a relationship because she’s so confused.or something like that… xD

      3. Well yeah, Fiona did fail, but unless their parents decided to give her and Declan an early start on school, it makes no logical sense for a second-year high school senior to not be 18 yet. I’m probably one of the youngest sophomores in my school (born July 20th, 1996), but even I’ll be turning 18 during the summer before college.

  22. This is probably the best episode in a really long time, like, at least this season. Something about it gave me the feel I used to get from watching Degrassi. And I’m not just talking about Eclare, even though I really enjoyed that. One thing I didn’t like is a few of the cheesy lines or scenes that the show didn’t used to have that much of, and the music. I actually like the song call me maybe but they just threw it in there and it didn’t fit, I thought I accidentally had it playing on another tab. And the fimogen kiss scene, that music was awful and took away from the scene lol. But I loved everything else about the setting. The lighting and tone and mood it gave, etc. I don’t feel like Eclare was rushed, we’ve waited a very long time and almost lost hope. I was actually one of the people who got sick of Eclare, but I found myself missing them. I just hope they don’t shove them down our throats again. OH, and I feel like Clare is finally acting like herself again! During her relationship with jake she was just being a completely different person. I guess I just have nostalgia and this episode just gave me and oldschool degrassi feel (not that old though. a few seasons back lol). Also, I sort of enjoyed the Maya plot. I REALLY wanted her to play in that band though. It would make her more interesting and we would see more of her. Plus, there aren’t any bands on Degrassi at the moment which we’ve almost always had so it feels like there is something missing.

First of all, this is a girl who is suppose to love music and her cello above all else, a passion like that doesnt simply go away just by picking up another instrument. If people were like that, that simply choosing another instrument to play because they don’t feel challenge enough, then the world would be deprived of real artist who play a certain instrument like magic. To me this was degrassi saying, get over yourself maya just pick something up. It’s an insult to any serious musician with a real passion/obsession to improve their craft.

First of all, the faking was terrible and they used a wrong version of the Bach Cello Suites, but I could overlook all of that if it had been more realistic.
If Maya were *really* serious, she’d get herself a private teacher, audition for a youth orchestra, and get herself a legitimate cello case.
But I think I’m just taking this plot too seriously because I’m a cellist myself. Still. It pisses me off.

  25. Disagree that Imogen’s feelings towards Fiona were rushed. Looking back at all the episodes, it now becomes quite clear that she was very into Fiona (like how she got annoyed during the picnic that she thought was for her and Fiona and also how she felt the need to keep her hanging out with Fiona a secret from Eli). I know the rule Show, Don’t Tell, but do we really need everything spoonfed to the viewers?

I wasn’t paying enought attention on Katie’s little sisters plot to comment on it. I just 4got her name,, oh well.

  27. i screamed so loudly when eli and clare kissed! Omg i love them as a couple it’s not because oh munro is hot i really just like them as a couple. And Mayas part was terrible what was that? I dont like these niners they need more variety and not niners from the same group because im a ninth grader and all the problems the upperclassmen are going through our grade goes through except worse.

  28. I think they should have let Maya go to the audition…and played it out from there. Why did they need to wrap up her storyline in this one episode….these two episodes whatever. Maybe she could have gone to the audition, been told she sucked or something because she’s supposed to be so amazing and she thinks she’s this great musician. She loses her drive to play and then somehow manages to find it again. I mean as cliche as that plot sounds it’s better than…ok dad i’ll go to bed and play trumpet now. So very anti-climactic.

I liked the Fiona/Imogen plot. Although i wish things weren’t always so rushed in this show. One minute Fiona is yelling at Imogen and the next she’s all like ‘she’s right i’m not completely hopeless’ and then is like instantly out of her bad mood. I felt there were plenty of moments when Imogen acted like she may have a crush on Fiona. However, given her past flirting with Eli there are some pretty obvious things about the way she flirts. But I think Imogen’s character has matured a bit, so she wouldn’t be as over the top with her flirting. But still, it was there, and it wasn’t all just in this episode. Many things could have been taken as just being friendly/close friends or as her flirting. Wether she realized she was flirting or not.

I was kind of sad that Eli and Clare’s plot ended the way it did. I kind of hoped it wouldn’t go that way and maybe keep us all on our seats with a will they/won’t they kind of deal. I mean it would be kind of cool to build them back up as friends before they went crossing any kind of line, but….at the same time if they do it right, the way it ended could be a good thing.

Come on degrassi…stop rushing things. There are whole seasons for you to make things
happen. Not just one (half) of an episode.

My grades: Plot Fiona/Imogen: B. I just kind of liked this plot. Hate though how quick the Marisol thing kind of became a thing of the past. Liked that Fiona and Imogen finally admitted the liked one another.

Plot: Clare: B. I liked that it brought everyone back together, all of Clare’s friends and for once showed us a glimpse of the old Clare. Pre whiney, over dramatic Clare(part 2). The one who is determined to be good at something for a cause, and genuinely cares about another person. (She was afraid to set Eli off and for once it wasn’t about her love
life………..well….until the end…but that i feel was on Eli’s part.)

Plot Maya: D+. I added the + because for a minute there, I thought we were going to see something really good in this plot. Maybe find out really why Maya is this ‘prodigy’ but really…we didn’t see anything except maybe some more of a budding good friendship with Tori/Tristian. I mean this plot was a REALLY big let down. I can’t stress enough about how much i wish they would have made this a continuing thing. But after all…it was a season finale……but come on…..Clare/Eli….

Overall grade: B- because when i finally finished watching it, i was overall please. Until i started thinking about things.

  29. I actually hated this Episode it did not make sense. To rushed, After Clare kissed Eli. Eli looked as if he was not in to it just confused. Fiona being hot and cold to Imogen really pissed me off. What pissed me more Imogen still went for her. The other problem Imogen never talked to Eli about if he would have a problem if she went for Fiona. like Fiona did with Eli.. Everything was one sided. What I mean is we never got to explore Imogen side. I felt they just made this EP just for the Eclare shippers as a favor. Sorr, this season was fantastic up until the season final. BTW I don’t ship anybody. Final grade D

  30. The fimogen kiss looked like to two straight girls kissing with no passion. The only funny thing was Eli accidently knocking the soup in tohis lap while miss awkward Clare tried to clean it up.

  31. This “rushed” thing, I agree with.
But for like the E-Clare dilemma, they at least acknowledged that Eli and Clare’s bond was very strangely put together.
For example, Jenna said, “For people who haven’t talked, you guys haven’t missed a beat.”
    :l They find some truth.

KARY, please read this comment and respond. I feel like you back and forth with how you view the show. Often you will agree with me that even the show has become more relationship heavy, it is still very much about the issues opposed to the dynamics of ships. However, then an episode like this comes out and your entire review is about Fimogens dynamics. It seems like you graded the plot entirely on their chemistry? That is so confusing. This plot was NOT about Fimogen AT ALL. In fact, I was very pleased with howmlittle they focused on the relationship. This plot was instead about Fiona trying to take over student council using her families money (the only thing she knows how to use), and when it disappears, she finds herself suddenly deciding to for once not lean on her parents but instead make something of her own (ie: selling her things to pay for the carnival that she already promised). It wasnt an amazing plot, but it was decent and it showed tremendous character development for Fiona, who up until this point had been dependent on her families money and stature. Fimogen was the icing ontop of the cake, so why grade the plot based on that? That would’ve been like grading Need You Now (which was wayyy more romantically driven than this episode) on Eli and Imogens chemistry rather than the issue itself: how Eli’s bipoloar disorder affects those closest to him. I loooooooooooooove your site and your reviews and this is the best show ever, but your review of this plot makes 0 sense to me :/ all respect to you, but I would just like some clarification.

    1. Taking out anything Fimogen related, the plot was still lame. Lame execution of Fiona “trying to take over” student council, and that whole issue was ultimately dropped. And with Katie in real rehab the student council thing was dead in the water before it began, because without her there the sense of conflict completely fizzled out. Character development? Fiona suddenly selling all of her things was a ridiculous, unrealistic cop out to neatly wrap up the lingering cash issue so that Frostival could happen.

  34. Concerning Fimogen…. As much as I’ve loved Fiona’s character since she was introduced… and as much as I have hoped that she finds someone since her love for Holly J and Charlie went awry, I really want to be invested in Imogen’s character more before shipping Fimogen. Imogen’s character has been around long enough that there should just be an episode told from her perspective about her family and who she is. She’s still such a mysterious character, and her reactions to events and people don’t really tell who she is or how she’s really feeling IMO. I really enjoy her positive energy, but she reminds me of a cartoon character almost… The most depth that I’ve seen from her is those secret moments where she was staring at Fiona in this, “I REALLY like you, but I’m not going to say it,” way in random episodes. I was really hoping that Imogen would have been the one to confess her feelings to Fiona when I saw the carnival promo for the first time. I may be in the minority, but I saw some signs in episodes that Imogen was crushing on Fiona before Fiona even started liking her.

Does anyone remember the episode where Imogen ran up to Fiona in the classroom and tried extremely hard to get them to sit together before Fiona used Marisol as an excuse to sit somewhere else? Or how excited Imogen was that Fiona actually invited her over early to her loft party? I feel like the writers were trying to set up Imogen liking Fiona first. Fiona said that Imogen was questioning after they kissed on the ferris wheel, but she’s had a lot of time to think about her feelings for Fiona…. Not saying she should have everything figured out, but it would have made a lot more sense to me if Imogen had been the one to instigate the kiss and confession first. After all, it was Fiona who went out of her way to keep Imogen from finding out her feelings… so much so that she set her up with Eli. So for Fiona to be the one to have a sudden confession out of no where seemed kind of strange and forced to me. I’m very glad that Fimogen happened though, so I hope that the new episodes reflect more of Imogen’s perspective on the matter.

Also, I think people are being way too uptight about Imogen’s character not immediately stated that she’s bi. Imogen obviously doesn’t seem to believe in labels by the way she acts and dresses, so I think it goes against her character to suddenly label her sexuality and really why does it even matter? Can’t she just happen to like Fiona because of who she is?

  35. Also, was a little disappointed in the Fimogen kiss considering it was such a buildup. I hope there’s more chemistry in the upcoming episodes. Anyone remember the kiss that Fiona laid on Holly J? That’s the kind of passion I hope to see in Fimogen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NplGUZSajgo

  39. Kary, I just rewatched “In the Cold, Cold Night” and I gotta say, Maya’s plot is hands down the best of the episode. I understand that it was the C plot, but I would like your feedback with something. I dont think her plot in the episode was about her losing her passion for music, but instead about her not being heard in more ways than one: in band class by Ms. Oh when she feels like she is at a higher level than most of her class and wants to move up, and at home by her parents who clearly favor Katie’s needs at the time (Degrassi being their school of choice because of her and Maya not getting to play in the house because Katie is tires after rehab). It takes Maya nearly sneaking out at night to get her dads attention and advice. I think with recent events regarding Cam, this plot’s parallel of needing help and not being heard (albeit less dramatic) is brilliant. And I think the fact that Maya was one to ask for help not once, but twice (Ms. Oh and her dad) is what makes her so frustrated and not understanding towards Cam’s inability to ask for help in his own situation. What do you think?
