MAIN PLOT: Holly J is desperate to take an SAT class to improve her chances at getting into Yale.
As mentioned in the video review a disappointing part of this episode is Fiona’s staying in Toronto, so it feels like the abuse storyline has been dropped (that’s not the case though, since this article says Bobby will be returning later in the season). Either way, the story shifts to an underlying issue for Holly J that was established earlier in the season.
She’s broke.
And now that she’s lost the election, she’s in desperate need of something to help her get into Yale. Ms. Sauve offers her information about an SAT Prep Course, but Holly J can’t afford it.
She’s then subjected to Fiona unintentionally showing off her money as she purchases furniture that costs around $4000. Fiona doesn’t even mind that Holly J knows the password to her bank account, and Miss J decides to (without Fiona’s permission) pay for the SAT course with Fiona’s money.
Fiona’s mad at first, but then forgives Holly J the next day. Fiona’s instant forgiveness is frustating. They’re two girls that are desperate, but for different reasons: Holly J about Yale, and Fiona needing friendship. After what we’ve seen so far this season it’s hard to believe the plot in this episode will stand out. What are you likely to remember: Fiona getting thrown down the stairs, or this plot that supposed to be a test of Fiona and Holly J’s friendship (but not really because they sorta need each other)?

SUBPLOT 1: Sav and Anya have relationship troubles…again.
With the election out of the way, the plot is given more time to focus on Sav and Anya’s relationship….and their fake pregnancy. The pregnancy is quickly dispatched by Anya, who lies to the entire school and says she had a miscarriage.
Sanya hits a rough patch when Sav’s mom catches Sav and Anya together in Sav’s living room. Sav goes back to being the Sav we all know and are frustrated with: he refuses to come clean about his relationship with Anya.
Anya doesn’t put up with any of that, and ends things between them. Lies, lies, everywhere…everyone has lied in this plot since it began in What A Girl Wants, and it’s ironic how they ended right back where they started.

SUBPLOT 1: Clare confronts Jenna about starting the rumor about her.
Interesting. Funny. That’s how I’d describe Clare’s plot in this episode, a MASSIVE improvement over the plot in Breakaway Pt. 1. The guys from the nerd squad nominate Wesley to find out if Clare really got the boob job. Hilarity ensues as Clare genuinely thinks Wesley wants to touch her “tender” eyes, and Wesley awkwardly grabs her boobs instead.
Though Clare still comes off a little too nice when she confronts Jenna about starting the rumor, but I’ll take it because she reminds Jenna that she’s still a legitimate threat Jenna and KC’s relationship.
Oh, and we get to meet Eli. Though brief, we know Clare’s going to be seeing a lot more of him.

Woah! This is the best season ever!! Degrassi is finally interesting. My favorite plot here is the Anya/Sav/holly j plot, but in this episode i actually liked the fiona and holly j plot. (probably because holly j and fiona are my two favorite characters) ;) anyway thnx for the review!
I think bobby could be a big reason for the lockdown maybe he tries to hold students inside hostage maybe holly j since im assuming she will be fiona`s best friend this year. Claire seemed to nice I really hope Claire gets into a catfight with Jenna or maybe Bianca ? Maybe that’s the best catfight? So excited for next week I can’t wait.

ok, now i heard about an acticle saying that he might be back on the 20th episode and towards the end of the season.
Don’t forget fiona went all the way up to Toronto so if ahe could Bobby could too.
Well, since he’s abusive and she dared to defy him, he could follow her to Toronto. I really do think he’s the reason for the lockdown.
Seems like this whole 3 plots an episode isn’t working out too well. Two of them are always good and one always sucks. Hopefully this won’t continue.
I think the Fiona-Holly J plot wasn’t meant to be strong on its own, but to show that Fiona’s moved her dependency issues from Declan to Holly J. Since she basically turned the 2000 dollars into owning Holly J’s friendship for the next 8 months.
The C level plots seem to be at an odd timetable. Neither one (Alli-Dave, Clare-Jenna) is short enough to have been made a single episode plot, but neither is long enough to really fulfill through the two parter. Thankfully its a C plot, so the A and B plots can hold them up when they’re weak (which they have).

Anyways. I usually decide to not watch the episodes early, but since next week Teennick and Much have the same schedule, I decided to just watch them anyhow, because it really wouldn’t hurt a thing.
Also, I absolutely loved Clare’s storyline in this episode because she’s very sarcastic, and showing some character. But, the only reason why this plot was my favorite, was because they introduced us to Eli! :D

Sav and Anya’s wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I’m kind of feeling sorry for her. Lol.
And it looks like Holly J might be going back to her old ways….Stealing money from Fiona. Having Anya lie about the pregnancy. I like it though. Haha.

idk why…theres something i dont like about the boiling point. Dont get me wrong, I love Degrassi and im enjoying the boiling point so far, but idk what it is that kinda bothers me? One thing is the whole 3 plots in a half hour episode, i guess. i think it holds the main plot back from being at its best. also, the storylines and arrangement of them seem just mediocre…but hey, its the first week, who knows whats in store for us these next few weeks:)
Nah, you’re just being picky. I love the new arrangement. It seems neat and I love how each episode flows into the next.
I agree with the subplot grades, but I think the Fiona/Holly J plot should be at least a B. My reasoning for this is because it sets up for the future episode where Holly J becomes even more desperate for money, plus Fiona has to have Holly J as a friend to keep Bobby off of her mind.
this is by far my favorite episode!
for those lucky to see the movie and the 4 eps (brfore they came out), we get to catch up… finally. for some reason i think these next eps are going to be more interesting!

i’m so excited for a clare/eli pairing! the more i watch the credits the more endearing he seems [especially with the bio up on MM]. Though KC is beginning to pale in comparison, I still want Clare to rip his and Jenna’s relationship to shreds. I don’t see how anyone can like Jenna, it’s obvious how jealous she is of Clare and how she’s never really been able to keep Clare down. hence why I love Clare, because she’s such a relatable character [even if a bit naive sometimes].
I can’t get enough of this episode! I’ve watched it online like 5000 times. “..super bummer.” Oh Anya.
I like that they show 4 episodes a week because we can get through those bad episodes fast with a good one a day or two away, same goes for the 3 plots a episode.

First off, let me just say that I got lucky as HELL today at the tennis tournament, I’M IN THE FINALS!!! One more match and I’m the champion, and afterwards off to Golden Corral for meatloaf; sweet sweet meatloaf.
Okay well, this was a good epsiode. Clare finally steppin up and ethering Jenna was good tv. Sav promised Anya dat he was going to step up and tell his parents about everything BUT… nothing. Anya now is no fool. The E-Clare moment was good. I thought that they met by a bench, but it turned out it was by that ba hearse he drives. It was pretty funny that Clare was back and forth on the glasses but after they died, she was like SCREW IT and promptly discarded them. I think what would’ve made this episode WIN if Clare storming up to KC and applying lip service, then telling Jenna “THAT… was not fake.” Oh well, things will play their course I’m sure.
I’m definitely super excited to see Eli. He just seems so mysterious to me and I can’t wait to see what his character will bring to Degrassi.
And about the episodes gliding into the next one, I think it’s pretty interesting. Now, it’s kind of like you need to have watched the previous episodes to understand what is going on while in the past you really didn’t need to unless it had two parts to it.
It seems like they have more issues and it’s kinda nice to see an important issue not being ended when the credits roll.
I really like the video idea. It’s going really well, it’s also a lot quicker. And because I live in America and I’m behind on episodes, this is way better to scroll down on because I won’t have to worry about the pictures ruining it for me.

The 3-plot format seems to be a throwback to 80s Degrassi, where C-plots were generally goofier. While a little weak on their own, these 2 plots have provided set-ups for future, no doubt more serious storylines. I think that the Clare/Jenna storyline really nicely set up the Jenna/diet pill abuse storyline that’s coming up later this season.

I don’t know..It seems like the same thing is happening with Terry and Rick. Fiona gets a “perfect” boyfriend. He is abusive..She brakes up with him..he comes back..And if he does cause the lockdown then it will be strangely similar..I really like these new episode’s, I just hope it doesn’t become repetitive. The only difference is that Bobby doesn’t feel bad afterwords..like Rick did.
Bobby looked like he felt bad the first times he hit her. He even said sorry I think.

Like I said before…there is a huge differences between Fiona/Bobby and Terri/Rick, Because they actually cover 2 totally different degrees as to why abuse occurs…with Terri and Rick, it was because Rick was mainly insecure with himself, therefore he felt he needed to overpower and control Terri, with the case of Fiona and Bobby, he basically is just playing mind games…its like a game to him, and he knows he can get away with it due to her unstable past.
You`re probably right but just curious which abuse storyline do you like better? Season 3`s? Or season`s 10 storyline?
They’re a lot different…but i think i like Season 3′s a little more.
As of now I don’t know which one I like…but i’m actually leaning towards Fiona’s due to the fact that it’s giving us more info on how her mind is working. and I know this is off topic, but when Fiona and Declan were first cast I honestly thought they were just 2 pretty faces with no talent…but they both have proved me wrong. (:

I just got finished watching the new episode Breakaway pt 2.
I thought Clare handled the situation the Clare-way. She did great, held her ground while at the same time not going all crazy. And I thought it was pretty funny that Jenna and the whole posse thought she had a boob job when anyone with a mind knows that it doesn’t heal overnight so that should’ve been a warning sign that she didn’t get a boob job.
I can’t wait for more Eli and Clare in the next episode, it looks amazing!
As far as the D+ for Fiona and Holly J, I thought it could’ve been rated higher because I see this little incident foreshadowing a more deeper/darker set up in the future.
Clare meets Eli? Finally! A good guy for Clare! One of my favorite characters!

I liked this episode!! Clare telling off Jenna really just completed my life. And Eli, OMG I can’t even deal with it.
Holly J and Fionna was actually my fav storyline. The money wasn’t that big of a deal because Fionna has plenty. It was because she trusted Holly J. There is no need to drag the being mad situation on any longer. Holly J was really sorry. I think she learned her lesson. I liked Claire storyline. It was funny. The Sav and Anya storyline for me has got old.

Oh my goodness I’m so excited…I’m american so haveonly seen the latest episode here and loved Eli the minute I saw that mysterious face give Claire the “I so am gonna end up with u cuz this is frickin degrassi and opposites attract” loop eeeek he’s perfect clraire needs a bad boy type..would love to see her and Jenna continue their rivalry further and now that Eli is here I am over kc and Claire….but want Claire to crush him and Jenna for me ;)
FINALLY my old degrassi storines and excitment is back I missed the Fire from oldies and it went out for a while but now it’s back!!!!
Will never be AS good again I miss manny and jt and jay and Emma and Sean and elli and Paige and all of em but I’m looking forward to a NEW cast and new episodes!!!!!
I agree with most of you guys. Yes Sav and Anya have broke up and got back together too many times… just either make them work or break them up. Find some other characters to be their love interest.

As for the Clare/Jenna subplot goes… I thought it was funny and it had me saying “omg when will they find out shes NOT getting a boob job!!!!!” you know the storylines were they think something bad is happening and it’s really not and the other person has NO IDEA that there talking about something bad… and it’s like omg someone just say the ACTUAL thing thats going on. If that made any sense, that was what it was like for me.
Overall i’m loving this season and I think it’s gonna be great. Can’t wait for Monday for the Riley storyline. =)

These episodes are looking good. As some people already said I hope that there wont be any repetitiveness going on. The characters are already similar enough from previous DTNG. Like Clare and Alli= Emma and Manny, Eli= Female Elli, Bobby= Rick, Dave= JT…etc. But at least Bobby is more of a psycho than Rick was. Anyway can’t wait, Im exited to see Adam’s story, and the rivalry between Riley and Drew…and the whole Bianca and KC thing. :D
Does anyone else see that Fiona is already totally dependent and trying to control Holly J.? I feel like she’s going to freak out when Holly J. makes any new friends (perhaps reconciles with Anya again?), or when Declan comes in town.
Eli is adorable. I’m starting to get jealous of Claire. He’s PERFECT! If he dies/commits suicide I will be crushed. He is too cute!

Nice review. I feel that the main plot was… eh. I would have expected a better, more sinster test in Holly J and Fiona’s friendship.
I might be the only person who is heartbroken that Leia hasn’t shown up in any of the new episodes yet… </3 I think that she could be great new BFF for Anya (they LARP together… does that not mean anything?), and could've been a good support for Anya in her plot during Breakaway. But no… They just make her a liar for no reason, as well as a boring girlfriend/friend. They should really expand on her character somehow, even if it is with another person in the plot, otherwise she will be thrown to the wayside like Blue was, which was also unfortunate.
