[WARNING: THIS EPISODE REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS]

It’s pretty hard to grade Keep On Loving You, given that it has a different feel than most of the episodes.  The actors (Charlotte Arnold, Landon Liboiron) are strong and I expect nothing less from them, but there isn’t much there in the form of actual material in this episode.  Filler episode much?

Declan and Holly J end up having sex for the first time, but not before Holly J drops an “I love you” on him.  She’s upset when he doesn’t say it back (and rightfully so), and fears that he’s just not that into her.  It turns out it’s the exact opposite:  he’s loves her, but he’s afraid to say it.  Holly J learns this from a tense encounter with Fiona.

Hey look..it's the return of FACERANGE (aka Degrassi's Facebook) I still prefer MyRoom, haha.

Fiona comes off as a b**** in this episode, not hiding the fact that she doesn’t like Holly J…and she blatantly tries to sabotage Holly J and Declan’s relationship by “accidentally” telling Holly J about the Coyne’s plans to move back to Manhattan.  Fiona’s behavior seems out of character from the way she’s behaved in most of her appearances this season, except for in Heart Like Mine Part 2 when she also had an unnecessary attitude toward Holly J.

This episode is so rushed in the fact that they learn Declan is leaving, Holly J’s ok with it and Declan directs the play without a problem.  It’s only until the last sixty seconds of the episode that we get to the point: earlier in the episode, you see Declan hack into Holly J’s email account.  At the end, Holly J receives a text saying she’s been accepted for an internship in New York for the summer.

Declan and Holly J are headed to New York...and so are we!! DEGRASSI TAKES MANHATTAN premieres Friday, July 16th on Much Music and TeenNick.

Alas, the fact that Keep On Loving You was rushed and nothing of interest actually happened now makes sense…this episode is nothing more than a setup for this summer’s movie, DEGRASSI TAKES MANHATTAN!

As great as it is for them to setup the movie they could’ve done a better job with this, especially given that they had two strong characters in Holly J and Declan to work with.

KEEP ON LOVING YOU MAIN PLOT GRADE: C+

SUBPLOT: Danny/Peter/Chantay

Chanteter, Petay, Cheter, Pantay...coming up with random couple names for Peter and Chantay (Danny's SOOOO jealous).

Any non Holly J/Declan stuff in this episode involved the play, which characters have been working on for almost the entire season.  Peter and Chantay have a part in the play where they kiss each other, and that doesn’t set well with Danny.

So here’s the solution: Danny’s sick so Peter decides to drink from Danny’s water bottle so he can get sick and won’t have to kiss Chantay only Chantay grabs the bottle and drinks from it and she gets sick so now she’s out of the play and mad at both Danny and Peter for being insecure jerks but it’s okay because in the end Peter and Danny book an encore presentation of the play at Above The Dot so that Chantay can be in it and live happily ever after….phew, did you get all that?

And as annoying as the run-on sentence is for you to read, that’s how annoying this subplot was for me.

    2. I found this episode(the main-plot) one of the better episodes of the season. Yes it was a little rushed, but that didn’t ruin the whole episode. And kary you’re wrong about fiona. She didn’t try to sabatoge anything. She made an actaul honest mistake. The only reason she’s being mean is becuz she’s is just moody about living in toronto. This episode deserved a better grade.

  2. Now that you put it in that light, I agree. It was simply a filler. I liked seeing a different side to both of them, and I thought that the sub-plot was okay, but yes, they really did rush a lot of things.

      1. I don’t think Emma or Paige was.
Clare hasn;t ACTUALLY had the opportunity.\
I guess you’re right about Darcy, but I think it is a bit different than I mean because it’s only a sideline issue until she is raped. Post-rape, it’s kind of a moot point.

      2. Emma doesn’t make light of sex?! Did you forget the whole whoring herself for bracelets thing (and I don’t want to hear “BUT ZOMG TEH SHOOTING!!111!one!, that’s no excuse)?

      3. Emma had sex with Sean, remember she took a pregnancy test. Paige had sex with Spinner and other people i think. Darcy had sex with Peter.

  9. I enjoyed the Declan and Holly J stuff but I didn’t feel like the episode was strong enough. They are becoming one of my favorite couples.

I actually like seeing a little more attitude with Fiona.

At first seeing Chantay, Danny and Peter seemed good since they have been on the show longer than most of the other characters. But I felt like this was way to boring and silly for the last episode. Honestly I would expect this kind of story for younger characters. I was very bored by that.

And I thought the musical would be better. We’ve been waiting for it all season.

Oh well hopefully the movie will be better.

  10. I don’t think Fiona was a bi*** in this episode as much as she was just…eccentric. She seems extremely absorbed in herself and her brother, and the fact that she was so excited to leave Degrassi shows that she’s not going to be quite an emotionally void character. WHICH, given all the previous drama queens (Emma, Darcy, Manny) is kinda a breath of fresh air. :)

  11. In the Movie I believe Jane Gets pregnant, Emma turns to drugs because of her problems. Someone gets a disease. Spinner finds out about jane and declan through fiona to break declan and Holly j up but Fiona dooesnt realize how much she hurts declan. Thats all i can think of right now…

  13. That’s the play they were working on all season?
I thought it was going to be a cool musical, perhaps shown in the movie, but instead it was the lame play about an alien in highschool.

Anyway, that was a lame episode. and a stupid subplot. who the hell invented that chantay storyline? that was so dumb.

This was just a set up for the movie, and it wasn’t exactly HORRIBLE, but nothing was awesome in the episode.. just lame.

  21. Seeing as how Declan is the worst character on the show right now, I didn’t enjoy this one bit. I never cared for Holly J, but they changed her character to “hopeless romantic” so I no longer even care enough to hate her. In addition, the subplot involved was stupid because it shows a shallowness in Danny that they just randomly decided to throw in for no reason.

Overall, this episode was NOWHERE near the pit of garbage that Innocent While I Dream was, but it was still pretty bad.

  22. So, Holly J. finally lost her v-card. I think Declan was a good choice to lose it with; I’m really glad she got out of that phase where she just wanted to do it beacause it seemed everyone else had already done it.
And now they get to spend the whole summer together. How cute. :)

  23. Agreed, this episode was unfortunate after the great run they’d been having. Although I thought the Holly J/Declan storyline was kind of refreshing, in that it didn’t involve a lot of intrigue or sneaking around, not saying what they really mean. Part of why Holly J is my favourite character currently on the show is she’s forthright.

The Danny/Chantay/Peter storyline was pretty whack. The musical was pretty funny, but the best thing was that it was called “Space Awakening”. Hilarious. And I did like that in the end, everyone realized they were being a dumb.

Excited for the movie though. But if Emma is marrying Spinner, I’m never watching this show again.
