PLOT A SUMMARY: Drew and Bianca must deal with Bianca’s dangerous ex, Anson. Anson stalks Bianca at the Keke Palmer concert, and tries to rape her in an alley. Drew comes to her rescue, and during their fight Bianca hits Anson on the head with a brick, killing him. Drew and Bianca then must deal with Vince, who wants retribution for Anson’s death…Drew must either shoot someone, or be shot. In the end, Drew chooses to confess everything about the situation to Dave’s dad.

What’s that slogan The-N had several years ago? Oh yeah….100% Intense. That describes this plot. Well more like 90% intense, because there was a stretch where it cooled off for a bit. Not only would this have worked as a Season 10 finale (it’s infinitely superior to Drop The World), it also held its own as one of the best season premiere main plots in the show’s history.

The storytelling is extremely overdramatic, but it works because it’s so engaging. Everything about Bianca’s body language when Anson was around screamed that he was trouble. I loved the feeling I got when we saw the fear in Bianca’s eyes; a girl who has a reputation of being a cold bitch is humanized once we realize how terrified she is. I was impressed with Alicia’s acting until after Anson‘s death….then there wasn‘t much for her to do. I’m hoping this leads to the expansion of her character, in the same way we saw Alex Nunez develop in Seasons 4 and 5.

The casting for the bad guys (Anson and Vince) in this plot was perfect. That is all. With Drew, I’m still confused with how they want us to view his character. He went from horny rebel to good guy caught up in a bad mess…I just wish they’d pick one perspective and go with it.

It was a solid setup, not only for this storyline, but also the impact it will have on Drew and Bianca’s future…together and separate.

PLOT B SUMMARY: After Fiona’s Spring Break plans are ruined, she decides to take an art class with Holly J. There she falls for the art model, Charlie. The two spend a lot of flirting together, and end up hanging out alone together at Fiona’s place. They plan to do sketches of each other, and end up kissing. Fiona stops midway because she thinks they’re moving too fast. The next day Fiona apologizes for being awkward, while Charlie apologizes for being too aggressive. The agree to take things slow and become friends first.

It worried me that Fiona was going to be pursuing a relationship with a random new character, but Charlie was handled well. I was not blown away with this plot like I was Drianca’s, but the major thing that kept it enjoyable for me was Fiona’s awkwardness. I loved the innocence and newness she projected with the situation, though there were times I were hoping the plot would pick up the pace to get to the heart of storyline (Fiona and Charlie making out in FiFi’s apartment).

Degrassi did a spectacular job of developing Fiona in Season 10, and while her timidness about diving into the lesbian world is endearing now, I hope her finding her comfort zone isn‘t the only thing she becomes…not after everything she’s been through.

***************

PLOT C SUMMARY: Sav still feels heartbroken over Holly J. While out with his sister Alli, Sav meets a random girl who invites him to a concert. It turns out the girl is Keke Palmer. Sav can’t stop thinking about her, and decides to stalk her at her hotel. They end up running off to The Dot together and have a coffee date. Her conversation with him (as well as one final, surprise video chat) boosts Sav’s confidence.

This plot was as expected…completely useless. It was almost like watching a random dream. I was expecting Sav to wake up at any minute. Alli was kinda funny though…she’s normally pretty good as a support character. This plot brought me back down to Earth and made me realize this episode was originally part of Season 10…In “In Too Deep,” Degrassi had a tough time with their C plots, churning out quite a bit of filler crap that made me wish they’d just cut out and given the extra time to the other two plots instead.

    3. No that’s not true. How to explain….it just means that the summer portion of the eppy’s is called Now or Never…just like last summer with the Boiling Point. It all leads up to a kind of climax at the end of the 7 weeks. For this year I think the Now or Never means that they need to make up their minds or it’s done forever. Hence the “once this season is over, it’s done” Then there will be a hiatus afterward and they’ll come up with another name probably like they did. Same as last year. :) Hope that helped some.

  37. If you didn’t ship Drianca before, YOU BETTER NOW lol. This episode really put them on the map for me. Before I did like them but now I LOVE THEM. They are so good together it’s just madness. Such an intense episode, I can totally see Drew maybe dropping out of Degrassi eventually or him just becoming bad.. Before this episode I thought this season would be bad but now I think this season will be extremely amazing, the plots look very interesting and it seems they might of found an even better formula for making episodes overall (if this was suppose to be originally the season finale). I can’t wait to see how this pans out in the Fall.

Regardless of the score this episode gets, I will forever love this episode and it is a top season premiere with When Doves Cry. It’s about time Degrassi really got into gang activity and just the more gritty side to teens (like Skins does) rather than it being one episode and it’s over. The whole gang aspect seems to span over the season and I hope Anya’s plot does the same.

Oh and this was probably a better season finale but I don’t think it really fit in with In Too Deep. So pushing it to Season premiere was just a wiser choice.

Speaking of Skins, did the Fiona/Charlie moped scene remind anyone else of Naomi/Emily from season four of Skins?

Am I the only one who really didn’t like how Fiona’s story went? Maybe not so much the plot, but rather how it was executed. I felt like there was a bit too much emphasis on her lesbianism.

tl;dr Great ep and start to the season.

Imogen’s a stalker, and just a flat out strange person… “Hello there, Clare Edwards…” and “You feel that? That’s my heart!” WTF? But I still have a feeling Im gonna like her.

Alli’s getting into gambling (hoping its better than Marco’s, or she at least has better reasons than him),

We FINALLY see Katie, but it looks like she’s kind of a bitch.

Jake, I like him already, he seems charming.

Holly J might be adopted????? I’m actually pretty interested if thats the case, we havent had an adoption story go that route before. Plus many people dont find out there adopted until later in life. And also where does that leave the infamous Heather Sinclair?

We finally see hint at the Jake/Eli rivalry… knowing Eli, that cant blow over well.

I’m hoping that they realize that her disease is genetic so they need to know the health records of her parents. That’s when she finds out that she’s adopted!! Like

  56. The Drianca plot was actually a lot better than I expected. Both actors really showed their ability to hold a difficult plot. I found the ‘gangsters’ to be overdramatic, but hey, it is Degrassi. I like how the writers are continuing this plot into other episodes because it’s too big of a plot to just end in one hour. I think this earned Drew a lot of respect as a character/person and Drianca a lot of respect as a couple. As a side note, LOL at Adam’s minor role. Solid A plot.

The Fiona plot started a little bland. But it picked up. Fiona’s awkwardness was amusing. Definately good comic relief juxtaposing Driana’s heavy drama from Holly J and Fiona’s nervousness. I still find it hard to believe that Fiona is over Holly J and can just move on. And, I have to say this: my first thought when Fiona told Charlie to stop kissing her was that Fiona realized she didn’t like kissing a girl and wasn’t lesbian. Not the case, but that was my initial reaction. Oh, and how many times did Fiona say lesbian in this episode? Just too funny. I’d give it a B-.

The Sav plot was just a way to include KeKe Palmer and to use her concert as a good place for multiiple characters to interact. The best part of this whole plot was Alli. Her comment about KeKe introducing her to ‘Taylor Lautner…no, too Drew-ish. Justin Bieber’ was too funny. Not to mention her other comments later when they were talking about ambushing KeKe at her hotel room. Definately a D plot.

    New character Promos:

Jake – we all thought clare was the one making the moves but maybe its Jake. I feel like this is going to be a forced thing where Clare isn’t over Eli and Jake is just a rebound and Cake will fall apart.

Marisol – homewrecker! she obviously flirts with KC shamlessly and he buys the bait.

Katie – Holly J version 2.0 right!?!?! she doesn’t like clare obviously (or just the drama of clare). what happened to being a soccer player?? i guess that changed. with her and Adam, i think they’re going to be really close and adam’s gonna like her as more but the feelings wont be returned.

Imogen – Finally we learn how to say her name!! okay, so she’s a stalker. i have to say that i laughed when she was lik ‘clare edwards’ and when eli asked if she’s been stalking him and she panics.

    Other characters:

Sav – looking forward to this becasue sav could be 18 and so it might be legal. if this is the case then its a different take on student/teacher relationships than paige and mr.o

KC – tempation if torture. but, he is 15. I’m actually looking forward to Jenna sticking it to him and going out with her friends and making him care for baby tyson.

Holly J – so her heath gets worse and she might be adopted. great! (sarcasm) her character has really lost a lot of its touch since last season.

Eli – looking forward to his friendship with Fiona. also, maybe he uses imogen to make clare jealous and she returns the favor by using jake (tht would explain why she’s hesitatnt to kiss him but then later isnt)

Clare – not over Eli and so she mercilessly uses Jake. (see above)

Anya – i hope there is some development between her and owen. its nice to see owen with feelings and im betting they get together in the end one way or another.

Drew – cage fighting? maybe to prove that he can take on bianca’s baggae of gangs and guns and cops. seems like a drew thing to do

    Love Game Promo:

Jenna just moved up a few notches in my book. You go girl! you tell of KC! He deserves it…at least, he will. Not looking forward to Cake but I’m glad to see that they didn’t just drop EClare at eh end of DTW. I hate when a relationship ends and so does the characters’ interactions.

Sorry for the long post, just a lot of thoughts!

  57. That episode was amazing! I really wasn’t expecting it to be that good. Drianca’s plot was soooo intense and Fiona’s plot was really great too but Sav and Keke Palmer’s was just so pointless. I get it was just a way for her to guest star but come onnnn. I’m SO excited for Anya’s plot and her and Owen actually maybe working out? And I’m very excited for Imogen. I’m so over Eclare. And is Angie for sure coming back as a niner? Like did anyone see her at the premiere? If so, her + this episode makes this probably the best season ever

    Dave- “Making a sandwich!”
Drew- “Yeah a sandwich! A REALLY awesome sandwich!” LMAO

  59. It was really weird how Anson just came out of nowhere, Like Bianca walks off, and then he pops up literally OUT OF NOWHERE, and there was some bad acting too, am i the only one that noticed that aswell? Bianca had her bad acting moments, so did drew, bianca’s only good acting moments were when she was almost getting raped by Anson, her screams were very convincing, but other than that, I hate to say it, she sucked, and so did drew, and this plot was the one i was looking forward too the most, but It’ll continue so thats good. Didn’t really give a fuck about the other ones though :P

    1. The part that bothered me the most was the one in which Drew finds Bianca with Anson at the club, and Bianca’s like, “He’s stalking me, there’s nothing I can do.” She just said it so casually.

And Anson wants Bianca to stay away from Drew, but yet he lets her go up to him and tell him this, and that Anson’s going to kill Drew if he comes near her? Meanwhile Anson’s sitting back there twiddling his thumbs.

You’d think that Drew, knowing about Bianca’s past, would buy this. But the writers needed an excuse to keep Drew and Bianca separated in order to get her almost raped by Anson, but keep them in close enough proximity to allow Drew to rescue her.

Their fight was REALLY clumsily shoved in. This is the only part of the Drianca storyline that really bugged me.

you know Sav/Keke make a cute couple but we all know that won’t last that long since keke was going to be in the premirer so it was kind of pointless if only if we knew that she was staying then it would been better because their relationship could have build up but shes not so it was basically Like I like you and then she goes away and Sav takes her off of his existence well kinda all i am saying is that it would good for them to be a couple then just a spring fling anyhow cant wait how this season turns out FINALLY ms.oh gets a storyline and not just a fill in for Mr.Simpnson

  68. If the rest of Season 11 is anything like this, then I think I will finally find my perfect episode. I need an episode where all 3 plots are perfect. Anyways, I’m glad that it looks like there’s only going to be 2 plots in LoveGame. Massive screw-up would be cramming 3 plots into a a 22-minute eisode.

Anyways, this was an amazing premiere. I was literally on my feet all throughout the Drianca plot. Compares with When Doves Cry. It was so hard for me to continue to hate Bianca (especially after seeing All Falls Down yesterday) when she was nearly raped.

One thing I immediately don’t like is that we get a promo for LoveGame and a sneak peek for LoveGame.. I mean like I know the sneak peek is only for people that like the show enough to actual go onto TeenNick, but I still would like it if the sneak peeks didn’t come out until like the afternoon tomorrow.

  69. I think the most thrilling aspect of the Drianca plot is imagining how it’s going to affect them later on… shit’s going to go down, that’s for sure. That Fight Club-ish scenario in one of the new promos made my jaw drop. I could NOT believe Drew took the fall for Bianca like that… I can’t imagine anyone feeling alright with not owning up to their involvement in something as insane as murdering their ex-boyfriend/would-be rapist. I’m just excited to see the character development that’s going to come from this. All I kept thinking about is how Drew is going to keep getting his ass handed to him because of a girl who just doesn’t seem worth the trouble (<— is not a Drianca fan).

Fiona's plot was my favorite from the premiere. It's refreshing to see her vulnerable and exploring new territory… hopefully gone are the days where she carries herself with haughty arrogance. Fiona's become one of my favorite gen 2 characters and I hope she finds happiness.

As expected, the Keke Palmer plot was awful, haha. I found myself rolling my eyes the entire time. Alli–who's probably one of my least favorite characters–was actually my favorite part of that plot because she was just damn funny. That comment she made about how Taylor Lautner looks too much like Drew? Hilarious.

  70. What a way to start off the season.

Thought the Drianca plot was well done. Acting was a little suspect as some of the previous comments have pointed out. Glad Bianca whacked Anson, nobody deserves to be raped; 100% self-defense. I feel that it was very chivalrous of Drew to take the heat all by himself. His mom is very protective of him and Adam which is not necessarily a bad thing, but her ignorance can show at times.

Charlie went in on Fiona, not surprised at her reaction. She wanted to take it slow, build it up with skteching and go from there, but when she was posted on her wall, Charlie wasted no time, messed up the ‘routine’ Fiona had in place for them, hence her falling back. They won’t go there because Charlie already forecasted what they will be fwb, word to Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis.

Dave’s girl made an appearance (Sadie her name right???). They did not seem to enjoy each other’s company at the concert like KC and Jenna did, maybe they are on the rocks already…

Imogen whooo! Eli getting flustered thinking that she stalking him is ironic because, um, does he not remember he wrote something called “Stalker” Angel? She is certainly different from Clare, in the sense of her uniqueness and that she carries spunk.

Sav and Ms. O? As a certain video game voice once said, “Go for it man!”

I know it’s not very common, but if Cake has a past, they should show a flashback. When Clare told him of her current parental situation, Jake didn’t seem to care.

Holly J being adopted? Smh at that sad and humiliating ether.

Especially since degrassi has a history of throwing in stuff that you really don’t think about at first. Like they said there would be a surprise death at the beginning of the season and BAM, Bianca hits anison over the head with a brick and the next day the new paper article pops up about a man dying in the alley.

  75. I feel that these two episodes worked better as a premiere, personally. All three plots were totally new, whereas the episodes in In Too Deep all led up to and ended with Drop The World. It just would have been strange to start 2 totally new plots (Chiona and Drianca, since the Sav plot started and was resolved in these two episodes) in a finale.

      2. Same here! Realistically, I was thinking no way is he going to shoot Dave’s dad! But there was still that moment of suspense and fear, especially because Drew said “it’s time to prove myself”, and the way he just walked past Dave as though he couldn’t even bear to look at him. I also loved the music! Degrassi has been great with music since Season 10.

  79. Oh, the Drew and Bianca storyline has to be one of the BEST plot lines since the new kids started. I liked Fiona’s storyline with Charlie. It was believable and safe to assume that Fiona with her past relationships (and drinking problem) would be wary of getting involved with anyone so suddenly. Honestly, the Sav/Keke Palmer storyline was the dumbest thing I’ve seen on this show since Holly J wanted to sleep with Blue because she was sick of being the “lone” virgin on the Power Squad. At first, I thought that Keke was going to play a character, not herself, until I saw that ridiculous concert/fan-guy scene. Ugh. They shouldn’t have put that on the episode at all because it kind of ruined the premiere for me. I think all Teenick wanted to do was promote KeKe’s new “music”. Plus, I found it a little hard to believe that KC, Bianca, and Drew would be Keke Palmer fans in the first place. It would have been better if they had cast a fake rock band or maybe even a real musician from Toronto to be on the show.

Oh, and the Connor plot?! LMAO that better be a joke. This season, I really hope the writers develop Clare’s character to be more realistic. Right now, she’s so boring. And I don’t want her going down the Darcy route either. But she needs to loosen up and not become the girl who can’t get over her ex or the goody-goody Christian. (The writers really dropped the ball when they never explained the possibly of catching Darcy’s rapist or attempted suicide further.)
