MAIN PLOT: Adam’s secret is revealed at school.
Though we (the fans) have known about Adam for a while, the show officially establishes that Adam is a boy “between the ears,” but was born a girl. Drew doesn’t seem to care, but Adam’s mom is more concerned with what the rest of the family thinks, as she tries to convince Adam to transform into Gracie for their grandmother’s visit.
This plot is great because it provides multiple scenarios that transgendered face. The positive one involves Adam dropping tampons in front of Clare. Owen and Fitz walk by, and a confused Clare plays along with a panicked Adam and says they’re hers. Later Adam reveals her identity to Clare and Eli, who are totally cool with it.
On the OTHER side…Adam has a crush on Bianca. While Adam flirts with her, Bianca discovers that Adam has a female body. Word gets back to Owen and Fitz, who harass Adam in the bathroom.
Jordan Todosey does a fantastic job in this episode as Adam, but this plot wouldn’t be as great without the likes of Owen and Fitz. These are two guys who are merciless bullies, and actually BEHAVE like they are. They take no pity on the fact Adam is a biological female, and Owen shows no remorse after literally throwing Adam through a door.
Drew coming to Adam’s defense without hesitation gets him mega respect points from me, even if he did get his ass kicked. This episode ends on an intense note, with Drew beaten, and Adam’s identity exposed. This plot so far is living up to the hype.

SUBPLOT 1: Anya thinks her mom is having an affair.
This plot *ALMOST* got ruined, but thankfully it got on track by the end of the episode. Anya’s mom is sick, so Anya ends up getting to school late. She’s paired up with Sav and Holly J (her ex and her ex best friend) for a project, but no focus is placed on Sally J’s secret relationship…they just serve as a reminder to us in the back of our minds that they’re there. Instead it’s all about Anya, who finds her sick mom missing when she returns home. Anya finds her mom’s wedding ring, and Leia thinks Anya’s mom is cheating based on some article she read in a teen magazine.
I absolutely hated that part. And I hate that Anya believed her mom was cheating. As soon as that idea came out oof Leia’s mouth I yelled “STFU and GTFO!!” If you’re going to make it “seem” like the parent is cheating, at least create a more believable scenario.
But thankfully the plot improves, as Anya’s parents call her home to tell her some news they received from the doctor…and it isn’t good. I feel kind of sad everytime I see Anya. She’s a sweet girl, and I know it’s going to suck have to watch her deal with her mom being far sicker than they thought. We have to wait until Pt. 2 to find out what’s wrong with Anya’s mom, and besides Leia’s existence this is still a pretty solid plot.

SUBPLOT 2: Dave tries to impress Ms. Oh.
I know this is supposed to be a “change of pace” plot…but it’s terrible. It’s not funny, it’s not entertaining, and it makes me shake my head in disappointment at Dave.
Dave has low marks in Media Immersion, so he imploys a plan to get on Ms. Oh’s good side. The thing is she has no interest in being all “buddy buddy” with Dave like Mr. Perino is. And as a matter of fact, I happen to find Dave as annoying in this plot as Ms. Oh does. I just can’t understand why Alli and Dave, two characters who I LOVED last season, have just been epic fails in Season 10. It’s crazy that nowadays I find Wesley and Connor more interesting than Dave.

I was tearing up , but omg Drew&Ms.Torres are so supportive , I love them so much right now . And I love Eli & Claire . I lol’ed at there (andrew&mommy) mix-ups , but atleast they’re supporting her . I missed claire , and she was so nice for covering up & after she & eli found out , they we’re still cool with it . Anya’s storyline teared me up too , poor anya . Daves storyline was good , and would of interested me but my opinion , the first 2 plot lines WAYY overshadowed his plot . as for the Actors , Bravo . 9pm awaits.

As for plot A I loved it but it was a little on the unrealistic side. A girl gets thrown through a wire glass door? For 1 it probably wouldn’t have broken or cracked that easily. For 2 teachers would have been all over that. I hate Owen, Bianca, and Fitz as characters. As actors they play their parts well though.

And then Anya and her mom. I feel so bad for her, because of her mom’s cancer. I wonder how Anya will take it..?
Dave trying to impress Ms.O? Honestly, it didn’t interest me at all. You barely even see them the whole entire episode, so I literally thought that his story wasn’t even a plot. And I’m being serious.
I can’t wait at all for tomorrow’s episode. I’m really loving Adam and his storyline, and how they went about it.(:

When Adam was pushed through that door and you could see the look on his face, it definitely made me feel something for him.
I’ve already cheated and saw the second part so that I know that this was BY FAR the best story plot of this season so far. I really liked Anya’s plot too. We got to see another, deeper side to her that had nothing to do with Sav or Holly J.
It was a great episode, with great acting by Jordan and I loved how Drew was so great about Adam too.

i completely agree. i love how eli and clare are totally cool with adam being transgender. i finally see that drew has another side of him that really cares for his brother, but his mom really annoys me. why cant she just accept adam? i also watched part 2 and wont give it away for other people, but i feel bad for anya especially when holly j gets so mad at her.
this is seriously the best show yet.

Kary, I will shake my head at you if you don’t give Anya’s plot in the second half an A. Samantha was brilliant, and I cried as much for her as for Adam. The scene with Anya and the volcano was such a beautiful illustration of showing, instead of telling, what Anya was feeling. And when she said “They’re all going to die and they don’t even know it.” Plus with the music it was hands down one of the best scenes I’ve ever seen on Degrassi. Plus, how she doesn’t even care about Savvy J. She has matured enough as a person/character to see that her mom having cancer is infinitely more important than some guy. I hate to say it, but she probably wouldn’t have just ignored what Holly J said in the past.
And Adam’s plot deserves A+++++++ in the second half. I used to cut myself so the fact that Adam hurts himself as Gracie just ripped me in half. And I didn’t see that coming – it was so nice to be surprised by something in such a hyped plot I thought I knew everything about.

I used to cut myself, too, so it really cut close to home. It made me feel Adam’s pain on a much more personal level. Slightly triggering, and I cried more than just a bit, but an AMAZING job on the writers’ part (and I don’t even have to mention Jordan’s mind blowing performance).

Part 2 of MBIAC is amazing. But, am I the only one who thinks Part 1 was a little better? I’m not going to spoil anything but, I think the intensity of Adam being found out was much … better? To sit through. Part 2 still get’s an A in my opinion but Part 2 is just An A+.
Holly J & Sav are really AWESOME together. I love their chemistry.
I have to say, I LOVE Anya’s plot. It just… didn’t need Leia. She seemed useless in this plot to me. Like, I’m sure Anya could have done this plot and carried it quite well WITHOUT Leia. Part 2 of this plot is also A worthy(IMO). Anya (samantha) is a great actress. And I totally commend her. She was great.

After reading some of the above comments on MBIAC (PART 2) I am kind of changing my views on it. The acting itself in the episode is enough to give it an A. Plus, all of the issues they cover and of course, my favorite, CLARE TO THE RESCUE. I am officially giving parts 1&2 an A++ In my book. :)

I love how Anya doesn’t give a RATS ASS (in part 2) about Holly J and Sav.
Adam was by far the best and worth waiting for kind of storyline degrassi has had in a LOOONG time. One of my favorites for sure. When Adam was pushed through that door I felt like crying. And when Bianca made that “tranny” remark that got her sent to the principals office i wanted to slap her. My friend and I were talking and we were saying that Clare should have come out of nowhere and slapped her silly.
Anya and the volcano was one of the BEST scenes I have seen in a longtime. Everything about MBIAC (cept maybe Dave) was memorable, commendable, lovable, and absolutely touching. Just amazing, absolutely amazing. Best episode this season. Best episode in the last COUPLE of seasons.

First and foremost, Mama Torres needs to gtfo. This especially goes for part 2, but I won’t spoil it. I didn’t care for Anya’s part but that’s probably because I don’t care for Anya, although it was good. Dave’s plotline was just out of place and inconvenient.
I read that a lot of people cried during this episode. I totally understand that even though I didn’t. Yes I felt this overwhelming amount of emotional pain for Adam but it manifested itself in straight up anger. I felt the writers handled it so well. I felt Adam’s intense emotions to the point where steam was basically coming out of my ears.
I can not even picture people like Bianca or Fitz. I know plenty of gay people and have interacted with one ftm transgendered person and never have I seen them be attacked like that. I have never known what they had to go through to reach that point of general acceptance. I am just angry at people’s ignorance. It neither if you think they are wrong nor going to hell nor whatever. People can only ultimately change themselves and if they don’t want to change let them be happy with the short amount of time they have on earth. Gay and trangenderness (don’t know the proper term) does not kill. I wish people were more understanding and sympathetic.
I am androgynous (I am a girl. I don’t like females and I don’t feel like a man inside, I just frequent men’s clothing. Not like s tomboy either. For me, it is more like a male alter ego) and I never got teased about it. I got compliments in fact. This just makes me so happy for those around me. I am grateful for my peer’s understanding.

The two prime examples of androgyny are Prince and Grace Jones. Since more people know who Prince is, I will use him. Basically, it is dressing more like the opposite sex, but not to the extent of being a drag queen. It also goes further than being a tom boy. Prince wears ruffled blouses, wears heels, and perms his hair. Very feminine attributes, but he still gets more ass than a public toilet.You could be gay and androgynous but it usually refers to people who are straight. Like andrygonous lesbians are called butch instead. Google Prince, Annie Lennox, and Grace Jones.
I like to dress like Declan. I still identify myself as a female when I do so though. It’s more that a have too big of a fashion sense to only dress as one sex. I like guy;s cuts and I am comfortable enough with my sexuality and who I am to dress up as a dude and still feel like a women.

Just realized this but physically and symbolically the biggest difference between me and Adam us I would never bandage up my breast. To Adam, they are a constant reminder if who he isn’t, but to me breast are what I am.

So proud of Degrassi in how they are handling this storyline! I think it’s so interesting how they show it is a struggle for his family as well as himself. Kudos, Degrassi! Way to approach an issue and do it justice. Jordan is great too.

Leia? One Word: Why? There was no need for her to be on there filling Anya’s head with stupid thoughts from a lame magazine. The Adam plot was simply amazing. Jordan’s acting was so good, for a second, I actually believed that she was a transgender.
Dave? Two Words: Fall Back! In this episode he just got on my last nerve. Honestly, he should have just taken the bad grade and move on. I used to love dave, but now I could care less.
Part two is the episode that gets to all of the good stuff. I swear Degrassi is just getting better and better.

I’m in love with this episode. The acting was so good and really. I cut my wrist so when Adam started hurting himself, I just broke down and started crying. I LOVED this episode. I broke and watched the second part so SPOILERS.
But, oh god. I was sooo pleased. I actually was pretty iffy about Adam at first. I just couldn’t believe that she was a female who felt like a guy. I mostly blamed the acting, but now my opinion is completely reversed. Jordan did a SPOT ON job really showing how UNCOMFORTABLE Adam was when trying to pretend to be Gracie. So perfect. The burning clothes bit was amazing. Adam is so lucky to have such understanding parents.
Fitz and Owen are terrible. How they can have so much lack of apathy for another human being…disturbing.
Clare and Eli made me laugh too, I love how their building up their relationship, letting tidbits slip letting the viewers know they’re getting to know each other. And the beginning interactions in part 1 made me laugh, so much.
“Also, I don’t like this Clara Edwin character.” “She’s an ingenue!” “She’s a Floozy. CHANGE IT.”
Makes me think, maybe Eli considers himself a Cad? Hmmm?

Hm, I’m really not sure where you got that. I admit, I rolled my eyes when Eli first appeared on screen. Stupid of me. He’s shown no indication of being your typical “goth” character. We have yet to see him brood, sulk, and he’s almost always smiling or smirking.
OBVIOUSLY he has some sort of hero complex, or drive to not be beaten. But I’m pretty confused where you get vampire for him? Hell, he even kind of makes fun of Clare with twilight.
I’m all for hate-ons, but like, have some good points, yeah?
Clare likes vampire novels. She writes fan fiction. So maybe this one has SOME merit. But, She’s also sweet, confident, happy and not afraid to call people out.

The concept of Anya’s mom cheating just annoyed me. That whole part of the plot could have been avoided IMO. Anya was way too quick to agree with Leia (actually, Leia was also was too quick to assume that Anya’s mom was even having an affair), and if Anya had really believed it she wouldn’t have been so quick to accept that it was a misunderstanding.
I appreciated the effort of the writers to make the c-plot one of those comic-relief subplots accompanying a super intense main plot that degrassi used to have. But the Dave plot deserved that F. well, actually, i would have given it maybe a D, but i had the same opinions as kary, im just a more generous grader. I didnt care at all what was happening with Dave, and **spoiler** i didnt even laugh when he was pantless in part 2. **spoiler over** that whole plot, also, was a remake of spinner and jimmy tormenting mrs. kwan in season 2.
im not even gonna bother giving opinions about Adam. I already said plenty on the previous comment thread, and besides pointing out cute little things that made me happy (clara edwin. giggle. and nosebleeds.), this plot was just too amazing for words. Thank you, Degrassi.

I loved this episode. And I have a lot of respect for Drew now. Although it kind of surprised me how he didn’t really even throw a punch?.. o_0 and got his ass wooped, but whatever. It’s the reason why he got into that fight that made me happy. It was also nice to see their homelife and everything. Other people can say what they want but when you have YOUR FAMILY backing you up? That’s the best thing in the world. Some families aren’t as supportive or aren’t even at all and it just leads to the person hating themselves etcetc…

This episode hurt me bad…I mean, it was probably (barring Davester) the best degrassi in quite a while…but my god did I feel terrible. I was at least expecting Drew to come tear it up at the end of provide a teensy bit of satisfaction…But nope. Fitz goes 2 for 2.
Speaking of Fitz! I think he’s an awesome bully/villain character, he’s totally ruthless and the kind of bully Degrassi has been lacking for a while…I love what the show’s done with him. (Owen too, sorta. We’ll see next week.)

This is a little random but 10 bucks says that after this season Marisol is going to become the new Chantay. Except more boring considering she cant even think for herself. And did anyone actually pay attention to the intro? the guy watching the kid do the skateboarding move does this hilarious freakout. Also that one girl that checks out drew in the hoodie is in like 3 other scenes in the intro. I just thought it was funny cause first you see her behind Sav, then she is a cheerleader, then she is in the hall with KC and Bianca then she is checking out Drew.

Kary, you’re doing an AWESOME job and I’ve always love you’re reviews snd agree them 90% of the time!! DEGRASSI has been on fire this year compared to seasons 8 and 9. I can’t wait for pt 2 tonite. This ep is EXACTLY what Degrassi is, was and should always be about…strong, relateable storylines and good acting.

that was sooooo good! i think it was the best of season 10! jordan todesy’s acting has definitly improved from life with derek. the whole storyline made me feel so bad for adam and made be like drew soooo much more than i did before. plus i loved how accepting eli and clare were. and the bullies were the perfect touch to all of it. i also really liked anya’s storyline. finally she has a storyline that doesnt have something to do with sav or holly j so i was already really interested. i liked seeing her at home with her family which is also new and i liked the plot. but the whole thing with leia was just like ohmygodddd why are you still here? she was definitly not needed. the dave thing was just stupiddd. it was pointless and boring. they shouldve just focused mostly on adam and anya. overall the episode was amazinggg.

main plot: wow, i wasn’t really super excited off the rails kind of happy as everyone else was about. in truth i thought no actor on degrassi could really pull it off. but i agree that jordy did an absolutely amazing job as adam and conveying the kind of vulnerability that comes with carrying around a secret of that kind of caliber.i love how claire and eli were so cool with it, the more i see of eli the more i love him. even when he’s a little evil. i wasn’t expecting claire to be so cool with it, i’ve met a lot of fanatically religious people who wouldn’t spare a second thought about how saying it’s wrong and gross. i am religious but my views are different and more excepting which is why i FREAKING LOVE CLARE!!!
Subplot 1: I was really expecting another “bad parents” storyline. I haven’t been paying much attention to spoilers and did not see this coming. Yeah Anya’s done a few things wrong, but who hasn’t. This episode, and if it turns out her mother does in fact have cancer, is making it easier to sympathize with Anya.
Subplot 2: Terrible! Terrible! Terrible! I agree with the review that Dave and Ali have fallen very far. Dave is a moron if he thought posting PRIVATE pictures of his teacher in his assignment would get him on her good side. He’s annoying and I am glad that they’ve kept his plots minor and in the background so i can fast-forward through it on my DVR. Connor is the only character remotely interesting out of the three nerds. Wesley is a creepy little worm and dave is nothing but a forgettable fast-tack wannabe.

I’m wondering if the 2nd half of the season is going to feature the C plots. My preference would be to eliminate them altogether. I think the intention of the C plots was to incorporate more of the characters into the show. But, I think this could better accomplished through involving more characters into the A and B plots.

there were so many emotions in this episode! my heart broke for Adam, but i was happy that he had his brother & Clare & Eli who supported him. and i loved how you could feel the tension after Clare held Adam’s tampons, because she didn’t know whether or not to give them back, and Adam didn’t know whether or not he should ask for them back. haha
oh and Leia is only in 1 episode this entire season, so that was it. we won’t be seeing her anymore.

Anya has just gotten on my nerves these past few seasons. However, it’s sad that her mom is sick. Ugh! It bugged me how the only time this season(as far as I know) that Leia showed up, it was because she was accusing Anya’s mom of cheating. Way to be a good friend, Leia…
Dave, Dave, Dave… This plot was so pointless. The character Dave developed in no way in this episode. I spent about 7 minutes of my life watching Dave try and impress a teacher by looking up pictures on her page. That’s about 7 minutes of my life that I will never get back. Even if the plot itself wasn’t terrible… when put up against a great plot such as Adams, it makes the Dave plot look ridiculous. Hopefully Dave’s plot will improve in tonights episode.
Btw.. its very hard for me to believe that Adam, Drew, and their mom come from the same family. In the first few episodes we saw Drew’s dark side and now he’s coming to his brothers rescue and being all compassionate. Adam always seemed like a laid back cool guy. Their mom showed her true colors in the first few episodes, threatning to go to the school board and now shes all nice and “have a nice day”. lol

First…Drew. After watching You Don’t Know My Name (2) and this, I’ve finally made a decision on Drew- I like him a lot. Although he can come off as a real dick at times, he has moments of genuine honesty which make his character a bit more complete in my eyes. I’m big on developing persona and the idea that action is simply a consequence of mental state. Drew is obviously dealing with more than the average teenager- though I was a little surprised that he would use information on Reily, a person also dealing with something society deems ‘abnormal’ (which is stupid), to get ahead. However, he is fiercly loyal when it comes to his family. Drew’s got a whole dark/ light thing going on that I find I enjoy.
Now, onto Adam. This storyline was excellent. Jordan did a wonderful job portraying a conflicted transgender but she really shines in Part 2 (which I just watched via ‘leaky goodness’). I won’t comment on it because I don’t want to ruin the fun for everyone else but, rest assured, she is amazing. The fight with Fitz and Owen was a little odd. I was surprised that they would throw Adam out of the bathroom for being a ‘girl’ but fight with him like he is a ‘guy’. Make up your effing mind!
Clare and Eli were wonderful in this- they provided much needed comic relief to balance out the heavy, emotional material. The whole tampon thing was hilarious- Eli’s, ‘What would he need them for?’ and Clare’s, ‘A nosebleed?’ was really amusing. I also loved their interaction at the beginning of the episode where the writers have them flirting up a storm. Anyone notice how it was all completely feigned? I was squealing like some ridiculous fangirl at the blissful look on his face when she shoved the paper into his hands. Those two are FABULOUS together and I like that the writers continue to develop their relationship with these mini-scenes.
Dave and Miss O was tired. Honestly, Dave is making me crazy this season. I know he’s trying to find his place but, sometimes, you just have to look around to see where that is. He has loyal friends- there’s nothing better than that. The only part of this subplot I enjoyed was the Godfather reference, though I nearly choked when he referred to it as that ‘really, old movie’. Come on people– it wasn’t the silver screen, for crying out loud!

It’s obvious that Drew is not much of a fighter but that’s not important, what’s important is that he defended his brother and that’s the best.
I’m don’t think Clare and Ali are gonna be be close anymore. I’m going to miss them as besties.
I’m guessing Clare/Eli/Adam are gonna be a click. They all have something in common…they don’t care about being popular or whatever, they just what to stay true to themselves.
And like I said before, Jenna and K.C/Ali and Drew/ are going to be close.
Also, in some of the comments here I read that in part 2, Anya doesn’t give a damn about sav and holly J. And that’s pretty awesome, they think it’s gonna be fun to keep their little fling a secret from anya but she couldn’t care less. Ha! Jokes on them.

Am I the only one that LIKES Fitz, Owen, and Bianca? I mean, don’t get me wrong, theyre complete douchebags, but I LOVE antagonistic characters and the drama they add to the series.
the fact that everyone hates them just means they’re being good “heels” and the actors are doing good jobs.
they’re making Spinner, Jay, Alex, Johnny and Bruce look like complete JOKES as bullies. they’ve actually established themselves as threats, and have shown that they’re not afraid to beat the crap out of someone.
and for the people that think theyre done, just wait till next week…. ;)
as for my opinions on the episode, it was amazing. and watching part 2 right after just makes it into the best Degrassi episode since Standing in the Dark. the C plot was completely fricking pointless, but it was better in part 2.

I completely agree about the bullies who are actually a threat point. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who thought Johnny was kind of a joke of a bully since he almost always got his ass kicked, as for Bruce, I mean he does harass people a lot but compared to Owen and Fitz that seems light. The old bullies either turned good (Spinner, Jay) or weren’t as brutal as Owen and Fitz in this season. The only time Spinner and Jay + Alex felt like real bullies was with Rick, but then after Time Stands Still we know that disappeared. Well anyways Fitz and Owen are doing a good job as heels if they are making people want to punch them haha. But at least there are real bullies on the show now hopefully they don’t just turn good all of a sudden.

For everybody saying that Drew’s character is inconsistent: it’s called being human. In real life, no one is all good or all bad. I love seeing a multidimensional character rather than a cookie-cutter bully or protagonist.

Something tells me that Bianca is the new Jay Hogarth a.k.a. The Devil. She’s always in the background messing up people’s lives and/or leading them into temptation.
The transgendered plot was powerful, but I do think they made a mistake in casting to some degree. Not in a million years would I have assumed that Adam was actually male–so when people in the show are surprised that he’s biologically female, it really feels like a HUGE stretch.
Still, I appreciate this show for not watering a pretty serious thing like they’ve done with other issues. The bullies weren’t just jerks, they were incredibly violent and cruel, which is the reality transgendered teenagers often face. And Adam’s mom support of him being patchy in places (asking him to “bring out” Gracie, accidentally calling him “her”) makes her believable as a mother–if she had been ENTIRELY supportive, it would have been difficult to connect with Adam’s experience.

That shouldn’t make a difference because Mr. Simpson was there when the policy was instilled. And like if I remember correctly, he played a role in the healing process or something. He tried to get the students to talk about it, so it seems like he would do more when something bad happened again. But then again, Degrassi’s school rules have pretty much been inconsistent, so I guess it really doesn’t matter.

Does anyone else think it’s odd that Drew is so sensitive to Adam’s gender identity issues, and yet used Riley’s homosexuality against him to get the QB spot? I know that Adam isn’t gay and Drew isn’t homophobic, but you’d just think that being so close to someone who has had to deal with gender and sexuality issues and the prejudice that comes with it, he wouldn’t have been such a jerk to Riley about his sexuality, when he’s clearly struggling with coming out.

Also the football team is pretty homophobic and Riley knows that they’ll lose respect in him if he comes out as gay, which is why he’s so insecure. Omg, the first half I watched with my dad, my mom, my sister, and my two little brothers. They were so intersted because we never seen a storyline on a show dealing with a teenager that is transgender. It was so sad, I love Eli and claire. Claire was an amazing friend in part 2, I love Claire for helping her friend out. I love how when Jordan put on the girl clothes that you can feel that it’s a boy dressed up as a girl. The burning herself was intense. Best episode ever! The subplot was amazing too, the volcano scene was intense. I love how she destroyed their project. Then Holly J thinks reacting about her and sav. But she tells her not thinking of anything else. BUT Anya don’t give a shit. The ending too was good. Anya at the doctor pretending that she’s staying strong, then looked at her mom in fear.

I loved the Adam stuff. My respect for Drew went way up, while any liking I had for Bianca died. And I am so glad that Eli and Clare were supportive. It wasn’t like I was expecting them to not be, but I would have been really sad if they were.
I personally didn’t like either of the other two plots. Maybe cause I was so into Adam’s that I was like, “Forget you guys! Get back to Adam!” Ha ha…

I like the inclusion of C Plots, personally. Because the show’s cast is so big, having C Plots ensures that every cast member gets screen time. On their own, they’re typically pretty weak/uneventful. But their inclusion allows us to view subtle characterization that becomes key to understanding subsequent A/B Plots, which stem from C Plots.

Yea, I like the idea of C plots, but they need to be better. I’m sick of it just being Dave on his quest for popularity or whatever he is doing. He just gets on my nerves, and it’s frusterating how they only focus on Dave in the majority of C plots and not Connor or Wesley. Even if it is about one of the other three tenners it seems Dave steal the spotlight.

This was a very powerful episode that touched me. Even Though I did not cry i almost did at both Anaya & Adam’s parts I felt their pain. This is one of the BEST episodes and my favorite. BTW I also love how Drew was there for Adam no matter what.

If I understand your meaning here, “her identity” refers to Adam in this sentence, so it ought to be corrected to say “his identity”. It gets confusing but the polite way to refer to a trans person is with the pronouns of the gender they identify with, not the gender they were born into.

I’m glad someone brought this up. I’ve been seeing this problem a lot in the comments and in the OP. Half the battle with a newly-transitioning trans person is getting people to use the right name/pronouns. I wish you weren’t getting so many thumbs down for this comment.

Well, I’m thinking it was just an honest typo in the review, since this writer seems to be otherwise very respectful of the whole trans issue. But I wanted to draw attention to it because I think a lot of people who are reading this blog have had limited or zero exposure to transgendered people and don’t understand why the pronoun in that sentence is problematic/potentially offensive.
I’ve never known anyone in transition (the trans folks I know were already living as their true gender by the time I met them) and I’m sure I would forget and slip up a few times, but the point is that it’s just ignorant and disrespectful to insist upon using a certain name or certain pronouns when someone has asked you not to. I imagine it’d be like getting called a nickname you hate, only 100x worse… Whether or not you “approve” of transgendered people (as if it’s any of your business to begin with!) be polite and respectful.

This episode was a gigantic eye opener for me. I’ve never really understood the whole transgender thing and I never realized how serious it is. It’s heartbreaking. It must be so scary for Adam. this episode really gave me a greater sense of empathy for people who are transgendered.
I’ve been watching degrassi since season 1 (even though I was in third grade at the time) and I can honestly say this was one of the most powerful episodes. Jordan’s acting was brilliant and extremly believable. by the end of the episode I was in tears. I can’t wait for tonights portion. One of the best episodes of degrassi ever made.

I’m LOVING that picture of Adam – and am so, SO jealous of whoever he took to the dance (even if he didn’t take anyone, I’m still jealous of all the people who got to see him looking so hot!).
And I really don’t think Eli had anything to do with the lockdown. Maybe Bianca, Fitz and Owen decided to get back at him in some way – but I think he was probably in the dark about things, and had no idea they were planning anything until it got out of hand.

My favoite episode of the season. I loved every minute of the Adam plot (Jordan was great), and I like how in the Anya plot, it focused on her and her family, and less on the drama of Sally J/Anya project, even though it was there.

I officially love adam. I feel so bad for him & the actor portraying him (not sure of the name… I think Jordan?) was amazing. Eli and Clare in this episode were awesome too, how they just accepted him. I have to say, I thought clare would have a harder time and stuff but i’m glad she didn’t. I really couldn’t stand her in the previous seasons, but i really like her in this one. Especially w/ Eli. I can’t wait for part 2 tonight :)
I have to say, the anya plot for me was kinda bad. First the automatically going to the assumption that her moms cheating without a second thought and w/ so little evidence. Seriously? It would take a long, long time to convince me my mother was cheating. I thought that was a bit unbelievable.
And as for Dave. I fast forwarded through his stuff, it bored me so bad. Bleh.

I honesly doubt it…If they were going to do that they would have done it a lonnnnnnnnng time ago, and since they already play VV’s original music video on teennick thats highly unlikely…I remember a few months ago they were they were saying something about some kind of new big promo they were shooting…and a couple days ago, Stephen said something along the lines of “The shark is definitely coming back…” So I could be wrong, but I think it’s definitely going to be a new one…just set to the same music highlighting the second half of the season.

I am in complete and utter awe at your amazing storyline on Degrassi tonight. You delivered an epic performance and an important story to tell. Hopefully this will put this topic in a new light for teenagers going through Adam’s struggles. Simply inspiring. I felt for Adam so much- I couldn’t possibly understand how out of place he must feel, being born into something he’ll never be. I mean, being forced to live in something you can never relate to, never fully understand. I really hope they will continue this plot to keep reminding kids this IS a situation kids are faced with. I especially thought it was incredible to have the family perspective included- they could have simply stuck to more of Adam’s life at school but instead kept a balance between the two. Plus, I also loved how Adam finally stood up to his parents in saying that they have to let Gracie go. I would have loved to see more of a struggle in school (I understand they did that in Part 1, but I would hope that this won’t be something the writers will just briefly mention every once in a while), but there are plenty of more episodes for that. Great job, great performance, great story.

Oh god, the previews for the next episode and the last 2 weeks were both so INTENSE!
I admit it, I actually squealed when Clare and Eli kissed. Too bad it looks like they’re going to have a super sweet, romantic scene, only for Eli to ruin it in either the next scene or next episode. :/ I wonder WHY he decides to push Clare away (because he clearly is, as shown when he apologizes for leading her on)? Is it because of something in his past, or some current secret he’s just started keeping? I’m extra curious because Adam seems to know about whatever it is. Is it really THAT bad? Or is Eli just afraid to tell Clare because he’s afraid of her judging him and pushing him away?
At any rate, I’m just PRAYING this isn’t permanent, even though I know as a rule, all Degrassi couples are basically screwed. :/ They clearly are still friends, since they’re together during the lockdown, but I’m hoping they remain something more…Because god knows they just complement each other so well!
And, speaking of the lockdown, it looks like Eli might have something to do with it after all, since Clare demands to know what he did during it. I think it’s really interesting to see this transgender role played out. Drew seems to be a very supporting brother but considering his earlier use of blackmail on Riley I’m not sure why he would seem so two sided. I mean he’s protecting his “straight” sis/bro but blackmailing Riley to backing down from the QB position by telling him he will out him in front of the team. That’s very confusing and hopefully just and overlapse by the writers.

I really don’t like Anya so my opinion is totally biased but I didn’t feel as much remorse for her as I’m sure people would expect to,when we found out when her mom said she had Hodgkins. Anya’s character seems to have the worst trouble with something I’ve seen Teen’s have an easier time of doing especially on degrassi but her COMMUNICATION skills are pretty bad. I’m on the pill I’m not on the pill I’m pregnant I’m not I’ve been in so man episodes but this is the first one I’ve appeared in in weeks…etc etc.
Dave, Dave Dave. How I want to smack you, as a future educator I couldn’t help but be so annoyed by him.He is obviously a smart guy but he isn’t applying himself. He reminds me a lot of JT in that sense. He is also so like Alli, he wants to be popular and well liked while letting his school sacrifice except Alli is smart enough to do her and her boyfriends school work.
AS FOR THE PREVIEW FOR NEXT WEEK:
I squealed as if I was 14 years old (I’m 19) when I saw that Eli and Clare kiss. Absolutely adorable but then ‘no we cant’ non-sense, going back to the carnival promo I came up with the rationalization that the Tarot cards are indicating something else entirely.
Lovers yes of course but then death upside down means the closure of one thing to the next. Eli and Clare’s relationship bringing closure from one thing to the next if the lockdown is brought on by something Eli has done the death card can represent Clare and Eli overcoming what happened during the lockdown. Also Lovers before the Death card can represent the longevity of the relationship, as we’ve all said “relationships and degrassi lead to utter failure” maybe this will be the one and only relationship to actually blossom and survive Degrassi.

OMG i know. after the cross roads of destiny, I fell in love with Zutara, plus I was already in love with Zuko, and with Katara, sooooooooo that was my favorite couple evvvveeerrr.
But then, even in the Ember Island Players, they acknowledged the chemistry between the two, which got me really excited.

I literally yelled, “COME ON DREW, BREAK HIS FACE!” during the confrontation. I wanted Drew to kick Fitz’s ass SO badly. Jordan Todosey is genius in this episode. My heart totally breaks for Adam — feeling trapped in your own body, unaccepted and misunderstood even by your own family.
What I also like about the episode is that it gave me a deeper understanding of what it truly means to be transgender. It was kind of a gray area for me before. I knew what gay was, I knew what lesbian was, I knew what a sex change was. But I wasn’t quite sure of the true meaning of transgenderism. I feel so much more aware on the topic.
I totally agree on the grade of the Dave/Ms. Oh plot. Laaaaame. I’m starting to dislike Dave as much as I began to dislike Alli.

Aha. I never thought of that, and even though how far-fetched it would seem right now, and how much I would hate the both of them if he did, it actually would make a butt-load of sense.
We all know that Jenna is/can be jealous of Clare. Also, I highly doubt it’s KC’s. I mean, They are a couple who love each other, so why would Degrassi give them a baby together, if you catch my drift. And it definitely wouldn’t be as much drama if it were KC’s.
And if it were Eli’s, then Clare would be upset, and KC would be upset, and besides Alli, or possibly Adam, who else would Clare run to, to talk to? KC.

I kind of got the opposite vibe from the past episodes…I REALLY want Adam to like Clare, so I was looking for any signs – but he seemed completely disinterested in her when he and Eli were talking about Eclare’s never-ending flirting. He didn’t seem even the slightest bit jealous, just nauseated. :P
And in the promo, HE’S the one who tells Eli to tell Clare – and Eli says, “she doesn’t need to know.” It seems more to me that Adam’s just trying to be a good friend and try to get all the secrets between them out in the open.
As for why Adam’s just standing there watching them kiss…who the hell knows? Maybe he dared them to make out and is making sure they carry out the dare?? XD <—- joking, that would be the lamest storyline EVER if it happened XD

I think this show is fantastic in a lot of areas. Although, I wonder what people think about Drew, and how the character is written. He’s a bully to Riley when he first appears. Okay, so when he blows off Alli initially, I thought, “What a jerk.”
But, in these newer episodes, Drew has seen to flip from ‘bully’ to ‘nice guy — The way he comforts Adam and how he seemingly wants a true relationship with Alli.
What’s everyone think about the sudden change?

just realized something did anyone remember the knife that’s thrown at Sav’s head in the promo. If someone brought a concealed weapon to the school the principal (snake) would have to put them into Lockdown to find said person with a concealed weapon. Maybe the dance was a way for Fitz to get back at Eli and Clare upon hearing about the lockdown thinks Eli has had something to do with it but really it’s Fitz. Someone mentioned that Fitz likes smart girls and he’s truthfully jealous of Eli and Clare’s relationship.
I still have no idea what Eli’s dark past could be but it doesn’t matter in comparison to the lockdown.

in the promo pic where eli and clare and holly j and sav are standing outside the school looking astonished (during the lockdown), it seems to me like they’re all staring at something. IF someone had died (and im not convinced yet that anyone does), i feel like this picture would be when the police were taking the body out of the school. it could also be that someone is taken out in handcuffs, or something like that. i just have a feeling that that picture takes place when the police are removing the cause of the lockdown from the school. for some reason, i feel like that might be alli, because theres gotta be a reason that its eli/clare and holly j/sav. sav’s sister and clare’s (ex?) best friend.
my current theory (which i already posted yesterday, but whatever) is that adam gets a death threat. i know that goes against what i just theorized above, but this seems like a plausible cause for a lockdown and for police to come without killing off any characters.

I think that it could involve Ali, it seems like she gets in some trouble at the dance with owen and maybe she calls the police like help me and while they search the school they find Sav and Holly J kissing, and they found out it’s her brother so they bring them outside. If you delve far enough into Degrassi’s past though a girl named Heather gets an abortion in like the very first ep. of Degrassi High. But I totally get what you’re saying. I think it has a lot to do with the character. I mean, they can’t just be like let’s do this because we haven’t done it as much. It has to feel right for the writers. Hell, they may even have intended to do that but the flow of the script and characterization took them another way. Personally I’m hoping for uncharted territory here as Degrassi has NEVER covered the high-risk complications of teenage pregnancy (and what with Jenna’s having taken those diet pills it could be prime time to do just that).

Darcy comes back from Africa and finds out Peter knocked up Jenna. Darcy is furious about the situation so she calls upon the African tribe she brought back to Canada to bring her revenge. She tells them to attack Peter, but they misunderstand and start shooting poisonous darts at Eli instead. Then Leia steps in and says she read all about “what to do when a tribe of Africans shoots cute boys with poisonous darts” in “sizzle teen magazine”. So she sucks the poison out of Eli, and saves him, but dies in the process. No one cared though except for Anya who said “super bummer” when she found out. Then Claire dropped her feminine hygyiene products and Fitz who was holding a knife tripped over them and stabbed Owen. Owen screamed,” why’d you stick that in me?!” and Adam said,”ha that’s what my ex-girlfriend said”.

Sorry to repost guys but I just have a question. That scene where KC brings Jenna her pants in part 2 of I just don’t know what to do with myself, were we supposed to assume they had sex that night? I kind of got that feeling when he started kissing her neck, the very first time I saw that scene. But then I was like no way, because then Jenna starts to have cravings the next day??? It seemed unrealistic. Then I watched the scene again, and I was like maybe they weren’t having sex. It was just kind of awkward haha….

for some reason i don’t think he killed her. they always make things seem like what they’re not. remeber when everyone thought Sav got stabbed, but he was just screaming out of anger? or when Bianca says “Floor it” and they show Sav speeding up, but he was speeding before that, and Bianca told him to floor it when the cops came and he said no.

First off, yes i am 99% sure the baby is K.C.’s, and the reason he was so mad at Jenna was because she refused to get an abortion, and i don’t think Jenna was talking to Drew when she said what your girlfriend doesn’t know won’t hurt her, i think she was talking to K.C. I bet he gets so upset and mad with Jenna that he hooks up with Bianca.

Although I’m inclined to believe that Eli’s girlfriend died in an accident and it wasn’t Eli’s fault, there’s got to be something more to the story as far as character development is concerned. I mean what else about Eli is going to drive his storyline further? Perhaps, the trauma from the accident caused some other kind of problem such as depression or post traumatic stress disorder. How else can we explain his sadistic plan to get back at Fitz? He has a dark side and I think we’ve only just begun to uncover it.

degrassi promos do overdo things most of the time but someone yesterday said stephen stohn or whoever said all falls down is better than the episode where jimmy got shot and when jt got killed so does that mean that this episdode is going to be chaotic. we know it is going to change the culture of Degrassi but is someone really gonna die. in the promo principal simpson says “there will be consequences” to a student of degrassi and quite possibly a student who has not been in trouble before since simpson has a certain tone of disbelief in his voice. Also for some reason the biggest secret is the boiler room situation which includes drew, bianca, alli, and maybe one other character. I do hope that there is major chaos in this episode where multiple ppl cause problems when sav and holly j decides that everything is good and decides to go makeout. There are no signs of ambulances or dogs which means that no one dies or gets hurt to that extent. i could be wrong and no dogs mean this is not drug or gun related. this is strict violent threat

this is degrassi and idk for sure if drew even goes that far with bianca. usually promos may blow things out of proportion to get the ratings but maybe some degrassi characters blow some things out of proportion like maybe drew goes to the boiler room but doesnt do anything but alli blows it out of hand.. i could be wrong and maybe bianca likes the charmer type and adam and drew r both charm types. Bianca is bad but wants someone good. Another theory is maybe bianca wants to trick drew and use the boiler room to lock him up and or torture him in some way to get back at adam.

Idea of the boiler room…..
Alli and Drew go together to the dance, and then at some point they separate for whatever reason. No fight, they just hang out with different people. Owen tries to seduce Alli to get her out of the way. Bianca tells Drew that Owen and Alli went to the Boiler Room, and knowing how Owen treated his brother, Bianca takes Drew to the Boiler Room to take care of the situation. There, Drew is beat up by Fitz or someone and locked down there. And then think about it. What if Drew is stuck there in the boiler room, and Fitz, Owen, and Bianca concoct a plan where they try to get the Boiler Room to blow up or set it on fire? That’s where Adam, Clare, and Eli come in. Adam finds out about his brother, Eli tries to create a plan for everything to blow over and to save his brother, Clare is trying to find out where everyone is. Someone eventually tells Mr. Simpson.
And that is how I see it. But who knows, this may be completely off.

ok so this bit of info continues to spice up degrassi for us. Degrassi is getting really strict now so it will be interesting to see if they r going to focus more on sotrylines outside of the schoool rather than inside because the kids basically can not do anythin. now bear with me on this list and feel free to help out but this list is derived from certain situations in season 9 and many in seaosnm 10. now in some of these situations, some students who have committed this act were not caught. so i will be taking guesses but like i mentioned before feel free to help. The whole students need to be supervised while entering classrooms is interesting. I feel violence, weapon, and sexual content at school will be the tipping point but others will occur at the dance. Degrassi tends to put an episodes most dramatic moments in the promos, and if there was a death, it would be ALL OVER THAT PROMO.

just going to contribute something i posted on FF:
when eli’s character was first introduced, i thought eli’s hearse and obsession with death HAD to be a reference to the movie harold and maude. for those of you who haven’t seen the movie, it’s about a boy (well, he’s nineteen, i think) named harold who is…obsessed with death. and drives a hearse. he continually fakes suicide in hopes of his rich socialite mother actually noticing him…as well as to scare away the annoying girls she wants him to date.
anyway, i am fairly sure that eli’s past girlfriend’s death was the result of a car accident, since he is in morty when he tells clare, and it makes a lot of sense. personally, i like the suicide pact idea better, because that’s even more complex and scary.
but i am just going to throw some things out there. now, i could not imagine how the harold and maude references would actually come into play or if they would at all. but it’s worth mentioning that harold falls in love with an old lady named maude, who is very eccentric and loves life, and they get married, but she kills herself on her eightieth birthday. so there IS a dead lover in the picture; in this case, he’s actually a widow.
suicide is heavily related to the movie; harold is fascinated by death, but maude teaches him to love life though she is planning to die all along. so while a car accident makes a lot of sense, i can’t help thinking suicide is going to be involved, because the parallels are kind of scary, though i doubt eli’s girlfriend was eighty years old.
anyway, i was uncomfortable with the idea of a dead girlfriend in the picture, but like most of you, i am hoping that his main issue is the guilt he feels, not that he was so in love with her that clare could never be quite as good. and i like the idea of clare helping him to deal with the guilt.

I dont think anything will come of the “put the guns away and talk” scene. Well maybe but i doubt it has ANYTHING ti do with the boiling point. Heres what i think will happen in the following weeks.
Jenna & KC plot
Jenna does a fantastic job at her audition to be on a reality tv show similair to american idol. But she gets sick and signs start pointing to pregnancy. She and Alli go buy a pregnancy test and the test proves positive. She tells KC and he cant believe it and he demands she gets an abortion but she refuses. Eventually he will be supportive and help her with the baby.
Riley & Zane plot
One way or another it is leaked to the team that Riley and Zane are gay. Owen a big time homophobe torments them horridly. Zane is hurt by the comments while Riley is utterly furious. Zane doesnt want Riley to do anything stupid but he ends up getting 2 guns and plots to kill owen. Zane manages to stop him but realises Riley has serious issues if he would go as far as to kill owen. He gets expelled and goes to therapy.
Eli and Clare plot
Eli confesses to Adam that he likes Clare but cant date her because of his guilt over accidentally killing his last gf via carwreck. He was speeding and they got into an accident that caused her to die. Clare snoops around to find out his secret and he gets mad at her but eventually tells her the truth. She tells him its ok and he doesnt have to feel guilty and they kiss and start dating.
Connor and the pedophile plot
Connor likes his mmo nerd buddy but he thinks she is too old for them to be together. She accepts this and says they can just be friends. However she really wants Connor and lures him into her care when nobody is around and tries to seduce him. He gets scared and runs away. He tells Snake and Spike and they get the police involved and she ends up getting arrested and gives Connor a creppy look as she gets into the police car.
Fiona & Pills plot
Fiona is very worried about seeing Bobby again in court so she starts taking pills to relieve the stress. She ends up getting addicted and shows up at the court messed up from the pills and Bobby ends up winning. She becomes horribly depressed and more addicted tot he pils than ever after this but with help from her therapist mom and holly j she gets off the pills and starts living a normal happy life again. With Porcelina of course.
Drew & Bianca
Bianca,still angry at Alli for her bitchiness at the dance club tries to make Drew dissapear from her by stealing him away. He declines over and over until he is invited down to the boiler room and she successfully seduces him. Alli sees this and immediatley attacks Bianca and kicks her ass. She then breaks up with Drew and leaves the boiler room in tears.
ALL FALLS DOWN PLOTS
Alli & Owen plot
Owen tempts a brokenhearted Alli to try prostitution sex for money. He offers her 50 dollars as her first client but she refuses though she is flattered he would be willing to pay to be with her. He still grabs Alli and takes her to a room and takes advantage of her and holds her hostage while Fitz keeps watch. Clare finds out whats happening and tries to save Alli but cant unlock the door and is pushed against a locker by fitz. She manages to escape and tell everyone whats happening.

Just wanted to comment on your Riley and Zane theory. I’m almost positive that when Zane says “put the guns away” he’s referring to Riley’s muscles. It’s in the same scene where Riley punches Owen.

he the conner, jenna and kc (pregnacy), eli and claire romance/secret and fionas plots are more depth than that beacuse the problems in the plots (possilby a few of the biggest problems this season) get resloved too quickly,

I didn’t even cry when JT got killed, but when those bullies pushed Adam into the glass door, my eyes watered. I can relate to the self-mutilation thing because I had an ongoing problem like that. Adam is officially my favorite character from the whole series.

I think you on point with the all falls down plot, it totally makes sense, specially in the promo when she like looks terrified and backed away. as for the El and Claire plot I think your going the wrong order, it seems like this : Her & Adam & Eli are chilling or doing something & some way or another they kiss and then he like gives her the cold shoulder (kinda like Paige and Alex) but then claire goes to him when hels working on his car (one of the promo pics and she has the same outfit on aas in the promo itself) and he says ‘sorry for giving you wrong signels) or whatever and she like walks away looking distraught(another promo) & somewhere betwwen this or after , eli tells adam bout his girlfriend, then stuff happen… he tells clair… don’t really no what will happen next. also your drew and ali plot seems unlikely, if that does happen, ali might just give her scrunched up face and walk away all pissy. & the rest of the plots could be right.

I don’t think that there is going to be a death at the lockdown. I would love for it to happen because it would make it intense but almost every cast member who has a twitter is still filming. That doesn’t mean that a character who doesn’t have a twitter dies but in the Carnival promo when the thing at the end spins and it has all the words (lockdown, lies, secrets, danger, crushes, loss etc.) the word death isn’t there. Maybe they didn’t want to give it away but it seems like it would be there.

I do not think that the lockdown involves Claire, Eli, Sav, and Holly J apart from the fact that they weren’t in the Gym during the lockdown so they didn’t know it was happening so when they police came and searched the school for whatever or whoever they were looking for they found them in the school and couldn’t bring them to the gym because you can’t open doors to let anyone in during a lockdown so they had to be led outside.

Spoiler Alert Just an Observation here
If you pause in the promo for the final 2 weeks when Mr.Simpson FIRST starts sayin “from this moment on the school is on lockdown.” and RIGHT after a scene of Kc and Jenna.The billboard thing outside of the school says “Welcome to … in Vegas” It is cut off a little but I think it says “Welcome to a Night in Vegas” You can see it if you pause it.

Ok, the music video had the same degrassi scenes BUT they are alittle bit longer there is extra footage and V.V. Brown was obviously in the video singing. If this goes on iTunes i’m so buying this music video :) :D

another random idea concerning the photo of Holly J, Sav, Eli and Clare.
Alli is put in a cop car with Owen after the cops find them starting to do the naughty in the boiler room. When Alli absurdly and accidentally spills out that he paid her forcing the cops to arrest the both of them for the prostitution of a minor. Which is why Sav looks astonished and worried Holly J seems concerned and Clare is outright worried. Eli is un-moved, it’s Owen he could care less he hates Owen.

Fiona is taken away in an ambulance as she has od’d and Holly J is concerned Sav is worried Clare and Eli found her so they are outside to see her off and talk to the cops.
