Ahhh, the first week of The Boiling Point has flown by! Because the storylines this season are happening over the course of 2, 3 or 4 thirty-minute episodes, I’ve been reviewing each individual episode…so basically I’ve been reviewing sections of the storylines. But not all sections are created equal…it’s also important to look at each of this week’s storylines overall:

Fiona’s Abuse
I rank What A Girl Wants as the 3rd best season premiere ever (behind When Doves Cry and Standing in the Dark), and part of that is thanks to Fiona’s storyline. It started off slow, but once the wheels started turning it didn’t hold back. I like how the story wasn’t all about the actual abuse all the time, like Bobby smacking her around every two minutes. There was the abuse, then they started focusing on Fiona’s breakdown.
Now I know a lot of people who have been fans of the show since the originals around are sort of comparing this abuse storyline to Terri’s back in Season 3. I actually prefer this one better: Rick was super controlling, but Bobby is an absolute monster. You could argue that Rick put Terri in a coma, but it’s not as if he INTENDED to push her down on the rock. Bobby intentionally threw Fiona down the stairs, and showed no remorse for his actions.
I was *this* close to hammering this storyline at the end, because I thought they might’ve been dropping the storyline cold in Breakaway Pt. 2…however, we found out Bobby will be returning later in the season. Let’s hope that whatever happens is equally as good as what’s happened so far.

The Election/Sav & Anya
This is my favorite storyline of the season so far. The writing for it is amazing. To sum it up briefly, I like how Sav, Anya and Holly J build up such a huge web of lies. Basically they’re all lying and using each other, and using the lies for their own personal gain. I just love the irony of how the lies bring success in some cases, failure in others, but in the end it everything comes crashing down and they’re all back right where they started.

Holly J Desperate For Cash
I don’t count this as part of any other storyline, even though her money issue was established in the first episode. I don’t know what’s happening, but Holly J’s reverting back to the unlikable, “holier than thou” character that dominated Season 7, and most of Season 8. I don’t like that.
I also don’t like that her primary reason for doing all this is Declan. Yeah the idea of going to Yale is up there, but she wants to go because he’s going there (I’m sure if he decided to go elsewhere, she’d probably follow him). Someone should tell her that relationships on Degrassi have an extremely low success rate.
The Fiona/Holly J friendship is one that’s necessary to the show I think, but this plot didn’t feel like any type of setup for anything since Holly J was forgiven so quickly. Besides, Holly J’s issues are going to revolve around Declan later in the season.

Dave/Alli
"I don't want your vote....I just...I...I want you."
This storyline just sat there, and wasn’t interesting. That’s shocking to me, given that I LOVE both Dave and Alli as characters. In a way, they remind me of when JT was trying to date Manny in Season 3…that plot made me cheer for JT to get the girl. I really feel indifferent toward Dave’s quest because I just don’t feel the chemistry between him and Alli.
Maybe it’ll win me over at some point, because Dave doesn’t plan on giving up.

Clare’s Rumor

This storyline made a SPECTACULAR recovery in Breakaway Part 2 after a super slow start in Part 1. The best parts are (of course) Wesley grabbing Clare’s boobs, Clare telling off Jenna and the introduction of Eli.
I think I’m giving up on the idea of Clare and KC. Clare’s going to end up with Eli, and from the opening credits to the character galleries over at MuchMusic, Bianca and KC look they could be a hot item.
On a side note, I don’t know about you but one of the things I’m loving about the beginning of this season is how they’re introducing the new characters. Bianca’s had one line so far…Ms. Oh’s had a couple as well. Drew’s been around, but it’s just him casually bantering with Sav. Eli wasn’t introduced until the end of an episode. They’re gradually working them into the fold instead of immediately tossing them into the spotlight/giving them storylines on day one.

really? I didnt think it was THAT great of a premiere…tho i wont lie, i did like it a lot. Annie clark was amazing in this episode and it made fiona my favorite character. Kudos to her. I wish Sanya would just end, Sav is never going to man up and I wish they would just move on with their lives. Holly Js bitch form is returning, i thought i would like it but i dont because its not satisfying. Stealing the money really pissed me off. Also, i love clare. I missed the ep, so howd she tell Jenna off? I dont like Bianca from the little ive seen, she seems like an Alex knockoff. Im tired of them adding new characters for a specific storyline (potential kc stealing) instead of using what theyve got for one. Now that jenna stole kc theres nothing for her to do.

Well from what I heard…Jenna and KC are definitely going to catch a case of the Karma chameleon, and Bianca is basically described as the female Jay, which I personally loved the thought of…I always wanted a girl on degrassi that was just there for the purpose of causing destruction (Holly J doesn’t count). but thats just me.

I like that they introduce new characters for things. If they want KC and Jenna to end it’s better to have Bianca steal him or do whatever, then it be Holly J, Anya or Ali.

Love the review…I agree with just about all of it…but i’m thinking all the storylines in the first week (good and bad) are mainly setups for future episodes…and I was actually heartbroken after breakaway pt.2 because I thought they would pull a season 8, and drop the storyline like nothing happened…but I read that article and i’m actually excited for the mid-first half of the season, because it seems as though (almost) everything is going to hit the fan at that point.

I’m also super excited to see the rest of the new characters and see what they bring to Degrassi. Definitely interested to see Adam on the show.

good review. though i would have given the holly j storyline a C at the least; i just didn’t think it was that bad.
ALSO, i just about had a baby heart attack at seeing the promo for MONDAY!!! I’m so excited the suspense is killing me. Can you imagine if it was the regular one episode a week schedule? I’d give the show up cold turkey, the stress would just be too much!

Holly J and Fionna was actually my 2nd fav storyline after the abuse. I thought it was cute. Holly J is my fav character and now Fionna is too. The Sav and Anya storyline for me has got old.

I liked the storylines so far on here. Even the fiona/holly j storyline, because it shows that holly j still has that mean streak in her, even though she’s trying to fix it. YAY Clare for showing Jenna whats right. And ELI! [=
On another note, I was a tad upset with Fiona’s storyline, but when I thought about it, Degrassi is doing a great job about it. Fiona wants to forget about Bobby, and the showing is doing just that: forgetting about him. Even though we all know he’s going to come back, it’ll show how Fiona can’t quite forget things that happened to her. Things never disappear.

Next week looks good! I’m excited for Eli and Clare. Not only are they cute, but I remember reading somewhere that Eli’s story is something they haven’t done yet.
Drew seems like a jerk. I don’t care how “omg he looks like taylor lautner!!!!1!” he is, using Riley’s sexuality is a rotten thing to do. And I think Riley’s justified in being a little self conscious. Yeah, I want to see the day he comes out, but he’s right when he says things would change for him, and he WOULD probably wind up getting harassed. (I blame the exclusiveness of sports. If a footballer came out in my school, he’d never hear the end of it”. And honesty, I’m glad it’s taking him time to come out. Its realistic, and I’m enjoying seeing how he’s…growing, you could say. I’m glad its going slow, instead of “- hate myself” one episode, and “I’m totally and completely out to everyone!” The next.
Okay, rant over. Haha, I can’t wait until next week!

I dunno, I like Drew’s character. He reminds me of a more developed version of s5 Peter–on the surface he’s charming, easy-going, and a “guy’s guy”, but he’s got a conniving side. However, he’s not as over the top as Peter was. The role of sneaky backstabber is a role usually given to female characters, so it’s nice to see a crafty male that isn’t portrayed as effeminate and exaggerated like Chuck Bass and JCGE Declan.

Ehhh, I kinda don’t want to see Bianca and KC as a couple. I’m hoping that what causes KC/Jenna to break up isn’t the fact that Bianca steals KC away with the intentions of making him her boyfriend, but that he just becomes a part of the “bad” crowd, which scares Jenna away. I’m tired of the new girls stealing KC away from his current girlfriends.

I personally loved the premiere. Even though the Dave and Alli plot wasn’t too interesting, no one should be mad, because it was one of the first few episodes. You shouldn’t expect the first episode to be really exciting and intense.
Clare v.s Jenna plot: Loved it. Hilarious.
Anya/Sav/Holly J: Pretty Good.
Holly J/Fiona: Liked it.
Fiona/Bobby: Really good.
And I can’t wait for more! (Which actually means, can’t wait to see Eli. xD )

99 PROBLEMS SPOILERS!
it stars with Zane and Riley working out in the park. We discover that Zane is a soccer player.Riley tells Zane that they need to put their relationship on hold until football season is over. Riley l8r meets Drew when he signs up for football. The 2 get along well, until Zane comes and signs up (for kicker) to be on the same team as Riley. Riley becomes furious and we discover then that Drew is homaphobic. L8r, when the team is working out, Owen teases Zane for being gay, and Riley doesnt defend him. After the workout, Zane and Riley have a talk about thAT and Drew overhears. The day b4 tryouts Drew suggests that they have a team barbeque, and tells Riley to bring a date. At the barbeque, Zane tells

Alli is angry that her high school experiance has been lame, (Claire has yearbook, Jenna is popular, etc) so she decides to join the powerquad. Since Chante likes her, she teaches her the cheer. The next day Alli found out that she didnt make the team. Chante tells her that she sucks, and while complaning to Claire, decides to start a rival dance troupe.

K.C. is asked to try out for football, and Jenna talks him into doing it. At the barbeque, Rileys date Marisol (the power squad girl) flirts with K.C., getting his phone number while Jenna is stuffing her face with food. Also I watched 99 problems, I have a problem with waiting for the episodes to air — I need a Degrassi fix like ALL the time lol…and I thought it was a great episode…I like that Alli didnt make the Power Squad and I definately dont blame Chantay (Alli cant cheer). But I didnt like how Jenna was hesitate to stand up for Alli (Jenna is a terrible friend and also she should not be the one given credit for K.C. improving academically).But what makes it good is she is going to start a dance team and I am interested in seeing how that will explore Alli’s character and give her individually beyond her style that she does (just to fit it). Also with Drew and Riley, Drew who is a total babe is definately stirring up Riley. I wonder how this will effect Riley’s anger issues and if they will become a problem again. I like Zane too, I think he is a genuine guy. He is putting up with Rileys mess and letting him treat him as if he is non existent—I was happy when he stood up for him in the end. Back to Jenna and K.C. its obvious that K.C. is not as invested in the relationship with Jenna, he gave another girl his number—he didnt want to credit her for her help (besides the football thing), he kept checking his phone instead of silencing it and he was checking out Clare. He is NOT going to stay with Jenna…and speaking of Jenna, I noticed her stuffing her face and she looks a little heavier (she was too busy eating when K.C. was getting hit on also helping lead up to her eating disorder in the future episodes and when she starts taking diet pills—what leads her up to thinking she fat will also be interesting to find out however I think Bianca may say something to her about it (cuz she is so mean) hmmm well see, but if someone has Part 2 (post it, I want to see how Alli and Drew hook up)—btws where was Sav when she was hooking up with Drew?

Ellie was so awesome and her cutting episodes were one of the best in my opinion though it might because ellie had main plots lol does anyone know if drake left on bad terms with the producers and if its true why? Yeah Drake left on bad terms…He felt it was “wrong” that they just up and replaced them (older cast) with the new kids. In my eyes they should have expected change was going to happen….after season 7 the only way they could go was to end the show period, or add a bunch of new kids to the mix.

I get what your saying about how they had to add new characters… but I also agree with Drake…
They didn’t have to just dump all the old characters and add a TON of new characters all at once.
That’s why I like how they are doing it this season. They are taking their time adding the new characters.
This way… when it is time for the older characters to go(Sav, Holly J., Declan, etc.) it won’t be so difficult to watch. It will kind of seem like they have been there the whole time. IMO
Because right now, I am still getting over the loss of Spinner, Emma, Manny, Jay, etc. lol

Wow I loved this episode.
This season really is good and not over the top like I was thinking.
For the first time I actually liked Chante. Finally we see her as more than just a joke of a character. Showed more of her attitude and authority.
Same for Zane. We didn’t see much of him in season 9 so I didn’t understand how people could already love him with Riley. But I did enjoy their scenes.
I’m excited for the next episode :) And I swear I’m going to try to wait for the episodes to air from now on haha

My thoughts on Holly J-
I notice a lot of people keep implying that Holly J is returning to her Season 7 ways. I don’t see it.
In S7, Holly J was just a mean spirited bitch who was out to hurt others for the enjoyment of it. That’s all. Remember when Anya asked her why she treated her like crap? “Because you let me…” was Holly’s answer. HJ was just a heartless bich. Excuse my language.
She was rich, popular, and had everything she wanted. The Queen Bee who tormented others for fun.
In Season 8, she got a reality check via her families financial trouble, getting kicked off the power squad, and being the target of a hate group (which pretty much the whole school was apart of).
While she still had her devious side(Accusing Mia of sleeping her way to the top on national TV), you could also feel compassion for her, which was something you couldn’t do in S7. It wasn’t until this season that we actually saw Holly J for who she really was. We could finally relate to the struggles she was going through.
There’s no way you can say she was the same in both seasons.
In Season 9, I personally thought she was boring. She lost her edge. She just didn’t seem like Holly J to me. I know everyone wants her to be this really nice chick, but no one changes overnight. I think she’ll always have a mean girl side to her, even if it’s hidden down deep. It’s who she is. At least in my opinion.
So far I like where she’s heading in S10. She’s a survivor this season. Doing whatever it takes. She’s genuinely a good person but when times get hard and when there’s no hope- that’s when she brings out the claws! And I LOVE that! She’s not walking around and doing these things just for fun like in S7, but for a purpose.
She lied to Sav in order to secure her position as student counsel president. She stole Fiona’s money for a prep course. She’s not doing this just for kicks. The girl is trying to make it! I like that.
Though to be honest, I don’t like Declan being the only reason she wants to go to Yale.

Actually, Chantay was a junior in Season 8 and 9. She was in Junior English with Anya, Holly J, Mia, and Sav, remember when all the Juniors had to give a speech about where they saw themselves five years from now?
But you’re sorta right. Chantay should’ve graduated a long time ago. The only possible explanation as to why she’s still there is that she was in eighth grade in Season 4, which I really don’t buy.

and i have a theory about KC’s phone ringing: i dont think it’s always marisol. i think it’s a setup for the later plot of KC’s mother returning. like, she’s calling him constantly to say she’s coming and he’s trying to avoid her.

I think we’ll see Bianca again tuesday when Alli does the dance troupe, just judging from the Much Music promo and the youtube video: ‘On Set With Alicia’ she there says she likes to dance in real life, and her character does too.

they “pulled a chantay” (as some commenter on here once said, i think). originally, it was implied that he was in peter’s grade, but the writers needed to keep him around, so they indiscreetly moved him down a grade.

Riley was in English class with Mia, Sav, Blue, Chantay, and Holly J in “Didn’t We Almost Have It All” so you could say he was a Junior in S8/S9, but was taking a higher level science class with Peter.

Yeah it was never implied in season 8 what grade he was actually in…and Teennick/The N has a history of “F-ing” up info because we have to remember they did spell Alli’s name wrong! LMAO and U can’t really go with what classes someone is in when ur in high school due to the fact u could be in a advanced class, or u failed a class and have to take it again! lol

Just watching these first few episodes has got me really excited for next few:)
Okay, at first I was thinking about how much I wanted Clare and KC to get back together(and I still sort of do) but now that we finally met Eli in the 4th episode… I think her and Eli would be good together. I love how he is the different kid who drives a herse and dresses in black. He seems like the last person Clare, of all people, would be interested in but I think they would make such a cute couple together and I am glad she is moving on from KC.
Jenna, on the other hand, is a whole other story. I cannot stand the relationship her and KC have. It seems like he doesn’t even want a relationship with her and I was never a fan of the Jenna character to begin with. She was never a good friend to anyone and all she ever cared about was stealing KC away from Clare.
I am glad they are bringing back the Fiona/Bobby plot later on but at the same time.. I am so excited to see other people’s storylines besides Fiona’s that I am tired of seeing Fiona on the screen for a while. lol I am happy KC’s plot about his mom is coming up because it almost reminds me of Sean with his parents:)
Getting to see more of Eli is the thing I am most excited for because he seems like the coolest character right now that would have the most interesting storylines.
I can’t wait for tomarrow so I can see more of my beloved Degrassi:) lol

something very small that i noticed upon watching the eps for the third time: when bobby sees fiona’s black eye at the party, he says “sorry.” as in, not “soorry”. my point is, he says it with an AMERICAN ACCENT, even tho he’s obviously a canadian actor. but his character is from new york. either he’s a pretty insightful actor to think to make that change, or the directors and/or writers are really paying attention to the details! sorry, this just relly impressed me.
also, sorry to mention Glee twice in one comment thread, but did any other Gleeks realize that fiona and holly j locking pinkies at the end of breakaway was disconcertingly similar to Brittany and Santana?
and one last thing: i loved how the very end of WAGW part 1 was incredibly similar to the carnival promo: fiona putting makeup over her black eye.

Ok this movie was ok. Holly j and Fiona were pretty good Jane plot mostly boring until the last 20 minutes…loved manny’s spas attack omg brought back darcey and Paige memories wen manny fought each of them
anyway, I was shocked at the spinner Emma thing becuz I have grown to love them both since season 1 but in different ways. Both of them together? Wow. It acually came together though and if it hadn’t been so sudden I may have fallen in love. Spinner is good with Emma but Emma needs Sean….
For whoever asked, Tobey was there acually but they used a look alike tobes becuz the real 1 wasn’t able to be reached hee hee love it :)
found the holly j’ scene locking Fiona in the room hilarius and nessesary, holly needed her bitchyness back and this brought it ON!!!!
Since this is degrassi and it always brings failure to relationships in the end, holly j and Declan probably will not last wich makes me sad. They r both bratty and smart they r perfect tho I am not crazy for either chracter Declan is sexy and I enjoy watching them

I liked the whole Emma and Spinner thing – I think that it makes sense – they both are down to earth people who have been hurt repeated by those they love (not to mention the only two originals left) Prior to this season, I had heard rumors of split seasons – one season of the new kids and then another season of the olds and a possible marriage between manny and jay – does anyone know if this is true? I miss the old characters- the story is just kinda cheesy now. No offense.

Pesonally I find the bullies such as jay to be hot…girl version? I’m happy about this but will miss crushing on the bad boy.
And what that dude does to Riley!!!!! Love Riley but am happy to see backstabbing come in. Brings back hot and jerkish peter from using manny. I’m glad becuz that was a HUGLY popular storyline and one o my favorites of that season along with emmas eatin prob.
But yeah we Need those hot, jerks who get their way by using inocent ppl and hittin on the good girls…examples of this

Degrassiobsessed uhmm Manny isn’t very much a good girl lol I thouqht venus was a pretty good start to season 5 much better than season 6, 8, and 9. Other ones weren’t that bad tbh.
Back on topic though I liked how Peter went from good to bad to good to bad to permanetly good. I think drew will be the same. And im curious to see what the scene is about when Sav, Adam, and Bianca are stopped by cops and i think bianca says floor it. And of course I can’t wait for the adam episode my body is a cage I know I will love his/her charecter. So excited.

Why is everyone saying KC and Bianca are like Jay and Alex? I think they are a lot more like Sean and Amy. Atleast KC is more like Sean, Amy never had a big part, we didn’t know much about her except that she was a bad kid and a slut.
I think Bobby is going to come back, and cause the lockdown.
I love Eli, NEW FAVORITE CHARACTER! he is adorable, I don’t like him and claire… I like Eli and Jenna! (Me!) Haha, but If he had to be with someone I think Claire is a good choice!

do you think eli will do something crazy like suicide? From the little ive seen he is now my favorite. Hes adorable and Raymond Ablack said that he is going to have a storyline that has never been done before and that will take everyone by surprise…thats like the only thing they havent done.

Dave is probably the biggest loser of all time. If I acted like that when I was in tenth grade, I’d be pretty depressed about myself. Then again, Ally is pretty pathetic as well, probably the most pathetic in Degrassi history. I think these should date because they have no self confidence and only care how others view them.

No offense, but I think the new seasons of DeGRassi are terrible. Not only are the beloved characters gone but they seem to repeat the same storylines over and over without the original sentiment. There is no way that Fionas abuse story is anywhere near as moving or sincere as the one experienced by CRaig.
