DEGRASSI MARCH MADNESS: CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND!!!

Wow.  I couldn’t believe my eyes when I looked at the final results.  The Emma vs. Spinner matchup was crazy when Spin won by only three votes, but THIS was insane. You can’t script an ending like that.

I causally checked the results over the voting period and Paige held onto the lead for most of the time.  Then in about the last 10 hours of voting is when her lead started disappearing and it became one of those things where Ellie and Paige kept going back and forth.

CONGRATS TO ELLIE NASH FOR BEING THIS YEAR’S DEGRASSI MARCH MADNESS CHAMPION!!!!  You can CLICK HERE to see the final version of the bracket.  Over 23,000 total votes were cast throughout the entire tournament…thanks to everyone that took the time to vote for  your favorite Degrassi characters.  Next year’s Degrassi March Madness will be a different category…you’ll have to wait until next year to find out!

Oh yeah…none of this would’ve been possible if it weren’t for our sponsor.  Degrassi March Madness was brought to you by Snake Flakes. Made with 100% real snakes…Snake Flakes: Taste the Snake!

Degrassi Mini Review: Good Times

[WARNING: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS]

Dave and Bruce sit back, relax and watch (and mock) the cheesiness that is Degrassi.

After a rash of extremely weak minis (so bad I refuse to mention their names), Degrassi bounces back with one that made me laugh my butt off.  It restores my faith in the producers’ abilities to churn out extra content that’s just as entertaining (and maybe even moreso) than the actual episodes.

Only SPINNER gets to notice Jane's boobs.

Jane and the band are having practice after school, but it keeps getting interrupted: Anya storms in mad at Sav and Jane for getting Holly J and Declan together (ruining her English project).  Chantay comes in and chats with Danny, and Declan and Holly J crash the practice too.

While Jane’s frustrated by all the distractions, Bruce sits in the background with Dave, providing mocking commentary about what’s going on.  It’s funny how he mention things about everyone in the band (and their counterparts) being nonstop drama, and one of my personal faves, noticing how Chantay’s always been a background character.

"So you want me....to lend you...my girlfriend?"

The great thing about Good Times is that each part is funnier than the last.  Parts 1, 2 and 3 are the setup for Part 4, a ridiculous exercise of Degrassi’s self awareness.  It knows it’s an overdramatic, overly cheesy show; it’s funny that Bruce vocalizes said cheesiness by listing all of the hookups on the show, while the cast just sits there soaking it all in.

The icing on the cake is when Bruce reveals in Part 4 that he’s got a thing for Jane, and thinks that since Jane is the only one who has only had one love interest on the show (Spinner), he should have a love affair with her.

If only he knew about Jane and Declan…

….OR DOES HE????? (The music = hilarious)

BREAKING NEWS: DEGRASSI MOVES TO MUCHMUSIC THIS SUMMER

Degrassi and MuchMusic are officially "In A Relationship!" Degrassi is moving away from CTV, and will air new episodes exclusively on MuchMusic.

I place this under BREAKING NEWS because the fact Degrassi is switching networks is kinda HUUUUGE.

The Exec tweeted this article that MuchMusic released, saying they’ll be airing the Degrassi Takes Manhattan movie, as well as the batch of 24 episodes scheduled to air this summer.  Below’s the article in its entirety:

UH!!! Spring is in the air, UH!!! We’re feeling GOOD!!!!!! WOO! Sandals on feet, daffodils in bloom, crazies in full effect, yessssssssss.

Ok, maybe we’re getting a little overexcited a little too early – but here’s something we can really be super stoked about: Degrassi: The Next Generation is moving exclusively to MuchMusic this summer!

Season 10 begins production later this month and come the sunny season we’ll debut 48 brand new 30 minute episodes, as well as the TV movie D: NYC – Degrassi Takes Manhattan. We’ll fill you in on more scoop as we get it, but look forward to a ton of original online content and of course, a drama-filled, salacious, intriguing (yet heartwarming), all-new season of Degrassi: TNG … on MuchMusic!

Season 10 will also premiere in the US this summer on TeenNick, Nickelodeon’s 24-hour TV network for teens.

I’m assuming by this that CTV will still be airing the final five episodes of Season 9, which will hopefully start in April.  There’s always worry when a show switches networks, because if it were doing well enough in the ratings CTV wouldn’t let Degrassi go.  But maybe a fresh start on a new network is what Degrassi needs to draw in bigger numbers. What really peaks my interest is the fact they say there will be lots of original online content.  I’m a sucker for extra stuff…hopefully MuchMusic will put more effort into that than CTV did.

April Return for Degrassi on CTV?

Well CTV’s schedule has been updated through Sunday March 28, and once again Degrassi is missing from the lineup.  The show “Human Target” is still in Degrassi’s 7pm slot. If I’m calculating it right, the last episode of Human Target’s season *should* air on the 28th…hopefully that means Degrassi could return as early as Sunday, April 4th.

Yeah it’s great that TeenNick will be airing Why Can’t This Be Love (Broken Promises) first, but regardless, CTV will still be four episodes ahead (Heart Like Mine 1 and 2, Holiday Road, Start Me Up)…so if they don’t return in early April it might be a while before we get to see a new episode…AGAIN.
