New Degrassi Mini On The Way

A new Degrassi mini is on the way!!

It’s titled “Searching for Sinder3lla” (yes, that’s supposed to be a “3″, not an E).  Watch out for it during Degrassi’s Every Episode Marathon on Friday (1/1/10), and hopefully they won’t be slack about posting it online at http://www.teennick.com/theclick/.  The only hint I’ll give you is that Declan and Sav are the main characters, and it’s going to be broken up into several different parts.  I’ll review it sometime tomorrow.

I hope everyone has a wonderful New Year’s Eve, and hopefully we’ll be treated to some really awesome Degrassi stuff in 2010!! :-)

[UPDATE as of 1/1/10] Click here to read my review of Searching for Sinder3lla Part 1 and 2.

Degrassi Returns To TeenNick In February

If you predicted that Degrassi would return to TeenNick in February, pat yourself on the back.  If you ALSO predicted that they’d kick off their return in February with a Valentine’s day-type episode [I believe I called it here :-p], then you also win a million dollars!!! I’m gonna spend all of my money on french fries.

Degrassi returns to TeenNick in February 2010 with a “special” episode entitled Love Games.  In other words, it’s just the episodes ”Waiting for a Girl Like You” and “Somebody” aired together, and given a fancy name.  For those of you that haven’t seen those episodes yet, the basic idea is that Declan falls for Holly J.

There wasn’t a specific date set yet, but I’m assuming it’s going to air on Friday, February 12 (since V-day is that Sunday).

New Degrassi Characters A Comin’?

Don't worry guys...we're confused too.

The quest to find out what surprising thing Degrassi has in store for us in Season 10 continues on The Exec’s twitter:

****************
well, not sure if there will be a theme change, but there probably will be at least a couple of new characters…

.. but of course neither of those would be surprising… and not what i’m talking about! (lol rather, NOT talking about!)
****************

So basically we still have no clue what this new thing is.  But I thought it was interesting that he mentioned something about new characters.  It’s not 100% confirmed by any stretch, but I kinda wanna know what these new characters would be all about.  Are they going to be added onto the cast or are they replace graduating characters?

And what are they going to do with the kids that have graduated?  I don’t know about you, but I’m not really interested in another stint of following characters to college…the first go round was a complete waste.

Either way, I don’t mind new characters as long as they are interesting.

And as far as them possibly doing a new theme?  The only issue I have is that if they’re going to do a new theme song, they need to completely re-cut the opening credits.  I can’t be the only person that notices it, but the video (most of it still from Season 8′s opening) and the new audio for Season 9′s opening credits are out of sync, and it’s very distracting.

Oh well…keep harassing The Exec until he caves and tells us what’s up with Season 10!!!

12 Days of Degrassi: No Hour-Long Episodes

Merry Christmas!!!! The Exec’s idea of a gift this morning on twitter is telling us that Degrassi will NOT be changing into an hour-long show:

****************
Hint: The new and surprising thing about Degrassi 10 is not that it will become hour-long…

(it might be shown as hourlong sometimes, but that’s not the new and surprising thing I was talking about!)
****************

This is kinda like opening a Christmas box with a card that makes you play some sort of game to find out what your gift is.  Oh Exec why are you playing games with my heart on Christmas?

I need a pick me up….TOBY!!! Merry Christmas!! :-)

12 Days of Degrassi: Top Ten Episodes

All of my top ten favorite epsiodes come from seasons 1, 2 and 3, which I kind find of weird.

10) Coming of Age
The main plot with Jimmy basically a remake of a storyline Lucy had in Degrassi Junior High…his parents are never around.  I felt so bad for him.  Emma getting her period was hilarious.  I’ll never forget that guy wanting to lick Spike’s “cone.”

-

9) Against All Odds
It lands a spot in my top ten list because it was the first episode of Degrassi I ever watched.

-

8) Take My Breath Away
I really like the way this episode was done, showing both Craig and Manny’s different perspectives on the date.  And the subplot with Ellie’s crush on Marco was really cute.

-

7) When Doves Cry
Craig Manning…heavy topic (abuse)…one of the best storylines Degrassi’s ever had.

-

6) Our House
A great episode where the Ellie influence factor shows in Sean, and he finally matures.

-

5) Friday Night
It’s still boasts THE BEST Semma action to date.

-

4) Drive
I openly admit this is one of the most BORING episodes ever.  I mean a majority of the time the guys don’t even do anything.  But it reminds me of the good old days of hanging out with the guys in my neighborhood.  Oh, and the main plot is another remake of an old Degrassi Junior High episode.

-

3) Weird Science
Rooting for Snake to put Emma in her place b/c she acted like a jerk the entire episode….oh, and SPINNER’S BONER!

-

2) Take On Me
I *think* that this is the episode with the smallest amount of character appearances (Sean, Ellie, Jimmy, Hazel, Toby, Mr. Raditch, Snake, JT).  But I love it so much, because how awesome would it be to just be able to roam around an empty school for a while? (Weird, I know).

-

1) Rock and Roll High School
Who cares if it’s ridiculous that half of the cast magically possess musical talent.  It’s the most fun episode of Degrassi ever. EVER people!!!

-

Honorable Mentions: Tears Are Not Enough, Should I Stay or Should I Go?, Mercy Street, King of Pain, Time Stands Still, Back in Black, Weddings Parties Anything, The Lexicon of Love, Eyes Without A Face, What It Feels Like To Be A Ghost, Standing in the Dark, Death or Glory, Heart of Glass, Beat It

12 Days Of Degrassi: Favorite Degrassi Mini

I can’t tell you how much fun this mini is to watch, and how happy it makes me.

*Tolly J

*Liberty: Toby…baby…what is this?
Holly J: None of your business Mrs. Urkel.

*Darcy and Paige kiss

*Spinner’s best kiss…..LOLZ!

*Extremely random Sellie action

*Sean’s reaction to Emma/Damian

*Emma: Damian makes love, not war…that’s why we’re leaving together (Emma is obviously high on something haha)

*Toby: Sean my man trust me, there are plenty of fish in the sea.

Aww this mini kinda makes me wish Toby and Holly J had gotten together!

12 Days of Degrassi: Favorite Season

-

What is your favorite Season of Degrassi? I love how mine is so predicatable…

Dear Season 3, I LOVE YOU. -Kary

Season 3 always has and probably always  will be my favorite season.  There’s a lot of great episodes (four of my Top 10 favorite eps of all time are in Season 3)…I’m also pretty biased too considering I started watching Degrassi halfway during Season 3, so I’ve got the whole nostalgia thing going on too.

I figured while I’m at it, I’d go ahead and rank all of the Seasons from best to worst (excluding Season 9, since it’s not finished yet):

1) Season 3
Pretty much summed it up above.

[Favorite Episodes]: Rock and Roll High School, Take On Me, Our House, Against All Odds, Pride, Gangsta Gangsta, It’s Raining Men, Don’t Dream It’s Over

-

2) Season 4
Pretty much as solid as Season 3.  Started off super strong, but slowly faded off after TSS (kinda hard to top that episode though…the season climaxed a little too early).  Eye of the Tiger could’ve been re-worked to be a great finale, because I could do without the final six episodes after that.

[Favorite Episodes]: King Of Pain, Mercy Street, Islands in the Stream, Time Stands Still, Back In Black, Voices Carry, Eye of the Tiger

-

3) Season 2
A thoroughly underrated season that was a big improvement over Season 1.  The show started to finally deal with more serious issues, and of course Season 2 added one of the most important elements to Degrassi’s success…Craig Manning.

[Favorite Episodes]: Weird Science, Drive, When Doves Cry, Take My Breath Away, Mirror in the Bathroom, Tears Are Not Enough

-

4) Season 5
This was the season where everyone sort of started becoming hip, aka everyone dressed nicer and looked “prettier.”  As far as the episodes, it was kind of hit and miss…one episode would be really good, then the next one might just be average.

[Favorite Episodes]: Weddings Parties Anything, Foolin’, Turned Out, The Lexicon of Love, Our Lips Are Sealed

-

5) Season 1
I can’t even really explain why I like Season 1.  I guess it has an innocent, yet enjoyable feel to it.  And the only episode I can’t stand to watch is Mother and Chid Reunion.

[Favorite Episodes]: Friday Night, Coming of Age, Secrets and Lies, Rumors and Reputations, Under Pressure

-

6) Season 6
It’s not hard to find the best episodes of this season…they’re sandwiched between all of the bad ones.  The Pemma/Semma stuff at the beginning was too much to bear, and the Paige/Palex stuff at the end got old.  Thank goodness for a Craig Manning cameo, Parcy, and JT Yorke (R.I.P.).

[Favorite Episodes]: What It Feels Like To Be A Ghost, Eyes Without A Face, Rock This Town, The Bitterest Pill

-

7) Season 7
There’s only three reasons to watch Season 7: Spinner’s cancer, “TOBY ISAACS CALLS THE SHOTS,” and Darcy’s rape storyline (one of my favorite storylines ever).  The rest? Forgettable.

[Favorite Episodes]: Standing in the Dark, Death or Glory, Live to Tell, Another Brick in the Wall, Bust a Move Pt 2 (ONLY for Darcy’s subplot, the rest of the episode is crap)

-

8) Season 8
A “rebuilding season,” that lacked the charm of Season 1.  I initially ripped this season to shreds, but backed off that since it really wasn’t aiming to be a great season to begin with…it was just setting up/developing the newer characters for Season 9.

[Favorite Episodes]: Heart of Glass, Danger Zone, Degrassi Goes Hollywood

12 Days Of Degrassi: Bring Back The Originals!

Imagine this cast combined with the newer cast....that's a lot of dang people.

The other day I received this question, and I figured I could answer it with a blog post:

**********************
do you think or will they bring back the old characters of degrassi and have them working in the school or in the community earning a living. this would be a good way to combine the older viewers with the new viewers and the same for the actors which will hopefully give the show stronger ratings. what do you think about that?
**********************

Do *I* think they should bring back a bunch of the original characters for regular or recurring roles?

No, they should not.

Yeah, I used to be one of those people who was annoyed when they started bringing in all of the new characters…but then I got over it.  As nice as it would be to have the originals hanging around, it just wouldn’t work realistically:

1) There’d be TOO many characters.  Character overload much?  There’s only a limited amount of time in any given season, let alone any given episode.  Having that many characters causes all sort of development and story issues.  You either focus too little on the characters and the season feels scatterbrained (ex: Season 8), or you focus too much on certain characters and leave others behind….defeating the purpose of the originals coming back or it cancels out all the effort they’ve put into the new characters.

2) What do you do with them?  Working at Degrassi simply isn’t an option now.  What, are they all going to be teacher’s assistants?  And having them work somewhere in the city doesn’t seem like it’d be that interesting either (helloooo, Spinner)…who wants to watch them cut back and forth between teen storylines at Degrassi and adult ones in the “real world?” They managed barely watchable plots for the original characters that graduated and went off to University in Seasons 6, 7 and 8.

3) Do they even want to come back? Craig and Manny went off to become superstars.  Sean is in the Army.  Some just randomly disappeared, but in the reality of the show, would any of the characters that have left even want to come back?  And in the real world you can’t assume that the actors have time to come back to Degrassi.  A lot of them left to pursue other interests (University, music, other acting gigs), because they recognize the fact that Degrassi won’t last forever.  I highly doubt Aubrey “Drake” Graham is gonna give up his rap career to come back to Degrassi full (or part) time to play “Wheelchair Jimmy.”

************

Now don’t get me wrong, I LOVE when the original characters make cameos after being away for a while.  But to bring them back on even a semi-regular basis?  I just don’t see having them hang around to try and raise ratings as being the answer.  The answer is making sure the quality of the Degrassi product  they have now is constantly improving.

12 Days Of Degrassi: Favorite Couple

I <3 Sellie.

My favorite couple ever? Sellie.  When they were together, they were a wonderful example of stability.  Most importantly, they kept each other out of trouble.  I loved how they clicked in “Take On Me,” and when it was over, there was no get-back-together drama….unless you count that mini Don’t You Forget About Me.

So who was your favorite couple? There are so freakin’ many I completely lost count.

12 Days of Degrassi: Degrassi Musical

Anyone remember The-N’s Degrassi Musical promo? :-)
